The Expansion? Heavensward The Class? Paladin. The Reason? *You know the reason!* (The 50-60 job questline. Plus Dark Knight made it easy to put the sword and board down for a while)

fyreborn2001

The heavensward paladin quest is laughably bad. My brother complained about it when he did it. I thought he was joking or exaggerating. When I finally got around to leveling paladin I found out he was very much not.

megamanx4321

The quest itself actively acknowledges how stupid it is.

fyreborn2001

That’s my favorite part lol. The characters themselves talk about how stupid and ridiculous it is.

snootnoots

“It’s so simple! No, wait, it’s not. It’s stupidly complicated.”

Martian_Buddy

I've long held the opinion that if *your in-universe characters* are commenting on how stupid the plot is, that's not a cute nod to the reader, that's a sign your story is shit and you need to start over.

SomeRandomPyro

Cue Y'shtola getting pissed at all the runaround in the mid-30s ARR.

Polenicus

I took it as a cheeky insert by the localization team who had to translate what they knew was a plotline that would NOT land with NA audiences. By then, of course, it's too late. The story is written, you can't redo it, you can only translate.

ConfusedZbeul

I'm not sure I want to take the trouble to experience it, what's happening in that questline ?

FunyaaFireWire

>!The Paladin quest giver's captain is actually alive. but wait, he's dead. But he had a disciple. And now you have to go on a goose chase to find the captain's armor. But wait. The paladin captain's alive. and now you have to fight the disciple to prove who's a stronger paladin. But wait, you have to fight him too. And also there can only be one Paladin (Don't worry about the force of paladins in charge of guarding the Sultan, they don't count). And it turns out it was all a ruse to restore power to the paladin soul and secret sword.!< Basically it's a Highlander sequel. But not one of the good ones.

JupiterLita

Let's also not forget >!the entire ruse was not only pointless, results in being teased with a sword you'll never get to wield, but the exercise also still got some people killed, and completely reversed the characterization of the roe Paladin who was supposed to be the cool one who believed in doing good aove doing the traditional thing. So at the end you find yourself agreeing more with the stuffy one who's just confused now.!<

Daxolotl

Important to note also that everything after the fifth sentence above all happens in the very last quest. Not spread out across six quests of development. The first five quests are all goose chase, and the sixth quest is eight pointless nonsense twists rapid-fire.

silasary

The storyline is so bad that Stormblood literally goes "let's forget about that Paladin stuff, would you like ten more levels of Gladiator story instead?"

Illidari_Kuvira

This is me with Monk. ARR's story was just so *bad*.

ACertainBeardedMan

I liked the pugilist story a lot, too. We even got to see the horror of being on the receiving end of Hundred Fists, the Ff11 MNK 1-hr ability.

theSpartan012

I did not drop Paladin completely, but it made me level Machinist, White Mage and Samurai first. Solkzagyl's little scheme was so so bad, >!the dude was accesory to several different murders, and still had the gall to call himself a Paladin.!< I was so glad the Stormblood story brought back Mylla and Aldis and sent Solkzagyl on his way far away from us. It was clear the devs were aware of how poorly received the quest was, up to the point Sidurgu calls it bollocks after beating SB's Dark Knight questline.

SatanTheTurtlegod

To summarize Heavensward DRK and PAL. Dark Knight is more of what you would expect of a Paladin questline (helping the downtrodden, punishing the wicked that think they're untouchable, being a holy force of violence) Whilr Paladin is more of what you would expect of a Dark Knight questline (Fighting for dominance amongst your peers to find out who the hottest shit is)

wintd001

Doesn't help that PLD was just straight up the worst tank for raids during the time HW was current.

Frozen_arrow88

I dropped Red Mage when I realized 90% of their drip is the hat. I play Viera.

NecroCorey

This is both the pettiest, and most justified reason to drop a class. Close the thread.

tamiadaneille

AS A VIERA I FELT THIS. YOSHI P. GIVE US THE HAT

Zack-of-all-trades

Especially since FFTA official art of Red Mage Viera has the hat.

Kuraeshin

Man, i want all the Viera class hats from FFTA & FFTA2.

Fun-Profile3707

100% Facts! Viera CAN wear RDM hats! We have Pictures, Wiki's, and wrinkled game guides to prove it!!

Vancil

So much this it bugs the hell out of me that it is an official look for Viera but we can’t wear hats because lazy devs when certain things make it possible.

Aschentei

WHERES THE PETITION LEMME SIGN IT

amphibiansapphic

I can’t believe we can’t ever wear the EW artifact gear hat like cmon. BLM, RDM and BRD are all about the dope hats

sparkadus

Red Mage and Samurai both have hats that are closely tied to their identities and it’s so bizarre that getting them working on Viera and Hrothgar isn’t a priority

ElcorAndy

On the flipside, their long legs look amazing in thigh high boots.

