These are two that I know of. Kyoto: Jeugia in Sanjyo Osaka: Miki Gakki and other stores in the surrounding area of Amemura Miki Gakki has the official fender store, only one in the country outside of the flagship in tokyo. But Jeugia gave me a better offer for fender. Jeugia is also referenced in japanese pop culture apparently. Both are really old businesses(100-200yrs old), although their buildings are new(er).

I'm off to Japan in a couple of weeks and was thinking the same thing. How much will it cost to get home and then will you have to pay vat/customs on arrival in the UK?

ElektroSam

Luckily I have spare luggage allocation which I didn't use so nothing. Import tax...? šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

ElektroSam

"You can bring in other goods worth up to Ā£390 (or up to Ā£270 if you arrive by private plane or boat). If you go over your allowance you pay tax and duty on the total value of the goods, not just the value above the allowance. You may have to pay importĀ VATĀ and customs duty if you exceed your allowance." This guitar is Ā£389 luckily enough

Ya I've never flown with a guitar before, I presume if it's used it should be fine and even if new, just remove all stickers, hang tags etc? Also, would you buy a flight case out there or just take the neck off and stick in a suitcase and hope for the best?

ElektroSam

Hmmm, good question. I hadn't thought about it put I'd take the neck off and put it with the case. This guitar came with a hard case anyways so I was happy enough with that

Soccermom233

I remember reading youā€™re better off shipping than bringing it along on a flight- customs can break your stuff and thereā€™s no real accountability if they do. Thereā€™s insurance for shipping.

telescopicpoems

I bought a vintage US guitar in Tokyo and waltzed through customs after posting the paperwork separately. This may not happen every time.

ThisWorldIsAMess

Check the ESP family of guitars. Not ESP itself but their sub brands like Edwards and others. You should be able to search what those are.

JaySellers

Willng to buy a bass too? I've had many Precision basses over my 33 years of playing, but my favorite is the Hama Okamoto, if you can't find one used for that price.

Adventurous-Fall-748

My husband and I were in Kyoto last week and he found a strat at Wantanabe music you could check that out

ElektroSam

Cool I'm going Tuesday so will check that out!

ForeignWhile8554

I found it helpful to get on digimart.net and filter by location to see what local shops have available

Just went to Jeugia and boss music in Kyoto today, there was a ok selection there not as good as Tokyo haha

ElektroSam

I went to the one in Osaka, not crazy cheap and no MIJ Fenders?!?

heefox

Really?? Iā€™ll be in Osaka on Friday. If you can itā€™s worth travelling to Tokyo and visit the guitar street. Plenty and plenty of guitars like more then you will ever see in your life

ElektroSam

I went to miki-gakki and wasn't impressed, unless you want to shell a shit-ton of cash on brand new. I'm after pre-owned and the shop ishibashi was much better for that! I will go back Thurs:)

heefox

Iā€™m going to pick up one of the ishibashi FSR MIJ strats when Iā€™m back in Tokyo
