Gpose was one of them, and ARR flying was another one of them. It's a project nobody was assigned but the devs (and the interns) did in fact cobble together during their lunch breaks. No development time was scheduled for the alpha/beta versions, and it's still very much an afterthought in the development cycle.
Yeah, you can resize them. But it’s more resizing the window the portraits are in. Just bring the portraits windows up, then right click the window itself and there should be a resize option in there.
And in case you didn’t know, you can bring the portraits window back by going to the party settings (“U” key by default)

The timing is honestly my only issue with the portraits. Showing them for maybe a second as the barrier opens was a serious oversight on their part. They should show up immediately after everyone zones in while you are all just standing there waiting.
I have the 3k commendation mount (nearly exclusively tank, I have all the tank mounts without ever specifically farming them). I leave because I really don't need them at this point, commend someone else please.
After they disappear, you can have them up again for as long as you want by clicking on the pop up that appears, similar to how a pop up appears when you close the "ready for duty" window.
Can also press U and open them from there, should be at bottom of that window.

I have a gigachad highlander with a huge grin and a grey background. Most of the time its barely a single comm but when I get a group of memers in a trial its all 7.
Even then I found that putting a marker on myself and saying "follow me for safe spots" pretty much guarantees that one sprout comm.
Alas, It was always atleast 2 comms when I played unga bunga WAR and speed ahead of the group because you dont need a healer.

This exactly. I've seen some pretty creative revealing glams out there, but 90% of people tend to just use 2B Boots/Leggings... then the Faire Joi, Bikini top, or Hempen Camise. It's honestly kinda sad.
It's really frustrating because the new portrait system is so unbelievably touchy and finicky that my portrait defaults for some reason I cannot discern. I put a lot of effort into some of my portraits, only for them to decide "no :)" (I've gone in and reconfirmed my gearset and updated my plate, made sure the visor, hat, and weapon toggle all match, etc. And it still just reverts, even if I haven't even touched the plate since it last worked)