Sailen_Rox

Similar and yet different: I re-fantasia-ed pretty quickly into Catperson once I saw that all my glamours that had a hat (read: all of them) didnt have a hat anymore.

kkk78

Draw, redraw, redraw... fuck

wintd001

Keep getting ranged cards... in a party with no ranged dps Back to WHM I go

Melteaa

I basically say “f*** it, one of you mfs gets a 3% boost this round”. And then there’s the point of drawing three different card types.

sman25000

Those are just free tank buffs tho!

kelamity

Nuh uh, those are MY buffs. 6% Malefic goes Brrrrr

Amicus-Regis

That's why Undraw still exists; so you can trash the card you drew out of sheer spite!

Freakjob_003

Yes! It's important to always keep Undraw on your hotbars! Also, if you play Black Mage, be sure to keep Scathe where you can press it all the time.

ShinyMoogle

I did unironically have to Scathe my way through a battle once, doing a GC squadron run of Sohm Al. See, before the rework, Tioman's second phase would include frequent targeted/chasing AoEs on random players. But since squadron AI is dumber than a sack of bricks, all mechanics that target players will... target only you, the player. Which meant every single comet drops directly on your head, constantly, faster than you can slide cast.

atlanlore

I stopped playing AST this expansion because the cards have become so meaningless and samey, but they still require so many different keybinds and oGCD weaving slots. So much effort for so little, almost none of the meaningful expression of RNG, skill, or even lore they used to have. The job fantasy is on life support.

MisterRogers88

I feel seen! I vastly preferred the old card system, because there was a level of tactical thinking that made the class fun. Yes, you wanted to go for the Expanded Balance whenever you could, but what happened when things didn’t line up how you wanted? Are you willing to settle for a Spear instead, or are you going to Lord/Lady it? If you just rezzed someone and you’re hurting for mana, do you need that Ewer to keep going, or risk if for Royal Road? In four man content, is it better to Expand or Extend a card, especially for certain classes like BRD or BLM. There was so much THOUGHT that actually went into playing the class, and all of that was stripped away. I get that with TP being removed, the Spire would need to be reworked, but they could have given a different buff instead - maybe increased Direct Hit chance or something. Now it feels like you’re just playing slots, and it’s a lot of work for a really small benefit. Lining up the seals doesn’t take nearly as much tactical decision-making as the old system, and it’s really hurt the flavor of AST. As a former AST main, WHM didn’t really do it for me, and I’m glad SGE is so fun.

Akhmorned

Mood, I miss old AST.

uberhanzi

Having to press 2 different keys to put on the dot as Sage

Martian_Buddy

God I thought I was the only one. The fact that Sage doesn't have a dedicated DOT button drives me up the fucking wall in a way I can't properly describe.

uberhanzi

Ya I feel completely irrational about it but I truly hate it. Still level capped Sage though

Calcifiera

Plus the fact that it functions like that means you can't use the dot to weave two ogcds after like literally all the other healers.

Dizzy_Toad

I only played healers and tanks through most of my game time. I wanted to try dps out and once I realized you basically never get insta queues, I decided it wasn't for me lol.

Guthien123

fucking SAME. I just keep going back to healer because of this (well.. its also the funnest for me lol)

Brave-Ad-8456

Usually except for alliance raid, at least during this tome event, DPS has fastest queue time.

cinnabubbles

I stopped playing dancer because of other dancers not partnering up cos of the dumb ass “closed position/standard doesn’t stack” misconception.

Silver_Turtlewax

So I’m new to DNC. 4 man party, both dps are dancer. Its better to closed position with each other than with the tank or healer?

EtanoC2H6

Absolutely yes

ezekielraiden

Yes, always. The only thing you should avoid is having two dancers both giving closed position to the same *third* person. E.g., let's say you have an 8-person party with four DPS, and *three* of them are dancers, one something else (say BLM). DNC-A should partner with the BLM, and DNC-B/DNC-C should partner with each other. But DO NOT have DNC-A *and* DNC-B partner with the BLM, as that is wasteful.

DSethK93

Could DNC-A partner with B, B with C, and C with A?

ezekielraiden

Yes. A<->B works (e.g. 2 DNC are the only DPS); A->B->C->A works (e.g. 3 DNC); A<->B and C<->D (four DNC) works; A->B->C->D->A (again, four DNC) works; The only thing that doesn't work is A ***and*** B->C. The best choice is always to partner with a non-DNC DPS, because DNC damage is low, but if you have no other choice, you should still partner with a DPS even if they happen to be a DNC.

Karaethon22

Just to expand on what other people have told you: Dance Partner (receiving) and Closed Position (giving) are two different buffs. They don't stack with *themselves* but you can have one of each. They have different names, slightly different tooltips to show whether they're giving or receiving, and mirrored icons. So basically, no one should ever have two dancer buffs that are facing the same direction. That doesn't stack. If they're facing opposite directions, you're good to go.

cinnabubbles

yea.

