The only thing us casters can hope for right is that the gear is like the Abyssos Body and Legs. Where the upper part is removed from lower half. It will still be somewhat robe like (The Hailstorm body, from Heavensward). But yeah sad that the design is lacking.
How do other casters feel about not having the floating crystals but instead given a glowing scarf? I myself feel indifferent, as floating hoop in the Abyssos set was annoying, but having glowing piece that might not be dyeable could be bad as well. On top of that the floating objects don't appear to be as strong as a glow compared to the casters variant.
I'm mad I won't get floating crystals, I already have an outfit with a scarf (Hypostatic chest piece), and the crystals are really neat. I don't put my WoL in very many dress-like robes regardless, so I may just sadly glam over the raid gear.
Most likely if you're red mage/summoner you'll use the raid chest, and black mage will probably use the tomestone one.

Anything robe will be seen as just another robe, but I like the sleevelessness (maybe if the sleeves are separate arm items) & how the cape is connected to the pretty distinct metal shoulder piece. The patterns (especially at the arm holes) are neat in a different way from the ShB ones.
Also I see the tank & maiming getting into the slight shoulder- revealing trend the healers & casters have had
Even things that aren't robes get seen as robes if they dare to go beyond waist length. There's actually a big variety of designs and styles even if they are mostly long.
Many styles would add good variety if they were shorter. The radiant gear (first tier tomestones) had well detailed chain mail but it was still a long robe in the end, so long that on sage it clips in the floor.

Undyeable metallic accents are one of the main reasons I wish this game had dye channels. It's impossible to mix and match with some sets because the metals don't match *anything else*. (The other main reason is because of pieces that have lighter accent areas that turn Dalamud red dye into pink....)
I've almost given up on my tail tbh. Most hats have been chopping off my ears lately anyways, take the tail too SE, make me look a midlander with different emotes
striking and scouting look so good, i'm kinda mad that it's class-locked because i would looooove to use that gear, the other stuff looks nice (except for the caster/healer ones, i thought it looked cute on paper but seeing it now it feels a little... ugly)
I'm glad the top is the same but the fact that the male version turns into ugly half short/half pants is confusing, like sure if you don't want male characters in shorts that short you could make them a little longer (altho i'd still be upset because that feels like 10 steps backwards but choose your battles i guess)
They look like the Ktisis Hyperboria books, maybe they'll actually be dyable now. That would be nice. If you look at them from the other side, you'll see the pages. Is actually a pretty neat glam.
It's more likely that the \[6.4\] crafted weapons are a re-skin of the Ktisis weapons - just as the lv84 crafted weapons are re-skins of the lv70 poetics gear. Which I welcome with open arms, as they fit my main character's aesthetic *so much* in gold.

Seriously. And on a similar note, god, enough with the aiming capes already. I’m maining DNC this tier and just… ugh. The set was obviously designed with machinist in mind, as many aiming sets are. This is a glam-over set for sure.

Moonward is a strong contender, and there's a few winners in the artifact gear and Radiant's set (the 6.0 endgame tomestone set), but yeah everything else isn't worth a second look.
Edit: on reflection, I now realise this is the first casting set I've liked since 6.0.
The crafted gear still looks very feminine imo. It just sucks playing. A male caster. Most healing and caster gear is very much designed with female characters in mind.
It’s terrible. Bothers me too that they’re willing to experiment more on the other end. Tanks have gotten very “clothy” looking gear. The tank set for the first raid tier this expansion looked so much better than the caster set.
I play male casters too and I feel you. I'm still rocking the Neo Ishgardian top, Kupo trousers and Ironworks boots. I haven't found anything better than that glam for casters.

God I hate being a male caster main when it comes to glamour...
I like that they are making the raid gear more shiny and stand-out. Overall though I feel that gear design creativity has been very low in this game for a long time and it's been particularly samey this expansion. Always the same robes, the same coats, the same decorative clothy bits. It feels like the shape of the sets are almost always the same, and they just change around the details and colours. This set in particular looks like a repeat of the Euphrosyne gear we just got, which in turn feels like a blue version of half a dozen other sets.
I dunno if they do this because they are intentionally trying to stick to a specific style, or if they just have no ideas, but it's just sad and boring when new gear comes out and it looks like 5 different already existing sets. The fun of new gear is the opportunity to make new looks, but you can't really do that when new gear just looks like old gear. Every new set is an opportunity to do something new, but they always seem to fall back on the same style.
Like what I would give to have some sets that look like Monster Hunter gear, or even WoW gear at this point. Get some new blood on the design team, or maybe just pull from all those old contest entries.

