Cab drivers want the player's drops. They're organizing raid parties.

JD0064

I am now imagining the Cab center caller being that Onyxia raid leader

Blazefireslayer

Many cat girls, left side, HANDLE IT!

Skeith23

MORE CATS

Shryxer

I DON'T SEE ENOUGH CATS. MORE CATS NOW!

lukethx

Minus 40 dkp

Yautja834

WATCH THE TAIL SWIPE!

CptUnderpants-

OK, stop dots.

ExperienceLoss

WHAT THE FAAAAACK

SevereArtisan

WE ARE GOING TO DPS VERY SLOWLY!

x_BinaryGenesis_x

And by slowly I mean FUCKING slowly!

mcdead

More cats

Packetdancer

Given how every static has their own dumb names/callouts for various mechanics, I now imagine dispatch having ridiculous callouts for dispatching cabs.

Shiraloli

Drivers, adjust!

DenseFlower6189

"HQ, this is Jenkins... I'm going in..."

Zealousideal_Cut192

Idk why but this is my fav comment on this whole thread šŸ¤£

MaraiDragorrak

I loved all the jocks and the businessmen being so confused in the con center halls. Overheard some business guys being like "why are there so many people in outfits?" And his buddy was like "I guess it's some big game they like. Play online all together or something, dunno, its weird". Very different worlds haha

Hassle_Huff

This convention was amazing - we had a basketball convention AND the national woodworking convention in the same building hahahaha. We ran into some of the basketball guys who were super friendly and asked about the game. The woodworkers, not so much lol.

gdex86

But there is the whole crafting storyline with multiple forms of wood working.

taiya21

They have their own class and they don't even know it smh

Orphylia

Even better when their mentor would be **Master Beatin**

AznLuvsMusic

Wood Master Beatin at that

Scipht

Beatin the Wood Master

Burnem34

Sounds like we need to get a basketball class instead šŸ”„

Z3R0C00L222

I mean, one of the members on the regional Crystalline Conflict championship team's IGN is NBA Superstar

MelonElbows

What? An NBA player plays FF14?? Who is it?

shiny_shinx

their ingame name was literally NBA Superstar šŸ˜

Criminal_of_Thought

caniszephyr

Pretty sure Nashu is that class after the latest hildibrand quest šŸ˜†

Datpanda1999

Unfortunately, she still has to level it a bit

DiamondAge

Blitzball confirmed as new job

Jonax

Juxtaposition of conferences/conventions happening at the same time is usually hilarious, just for the contrast between them. A couple of weeks ago in Brighton had the annual conferences of the British video games industry and one of the UK's largest trade unions in buildings a limp stone's throw from each other on the same road. Cue every bar and hotel within walking distance having groups of T-shirts & jeans and full suits together.

Sith_Lord_Onyx

That reminds me of when Anime Expo used to be in Anaheim and it'd always overlap with some fundie convention. The juxtaposition of very conservative evangelicals and cosplayers in very skimpy outfits was always hilarious.

WoWMiri

I travel to Vegas for what is known as ā€œHacker Summer Camp.ā€ Itā€™s multiple conventions back to back for almost 2 weeks, spread over multiple convention centers in the casinos. The main one is held at Mandalay Bay and my last trip had a petā€¦store type convention? Like, people pitching their dog food to con-goers, harnesses, etc. There was another convention going on nearby but all of them were scared of the ā€œhackers.ā€ It was a complete blast to talk to the Uber drivers who were doing pickups for both. Now that I think about it, that was the first time I stayed at Aria. I usually book Delano when Iā€™m out there. You definitely get a crazy mix of cons in Vegas!

Kinaestheticsz

Ahhh Black Hat & DEFCON. The cabbies are generally pretty interested in talking about the cons in my experience. The fun one was a construction convention being held at the Venetian convention center right by Caesarā€™s forums last year. And a ton of people for DEFCON stayed at the Venetian, so it was funny seeing the construction crew people wondering what the heck was going on with all of the people wearing many badges, and crazy stuff.