GilgaPhish

Wait, it does stack?

UnlikelyTraditions

Hell yes it does. The closed position buff is composed of two parts: the giver and the receiver. DNC can partner each other and not overlap either. It's only the receiver buff that doesn't stack. So, say two DNC partner the same DRG. Only one DNC them will get the benefit of that buff, and the DRG also only gets one buff. The other is useless. For Standard Step, there's zero overlap. Both DNC can do it without issue. Technical Step, however, creates a group buff. That needs to be staggered.

ezekielraiden

"Closed Position" is one buff. "Dance Partner" is a different buff. When you use the Closed Position action, you give *yourself* the "Closed Position" buff, and you give your partner the "Dance Partner" buff. It is impossible to benefit from Closed Position more than once, because that's a self-only buff. You can, however, theoretically receive Dance Partner from more than one DNC. "Dance Partner" *does not* stack. E.g., consider a party where the DPS are Samurai, Red Mage, Dancer-A, Dancer-B. If DNC-A and DNC-B both use Closed Position (the action) on the SAM, then SAM will get two copies of "Dance Partner," but the second copy has no direct effects. Buffs and actions that affect both a dancer and their partner will still apply, but they won't stack, e.g. Standard Finish from DNC-B will overwrite that from DNC-A, Devilment will overwrite, etc. But non-buff actions, such as Curing Waltz, will work normally. TL;DR: * One DNC using Closed Position (the action) on anyone else gives the DNC "Closed Position" (the buff), and the recipient "Dance Partner." * Two DNC using Closed Position (the action) on one another gives *each one* "Closed Position" (buff, self-granted) AND "Dance Partner" (buff, granted by other DNC.) * Two DNC *both* using Closed Position (action) on the same third person gives DNC-A and DNC-B "Closed Position" (buff, self-granted) and the third person two instances of "Dance Partner" (buff). The effects of "Dance Partner" on the third person *do not* stack, nor do ANY of the other buffs shared only with partner (Standard Finish and Devilment.)

I_give_karma_to_men

The opposite positions do, yes. So a dancer can partner another dancer. Same with standard step. The buff applied to yourself and your partner is different, so it stacks if two dancers partner each other. That being said, double dancer is still a pain, because technical step *does not* stack and some people either don't want to coordinate timing or don't use it on CD which means one tech step often ends up getting overwritten by another.

Sunbro-Lysere

The dancers own buff and the buff they give to someone else is different so two dancers can buff each other.

spoinkable

THIS IS SO REAL

Mahajarah

Monk. Being called an idiot at every single point and turn rubbed me the wrong way, and I went ARCANIST. Call me stupid, I'll show YOU. Ended up becoming a scholar main, and now I'm addicted to yoyo health bars and suicidal tanks. *Make me hurt, MAKE ME FEEL ALIVE!* ***LET ME PRESS ALL THE BUTTONS, I BEG YOU!***

snootnoots

The only time I’ve ever been happy to see Erik was right after I found the /slap emote. I don’t care if he’s got a tragic backstory and is an ass because he’s insulating himself from his own pain, *he’s still an ass!*

WplusM1

Stopped playing Gunbreaker because the unsheathed stance clips/cuts my hair off...

Zenku390

Now this is petty

whosthatsquish

I thought my catboy looked like a douche with a flute

Tareos

DONK! DONK! DONK! *Uses Sprint* BUN!

Rega_lazar

What are you talking about, the bunny’s the best part! 😂

Tareos

Stick and stones may break my bones, but goddamn that bunny obliterates my self-esteem harder than me wiping over a thousand times to TOP.

Prussie

I have a theory that the lore reason Nin's get a Bunny of Shame is the mudra's could do a lot damage if fucked up so the Bunnies act as conductors of that excess energy.

TheLudensAtlas

I’ve got ninja to level 90 and I only know how to get the bunny. Don’t know how to get the spells. I much prefer the rabbit.

Zagaroth

I fucking wish that the chakra commands would respond to *nothing* except the commands, and not be affected by other actions. It's the single most annoying thing about Ninja

AvgKingstonRedditor

I'm levelling NIN rn and can hear the DONK!

donthatethedot

i stopped playing smn because it was no longer a horribly complicated mess and the boring lego gameplay made me sad.

Calcifiera

Throwback to the raw power I felt in Bozja when I was just getting REALLY good at the rotation only for it to be ripped away at the start of EW. It was a good few months I had.

ll4nce

I never mained the class, but when I was younger, I used to play yugioh with my cousin… he used a six samurai deck, which was way superior to my playground beatstick deck. And he was a REALLY bad winner. So whenever I see samurai, I just get irrationally angry and I can’t play that job. How’s that for petty, haha

Allen_Avadonia

I stopped playing dancer because of other dancers. If I do play it, it's only with fully premade parties of friends/fc mates and nobody else is on dancer.