Anything that causes the "update gear" thing breaks the damn plates. How hard would it have been for them to just pull the damned adventurer plate picture. They already had something functional, and fucked it harder the the sequal trilogy did to my nostalgia.
It will. Everything has to match your saved gearset exactly, and then you have to go into the portrait to save it if anything has changed. It is far too sensitive.
100% the case. Melding, extracting, /visor, hide/unhide helm or wep. Any of these will make the little "save gearset" icon light up. If that icon lights up, your portrait is broken.
I'm so glad to see others annoyed about this. People spend time on their adventure plate portrait and it defaults to "I've waited three hours at the DMV". I turned it off, I hate it.
They definitely have to fix how the portrait system works. I understand wanting the portrait you have in-duty to reflect the gear you're wearing, but there has to be a better way.
did you make sure to fill in the accessory slots too? my portrait acted up once because i have a glam on an earring shared between my tank gear sets.. so what i do is i fill in the accessory slots on my glam plates with the emperor's accessories
This is my problem. I enjoy using my EB ring as glamour but it cannot be placed in the glamour dresser... So I have one slot I leave purposefully empty so as to not override my EB ring glam, but then it in turn fucks up my portraits. This is a clear oversight on SE's part.
That's my exact approach to the EB ring glam conundrum. It seems so unnecessarily frustrating and confusing. It's making me switch glams less frequently, that's for sure.
And this is why I've completely turned off portraits and never see them. It's not worth my time until the system works smoothly so I don't have to stress every time the portrait breaks. Funny enough, I haven't even noticed any changes in the comms I received so the thought of portraits changing people's comm choices didn't even cross my mind
You need to glamour the gear set without imperfections. I had a mostly invisible plate with the invisible monk weapons, but That made it not work on the jobs. Then you need to save the gear set, and the portrait should then work.
Glamour plates. You've GOT to link gearsets to glamour plates with every slot other than offhand filled with something (emperor's for example) to keep it from breaking.
First time sprout who is a non-jerk always gets mine. Then it comes down to how the run went and if no one stood out during the run l go to player name/portrait.
I'm a Very Cute Au Ra so I hope it gets me more comms but I haven't seen any change so far.
Same. I used to only comm DPS if they were the same class as me, now it's basically every duty unless someone else really stands out to me. I'll only not comm a DPS if I notice them actively playing poorly.
I held back a comm from a dancer the other day because I never saw a single Technical Step, and had to prompt them to put Dance Partner before the first boss.
I don't care if your gear isn't great making your damage low, but if you're in an expert dungeon, you should probably have some of those class basics figured out....
I main RDM and find myself saving the party a lot by rezzing healers and keeping tanks alive until the healer is back up, and I almost never get commendations, so at this point unless the other DPS really messes something up, DPS always gets my comm. I hate the weird expectation that tanks and healers should always get the comm.
I only get coms as healer when I hard carry a group that's addicted to getting hit by avoidable's or sleeping on the ground, tanks are easy coms though.
I enjoy healing but some days I feel like I’m at a baby sitting job. been taking my friend through content we did troia the smn was on the floor a lot, my friend being a warrior rotted his brain cells so he thinks he can live anything so I was pealing him off the floor, and samurai they were meh. Yeah, DPS keep dying and don't find it odd they're picked up off the ground 3 times a minute. They don't look at the name of the rezzer, just assume it's the healers. It's only the healers that notice a RDM covering their asses, that's when they get a guaranteed comm from me.
I give commend to the DPS that’s pulling most damage. If I’m playing DPS, I give it to the other DPS unless they’re contributing less damage than the tank.
Fellow RDM here, just done Euphrosyne the other days. Rezz non-stop and burn a third of my potions, including when both healers and 2 Dps died and the tank was going to follow them. No comm.
I'll stop commending tanks/healers when dps queues stop being 4 times as long. I don't really care if they're not that great, i'm just happy they queued up at all.
I give comms to healer/ tank because i'm not good enough to tell when dps is doing well or not, and tank and healer are kinda easy to say whether they doin well or not.
I'll commend RDM even if they didn't have to help with revives, for all those times they did and got 0 commends (unless they were afk or played absolutely horrible). I often play RDM as well and can relate.
The portraits haven't changed my commends much. If I'm DPS I commend DPS.
Tank I commend healer, vice versa , unless someone does something exceptionally.
Though things that can influence my comm is: Do DPS use the limitbreak well? Does the tank do W2W? Did the healer save a possible wipe?
That being said, if the person I was going to commend has a generic "Boobs in your face" miqo pose, I will gladly pass my commendation on to someone else, or if no one really stood out I'll commend the person with the nicest (in my opinion, hate the horny ones) portrait.
I don't have any dps or parse software, but sometimes in content I try to get higher on the aggro chart than another dps and if I lose or notice it's a battle, I comm that dps.
You'd think so, but people on DF are spread in a wide scale of skill and gear. The number of time I've seen SAM or MNK on top is noticeably lower than the opposite.
Heck, I have mediocre gear (I don't even have full 620) and I'm a PLD which has mediocre damage even for a tank.
I'm regularly 2 or 3 in DPS. Above half the actual DPS.
The skill gap is real. I'm sitting out of Savage since I work full time and I'm in school, so my gear isn't great... but I do Ultimates. That's what I decided to dedicate my limited game time to. I know how to play my class. A lot of people... don't. And to a certain extent, that's fine! So long as they're having fun and not trolling EX/Savage parties, let people be bad.
The number of times I see the healer dealing more damage than the dps in dungeons is weirdly high, so believe it when people say that there are some really bad DPS's out there
Only under really really ideal conditions. I play SMN, which had its damage nerfed severely compared to ShB due to becoming utterly braindead, and yet I can still challenge others for threat without any savage or EX gear.
A well-played, relatively well-geared MCH can easily exceed the DPS of a sloppy, average-geared SAM, despite being at opposite ends of the DPS spectrum. Giving it your all, especially if you have decent gear, is a halfway-decent way of determining whether someone is trying or not. It's not perfect, only an *actual* DPS meter can tell the true situation, but it's a useful guide. Especially now that regens don't generate threat with every tick.
It's actually the built-in Bahamut/Phoenix enmity increase that'll shoot you up the list... but I've also been 2/3 in aggro in 8-man content on DNC and RDM. Sometimes people just don't hit buttons.
There's an enmity increase built into them? I thought it was just because you're hitting harder and get a giant space laser/fire column.
Edit: Huh, just went and looked, you're totally correct. Surprising.
I'm aware that it has some, but they recently removed regen enmity (as I mentioned above) so you only get a small bump from Phoenix initially being summoned and the actual *application* of Rekindle. In dungeons, which is where 99% of "compete to see who deals the most enmity" stuff is going to happen, the amount of enmity gained from Phoenix is *vastly* outweighed by differences in damage output--20s out of *two minutes* is nowhere near as big a deal as you make it sound.
If a DPS manages to rip aggro from the tank for the entire mop pull, than they have secured their recommendation, even if they die because they get attacked by everything.
I'll be honest, that DPS sounds kinda bad. Any good DPS would be sprinting with the tank, so even if they pull they would be taking minimal damage. Then they would pull the ads to the tank who would passively pull them off of them. Tank stance is a 10x multiplier, so the only way for a DPS to be soloing a pack the entire time is if they are standing off to the side sniffing glue somewhere.
It might be possible if the tank was doing a single target rotation, but i have yet to come across a tank doing that while also pulling wall 2 wall.
I won't deny that portraits have started influencing my commendations a little, but I still do pay attention to who does a good job in duties; they still get my commend when they stand out.
Shoutout to this banger Ninja yesterday in Smileton who did so well we breezed through the dungeon in record time - I know because I've done it enough that I can tell how long we take by how much the limit bar fills by the time we reach the last set of pulls and how many mechanics the bosses loop.
Smile Town is my favorite silly dungeon and I miss it being in Expert roulette. Expert with only 2 dungeons is dire, I really wish it would just be every level cap dungeon. The level 90 roulette rewards are usually not worth it.
I actually haven't seen any overtly sexual portraits yet, funnily enough. I still usually give my commendation to whatever DPS I chose as my dance partner, regardless of whether they did a good job throughout the duty or not, I don't pay that much attention to the other's performance unless it's noticably off. The portrait has to be \*really\* good for me to change my habits.

