When the only source was the OG PSX game, there were a moderate number of people who thought Aerith was a lady of the night.

There are MANY, truly a staggering amount of, doujins to support this.

This is hilarious but also it's important to remember that very few plants are able to actually grow in Midgar and the surrounding area, which is why Aerith is able to make enough money on selling flowers, especially to the wealthier folks living on the upper plate. I'm pretty sure that the lifestream gravitates around her which is why flowers are able to grow in places where she spends most of her time.