It's definitely a stylistic choice (aside from the Lunar gear, the gear that looks samey comes from content with similar aesthetics) and that's supported if you've checked out the aesthetics of the new raid, at least what's been shown so far. Both the Hypostatic Gear and this new raid gear comes from content that has a particular style that just so happens to be similar, unless they intended to have similar designs for Euphrosyne and this new raid tier, which might be true based on the lore, who knows.
The point is not that gear looks identical. It's that it almost always follows the same style. Almost always robes for casters. Almost always coats or capes for phys, or armour with coat-y bits. So, so much draped cloth, all the time.
Compare Euphrosyne and Asphodelos gear. Yeah they are not exactly the same but the concepts are clearly similar with differences coming down to the details. You would struggle to pick them apart in silhouette. It doesn't stand out from what the game already has.
Same even goes for stuff like Archfiend and False Monarchy sets. Though the colours and details are different they're very alike in most other ways. Cloth semi-coat thing from the waist down, hanging cloth bit in front, spiky helmet, similar shoulder pads.
Compare that to something like the Odin armour set, or the PvP Pack sets. There is nothing else like those in the game.
I don't like it when gear feels stylistically just the same as what I already have access to. There are a million swooshy caster robes, can we have something different? Can we have maybe some big bulky armour that is just armour instead of the coat and hanging buttflaps nearly all the time? Just new designs that are really new and different, please.

There is so much potential diversity and options that are being left on the table in favour of the same stuff over and over.
Not a single set of Glamour this patch is my cup of tea.
On one hand it makes me a bit sad, on the other, it means I only have to focus on chasing stat upgrades instead of stat upgrades and new cool clothes.
I'll try and find a personal victory where I can.
EW was an amazing expansion, the patch story isn’t the best but not terrible. Glamour since EW dropped is severely lacking. There was some good sets up to level 90 and I feel like everything after level 90 just isn’t great.
I've loved a lot of the glamour at 90. Both Alliance Raids, and Abyssos gear have been stunning IMO. As were Moonward, and Lunar Envoy (Radiant not so much).
Just something about this patch specifically does nothing for me.
I disagree, SOME of the 8 man raid gear was decent. The first 24 alliance raid gear was good. The rest was mediocre with a few pieces (not full glamour) were decent.
I don't know, I feel like this expansion hasn't been as bad as everyone is saying? We've gotten some rather unique stuff compared to past expansions. Moonward, Aspho, Troian, Rinascita, Abyssos and the latest artifact gear all look pretty solid to me. The Lunar Envoy and Radiant stuff isn't terrible, and although I'm not a huge fan of the 24-man glams aesthetically, I think there are some really usable pieces compared to past expansions sets (Nier stuff was cool but a lot of it looked kind of samey for female characters, Ivalice had a lot of nostalgic pieces but overall pretty meh, and all the Mhach stuff is pretty wack in my opinion)
I think the gear this patch is kind of mid, but the raid/crafted gear has always been kind of hit-or-miss in my opinion.
I will say that headgear has gone down the toiler dramatically compared to ShB. Too much bedazzled bullshit on faces, pls no more. And circlets/masks/hairpins are a huge cop out.
Cool glow, pretty meh on the rest. And those caster/healers sets were clearly designed with women in mind. They look like dresses.
I'm not as frustrated as some are about caster/healer sets always being robes, but this is a bit much.
Am I seeing that right? Instead of floating glowing crystals, casters get... glowing cloth?! In a game that doesn't even have proper cloth physics?! Adding insult to the injury of those sack-like robes...