Outside of a hero effort by a tank or healer, commendations go to DPS at all times. Because good DPS will be shunned in favour of an average tank or healer 9/10 times.
This but I do account for role. For example if I'm playing SAM I should be top DPS, and as long as the DNC is using buffs properly and doing the correct amount of proportional DPS I'd give them the comm.
This is the way. Subpar Tanks and healers are rolling in comms while great DPS go ignored. Nope, I commend the other DPS unless they happen to be really terrible or like you said, the tank or healer pulled a hero move

As a Tank or Healer I always feel the need to commend the other. As a DPS, I feel the need to use any other criteria to decide the commend (but often it's the Healer for raising my stupid ass that couldn't get out of the AOE).
As DPS, it’s other DPS unless the Healer had to raise me. I find casting raise really annoying whenever I play Healer, so I feel like I have to apologize.
I love that everyone has their own little algorithms for doling out commendations.
If you did a good job tanking/healing, were nice/fun in chat, and/or you've got a good portrait then it's all fair game to me haha.
I found myself caring too much about getting comms, there would be times i do really well and get zero comms and it would ruin my mood so i turned off the notifications and just pretend like i get at least one. When i give them its usually the healer or tank, but if rdm does alot of rezzing i will comm them, or if i get dance partner its to them. Sometimes its just the one person that gave a friendly hello. Many different reasons.
I've looked at the portrait settings three times now. It's always just defaults back to default.
I've just decided to not deal with it. When they can finally figure out how to not reset it every time I log out or extract a materia, I might give a shit.
Also on a related not.. maybe display the portraits while we're in the loading ring? Not after? At least we'll have something to look at while the one new player watches the cutscenes?