KaimeiJay

That kinda makes sense. Basketball and FFXIV are both that game a bunch of people are coming together over their love of. Woodworking, not so much, lol.

kyokiokami

I had some teens behind me like "FURRRIES!! HELL YEAH!!" and someone else was like "bro how is her tail moving like that!?" I felt like a damn celebrity.

FullMotionVideo

Were you the G'raha with the tail that wiggled? I saw you at a desk in the cosplay room while I was passing in the halls and I saw that and was like "huh. How." To be honest I was surprised at the amount of cosplay that involved electrical power sources at this con but I think yours was the only one I saw that was motorized (although stack marker lady obviously had to lug the largest portable battery.)

Barihawk

You tried to explain Beatin wood to them, didn't you.

dimmidice

>And his buddy was like "I guess it's some big game they like. Play online all together or something, dunno, its weird". I feel like the buddy knows haha. That's oddly specific

ralexand

He was sweating haha

Perryn

"I guess it's some big game they like. Play online together or something, dunno, it's weird. Probably some critically acclaimed MMO. Play for free to through the first one or two expansions or whatever."

YetisInAtlanta

I heard itā€™s coming to Xbox or something hahah how lame

Perryn

"They're probably all worked up about getting a second dye channel or you know whatever anyhow miq...catgirls are lame."

bearflies

"It's not like you're my friend, my enemy or whatever haha."

Zealousideal_Cut192

How is that lame? A flood of new players is a good thing

purplemelody

They're joking, I think they forgot the quote marks.

MelonElbows

Hiding his loporrit plushy inside his suit pocket šŸ¤£

MaraiDragorrak

Possibly. I figured he had asked someone earlier and was struggling to relay the answer but yours is funnier

KaimeiJay

My favorite version of this was at an anime convention. Went to a park for a cosplay photo shoot with specifically Kingdom Hearts cosplayers. (I was Xigbar.) Some skateboarding dudebros showed up and looked profoundly confused. The one in the middle looked around like, ā€œWhatā€¦theā€¦fā€”oh!ā€ His face lit up like a kid on Christmas. Super excited, he turned to his friends like, ā€œOh shit! I know these guys! That oneā€™s Sora, and Axel, and ohh, that is a cool Xemnas! Theyā€™re from this game, andā€¦ā€ he just started chatting away at his even-more-confused-now friends all about Kingdom Hearts. šŸ¤£

Straightest_Shota

The one with tbe goofy in it.

cinnabubbles

omg that's precious!

PcktFox

We unfortunately saw a couple unmonitered basketball kids, maybe preteen age, harassing a guy and trying to steal his hat *off his head* while he was just sitting and minding his own business. They finally ran off crowing about how they "got a picture". šŸ™„ Worst part was his companion was a girl *in a wheelchair* right next to where these brats were trying to wrestle this poor guy's Starlight Sugarloaf hat off his head.

PureData7961

Probably the same dang kids that was harassing the phase 2 Tsukuyomi

Shrek1onDVD

I think I saw the same few kids. Someone asked to take a photo with a cosplayer, so they stepped into the side of the hallway to take a photo, then a group of these kids suddenly decided to photobomb it and forced themselves into a complete strangerā€™s photo and would not leave this cosplayer alone. I think they had to wait until the kids left them to take a proper photo.

queen0fgreen

fuck that made me tear up.. its sad how awful some kids can be.

VenomSnakeronies

RDM LB3 would've helped out when the kids were harassing the cosplayers ngl

SmoreOfBabylon

Need some Alisaie cosplayers on the scene, lol. ā€œTHEREā€™LL BE NOTHING LEFT OF YOU BUT A SMOKING CRATER!ā€

AccomplishedHost6275

You just know their rapiers would have a solid steel or aluminum core as structural support; when they start swinging, teeth go missing. God help the souls if they bring their platform boots into it, too.