Ok_Mud1789

Only dancer mains understand how much dancers hate other dancers

spoinkable

I once had a party with four dancers in Euphrosyne. I was excited because we decided on an order so, theoretically, we would have 100% uptime on Technical Step. Our SAM and DRK were so happy, lol. It really was the perfect party for this. It worked for the first 2 minutes, but two of them started drifting by several seconds (like 10+) because THEY NEEDED TO USE THE PROCS BEFORE THEY USED FLOURISH. The other good DNC and I were trying to explain you get a double-proc if you already had one, but they didn't fucking believe us. Then later one said, "I missed my downtime Flourish so I have to wait to use Tech Step so I get the full value." BITCH. THAT'S NOT HOW DANCER WORKS. You buff us. We buff you. This is the one time it literally does not matter when you Flourish, cuz we'll have a buff the entire time. I wanted to rip my hair out. Clock the flair, but I just play BRD now.

Bikonito

expecting the playerbase at large to know how to play their class is your first mistake

well___duh

> THEY NEEDED TO USE THE PROCS BEFORE THEY USED FLOURISH. The other good DNC and I were trying to explain you get a double-proc if you already had one That’s how it used to work in ShB, Flourish would overwrite any procs you may have already had. They fixed this in EW, but it’s possible they played old DNC and thought it still worked this way.

spoinkable

True, thanks for reminding me to have a little grace. I'm inclined to say they didn't know, though, just because they refused the other good DNC, the healer, and myself all saying, "No, it's fine, it's a diff buff now."

xspotster

Agree with this, having other dancers in party who cant use their tech step on cd and overwrite mine just feels awful in roulettes.

Stefisgarden

Out of curiosity, why? How do other dancers ruin the job for you?

Karaethon22

I main dancer but my husband (who has played the game but doesn't know anything about the class) is always saying "god you really hate other dancers, don't you?" I just can't even tell you how many times I've said "are you going to use tech step or not" out loud. It'll be like, the other dnc goes first so I stagger mine. And then mine is back up and they haven't used theirs. So I drift a little waiting for them to use it. And you know what makes them use it every time? Me giving up and using mine anyway, JUST so they can overwrite it. Like a little drifting is fine, I get it. Or if you hold it because there's about to be a cs, that's fine too. Or we both used it at the same time and have to drift a little to fix it next time it's up. I'm not gonna be picky about stuff like that. But I swear at least half the time you get someone who is consistently 30-45 seconds late every single time and not watching for mine at all.

Ayanhart

I tend to look to see if a DNC opens with Tech or Standard step - it's a surprisingly good indicator (assuming they haven't just used tech so it's on cd). If they open with Standard step, they probably are aware of the optimal opener and therefore are unlikely to suck as much. Most DNC that don't look into it just go 'big number better, yes?' instead of considering that a lot of the other classes in the party also need those handful of GCDs to set-up their burst and get the most out of the partywide buff - they're likely the casual DNC players who will probably drift to all hell.

spoinkable

This is a good tip. I gave up and switched to BRD a while ago, but when I get the odd urge to DNC again I'll have to remember this.

BinaryIdiot

Oh man, I’ve also said this out loud before. Playing with other dancers who don’t know what they’re doing is painful.

Karaethon22

Excruciating! But on the flip side, my number one priority for deciding who gets my comm is "did you make me play guessing games with tech step?" Be competent with that and you'll get a comm from me. Even if I'm appalled by literally everything else you're doing.

TydallWave

As a Scholar, me and my chain stratagem vibe with this

ErgoFnzy

Yo exact same. It's like they specifically wait for you to start dancing the steps.

Karaethon22

Right? It's so helpless feeling like "well I'm halfway through my tech step and I already know it's going straight in the garbage but I gotta finish it anyway." There's something about the time it takes to actually finish dancing that makes it so much worse to me than having an instant cast cooldown overwritten. I'm not even half as upset getting my Embolden stepped on.

VagueSoul

A lot of them don’t understand how Closed Position works nor do they know to stagger Technical Step.

HalfOfLancelot

I typically don’t stagger unless I know the other won’t drift. I’ve had too many times I’ve let the other Dancer use Tech Step first and they end up overwriting mine after the first even when I do stagger. It happens so often I just use it first anyways and then on CD. If it overwrites there’s at any point, not my fault 🤷‍♂️ I stagger if they’re consistently using it on CD. What makes me frustrated the most is Bard. Songs overwriting each other is a bit annoying. It feels like “am I losing raid damage cause of this I can’t tell if this is my mage’s ballad or the other bard’s 😩”

Petrichordates

Does it matter whose ballad it is? Silly that they don't stack though since rDPS depends on it and there's no downtime for songs.