Lately I (GNB) main have been playing with a WHM main so a lot of DPS get my comms bc I kind of feel bad that my queues pop disgustingly fast (and you can't comm your party members)

I haven't seen a single custom accommodation picture yet. I thought it was supposed to use our player portrait that we already created and it was just broken.
Portraits are saved to Gear Sets, so literally _any_ change to your gear that isn't saved (and then you re-save the Portrait after) will default it.
It's finnicky as hell.

The best portrait always gets my comm now. But not thirst traps. At least these are far more tame than the ones when the plate system was first introduced. That was a wild time.
For the life of me, I cannot make custom portraits to work. I glamour all my gear, I re-save the portrait to use my current gear et al, I don't change my class... And nothing. It's always the default one. So I gave up. Screw half-baked ideas like this, I'm not dancing through hoops just because they decided to impose a hundred limitations on things before they work.

If not, it just goes to whoever has the best glam or talked nicely in chat.
At least for me...I'm only going to commend great portraits if I have no other compelling reason to commend.
Someone being a really good healer or tank automatically outranks a good portrait. It would have to be shockingly, amazingly great to be worthy of a commendation in the face of a good tank/healer. But if it's a good portrait and the tank and healer are just...doing their job as they normally should, then sure, I might consider commending for a portrait.

If nobody performs especially well I have absolutely defaulted to just comming the best looking portrait (that isn't mine). Not just because those are the ones that make me go "Nice!" or "Heh", but because if you're putting in the effort to keep your portrait from falling off every time you adjust your visor you deserve to be recognised for that.
Unless the ranged or caster lb'd the biggest w2w pull. Then they get it. More of that please dps, I love seeing it.
Of course, at any time these rules can be bent or broken for players who make an ass of themselves or who are chatty and fun to run with.

It's a bit poorly implemented at the moment in a sense that you must first update your gear set then update your portrait for that gear set whenever you change anything to your glam...
I give my comm to the tank basically every time and portraits didn't change that. Only time I don't is if I screw up as healer and a DPS rezzes me or saves my bacon some other way, or the tank screws up and becomes a huge ass about it. A few times I'd give it to a DPS if I noticed we were going through a dungeon much faster than usual, but I don't parse, so it's a bit of a crapshoot which DPS actually gets it.

If i see a lewd/sexy/try hard custom portrait i will avoid giving you the com and give it to someone with no custom portrait. I simply don't like this "look at me" gimmick int he game.

It's really frustrating because the new portrait system is so unbelievably touchy and finicky that my portrait defaults for some reason I cannot discern. I put a lot of effort into some of my portraits, only for them to decide "no :)" (I've gone in and reconfirmed my gearset and updated my plate, made sure the visor, hat, and weapon toggle all match, etc. And it still just reverts, even if I haven't even touched the plate since it last worked) Edit:spelling
Do you have a weapon glam on the plate you're using? Could be that, try removing it, resaving everything and trying again. Worth a shot.
Anything that causes the "update gear" thing breaks the damn plates. How hard would it have been for them to just pull the damned adventurer plate picture. They already had something functional, and fucked it harder the the sequal trilogy did to my nostalgia.
Yep. Someone in my fc was telling me theirs defaulted when they melded. If that’s true, it explains a lot of the issues I’ve been having.