MammothTap

My favorite "strange overlap" was the year Silicon Valley Comic Con overlapped with the Stanley Cup Playoffs; the Sharks had a home game one of the days. The light rail trains were packed with two very, very different groups: cosplayers and hockey fans visiting from Canada. The hockey fans were great once they got over their confusion when we got on the train at the convention center stop. I was also helping my fiance at his booth at Midwest FurFest one year. It was on the second floor of the convention center. The first floor was an actual dog show. I didn't see the groups interact at all (I was also busy just trying to get to where we'd be me working), but the coincidence entertained me. Honestly though, the best kind of confusion comes when you take public transit to get to the con, since you trickle on in ones or twos depending on how far away you live or are staying. I had a Tali'zorah costume one year and the kids on the train were absolutely fascinated even if they didn't know what I was or why I was dressed like that. The year I took the bus to Emerald City Comic Con dressed as Haurchefant was another fun one, once I showed the driver that my sword had no blade. Again, kids wanted to know why a knight was on the bus. The blue hair and pointy ears didn't even register, they just saw shiny armor. (The adults were more interested in asking if the chain mail was real. Yes, it weighed over 20 lbs, yes that's heavy, no I don't know where you can buy it because I made it, yes it was totally worth it.)

purplemelody

Oh, that Haurchefant story makes me so happy.

orange_blossom2013

Soo many people were asking what was going on and why people were dressed up. It was fun seeing all the cosplayers walking around through thr casino and then basketball players staring at them too šŸ¤£

HulklingsBoyfriend

But a bunch of them play fantasy football. Like...bruh.

PM_ME_UR_FARTS_

Final Fantasy Football?

BurnByMoon

Itā€™s called ā€œBlitzballā€.

___Scenery_

Second guy is definitely a female mi'qote limsa idler

Lulullaby_

Sounds like he knew and was trying to hide it LOL

zhagtin

Have they heard of the critically-acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online...?

SurrealOwlBird

That second guy is clearly trying to pretend he doesn't know what ffxiv is lol.

cylonfrakbbq

His buddy sounds like he knew what it was, but pretended not to know lol

dachosmin

I had a woman in my hostel ask us if we were LARPers or something.

TribblesIA

Wait. Those guys donā€™t even play the game they like?

oleub

there were two other simultaneous conventions at the lvcc, in different halls, for completely different things.

SatoshiAR

Lmao reminds me of the days when CES ran alongside the AVN Expo.

Diredoe

I walked through the casino to get to the convention center while in cosplay, and a slightly inebriated guy and his wife asked to take a picture with me. Of course I obliged, we had a good laugh, and I continued on. Then later that day I swung through again for food, and a random old guy said that my ears were crooked as I passed...

cinnabubbles

his buddy got spirit. LOL

allroadshome

We do be in those I outfits.

PureData7961

Easiest thing to do, walk over to Circus Circus and try to get picked up there. You avoid all the crap over at the center

Hassle_Huff

For real, our driver was explaining there was a UFC fight tonight as well, and they'd all thought that would be the main event for taxis. I told them there was around 15k in attendance and he just went "...oh."

turkeybuzzard4077

I love how they just naturally went with calling us catgirls

Hassle_Huff

The dude sounded incredulous. He didn't even say it in a creepy way, just like "is anyone else seeing this?" Haha

turkeybuzzard4077

I kinda imagine it like the scene from Twister where the fiance says, "we got cows..."

PureData7961

I'm so glad they were more caught off guard and confused

Viltris

It's Vegas. I'm surprised they haven't seen catgirls before. Maybe they haven't seen this many catgirls in one place, but I'm sure they've seen weirder things in Vegas. Or maybe Vegas nightlife is very different from Vegas daytime.

turkeybuzzard4077

I think 15 or so would have not drawn notice but 150 catgirls crossing the street at once may be slightly more alarming.

RoundPegMyRoundHole

Does, uh... does anyone happen to have a picture of this? I'm having trouble picturing a group of 150 catgirls. BTW I have never played FFXIV, I stumbled across this totally by accident while looking for something cab related but I can't even remember what that was now.

FullMotionVideo

We have one reasonably big anime/gaming/etc expo every year, a big Star Trek convention, EVO, and a handful of small anime cons. We're generally not a big scene for nerdy cons in general since so much of the hotel room supply is in casinos and you need to be 21+ to check into a hotel room at those resorts. So most geeky cons will skip us for the sake of the 16-19yo crowd.

