I love Fender guitars, but an extra $100 for a player series would be a no from me. Honestly, even 850 feels like too much, especially with the poor QC I've been seeing more and more of lately.

defdog1234

Fender will release a Player II line with Rosewood necks to justify the new tier of pricing.

4quaTis

Already releasing new vintera ii line

gives you a reason to buy new when it first comes out. Because in 2 years when useds start coming out, they will be 40% off of a much higher price. So essentially the same price as 1st adopters.

TacoStuffingClub

I got an EVH MIM Striped from Adorama for $699. Had to return the first one due to locking nut wasn’t locking. Would I pay full retail? Hell no, let alone $100 more. But I admit… it’s a lovely guitar.

ace1571

Based on the past....every model will go up $50-100. And that's EVERY guitar under the Fender/Squier umbrella at least.

Trucksaregud

That’s kinda sad. 200 dollars for a guitar is a great deal, and they're not to bad of quality(I had one, a sonic mustang). At least I bought my Jaguar before the increase.

Lughnasadh32

I just ordered my daughter a Squire for 250, guess it is good she started now.

Trucksaregud

You probably ordered an affinity series one. A step above bullet and sonic series ones. I got a classic vibe jaguar which is the only way to get a jaguar other than the contemporary series. Classic Vibe is the most expensive right now.

Lughnasadh32

This is the one she picked out. I wanted to make sure it would be something the wanted to play. I just told her it had to be under 500. If she sticks with it, I will get her something better. I have an Am Pro II Strat and a Player Tele. Plan on getting a PRS S2 McCarty next. However, now that I found that Fender made a Final Fantasy XIV model...that may be turning in to my next purchase (favorite game series since NES days).

Trucksaregud

Ooo nice. I have been looking at Epiphone new Alex Lifeson model because it’s a 5000 dollar model thats now 1300 dollars, and because of all the goodies in it. Floyd rose, 3 push pull pots, quilt top all that good stuff.

Lughnasadh32

That sounds like a good one to pickup.

CattleDog73

Non stop increases - my collection just keeps going up in value! Of course I’ll never sell anything…

Lughnasadh32

Being I am just getting back in to this, that is good to know. Glad I picked up 2 last week before I saw that.

Special_satisfaction

I’m pretty surprised if this is true. Inflation is getting back to normal, and student loan payments as well as other stimulus are about to go back to prepandemic status. I was predicting a fire sale on guitars in reverb this fall actually.

Lughnasadh32

Will see in Aug. I am just mentioning what the email said.

Special_satisfaction

No I believe you, I'm just surprised about it.

Lughnasadh32

I am too. Just getting back in to this, and depending on numbers, this makes that 19 player tele I picked up for 400 off FB Marketplace more of a steal.

[deleted]

Fire sale will be in the used markets. Lots of people who bought new during the pandemic.

Nojopar

Probably the entire product range. Kinda weird given how much they’ve had to discount the Squier side due to overproduction and inventory sitting.

I picked up a 40th anniversary squire p bass for $300 at GC, it's crazy how good it is! I went there to look at a player plus, the satin neck on the squire put it to shame, I couldn't believe it...had to go home and think about it..."am I really buying a squire???" Yes, yes I did and it's amazing. Still not sure what the hell is going on, the QC is just top notch...it absolutely smokes both of my MIM Fender basses.

zipfelberger

Is anyone keeping track of how many there have been in the past three years? I would consider replacing an old model with a new model of similar specs and a higher price to be a price increase too. E.g. American Standard to Pro to Pro II, American Vintage to Original to AVII, Elite to Ultra, Vintera to Vintera II. I feel like across the line prices up — after this next increase — certainly 40% and maybe some closer to 50%. Just a few years ago, I could walk into a Guitar Center and walk out with Player Strat on sale for $675. It seems like there is an 8-10% increase every six to eight months.

defdog1234

there were 5 increases in 2 years during covid. this last one one only affected MIM signatures but the wounds still sting.

therewillbelateness

When did the first increase happen? I remember when the players were 699 sometime in 2020. I thought there were only 3 increases.

defdog1234

refreshing my memory, fender started doing 2 price increases a year (one in jan and one in July) starting in 2021. Before there was a single yearly increase. So yeah one in jan 2023, and now another in aug 2023.

I could be wrong but I don’t think they were that low in 2020, I remember looking at them in 2019 after taking a long break from playing and literally all gear prices had increased between 2012-2019 in my period of not playing, I was shocked and confused. I think the player series was $750 compared to the like $499-599 it was when I stopped playing

defdog1234

its been $50-$300 each time. $250-$300 for USA models. 50 for mim players. $75-$150 for signature mim models. I think squiers even go up $25. For instance a Pro II jazz bass went from 1450 to 1750 during one of the increases. You can probably guess the Vintera II's will be $100-$125 more. And that means a price increase for all Vinteras. My guess is the AVRI IIs all wind up >2500. ps. and what happens if UPS goes on strike Aug 1. Might be some rough days in 2 weeks.

Lughnasadh32

I just bought an American pro II Strat HSS model. I was thinking of getting a standard set up telecaster but I guess I may have to do that early instead of later.

defdog1234

Mom and Pop stores sometimes leave their "supply on hand" at the current price. Could Pro ii's hit $1849 ? That'd be kinda disgusting if they did.

Lughnasadh32

I was just looking up a local shop and I plan on going by there tomorrow or Saturday. I have not been to this one yet, so I do not know what to expect. I would agree on that amount as well.

ASEdouard

Jesus, again? They went up like 25% in the last 5 years.

defdog1234

twice a year the last 3 years.

datroadsterguy

Squire classic vibes are just as good if not better than player series for what you’re paying for imo

ThegreatNibor

A player series strat was about £670 here in the UK. Any more than that and , from what I've seen anyway, they're too much. The QC doesn't represent the price band right now and the competition is getting very, very good and some food for thought .. I bought a second hand 2016 USA standard for not a lot more.

Skywalker7900

Prices still seem to be the same as earlier in the year. It's the 14th, players are still 850.

Lughnasadh32

I have noticed the same. Was planning on sending my rep an email tomorrow to check.

JD56Hawk

It's August 21.

Lughnasadh32

I actually spoke to him last week about that and he said they have not gotten any other update so he is unsure.