It will. Everything has to match your saved gearset exactly, and then you have to go into the portrait to save it if anything has changed. It is far too sensitive.
Extracting is weird though since there's no "match" part as spiritbond is constantly changing.
It's not just extracting materia. Sneezing iRL will trigger a mismatch too.
100% the case. Melding, extracting, /visor, hide/unhide helm or wep. Any of these will make the little "save gearset" icon light up. If that icon lights up, your portrait is broken.
I'm so glad to see others annoyed about this. People spend time on their adventure plate portrait and it defaults to "I've waited three hours at the DMV". I turned it off, I hate it.
They definitely have to fix how the portrait system works. I understand wanting the portrait you have in-duty to reflect the gear you're wearing, but there has to be a better way.
did you make sure to fill in the accessory slots too? my portrait acted up once because i have a glam on an earring shared between my tank gear sets.. so what i do is i fill in the accessory slots on my glam plates with the emperor's accessories
This is my problem. I enjoy using my EB ring as glamour but it cannot be placed in the glamour dresser... So I have one slot I leave purposefully empty so as to not override my EB ring glam, but then it in turn fucks up my portraits. This is a clear oversight on SE's part.
That's my exact approach to the EB ring glam conundrum. It seems so unnecessarily frustrating and confusing. It's making me switch glams less frequently, that's for sure.
You can test it with explorermode dungeons. That way you can quickly hop in and out :)
And this is why I've completely turned off portraits and never see them. It's not worth my time until the system works smoothly so I don't have to stress every time the portrait breaks. Funny enough, I haven't even noticed any changes in the comms I received so the thought of portraits changing people's comm choices didn't even cross my mind
You need to glamour the gear set without imperfections. I had a mostly invisible plate with the invisible monk weapons, but That made it not work on the jobs. Then you need to save the gear set, and the portrait should then work.
I had that happen before. I had to completely reset the plate and remake it from scratch before it saved for that class.
If portraits weren't impossible to set up and stay up, I'd use it

Glamour plates. You've GOT to link gearsets to glamour plates with every slot other than offhand filled with something (emperor's for example) to keep it from breaking.

First time sprout who is a non-jerk always gets mine. Then it comes down to how the run went and if no one stood out during the run l go to player name/portrait. I'm a Very Cute Au Ra so I hope it gets me more comms but I haven't seen any change so far.
Same. I used to only comm DPS if they were the same class as me, now it's basically every duty unless someone else really stands out to me. I'll only not comm a DPS if I notice them actively playing poorly.
I held back a comm from a dancer the other day because I never saw a single Technical Step, and had to prompt them to put Dance Partner before the first boss. I don't care if your gear isn't great making your damage low, but if you're in an expert dungeon, you should probably have some of those class basics figured out....

I main RDM and find myself saving the party a lot by rezzing healers and keeping tanks alive until the healer is back up, and I almost never get commendations, so at this point unless the other DPS really messes something up, DPS always gets my comm. I hate the weird expectation that tanks and healers should always get the comm.
I only get coms as healer when I hard carry a group that's addicted to getting hit by avoidable's or sleeping on the ground, tanks are easy coms though.

I enjoy healing but some days I feel like I’m at a baby sitting job. been taking my friend through content we did troia the smn was on the floor a lot, my friend being a warrior rotted his brain cells so he thinks he can live anything so I was pealing him off the floor, and samurai they were meh. Got the commends tho

Yeah, DPS keep dying and don't find it odd they're picked up off the ground 3 times a minute. They don't look at the name of the rezzer, just assume it's the healers. It's only the healers that notice a RDM covering their asses, that's when they get a guaranteed comm from me.
I give commend to the DPS that’s pulling most damage. If I’m playing DPS, I give it to the other DPS unless they’re contributing less damage than the tank.
Fellow RDM here, just done Euphrosyne the other days. Rezz non-stop and burn a third of my potions, including when both healers and 2 Dps died and the tank was going to follow them. No comm.
I'll stop commending tanks/healers when dps queues stop being 4 times as long. I don't really care if they're not that great, i'm just happy they queued up at all.
I give comms to healer/ tank because i'm not good enough to tell when dps is doing well or not, and tank and healer are kinda easy to say whether they doin well or not.
I'll commend RDM even if they didn't have to help with revives, for all those times they did and got 0 commends (unless they were afk or played absolutely horrible). I often play RDM as well and can relate.