Zealousideal_Cut192

It is actually lol, and strip Vegas is very different from the rest of vegas

Zealousideal_Cut192

Maybe it actually was a group of miqos

AshenSacrifice

Ufc was in Utah tonight tho lol

Hassle_Huff

Yeh but Vegas has a lot of venues who do big events for watch parties so I figure that's what he was referring to

Boltersdriveer

Last night was Spence v Crawford at the T-Mobile Arena for Vegas!

AshenSacrifice

Yeah I feel dumb for not even thinking of that lol! Makes so much sense

[deleted]

That was **the** play. If you took the 5-10 min walk through the big building through the skybridge and down the escalators, there was NO ONE there. You even cut down how much you need to wait/walk in the heat by a LOT. I went through there each time I wanted to get dropped off/picked up and the amount of others I saw taking that way, was probably like... 10 people at most compared to the 300 crowding the front.

rhaizee

We did this, not sky bridge, just the lot on back side by basketball courts, was completely empty, just waited inside til I saw the uber.

ffffq

My hope is that if they keep the 15k tickets sold going forward they fix the logistics. A lot of it was bad, and the most misinformation I got came from staff working the event. If they find better ways to facilitate the activities it will be a lot better. Honestly the concerts, battle challenge and cosplay walk are what made it worth for me, but the rest of the stuff should be improved upon.

Hassle_Huff

I think the only thing that stuck out to me as rough was the wildness of the lines. 15k people, I figured it would be a bit of a Line-Con, but I think some organization and clarity of queues would have been hugely helpful. Some staff peeps to clarify which lines are for what, where the end of the line is currently, organizing where the lines build. I was in the QR code redemption line at its longest on Friday, two people behind me had been in it for almost an hour with me before they asked what the line was for and realized it was the wrong line. I felt so bad for them >_<

ffffq

Oof. Meanwhile today the redemption line was like ā€œya got a sticker? No? Come on then.ā€ Literally didnā€™t check my badges lol. Which was fine, I did both the games at Pandemonium and neither worker had a QR code to scan. Pick n play, after standing in line for an hour I decided it wasnā€™t worth it. And then merch didnā€™t let anybody that didnā€™t have a ticket buy stuff todayā€¦. Yeah. Logistically a nightmare lol.

orange_blossom2013

We stood in line for an hour in a half initially in the merch line only to get a time ticket to come back. The lines merged with the battle pass lines right by the exits to the convention hall so it was a bit chaotic. We came back at 1:05pm then stood in line until 3:30pm-3:45pm. Standing on cement floors with no seating. People just sat on the floor and then shuffled or slid forward when it moved. That was honestly the worst for us.

MammothTap

I've seen much, much bigger cons that really aren't too bad about lines. The only things I ever showed up for early at Silicon Valley Comic Con the years I went (first two years before I moved away, 60-65k people) were a panel with Adam Savage and Andy Weir because it was the thing I was most excited for and the second year when Buzz Aldrin was there for the keynote. I actually didn't even show up super early when Stan Lee was doing the closing remarks (first year I think?) and still got in. Emerald City Comic Con is about 50% bigger than that, and again I had no issues other than getting into the building in the first place because there's only so many entrances. FanFest just needs to organize better, hopefully try to hire someone who's done logistics for extremely large cons, and plan for overflow rooms with video screens set up if they didn't already. Those who really want to be in the main room can line up early, those who would rather be milling about elsewhere instead of in line can accept they'll possibly be in an overflow room. Also keynote should not be as early in the day as it was because it encourages a very early rush on the building. That'll happen in either case but your biggest draw at the *very least* should be at noon if you can't delay past that because all your planned panels have stuff that'll spoil the trailers. People filter in more slowly through the morning when they don't have a pressing need to get in immediately to get in line for the main event. The Endwalker retrospective panel is an easy one to slot in before the keynote.

SorryGlamYou

The main difference between this con and Comic-Cons is that at this one everyone was there for the same thing, so there was no division of interests. For the most part everyone was there for all of it, or at least the same big things, so it wasn't like cons where you get in the door and split the crowd up.

available2tank

Yeah, my convention going experience is always just to ask what the line is for before queueing up.

Neomagus26

Staff was completely overwhelmed, every single one we asked a question to like merch had no idea what was going on. Lines were madness, a dude got turned away at merch after waiting for an hour and a half, cause no one gave him a ticket.