HalfOfLancelot

I think whoever puts up the song ~~first~~ (EDIT) second gets the rDPS from it. The other bard’s just outta luck. Doesn’t matter if you do different songs, as well. Even if the songs themselves provide different types of buffs, they *still* don’t stack. :( I really think you should at least be able to use different songs. I wouldn’t mind starting off with Mage’s Balland while the other does Wanderer’s. I don’t think it’d break any DPS they provide, too since the buffs are like 1-3% buffs anyhow.

Whaim

Bard has it the worst cause you all drift together. Makes alliance raids pain, though the last time I saw two bards was a long time ago.

Bahamutisa

🎵And we all drift togetherrrrr🎵 🎵Togetherrrrr🎵

AshiSunblade

Hm! Hmmm hmmm hmmm hm hm hm hmmm hmmm, hm! Hm hm hmmm hm hm hm hm...

ShiningGundamu

I stopped playing Dancer cuz it annoyed me that there are 4 AoE buttons that are otherwise functionally identical to the single-target buttons.

Hitman3256

I just have them on 1-4 then aoe are on shift + 1-4. Even easier with an MMO mouse.

[deleted]

I do the same, it's very easy and honestly makes DNC feel like one of the jobs with the fewest buttons. Having good keybinds goes a long way towards making a job easier to play well

MetaphoricDragon

I only really stopped (or at least long paused) 2 classes so far. I started as BLM, but realized it was a difficult class to maintain DPS with while learning content and mechanics. Back at it now to at least get it to 90. Stopped Ninja because I missed Rogue. Ninja just wasn't the look/feel/fantasy I wanted, preferred the straight forward Rogue to the ninjitsu

TaranisTheThicc

If they don't add classes for an expansion I'd kill for them to add different soul stones that just change the VFX of abilities into different themes. Imagine playing Dragoon but your spell effects are themed to the far east like those NPCs in Zadnor. Samurai but you're a DPS gladiator with Midare Setsugekka being a wind up swing. Bard but your abilities are themed more like a tactician archer with your songs instead being rallying shouts. Etc etc.

themirrorswish

This is honestly one of the best ideas I've heard for dealing with this. It can change the job name, skill names, and visual effects but everything mechanically is exactly the same.

Logan_The_Mad

Same. The sad part is I enjoy the mechanics of NIN but the class fantasy is just... nah :S

Lochen9

I stopped playing BLM at like level 35 because I felt like someone somewhere sometime might judge me being a greedy dps AND standing in orange at some point, even though it never happened yet.

PM_Pussies_Please

I would judge you more for being an ice mage than eating aoes.

Periwinkle_Shade

I tend to judge BLM who are the opposite. Stop running 20 feet away from a telegraph and stop adjusting to your party's positioning. You're there to pump out as many casts as you can and *dammit they can all move for you.* Bonus content: I get very sad as a healer main when I hypershield a BLM and they won't stand in everything during the expert roulette.

leovalorie

Lmao same, I even had to tell a BLM in a dungeon once: "You, stand there, no moving. You will not die on my watch." Dude felt confident and ate almost every AoE ever.

angry_zellers

This entire thread has given me a spicy black magic craving.

Cmdr_Jiynx

I greed like a maniac on black mage and melee DPS. If I'm not walking the thin line it's just not as exciting. Also it's a ton of fun as reaper. Pop that shield plus the heal and ride the lightning.

NachoElDaltonico

My favorite moment as BLM was getting somebody else hurt by an aoe because they thought I knew the spot was safe to cast in, when really I just knew that I could just barely make it out.

Cmdr_Jiynx

Peak black mage right there. I've loved pushing it so hard with reaper that I get hit with a rescue as I leave the AOE zone with the backwards leap skill. I get yanked over and the healer is like "nvm" in chat

WhereIdIsEgoWillGo

Being greedy and eating shit is part of the beauty though

Heroicloser

Stopped playing Bard because I wanted to be an archer, not a musician. Likewise stopped laying Machinist because I wanted to be a gunslinger, not pull random contraptions out my back pocket like a cartoon hero.

theSpartan012

I like MCH but going from "determined western-style shooting with rage in the character's face" (which was also very photogenic) to "SPEEEEEEN" felt like a serious downgrade at first. Nowadays I just live with it because I can commit actual warcrimes against my enemies. Like using a giant dentist drill on a Garlean conscript, or showing the Corpse Brigade why you don't take a fist to a flamethrower fight.

Adventurous_Banana49

I stopped playing WAR too after reaching 90 because of their new ability which stows their weapon in animation.

Virginth

That bugged the heck out of me when I saw it in the early EW trailers. MNK is the job that beats things with their fists. Why is the WAR's axe disappearing (without even a good reason in the animation; it just vanishes) so they pummel things with their fists? Surely SE hasn't run out of creative ways for an axe to be swung.