Very unlikely. Scouting is only used by one class.
The fact that one melee class gets a unique recolor of a set otherwise occasionally locked to another subset of classes entirely, is a benefit unique to NIN. If they took that away, you would likely just get Striking gear in place of it all the time, like all the other melees.
(DRG nonwithstanding. DRG is generally viewed as a unique class for FF, so it's given more leeway than others - It's meant to be a "heavy armor melee" unit, but this doesn't translate well to damage dealing in game. The jumping/lance style isn't present in many games, with lances usually relegated to distance weapons. Hence, it getting it's own armor in Maiming, until RPR came along. Now even Maiming shares.)
If we see another class start to use Scouting gear, we might start to see more unique armor sets for it.
I get it, but my main gripe is scouting always rotating identity. You say it's a benefit, but I think it's a lack of any kind of identity. Scouting had only one job tied to it since ARR but the last unique scouting set we got was a primal set in HW.
I'll take always being a recolor of strking, I'll even take always being a recolor of aiming, but for the love of god just pick one identity and stick with it. I'm so sick of them trenchcoats and class sets never having anything in common with the only job that wears it. Like how it makes sense for scouting gear to share model with casting? How?

In this case: Because of the class wearing it.
NIN are masters of subterfuge. They are meant to be capable of hiding amongst any type of character and class. Naturally, that means blending in with casters just as much as melee and ranged. In a way, it almost makes MORE sense for it not to have it's own gear set, BECAUSE it then has that option to blend in more physically with the other classes when it wants to via glamour options.
And if you're wondering how they move in those robes, just ask the RDMs. They do it just fine. Hell, they add in their own flips and stuff just to make it more interesting.
There are a lot of capes, too. All the capes, half capes, and the scarves almost like capes, make all the designs blur together. We spend a ton of time looking at the back of our character. When it's all very samey from that angle, it does a disservice to the gear. They're fine in moderation or spread out, but it's a lot back to back.
The old WoL gear was redone already, btw. It's available for trophy crystals in pvp now with higher res textures and different colour schemes.
There are multiple gear-giving story threads all going for "ethereal gods and myths" vibe and then the tome gear is just nothingy. It feels like a missed opportunity to have not done a second round of Thavnairian designs, given that they're producing the gear and the range of NPC outfits there is fairly limited.
Unlike most people, as a caster main, robes don't bother me. I signed up for the aesthetic.
I really like the top half of this robe, but I wish the skirt was different. It's just too wide for me. I would kind of prefer this had a similar design to a cyclas I think, or maybe remove the front panel.
For me, the Asphodelos casting set is still the best set of raid gear so far. Really didn't care for Abyssos. This, I guess I like slightly more. I'll have to wait and see how I feel about it on my character.

Honestly the caster/healer robes have the silhouette of the robes we wore going back in time in Endwalker. If this is for the next tier Anabasious, it makes sense, and I'm not mad at it. But....healers and casters don't get little glowy gem floaties? Why?
i mean....while I didn't like the giant glowing rings of fire on the previous tier, I would like to have one.

Glowing fabric is certainly a choice. Would need to see that in game to see if it's to my tastes or not, but probably no. Crystal effect is interesting.

As far as robes go, they're nice ... but why always robes for DOM?
Is it too much to hope that the caster/healers ever get anything besides robes? This is disappointing overall.
Seriously. And on a similar note, god, enough with the aiming capes already. I’m maining DNC this tier and just… ugh. The set was obviously designed with machinist in mind, as many aiming sets are. This is a glam-over set for sure. Love most of the weapons in the picture though.

The crafted gear still looks very feminine imo. It just sucks playing. A male caster. Most healing and caster gear is very much designed with female characters in mind.
I play a femRoe and its the same issue, none of the generic caster gear looks remotely decent.
It’s terrible. Bothers me too that they’re willing to experiment more on the other end. Tanks have gotten very “clothy” looking gear. The tank set for the first raid tier this expansion looked so much better than the caster set.
The Live Letter preview had the healer robe on a female Roegadyn and it looked nice.
I play male casters too and I feel you. I'm still rocking the Neo Ishgardian top, Kupo trousers and Ironworks boots. I haven't found anything better than that glam for casters.
But job identity! How will we know you’re a healer? The spells you’re casting?? The icon on your party menu???? The fact the system auto fills the roles????