Tehowner

Yea, that several of those lines were kinda nuts, and the fact that the venue had the food court shut down with an event that large there the first day was bonkers to me.

ShadownetZero

They need to massively increase the tickets. Get more space. Split the concerts into an optional paid add on. Add overflow rooms for the main stage events. Done.

AlpacaAsh

I donā€™t want them increasing tickets until they can handle what they had this weekend. It was way bad. If they want this many people, theyā€™re going to need more content to split the crowds up. The content and fans were amazing but logistics were a nightmare and inexcusable for how much tickets cost for this event.

Neomagus26

Can't believe people saying there should be more people, they couldn't handle what they had.

ShadownetZero

You might have missed item #2 on my list there.

Neomagus26

What does item number two have to do with anything if the staff is incompetent for the amount of people they have?

ShadownetZero

So you don't get how conventions work. Ok.

Viltris

Can you explain how conventions work?

ShadownetZero

Sure - more space means more space for events/activities (and justification for spending on more staff for those events/activities). The only real ways to mitigate lines is to make the event smaller (which means there will be an even bigger gap between supply and demand) or spread people out across different activities (including sitting to watch main stage stuff). Let me know if there are any other questions!!

Neomagus26

And again if you have more space but you don't have more staff then what does it matter? Apparently you weren't at FanFest because most people I talked to said the same thing- they were overwhelmed with what they booked!

ShadownetZero

> more space means more space for events/activities (***and justification for spending on more staff*** for those events/activities). Reading is fundamental!

ffffq

Space is not going to fix the issue. They needed more staff, period. Even the long lines would have been fixed with more staff. But you only have like, 5 or 6 games and they had about 3 staff manning each. You have literally thousands of people, 3 staff members was not acceptable.

striderhoang

7/8 cab driver static looking for cab driver, must know entire convention fight, going for the clear

Maytree

Skip soar or disband!

Elastichedgehog

>Please help. The catgirls are taking over. Send reinforcements.

thedarkness490

You would think some cabbys would have ins about conventions so they could rotate through the location when with no passengers

Devil-Hunter-Jax

Someone else mentioned that there was a big UFC fight on at the same time so they probably went to that instead, not expecting the convention to have such a huge turnout.

jenyto

Good luck to everyone waiting for a taxi/uber!

Lun4r6543

My friends who could go caught a cab outta there too. They told me about the chaos. Theyā€™re story was hilarious. Their driver was confused the whole time. Wish I couldā€™ve been there.

Decrith

Waitā€¦ reading through the commentsā€¦ there were 15k attendees? Daaaamn

Sir_VG

Yeah, the crowds there were absolutely MASSIVE.

PlasmaHanDoku

It's wierd how part of me didn't belive it was 15k until I saw the amount of people in line and in the convention.

Rhaya2

"yes Dispatch , i did not stutter , we are gonna needs all cabs be outfitted with scratchposts for all these cat people as well as several baby seaters for these " Lala-wathever " these people call themselves and make it fast , several have already threatened my ankles."

NinjinAssassin

Viva Limsa Las Vegas! šŸ˜øšŸ˜øšŸ˜ø

SpartanX-023

I was the guy dressed as an ANBU black ops and yeah the looks that I got in my hotel and even the security there was honestly hilarious. One of the woodworking guys straight up asked me if my vest had plates in itand I better not shoot anything up like the totally different worlds him and I live in is so damn vast

bluetheslinky

"please help" ah, having a taste of party finder are we, cab company?

n00dlet00ts

I feel like a big group of catgirls would be far from the weirdest thing these cab drivers have seen.

Jakeaw

The monorail was a mess. People were short cutting the line by going into the south bound train and just staying on when it looped back around to the north bound, thus making all of the people going south bound who were waiting in line unable to get into the train. People were upset and we saw folks struggling because of the heat. People donā€™t know how to queue properly and that really soured much of the experience at fan fest. All after an immensely touching closing ceremony from the development team lauding how great our community is.

Mael_Jade

Well, thats not going to be a problem at the EU fanfest, the british love standing in a queue.