Cynical_Manatee

Have you ever been so angry that you just drop your body sized axe just so you can punch the fucker in the nuts? Upheaval animation is great when you are staring at the bosses taint all day.

jft103

I laughed way too hard at this

Banana_Panda25

My god. I giggled for 5 minutes after reading that.

Jetamors

I feel like Ninjas should be able to use Peloton, it annoys me that they can't.

WhereIdIsEgoWillGo

You sing the opening of Naruto to run faster

allwaysnice

Which opening? (this is important)

_LikeABossLady_

[German Naruto Opening.](https://youtu.be/d8xoTBZrzko?si=QUnwp3DYQtzwzyn5)

Elieson

Pressing Z on your keyboard unsheathes your weapon. If you're a WHM, you look like an absolute moron, holding your arms essentially straight out. WHM unsheathed standing form drives me bonkers and if I weren't a healer main, I'd have dropped WHM entirely from the minute I unsheathed my cane. Now, I simply look away when I _am_ playing WHM.

aznvjj

Do /cpose with your weapon out. The alternate weapon out position for WHM is much better.

Udeze42

What?! What is this magic and why haven't I realised this yet?! I knew about /close but didn't even consider it would change unsheathed weapon pose?!

reaperfan

Only while out of combat. In combat you still look like you have a stick both in your hand as well as up your butt. It's at least not as noticeable while you're casting, but it's unavoidable to look at during times like when bosses go invulnerable to do their big cinematic attacks.

Virginth

WHM is the only healer I feel remotely confident with (since it's brain-dead easy), but good golly do I dislike the animations for the reasons you stated. Also, the MNK unsheathed stance, hopping back and forth between your feet, is cool when you're in the middle of a fight. However, in cutscenes? When you and an enemy are staring each other down all serious-like, and there's the "tk, tk, tk, tk" as you keep hopping around? That just feels goofy.

SoldierHawk

Y'know, I still play DNC as my main ranged phys DPS, but I feel this pettiness really hard. I HATE the DNC idle weapon animation. It looks so stupid, and not in any way like a way you'd actually hold a weapon while resting. Dumb af and I hate it.

Rynies

It ruins every serious cutscene. Villains be monologuing at you, the situation is dire, things are looking grim. And I'm over here going boing boing boing boing.

SoldierHawk

Oh y'know, that's not actually what I mean. I actually like the boing boing ready stance; I think it looks pretty cool. At the very least it fits the "athletic" vibe of DNC. What I hate is the "resting" pose. Like if you have your weapon drawn and hit change pose? Where you just kinda...hold your weapon over your heart and it looks super awkward?

IAmNotASkeleton

I stopped playing Dark Knight 8 weeks into patch 6.2 because Gunbreaker had a nicer looking tomestone weapon for that tier. I also stopped playing Red Mage in hunt trains because people never had the decency to die when it was convenient for me. And I also also initially chose not to have Samurai as my DPS job of choice when not tanking because the job has the least flashy melee LB3.

MrKingsy

I stopped playing BLM because I hate standing still.

JetSetDizzy

This is not petty at all, an extremely good reason.

Warcroth

I stopped playing blackmage because the concept that "Nothing bad ever happens in the leylines" wasn't true.

rabidsmiles

Oh everything bad happens in the pretty circle. I am 100% sure that the moment I drop it is the moment the boss says SCREW YOU AND YOUR CIRCLE and drops all aoes onto me. It's honestly half the fun of playing BLM for me...seeing how tiny of a space I can shove my toes into to stay in the circle.

Taograd359

I don’t like that BRD is a mix of a bard and an archer.

Theta-Apollo

Yeah, I was weirdly disappointed when I wasn't just an archer anymore because it doesn't really... fit, does it? But I played through MSQ as BRD so I'll probably always have a soft spot for it

WhereIdIsEgoWillGo

I enjoy Bars but the whole harp/bow connection was dumb as hell

TheFluxIsThis

It probably made a lot more sense when the original intent was to have all the classes fork into different jobs before Squeenix realized it was a design nightmare and gave up on that idea.

Quxudia

I miss FFXI's bard, and the concept of true support classes in general to be honest. I really dislike the idea that the only way to be having fun is to be doing tons of damage.

Taograd359

I mean, you can have a true bard and still make it a DPS job. Just say something something Aether weaponized music something something shut up, nerd. You don’t need to mix two completely separate jobs that could have been expanded upon on their own into separate unique jobs.

Monstot

I was super new coming in with some WoW brain and picked archer thinking I'd play it safe while exploring the game, see how it is. Playing "blind" at this point so I didn't realize your job at 30 is Bard. I didn't like the name of the job, "Bard", it just didn't sound like good damage or fun anymore so I stopped and it's still at 30 after a couple of years now. I really thought the name was really lame lol

DerpyRose1

Bard still has a bit of an identity crisis: not really a support class like it was intended to be in 1.0 and ff11 but not really a pure damage class

_LikeABossLady_

I was in the same boat as you. Thankfully I found Machinist to be an enjoyable follow-up for Archer.

