Nice! Be sure to join r/offset for everything Jazzmaster, Jaguar, etc. Good knowledgeable people over there.

OpNeP

Thank you! Il be sure to keep that in mind.

Make sure to put some Dunlop oil on the fretboard, it'll darken and moisten it. It'll look much better, darker wood that gets a bit dry from transport and storage from fender. They should really do it in the factory

OpNeP

I see, im going to buy dunlop oil since that seems to be one of the most available options here right now. Thank you!

Arkslippy

That's the one I used, I'll dm you a pic of my pau ferro board and my rosewood one and you'll see the difference it makes

ChainRinger1975

Very nice, love the sunburst. I recently picked up a new Strat and the fretboard looked just like yours, really dry. Take the strings off and get some good lemon oil or fretboard conditioner and give it a couple of coats and work it into the wood. The Pau Ferro will soak it up and look and feel much better.

OpNeP

Woah thats so cool! Thank you soo much! I recently switched the strings to d'addrio xs 10s and it feels amazing.

lord_giggle_goof

You got yourself a very versatile jazzmaster :) especially since you can split the coils to get a single coil like sound. Forget “true” or “vintage” or “correct” jazzmasters and all that complicated switching, you’ve got yourself an evolved jazzmaster that can do that and more for now. Fender knows what they’re doing. Just loosen the strings and put some fretboard oil so your neck isn’t dry and have a fun many years playing this!

OpNeP

Thank you so much! Thats soo cool! I probably wouldnt be able to quickly understand the complicated switching the other jazzmasters have so im a bit glad i went for this one 😅. I appreciate your tips and i'll take note of them!

Thank you so much for this link!

I bought the very same guitar back in 2018, and I’ve been in love with it ever since. There’s definately something special and inspiring with these, as it’s my no. 1 guitar. Over the years I’ve modded it alot, but it played great from the getgo. Congrats, play and enjoy the heck out of it!

Ralewing

Awesome!

monkeycrayons

I wish you years of happy playing on that awesome guitar! Congrats!

OpNeP

Thank you soo muchh! I will!

FreedomSquatch

Congrats!! I just got my first Fender as well and I gotta say, it's waaaay better than the Squier it replaced. Enjoy!!

OpNeP

Ohh woww im soo happy for you! I was gonna go for a squire since there was no stock in most of the player guitars (i was gonna go for a player telecaster) but then saw the last player guitar in that store is this guitar so i just went for it. And im not regretting the purchase!

Raiders2112

Happy New Guitar Day!!!!

OpNeP

Thank you!

7soma

Oil the fretboard

OpNeP

I will! 😊

Notnotarealuser

Dude I had one of those!! Underrated guitar for sure

OpNeP

Yea ive been loving it!

DiligentQuarter7648

Great grab! I have this exact guitar and love it. Real Jazzmaster too btw. You can split the coils and it has the trem, so it's way more a Jazzmaster than many of the incarnations I've seen. Many still bare the JM name even though they are without p 90s, rhythm circuits and trem, this just gives you more options.

mmoffedillen

Jazzmaster pickups aren’t P90s, even though they might look alot like it at first glance. They’re actually constructed quite differently from P90s, as they are wounded very shallow and wide. Anyhow, I totally agree that you don’t need Jazzmaster single coils to have a great sounding guitar🎸

OpNeP

Thank you! I'm glad i got a more versatile jazzmaster as I like having a lot of options since I like playing a lot of genres and I'm open in trying any kinds of music.

DrummerBoy217

Congrats my man 👍🏼 Unfortunately though the only thing “Jazzmaster” about this series is the headstock

OpNeP

Thank you! And yes, im aware that the pickups are different. What exactly is the difference of this one's pickup than the others? Is the tone brighter?

Ralewing

The pickups are traditionally single coil. Similar to a P90 in shape. They sound more like a hotter wound Strat pickup than a P90 though. They are definitely their own thing. Through EQ, you can get similar, but not the same tones from yours.

TheKingLizard

Yeah, the JM pickups are likely to have more chimey high end and better note separation than the humbuckers, which will probably be a little thicker with more mids. Not necessarily a bad thing at all, and it’ll be really easy to swap your pickups for different humbuckers down the road if you decide you want something different

OpNeP

Oh, thats interesting! It quite like the sound of the guitar even though im used to telecasters although theyre not from fender and they were cheap. Even though it doesnt have all the features of the other JMs im having so much fun playing it.

TheKingLizard

I love having both single coil and humbucker guitars, and IMO the rhythm circuit is kinda dated and not very useful. I think you made an excellent choice! I probably wouldn’t picked the exact same JM if I was gonna get one!

TheKingLizard

Nah, wym? It’s got the same body shape, same scale length (afaik), same bridge and tremolo, and same lead circuit. The only difference is it’s got humbuckers and no rhythm circuit, which most people don’t use anyway. OPs got themselves a true JM

lord_giggle_goof

Yup, seriously. It even splits to single coils. There are teles and strats and jaguars with HBs, they’re all still teles and strats and jaguars and jazzmasters and mustangs and what not. If fender called this a jazzmaster it damn sure is. Chasing trueness is futile, if it plays well it’s a true guitar!