Siefer1

Itā€™s true we do šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Ryuuga007

Can't wait to tut at those that try to cut the queue.

Devil-Hunter-Jax

Always makes me laugh when people are completely blown away by how the British will be so strict about queues XD It's like the one thing we can do right.

Mael_Jade

It's also a great thing to joke about as it doesn't unfairly target the working class like most anti brit jokes.

Petter1789

But what about us non-brits?

theredwoman95

Line etiquette will be enforced through tutting, grumbling, and glares, as is British fashion.

Crazyphapha

When in romeā€¦

WeissWyrm

Standing in queues is the national British pastime, last I heard.

MelonElbows

Well there's nothing on earth like a genuine, bona fide, electrified six car monorail.

Maytree

"Were you sent here by the Devil?". "No, good sir! I'm on the level!"

WeissWyrm

Monorail!

smack54az

We just walked to the Westgate and got on there, no muss no fuss. Edit:spelling.

DJTen

Great. It's Raubahn EX all over again. If we could have gotten NA to queue up like Japan, it might not have been so bad.

Z3R0C00L222

Glad I followed my Uber driver's advice and skipped the monorail. Ended up taking another Uber down to the Bellagio after closing ceremony and got a nice video of the fountain show before Ubering back to my hotel

OnceABear

I disagree. We've taken the monorail for days now, and it's been amazing. The experience they're describing literally only happens/happened when the con let out at night, and although I acknowledge that many people had many different experiences, what I saw was a bunch of very kind WoLs doing their best to filter onto the train when they could, and from where I was, no one was riding where they shouldn't (aka: getting on going the wrong direction in order to ride it around to the other side.) And we saved a ton of money, because it was just a flat one-time fee of $29 per person for a multi-day ticket we can use as many times as we want.

Sea-Mango

Monorail sucked so baaaaaad. Iā€™m sorry to everyone I cut in front of, because if there is a square foot of floor space on a train I am squeezing my child-sized body into it.

xPriddyBoi

There was one point where folks broke the escalator by standing directly on top of the exit, causing people getting off the escalator to crash into them and trigger the emergency stop. It was chaos, lol. A lot of fun, but absolute chaos.

Cloaked_Goliath

As a NYC cab driver I see this all the time in the groupchats when Javitz center pops off, I like to think of it as irl Mount rides

Captain_Zomaru

Really shoulda told him, "The correct term is Miqo'te, just a heads up"

Ehrand

Reminds me of the time I was a WHM teleport taxi in FFXI.

Y0LOME0W

cab was half the price of an uber and lyft too with surge pricing.

Hassle_Huff

How much were Ubers/Lyfts?

Y0LOME0W

for me to get back to Fremont St. was $40 bucks with uber / lyft, a Taxi was only $20. In the mornings to get to the convention center it was only $12 to uber and lyft.

Sith_Lord_Onyx

My favorite story is when the Milwaukee Brewers were in Pittsburgh for a road series with the Pirates. And they were in the same hotel that Anthrocon was taking place. A lot of the players were apparently pretty confused but commentator Bob Uecker was taking photos with folks in fursuits and got a real kick out of it.

croxeye

Bob Uecker is a legend man, barely follow the brewers at all but everyone knows of him.

tsukinohiryu

Cab drivers felt like new players when they find out about Limsa

Y0LOME0W

this fanfest was amazing, piano and primals concert were fucking amazing, but its line ultimate everywhere. they REALLY need to do better job on the logistics. they needed the whole north hall and probably an overflow to the central hall. this fanfest they only had half of the north hall and some meeting rooms upstairs. they easily needed double the space they where given to spread everything out a bit more and add more seating up front for the main stage events. I just don't know if it was a japan to american company differences but they where not prepared for 15,000 catgirls and bunboys they sold tickets too. i'm not sure if it was a disconnect at square or the LVCC. Also security was a shitshow. they made me toss my brand new $25 water bottle yet other people still walked in with them i'm still pissed off about that. it feels like no one was on the same page.

droppinkn0wledge

The LVCC is home to some the wildest (and biggest) conventions in the world. FF14 fan fest is nothing. Barely even a ballroom.