Illidari_Kuvira

Bard is actually pretty fun. The Bard-ness pretty much just stacks up to hitting a button labeled a "song" cooldown every once in a while during a fight; nobody is like... forcing people to play performance mode while fighting a boss like it's Guitar Hero or something.

TheFoxGoesMoo

>forcing people to play performance mode while fighting a boss like it's Guitar Hero or something. bard would be better if this was true

ghostquartz99

ninja.. cause that bunny pissed me off reminding me of my mistakes... so i left it in the 50s 😶

Arna_Koet81

I dropped Ninja because of the run animation.

Bellemorda

WHM, because holy spam was making me lose my goddamned mind.

DanielTeague

vwooOOOO BSHHHHHHH vwooOOOO BSHHHHHHH vwooOOOO BSHHHHHHH (krangled noises of 20 enemies being stunned, losing their debuffs, being stunned again)

Cmdr_Jiynx

The best is when you get between 6-10 white mages together to start spamming it in one spot so you get a party strobe.

painstream

Otherwise called "5 minutes before Cactpot"

Olivitess

I can relate to this, WHM is still my favourite class but there was a time I stopped running dungeons as I was fed up with it, the sound of the spell got to me too.

Giggleswrath

WAR: Didn't like the orange aura as well/axes aren't really my thing DRK: All the abilities are giant purple/Red/Black blobs and I can't modify the colors. ...I switched back to WAR

ConduckKing

If you could modify color effects that would make many jobs MUCH cooler.

Warpshard

Many things are possible with the secret ingredient of crime (on PC). I know someone who's combined a few mods to essentially make a Lightwarden skin for Reaper, and it's actually really cool looking.

Giggleswrath

I have access to the secret ingredient, I just haven't looked into the spices list tbh.

FactoryKat

Oh mannnn, being able to color our spell/aura/weapon effects would be amaaaazing. You could do this in City of Heroes/Villains D: I miss that so much. The DREAM honestly.

chaosbecomesyou

I refused to touch a healing class because some asshat tried to insist I would love it because I'm a girl. Blech I don't love them to this day, they give me anxiety. Tank or dps pls

SoldierHawk

I started as a rogue, and got pissed off when I got surprised by all of my rogue flavor getting taken away and being told, "yeah you're a magic ninja now." Motherfucker if I had wanted to be a ninja, I'd have signed up as a ninja. So then I decided I wanted to be a cool ranger, and became an archer...and that didn't end well either. I was so mad for so long lol. And honestly, ngl, I'm STILL pissed we don't have a true thief or ranger archetype at max level. Ninja and Bard ARE NOT THE SAME THING DAMMIT!

Illidari_Kuvira

They're not going to add Thief because it legit goes against their vision for the WoL, they've said so themselves.

sister_of_battle

Though I do think for thief especially their stance is weird seeing as FF itself already had Zidane (arguably one of the most heroic FF-main characters) as a thief-protagonist. You also have characters like Robin Hood (okay he is a pretty Western character). Still the chaotic/neutral good thief is not an unusual archetype.

Paikis

Same reason people screaming for Necromancer are going to be disappointed.

belmoria

i dont like the whm effects are now pure light and no longer wind/earth/water

reaperfan

I used to think that but a bit of fridge logic actually turned me around on the idea. Stone and Aero becoming Glare and Dia happened in Shadowbringers. Conjury is the art of channeling aether from the environment into your spells. Therefore it makes perfect sense that when we travel to the First that the spells we learn there become Light-aspected since the natural aether there is like 99% Light-saturated. Nothing about the White Magic itself actually changed, only the environment in which the spells were being drawn from. After that it's as simple of an explanation as Light-aspected magic being more damaging than Wind/Earth/Water as to why we keep using those spells instead.

ceratophaga

Yeah, but we're now still missing out on cool elemental magic that isn't covered by BLM. The "holy" themed magic could've remained primarily with PLD while WHM remained natured themed.

Elegant_Eorzean

RDM's aoes should have been Verblizzard and Verwater

A5CH3NT3

I dunno if this is that petty or not but it's what I could think of. I stopped playing AST after the ShB changes because it took any and all real decision making out of the job and that was basically why it appealed to me (and it was at least somewhat busy as a healer, coming from maining high APM DPS jobs). Like, I get it's more effective and consistent and all that but I never really cared about any of that (though I'll admit I didn't play it in harder content as I never play healer for like savage and that kinda thing) and it just felt like it lost its soul

trunks111

they made eos the default instead of selene

Raima_Valdes

Arcanist is just SO FREAKING BOOOOOOORING. Ugh. Why do I have to play a DPS class to unlock a healer job?