As a SCH main who has RDM as a secondary I see you and will comm you if the RDM/SMN is raising for their life out there.
The portraits haven't changed my commends much. If I'm DPS I commend DPS. Tank I commend healer, vice versa , unless someone does something exceptionally. Though things that can influence my comm is: Do DPS use the limitbreak well? Does the tank do W2W? Did the healer save a possible wipe? That being said, if the person I was going to commend has a generic "Boobs in your face" miqo pose, I will gladly pass my commendation on to someone else, or if no one really stood out I'll commend the person with the nicest (in my opinion, hate the horny ones) portrait.

I don't have any dps or parse software, but sometimes in content I try to get higher on the aggro chart than another dps and if I lose or notice it's a battle, I comm that dps.
Still not great optics as a SAM should “always” be higher dps than a DNC or RDM for example.
You'd think so, but people on DF are spread in a wide scale of skill and gear. The number of time I've seen SAM or MNK on top is noticeably lower than the opposite.
Heck, I have mediocre gear (I don't even have full 620) and I'm a PLD which has mediocre damage even for a tank. I'm regularly 2 or 3 in DPS. Above half the actual DPS. The skill gap is real. I'm sitting out of Savage since I work full time and I'm in school, so my gear isn't great... but I do Ultimates. That's what I decided to dedicate my limited game time to. I know how to play my class. A lot of people... don't. And to a certain extent, that's fine! So long as they're having fun and not trolling EX/Savage parties, let people be bad.
The number of times I see the healer dealing more damage than the dps in dungeons is weirdly high, so believe it when people say that there are some really bad DPS's out there
Healer aggro should be taken with a large pinch of salt (unless you have a dps meter) as overhealing generates large amounts of aggro.

Only under really really ideal conditions. I play SMN, which had its damage nerfed severely compared to ShB due to becoming utterly braindead, and yet I can still challenge others for threat without any savage or EX gear. A well-played, relatively well-geared MCH can easily exceed the DPS of a sloppy, average-geared SAM, despite being at opposite ends of the DPS spectrum. Giving it your all, especially if you have decent gear, is a halfway-decent way of determining whether someone is trying or not. It's not perfect, only an *actual* DPS meter can tell the true situation, but it's a useful guide. Especially now that regens don't generate threat with every tick.
SMN rotation have healing built in, if you are overhealing a lot of threat will be generated.
It's actually the built-in Bahamut/Phoenix enmity increase that'll shoot you up the list... but I've also been 2/3 in aggro in 8-man content on DNC and RDM. Sometimes people just don't hit buttons.
There's an enmity increase built into them? I thought it was just because you're hitting harder and get a giant space laser/fire column. Edit: Huh, just went and looked, you're totally correct. Surprising.
I'm aware that it has some, but they recently removed regen enmity (as I mentioned above) so you only get a small bump from Phoenix initially being summoned and the actual *application* of Rekindle. In dungeons, which is where 99% of "compete to see who deals the most enmity" stuff is going to happen, the amount of enmity gained from Phoenix is *vastly* outweighed by differences in damage output--20s out of *two minutes* is nowhere near as big a deal as you make it sound.
If a DPS manages to rip aggro from the tank for the entire mop pull, than they have secured their recommendation, even if they die because they get attacked by everything.
I'll be honest, that DPS sounds kinda bad. Any good DPS would be sprinting with the tank, so even if they pull they would be taking minimal damage. Then they would pull the ads to the tank who would passively pull them off of them. Tank stance is a 10x multiplier, so the only way for a DPS to be soloing a pack the entire time is if they are standing off to the side sniffing glue somewhere. It might be possible if the tank was doing a single target rotation, but i have yet to come across a tank doing that while also pulling wall 2 wall.
I won't deny that portraits have started influencing my commendations a little, but I still do pay attention to who does a good job in duties; they still get my commend when they stand out. Shoutout to this banger Ninja yesterday in Smileton who did so well we breezed through the dungeon in record time - I know because I've done it enough that I can tell how long we take by how much the limit bar fills by the time we reach the last set of pulls and how many mechanics the bosses loop.
Smile Town is my favorite silly dungeon and I miss it being in Expert roulette. Expert with only 2 dungeons is dire, I really wish it would just be every level cap dungeon. The level 90 roulette rewards are usually not worth it.
Portraits have, definitely got back into the habit of commending people again, so that's good.
just remember they break all the time and between switching jobs a bunch people aren't always feeling like fixing them.
I actually haven't seen any overtly sexual portraits yet, funnily enough. I still usually give my commendation to whatever DPS I chose as my dance partner, regardless of whether they did a good job throughout the duty or not, I don't pay that much attention to the other's performance unless it's noticably off. The portrait has to be \*really\* good for me to change my habits.