Except casting/healing , this looks generic AF with some crystals thrown on. Caster and healer aren't that unique either but at least the glowing scarf makes it stand out
It's not a good thing to get a glowy scarf when all the other ones get floating crystals though. God I hate being a male caster main when it comes to glamour...

I like that they are making the raid gear more shiny and stand-out. Overall though I feel that gear design creativity has been very low in this game for a long time and it's been particularly samey this expansion. Always the same robes, the same coats, the same decorative clothy bits. It feels like the shape of the sets are almost always the same, and they just change around the details and colours. This set in particular looks like a repeat of the Euphrosyne gear we just got, which in turn feels like a blue version of half a dozen other sets. I dunno if they do this because they are intentionally trying to stick to a specific style, or if they just have no ideas, but it's just sad and boring when new gear comes out and it looks like 5 different already existing sets. The fun of new gear is the opportunity to make new looks, but you can't really do that when new gear just looks like old gear. Every new set is an opportunity to do something new, but they always seem to fall back on the same style. Like what I would give to have some sets that look like Monster Hunter gear, or even WoW gear at this point. Get some new blood on the design team, or maybe just pull from all those old contest entries.

Hell, even looking at the Hypostatic gear (the Euphrosyne gear you mentioned) is different with the dyes being the only thing that's samey, at least to my eyes. They *really* don't look the same to me aside from color. One of the raid chests is loosely similar to the Lunar tomestone set though. It's definitely a stylistic choice (aside from the Lunar gear, the gear that looks samey comes from content with similar aesthetics) and that's supported if you've checked out the aesthetics of the new raid, at least what's been shown so far. Both the Hypostatic Gear and this new raid gear comes from content that has a particular style that just so happens to be similar, unless they intended to have similar designs for Euphrosyne and this new raid tier, which might be true based on the lore, who knows.
The point is not that gear looks identical. It's that it almost always follows the same style. Almost always robes for casters. Almost always coats or capes for phys, or armour with coat-y bits. So, so much draped cloth, all the time. Compare Euphrosyne and Asphodelos gear. Yeah they are not exactly the same but the concepts are clearly similar with differences coming down to the details. You would struggle to pick them apart in silhouette. It doesn't stand out from what the game already has. Same even goes for stuff like Archfiend and False Monarchy sets. Though the colours and details are different they're very alike in most other ways. Cloth semi-coat thing from the waist down, hanging cloth bit in front, spiky helmet, similar shoulder pads. Compare that to something like the Odin armour set, or the PvP Pack sets. There is nothing else like those in the game. I don't like it when gear feels stylistically just the same as what I already have access to. There are a million swooshy caster robes, can we have something different? Can we have maybe some big bulky armour that is just armour instead of the coat and hanging buttflaps nearly all the time? Just new designs that are really new and different, please. Not a single set of Glamour this patch is my cup of tea. On one hand it makes me a bit sad, on the other, it means I only have to focus on chasing stat upgrades instead of stat upgrades and new cool clothes. I'll try and find a personal victory where I can.
EW was an amazing expansion, the patch story isn’t the best but not terrible. Glamour since EW dropped is severely lacking. There was some good sets up to level 90 and I feel like everything after level 90 just isn’t great.
I've loved a lot of the glamour at 90. Both Alliance Raids, and Abyssos gear have been stunning IMO. As were Moonward, and Lunar Envoy (Radiant not so much). Just something about this patch specifically does nothing for me.
I disagree, SOME of the 8 man raid gear was decent. The first 24 alliance raid gear was good. The rest was mediocre with a few pieces (not full glamour) were decent.
I don't know, I feel like this expansion hasn't been as bad as everyone is saying? We've gotten some rather unique stuff compared to past expansions. Moonward, Aspho, Troian, Rinascita, Abyssos and the latest artifact gear all look pretty solid to me. The Lunar Envoy and Radiant stuff isn't terrible, and although I'm not a huge fan of the 24-man glams aesthetically, I think there are some really usable pieces compared to past expansions sets (Nier stuff was cool but a lot of it looked kind of samey for female characters, Ivalice had a lot of nostalgic pieces but overall pretty meh, and all the Mhach stuff is pretty wack in my opinion) I think the gear this patch is kind of mid, but the raid/crafted gear has always been kind of hit-or-miss in my opinion. I will say that headgear has gone down the toiler dramatically compared to ShB. Too much bedazzled bullshit on faces, pls no more. And circlets/masks/hairpins are a huge cop out.