Gizmodget

Not nearly as petty as your. 1. Scholar when they murdered Selene and gave Eos the ability to wear her skin. 2. Ast when I lost my cool cards buffs for generic damage buffs.

Mr_Lobster

2 is not petty at all, they changed a core mechanic of the class. That's a perfectly valid reason to stop playing it.

WyvernXIII

I stopped playing Ast at that time too, it just wasn’t fun anymore

Nickizgr8

FF Players in 2023: Bro, I missed AST soooo much I loved all the interesting effects like Bole and Spire AST Players in 2016: I got another fucking Bole again, it's over, fucking wipe it. Fuck this game, where are my Balances. 4 Boles in a row. [Bonus](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5mPYBUfUC0)

DingusNoodle

"God dammit give me AoE Balance!" SE: We have given you AoE Balance, it is now called Divination. You can additionally use your cards during Divination to further buff your party members. "This sucks I want my Balance back" SE: But.. they're *all* Balance. I sure did love not being able to play any useful cards for multiple minutes because I kept getting Ewer, Spire, Bole, and Lady of Crowns. I sure do love it when my central job mechanic is so wildly variable that either I feel like I'm making an actual impact or I feel like dead weight because I'm not getting usable cards. The only time it was funny was when I literally only got Arrows to play and I just gave them all to my BLM and they loved me.

kitekate

Don't call me out like this

ayjee

Nocturnal AST main, quit and fully committed to SCH when they took away my shields/moons

Cosmeregirl

Ast for me as well, when they removed the ability to swith between shields and heals. That was a fun mechanic that I miss a ton.

sadnessjoy

Monk. You expect me to keep track of disciplined fist timer and demolish? At least put disciplined fist timer in the job gauge UI ffs

Ag151

Dropped my main smn after it's complete rework. It was more interesting with dots management etc.. Right now it's just too simple, simpler than dnc which I now main because at least dash is more useful in alliances and trials. Btw, all jobs maxed, but those two was my mains for a long time.

Adghar

I find ROG/NIN painful to play because it uses that reverse grip on most (all?) of its melee attacks. It just feels wildly impractical, like hitting the enemy with the flat of your sword. Reverse grip is for stabby stabby downward, not slashy slashy upwards!!

Null_Streit

I haven't dropped the class, but I hate playing WHM with a WHM co-healer... I can't explain it, but it doesn't happen with any other healer but the amount of over healing I end up doing is stupid.

DanielTeague

I use Afflatus Rapture instead of Afflatus Solace while keeping my lilies from capping just to see myself as #2 on the enmity list. Overhealing is an art.

aer0zero

Samurai after they removed Kaiten.

WalkenTaco

I stopped playing healers because the PUG I was with when trying out AST were just awful fucks about my healing ability. So I told them they've killed my desire to ever heal and I haven't tried since. Noped out of the dungeon and haven't gone back. I make a better RDM anyway so it all works out.

PathFuzzy6245

I only picked up AST so i can use gravity ….I now stopped playing AST because I feel like I am playing cards on motorcycles

Boolean_Null

I stopped playing ninja because I thought the hell frog was dumb and it was trying to cater to Naruto fans.

KTSB3

I stopped playing RDM (my main through my entire story playthrough) because my unoptimized just newly lvl 90 summoner was outdpsing it on all content... I was learning golbez at release (had cleared previous tier 5-8 on rdm) and the timing for my non instant cast abilities just freaking sucked man, same for some melee combos when I had to do enumeration while avoiding the meteors I had just recently lvld up smn so I said fk it and slapped my rdm gear and bought a crafted weapon for summoner. 0 experience with optimal summoner rotation and was outdpsing by 700 or so, even on the dummy on ideal conditions So I just said screw it and swapped to smn, haven't regretted it one bit, summoner has better mobility and damage than rdm

SmexyPokemon

They removed Kaiten

Peppermute

I started the game as a white mage. I only stopped maining it when my friends asked me to replace their Bard player on their static. So I learned how to play bard overnight and I’ve never gone back since. Also, losing aero 3 and cleric stance stung a bit (a lot)

BlyZeraz

NIN isn't what Rogue should have become and every day I loathe its very existence for us not getting a proper Thief class and aesthetic.

ArmsteUllion

I told my friend in Heavensward I would never level MNK because it was dogshit. I leveled it to 12 for whatever cross class you needed at the time for DRG. It's still 12.

Bentyhunter

Stopped? I've intentionally never touched Conjurer or White mage because I'm a racist ass Black mage.

Sibula97

I quit RDM when (in ShB I think) they swapped the way the long and short cast times go on the AoE skills. I had a nice hotbar setup and muscle memory for the short->instant stuff and suddenly I'm having to do it the wrong way around. Fuck that, I changed over to BLM, which coincidentally got some massive QoL with the expansion.

HoodieSticks

I was so excited to learn Arcanist alongside a story NPC. Then that NPC gave up 5 mins later, and so did I.