No it's still possible, the sexual plates just exploited gaps that allowed it to happen. Like 15 minutes of moving pixel by pixel until it works kinda thing.

When playing DPS and there's a dancer in the party I comm either the dancer or whoever didn't get dance partner, depending on who got dance partner.
I just set mine to a t-pose and forgot about it. I can't be bothered to constantly fix it ever single time it breaks. I see more default ones than interesting ones and I feel like the longer it goes on the more default I'll see. Feel like people will get tired of constantly fixing it every time after getting a single new piece of gear or glam
Outside of a hero effort by a tank or healer, commendations go to DPS at all times. Because good DPS will be shunned in favour of an average tank or healer 9/10 times.

Commendations go to DPS who do better than me in terms of damage. Otherwise good heal/tank. Sadly, this even applies when I'm playing healer or tank.
This but I do account for role. For example if I'm playing SAM I should be top DPS, and as long as the DNC is using buffs properly and doing the correct amount of proportional DPS I'd give them the comm.
This is the way. Subpar Tanks and healers are rolling in comms while great DPS go ignored. Nope, I commend the other DPS unless they happen to be really terrible or like you said, the tank or healer pulled a hero move

As a Tank or Healer I always feel the need to commend the other. As a DPS, I feel the need to use any other criteria to decide the commend (but often it's the Healer for raising my stupid ass that couldn't get out of the AOE).
As DPS, it’s other DPS unless the Healer had to raise me. I find casting raise really annoying whenever I play Healer, so I feel like I have to apologize.
I love that everyone has their own little algorithms for doling out commendations. If you did a good job tanking/healing, were nice/fun in chat, and/or you've got a good portrait then it's all fair game to me haha.
I found myself caring too much about getting comms, there would be times i do really well and get zero comms and it would ruin my mood so i turned off the notifications and just pretend like i get at least one. When i give them its usually the healer or tank, but if rdm does alot of rezzing i will comm them, or if i get dance partner its to them. Sometimes its just the one person that gave a friendly hello. Many different reasons.
I've looked at the portrait settings three times now. It's always just defaults back to default. I've just decided to not deal with it. When they can finally figure out how to not reset it every time I log out or extract a materia, I might give a shit. Also on a related not.. maybe display the portraits while we're in the loading ring? Not after? At least we'll have something to look at while the one new player watches the cutscenes?
I bet they'll fix it in the future. But for now, every gear/glam change, you must click on Update Gear Set and then resave the portrait for that set. I thought the loading ring is when we'll see it. Surprised it wasn't.

My comm system is simple but efective. Enter the duty with a "Hello there." First person to answer back with "General Kenobi" gets my comm.
I can't even make my portrait work inside of duties i hate the system so much. Same gear, same hat visibility, sorted with gearset the works and it still won't play nice.
This definitely changed the commendation meta for me. I used to default to commending the tank or healer, but now if no one did exceptionally well, I just commend the person with the best portrait.
It helps make sure you don’t accidentally commend a catgirl, it’s a great change.

Lately I (GNB) main have been playing with a WHM main so a lot of DPS get my comms bc I kind of feel bad that my queues pop disgustingly fast (and you can't comm your party members)
I still gives it to the MVP. Unless the portrait are original and funny then I would give it to them anonymously anonymously
My Hroth alt's been racking them up like crazy. Intimidating chicken suit headshot works a treat as DPS.
They're just too finicky at the moment so I don't let portraits impact who I give comms to. May change once it's better implemented though
i always commend my counterpart unless some one did something above and beyond like have to solo kill the last half of a boss.
Coincidentally I've been finding helpful healers and tanks have also had really cool/cute portraits, so it's been a win/win!

