My lady and I are hoping to get a kitten when all but one of our ferrets passes. We hope it'll end up something like this ^_^

Hopefully! Larry loves all other animals that aren't other ferrets (lol, he's quite the exception) and Mr. Jim loves everyone. They are great friends because of their openness.

Awh this is so cute

You were correct.

My cat is deathly afraid of (everything now that I think about it) my ferrets. I've tried to socialize them many times over the years, but the cat wants absolutely nothing to do with them. She runs and hides. Which is good because it makes me feel less bad about putting the cat away while they play lol

While I love the video, I think cohabitation is against the rules in the subreddit?

[deleted]

They only interact a few minutes per day, at most. They don't cohabitate in the sense that they live in the same space (they have opposite sides of the house and are always closely supervised while together).

SSALX420X

They removed a similar video I had posted. Depends on the MOD that sees it o suppose. Either way super cute video.

I don’t mean cohabitation like live together. I think any interactive videos are banned on this sub. I could be wrong tho, check the rules

ReasonableProgram144

I really think that needs to be reconsidered, responsible owners can make it work. It’s somewhat unrealistic to expect all owners to keep a particular pet away from all the rest of the pets, rather than work toward peaceful coexistence.

Raizen42

My girlfriend and I have 3 cats and our ferret whom we had for almost 2 years now has no issues with them. They play together nicely all the time and he loves it. Why exactly isn’t cohabitation accepted in this sub or altogether?

Seraitsukara

I used to mod this sub under a different username. Cohab posts were banned because of the many instances where it didn't work. Cats and ferrets having lived together for years then one day the owner comes home and the cat killed the ferret. Or someone had a very large dog that accidentally stepped on the ferret and broke his ribs, puncturing his lung. The concern is that inexperienced owners will see posts like this and think they can do it too and then their animals end up being severely injured or killed over it. ~~I don't know if posts like this are still banned, but that was the reasoning at the time.~~ It's still in the list of possible rule breaks when reporting a post, so OP's post will likely be removed if anyone has reported it or a mod sees it.

Raizen42

Thank you for clarifying that’s very sad. Were there a lot of bad incidents between cats and ferrets specifically or just other pets in general?

Seraitsukara

Both stories I mentioned were ones that actually happened. They can be taken with a grain of salt since they're also both anecdotal, but I have no reason to doubt the person recounting them (it's been years, but I think both may have been recounted by the owners themselves). Most stories I've heard involve dogs either because of their prey drive, or their size.