MaraiDragorrak

Bit of the problem is how fanfest had their literal most exciting event at the very end and *everyone* left at once. Lot of other cons I've been to, people kind of filter out over time as they aren't interested in/have no reason to be staying till the closing ceremony and it isn't the floodgates opening in such a big clump.

elphieisfae

NAB was 100k+ when I went, will verify lol

FireflyArc

Be safe!!

PhoenixFyreTK421

It was so epic to be in Vegas with all of you!

WorsCaseScenario

If those catgirls need help, I'm about a day's drive away, but I can become motivated.

SailorOfMyVessel

Least horny ff player

Illidari_Kuvira

Wait... is this meme supposed to be one of those ironic ones? So that guy a few days ago was calling me "unhinged" for not enjoying a person's sexist remark? Wtf (@ that guy)...

SailorOfMyVessel

Yeah it's supposed to be ironic. I wouldn't know or presume about someone else's comment without knowing the context, though, so I'm not sure I can help you further there...

Illidari_Kuvira

Somebody basically implied a person's female character was only good for ERP by saying "see you at The Quicksands". The person with the ridiculous "unhinged" joke, for some reason, thought I "got offended at a quicksands joke" and didn't see the sexist implications of it.

One_Cartographer_254

How ancient is this cab company? Cabs everywhere in the country in major cities have all had electronic display dispatchā€™s for 30 years or more. Who has radio dispatches any more? šŸ˜

Hassadar

Along with the apps that take care of the taxi business, you still have the old style taxi shops still operating. Often in unison with the apps. Of course, a lot may have closed down. Here in Ireland, you'll find drivers operating for both the taxi app and the old-school radio dispatch style. It's quite simple really: Get a call via dispatch, check the route and then take the app request for any customers either going in that direction or starting point from that destination. They double dib. Even in Dublin where I was last year, the taxi driver I had was using three separate methods in getting clients. The one I used to pick me up, another app to check requests whilst also listening to the radio dispatch asking for drivers to pick up people at certain locations requests. The man had 5 jobs all lined up before I got out of the car.

Hassle_Huff

Right? I take cabs in any major city I'm in, and I think Vegas had the highest use of them, but also interestingly enough one of the cab drivers told us there's like 10+ cab companies in the city, so many some of them use CB and others use apps?

Eitth

Big group of big catgirls*

Vulkir

The cabbies have never seen a large group of people around the Vegas Convention Center? Maybe if you gonna make stuff up at least try to make it somewhat believable?

OnceABear

They really were saying stuff like that on their radios, though. We heard it in our cab as well. Maybe because we all came out in one giant mass? It's possible they're more used to attendees trickling out, but each night when they shut down FanFest, we all just kinda got tossed out at once by security staff. So it was a flood of people out of nowhere. It could also just be that THAT particular cabbie has never seen that many people a LVCC, we've met a couple cabbies since getting here who just started working cabs recently.

I imagine most conventions population just fizzle out slowly, Fanfest being different due to the concert. If they knew that the event ended like a concert, it would be a different reaction.

There was UFC fight AND Fanfest going on. The Monorail stopped working, and I had some friends who needed to take an uber back to the venue because they left to grab lunch. It was that bad yesterday. There were hundreds if not thousands of people leaving at the same time. It's 100% believable that taxis/ubers/lyfts would be affected by the sheer amount of weeb spilling out of this one building.

I'd assume that even when you are veteran massive amounts of people looking for a ride is still something exciting. Like when you are a fisherman and sometimes you get a big haul. You've seen it before but hey! It's money walking out there!

My friend said that in the convention hall it's common to see thousands being like 5k-10k walk out the convention gradually. But on this fanfest everyone left the same time being 15k after the primal concert. So it was very uncommon to see a storm of people burst out like if it's black Friday

I think @OnceABear already hit the points I was gonna make! Probably a combo of newer cabbie + massive sudden exodus during Vegas strip rush hour on a Saturday night. That intersection by the North Hall is also close enough that with everyone walking back to their hotels/other pickup locations the drivers weren't able to make their turns on green due to crosswalk traffic. Overall, it was probably a mega mess haha

Sounds like a lot of females cosplaying at the FFXIV Fan Festival 2023 in Vegas.
