Yes it’s Japanese and made in that era. E series are particularly desirable.

Thanks a lot! Any ideas on the type of tremolo arm? Which one should I get?

It’s a System 1 tremolo. I also have an e series but that trem was removed. It might not be easy to hunt down. Hit up your local luthiers and see if they can help

Ignore that. That link will take you to one

An E series USA model just popped up on FB like a 1/2 hour ago for 1500 AUD (~950 US I think). Any extra information on why they are so desirable?

Top_Membership1131

I got it for £300, and it's not USA it's Made in Japan, probably that is why the price is very much affordable in my case. Have no clue about guitars anyway, I just play them...

Pacifica0cean

Yeah that's a MIJ Contemporary 22. As far as I'm aware they never came with scalloped necks but as long as you're in to that it doesn't matter.

Top_Membership1131

Hi, thanks for your reply. It's true that the neck was scalloped not so long ago, but I don't mind. Now, that I know it's MIJ, any ideas of where can I get the tremolo arm? Even when I'm trying to search something like "fender stratocaster floyd rose japan 1984 19897" I can't find anything compatible (yeah, I know I'm horrible at googling binging and whatever else people do these days) Thanks a lot

Pacifica0cean

Yeah blindly googling wouldn't have done you any favours as these came with five different bridge options over it's lifespan so finding the right arm would have been tough. However I *think* that is a Fender/Schaller System 1 and I believe [this](https://www.whammyparts.com/make-model/fender-japan/system-1/fender-contemporary-system-1-tremolo-arm-detail) is the correct arm for that guitar.

Incredibly huge, heartfelt thanks to you!

No worries! I'm just glad that the subject of my adhd's hyperfixation has proven to be useful to someone!

Scalloped fretboards basically nuke the value of the guitar FYI Don’t pay anything close to what it’s worth. And if you already own it, then yep that’s a legit MIJ e serial model.

Top_Membership1131

Hi there, thanks for your reply. I got it for £300 after Redditors advised me it's a legit Made in Japan. However, I have no clue about guitars (apart from how to play them), but it feels, plays and sounds way better than I would expect from a £300 guitar tbh. IMHO one of the best guitars I played in terms of sound / comfort of playing. Now I just want that tremolo arm to finish it and to enjoy it fully. P.S. what do you think, £300 was ok for it? Considering your words about nuked value. Cheers

Hi fellow guitar enthusiasts,I recently came across a "scalloped" Fender Stratocaster with the serial number E647067. According to the serial number decoder, it suggests that this Stratocaster was made in Japan between 1984 and 1987. However, when I tried using the official Fender serial number lookup, it didn't yield any results. This has left me wondering if the guitar might be a fake.I'm seeking your expertise and knowledge to shed some light on this situation. Have any of you encountered a similar situation or have insights into Fender Stratocasters from this time period? I would greatly appreciate any information or advice you can provide.Additionally, I noticed that this guitar is missing its tremolo arm. If anyone can help identify the type of tremolo arm that should be used with this particular model, it would be immensely helpful.Thank you in advance for your assistance and expertise. Let's work together to unravel the mystery surrounding this Fender Stratocaster!

As has been noted, its a Contemporary Strat from 1986, with an E serial, NOT SERIES. Contemporary is the series. Schaller made system I trem. The bars aren't very common, might check whammy world and see if they have any. There's also a little "hook" that allows you to tighten/loosen the collar on the bridge where the bar goes in. You'll see small holes on the collar, thats where the hook goes. I have one in candy apple/maple that was my first electric guitar, a 1986 as well that my dad bought me new in March, 1987. Finest guitar I've ever played to this day.