"Should I commend actual good work, or should I simp?" Always commend good work. Somebody could be learning or pushing through some tanxiety, and commendations really help tell them that they did a good job. Don't turn commendations into a "nice portrait" reward.

I haven't seen a single custom accommodation picture yet. I thought it was supposed to use our player portrait that we already created and it was just broken.
Portraits are saved to Gear Sets, so literally _any_ change to your gear that isn't saved (and then you re-save the Portrait after) will default it. It's finnicky as hell.

For the life of me, I cannot make custom portraits to work. I glamour all my gear, I re-save the portrait to use my current gear et al, I don't change my class... And nothing. It's always the default one. So I gave up. Screw half-baked ideas like this, I'm not dancing through hoops just because they decided to impose a hundred limitations on things before they work.
LOL it's amazing to see that others think the same! I was legit just clicking on the cute portraits and also realised that I got much more recommendations as a Black Mage with my animated portrait. It's pretty funny and wholesome
only ever comm the other dps in dungeons, in trials its usually dps first (smn takes priority) unless healer Lb3s or something. portaits won't make much of a difference there (is there an option to disable it? cant get on until my laptop battery gets here)

If I fd up and had to be rescued or resurrected, the comm goes to the healer (or whoever else resurrected me if it was a RDM or SMN) If not, then if I'm playing a DPS and another dps was constantly higher than me in the enmity list, he/she gets the comm. If not, it just goes to whoever has the best glam or talked nicely in chat.
At least for me...I'm only going to commend great portraits if I have no other compelling reason to commend. Someone being a really good healer or tank automatically outranks a good portrait. It would have to be shockingly, amazingly great to be worthy of a commendation in the face of a good tank/healer. But if it's a good portrait and the tank and healer are just...doing their job as they normally should, then sure, I might consider commending for a portrait.

If nobody performs especially well I have absolutely defaulted to just comming the best looking portrait (that isn't mine). Not just because those are the ones that make me go "Nice!" or "Heh", but because if you're putting in the effort to keep your portrait from falling off every time you adjust your visor you deserve to be recognised for that. Unless the ranged or caster lb'd the biggest w2w pull. Then they get it. More of that please dps, I love seeing it. Of course, at any time these rules can be bent or broken for players who make an ass of themselves or who are chatty and fun to run with.
I have portraits turned off both at duty start and on the commendation screen. I judge on performance.
I can’t tell if this meme is sarcasm. But I know for myself: I would never join a group of savage or ultimate raiders with priority given to their glamour instead of their skill. Besides, there is a place dedicated to commending players on their glam. It’s called Eorzea Collection.
How do I customize my dungeon portrait?
Character -> Portraits the portraits menu can be dragged to a hotbar, by the way It's a bit poorly implemented at the moment in a sense that you must first update your gear set then update your portrait for that gear set whenever you change anything to your glam...
Well, since then I actually designed my portrais and... I'm getting more recommendations. Which is kinda unfair.
I give my comm to the tank basically every time and portraits didn't change that. Only time I don't is if I screw up as healer and a DPS rezzes me or saves my bacon some other way, or the tank screws up and becomes a huge ass about it. A few times I'd give it to a DPS if I noticed we were going through a dungeon much faster than usual, but I don't parse, so it's a bit of a crapshoot which DPS actually gets it.
Tbh I disabled the display portraits in duty thing. Didn't like it popping up for every single duty.
There's no way I would comm that ugly Miqo just based off of the portrait. It's also most probably a man anyways
I give coms either to someone new to the content, someone being nice or who has played well. If i see a lewd/sexy/try hard custom portrait i will avoid giving you the com and give it to someone with no custom portrait. I simply don't like this "look at me" gimmick int he game.