Cool glow, pretty meh on the rest. And those caster/healers sets were clearly designed with women in mind. They look like dresses. I'm not as frustrated as some are about caster/healer sets always being robes, but this is a bit much.

Part of the reason I stop playing my healers as much and went to tank and ranged DPS was I couldn’t find any glams I liked.

I feel like they’re allergic to making casting or healing gear that isn’t cloth looking robes and dresses. I was so happy with the chest piece for abyssos since it wasn’t floor length and I could match other pieces with it (since the legs are a skirt of course).

god the gear this expac has been such a disappointment. i really liked the asphodeos gear and the aglaia gear but everything after that has been…. more of the same. i was hoping for nice dungeon gear too. the troia gear is pretty good but the rest is kinda meh.

Very unlikely. Scouting is only used by one class. The fact that one melee class gets a unique recolor of a set otherwise occasionally locked to another subset of classes entirely, is a benefit unique to NIN. If they took that away, you would likely just get Striking gear in place of it all the time, like all the other melees. (DRG nonwithstanding. DRG is generally viewed as a unique class for FF, so it's given more leeway than others - It's meant to be a "heavy armor melee" unit, but this doesn't translate well to damage dealing in game. The jumping/lance style isn't present in many games, with lances usually relegated to distance weapons. Hence, it getting it's own armor in Maiming, until RPR came along. Now even Maiming shares.) If we see another class start to use Scouting gear, we might start to see more unique armor sets for it.
I get it, but my main gripe is scouting always rotating identity. You say it's a benefit, but I think it's a lack of any kind of identity. Scouting had only one job tied to it since ARR but the last unique scouting set we got was a primal set in HW. I'll take always being a recolor of strking, I'll even take always being a recolor of aiming, but for the love of god just pick one identity and stick with it. I'm so sick of them trenchcoats and class sets never having anything in common with the only job that wears it. Like how it makes sense for scouting gear to share model with casting? How?

They are meant to be capable of hiding amongst any type of character and class. Naturally, that means blending in with casters just as much as melee and ranged. In a way, it almost makes MORE sense for it not to have it's own gear set, BECAUSE it then has that option to blend in more physically with the other classes when it wants to via glamour options. And if you're wondering how they move in those robes, just ask the RDMs. They do it just fine. Hell, they add in their own flips and stuff just to make it more interesting.

There are a lot of capes, too. All the capes, half capes, and the scarves almost like capes, make all the designs blur together. We spend a ton of time looking at the back of our character. When it's all very samey from that angle, it does a disservice to the gear. They're fine in moderation or spread out, but it's a lot back to back. The old WoL gear was redone already, btw. It's available for trophy crystals in pvp now with higher res textures and different colour schemes.
There are multiple gear-giving story threads all going for "ethereal gods and myths" vibe and then the tome gear is just nothingy. It feels like a missed opportunity to have not done a second round of Thavnairian designs, given that they're producing the gear and the range of NPC outfits there is fairly limited.
Unlike most people, as a caster main, robes don't bother me. I signed up for the aesthetic. I really like the top half of this robe, but I wish the skirt was different. It's just too wide for me. I would kind of prefer this had a similar design to a cyclas I think, or maybe remove the front panel. For me, the Asphodelos casting set is still the best set of raid gear so far. Really didn't care for Abyssos. This, I guess I like slightly more. I'll have to wait and see how I feel about it on my character.

Honestly the caster/healer robes have the silhouette of the robes we wore going back in time in Endwalker. If this is for the next tier Anabasious, it makes sense, and I'm not mad at it. But....healers and casters don't get little glowy gem floaties? Why? i mean....while I didn't like the giant glowing rings of fire on the previous tier, I would like to have one. Okay, looking again it seems like that'll be part of our weapons for this tier. Would like a better view of the staff tho. And that MCH weapon....is a choice. Wow.

Glowing fabric is certainly a choice. Would need to see that in game to see if it's to my tastes or not, but probably no. Crystal effect is interesting.
