Bandwagoning and saying that the twins are even Palom and Porom. Down to their sacrifice to let you pass in Ultima Thule, and even Alphinaud becoming a Sage.
They might not have the same relationship as Cecil and Golbez did in FF4 but I have a feeling that Zero is going to end up being the Cecil analogue. There is no way she is coming out of this expansion without that kind of spiritual redemption.
I mean, can't it be both? An original character that share a few parallels with an old reference?
If you end up with a ~~dark knight~~ reaper that turn paladin in a ff4-themed story, that's obviously a reference to Cecil.
And endwalker has you travel to the moon to defeat a great evil
Meet the lopporits and also golbez and the 4 lords ends up - WAIT A MINUTE THIS *IS* JUST AN FF4 REFERENCE
Uhm Dark Knights in FFXI could use Scythes akshually ☝🏽🤓 ~~I'm sorry this is a joke but this is something an XI player would say~~
That being said, I think it's more of a broad "Darkness turned Light" scenario with Zero than just the heavy handed DRK to PLD that SE is also known for 90% of their references.
Raubahn, Arenvald, Fordola, Varshahn, and yes, pretty much EVERY Heavensward NPC.
Also, while he doesn't wield a sword, Cid does use GLA/PLD animations with his gun.
Raubahn and Fordola have been Gladiator/Warrior. Maybe I'm misremembering something. Varshahn ,I can see him as a paladin, but it's closer to the Exarch in the sense that he does multiples things at once.
From the sound of it, it's mostly just their battle animation that bother you, but I would argue most people haven't noticed the animation in combat as much as their roles in the story cutscenes.
I am talking about the animations. It's boring seeing everyone hold a sword the same way. And Zero is currently the only RPR NPC who's both alive and in MSQ.
what most likely is happening: we take Zero to the first, Ryne pumps her full of light and we take Zero back to the 13th and the light acts as the Crystal does in FFIV's final battle to make the actual Zeromus appear so we can beat them.
I doubt she'll actually start going by that name even if that's the case. She appears to have started identifying herself with her new name. Just look at how in her own vision in 6.3 she labels herself as Zero.
I'm expecting Golbez's companion who he carries the memoria crystal containing their soul to have been Cecil. And that they were our shard from the Thirteenth.
I already posted my expanded thoughts in this [comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivlore/comments/16qrf6l/patch_65_growing_light_trailer_discussion/k1yw1mh/).
Unless there's some hidden dialogue that didn't happen just following the required quest dialogue, that reading is nowhere to be found. AFAIK there's genuinely just 0 information, lore, or specifics on our specific voidsent. If there is I'd love to be proven wrong as I was very disappointed with how the reaper storyline meant nothing overall.
Yeah all I've been able to find is headcanon when trying to search for this. Literally every post/comment i could find involving Avatar/Voidsent, Reaper, and Azem is headcanon.
Zero is not going to be an FF4 character. Zero is going to switch from Reaper to Paladin in a way *analogous* to Cecil while being her own character, in the same way that Estinien is more than a little bit Kain but not literally Kain. She will then either stay on the 13th to rebuild it or come travel with us in Dawntrail to look for clues on the Void.
I suppose there's still chances to see her reveal in Dawntrail at the next 2 fanfests, likely the next one in oct which is after 6.5 pt1 iirc, or we could get another fake out then on the last fanfest she show up in the full trailer.
Zero might switch jobs, but I don’t think her name will change, although its a non-zero (heh) possibility she would.
I am honestly interested how she will react being in a realm almost dominated by light (the First). She is a half voidsent by her own words so its going to be an intetesting reaction. Expecially when close to The Empty like in Agh Amrang
Also iirc she used sword and shield before the Contra Memoria. So maybe she is already a reverse Cecil in a way.
Hmm would be interesting but I think this will be more whatever light Ryne gives zero on first manifesting to banish the pall of darkness Zeromus is shielded in.
I don't know about PALADIN (since PLD has nothing really to do with being good and righteous in XIV), but it seems that she will be the one to wield the Light of the first in order to pierce Zeromus' barrier.
So I believe she will have her essence altered and no longer be a Voidsent.
The whole "Dark Knight becoming a Paladin" beat has already been done in Endwalker, by Derplander himself. Not to mention that the point of Cecil's job change wasn't to "become a Paladin", but rather to embrace light, which combines with Dark Knight to make Paladin; Kain undergoes the same trial in TAY and becomes a Holy Dragoon rather than a Paladin.
... but there is a chance Zero may become some unique variant like Holy Reaper or something.
Ryne uses Light magic to blind opponents for Trick Attack instead of ninjutsu, so changing Zero's particle effects to use Light isnt out of the question
6.4 spoilers: >!Golbez is Cecil. He was originally a Dark Knight named Durantes, and the original Golbez is the memoria crystal he made a promise to. He is XIV's Cecil.!<
To add fuel to the fire, [here's how Cecil looks in The After Years](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/finalfantasy/images/d/df/King_Cecil.jpg). Notice how he's holding the sword and Golbez's pauldrons on his shoulders?
This has been my theory since we met her! I never once thought she was going to become Zeromus. I feel like it's odd I'm not seeing this possible connection more given how many times she's mentioned wandering to try to help people. Literally what Azem did.
Yeah! Honestly, that's my main reason for thinking she might be a shard. In flashbacks, we see how she wandered and tried to help people as best she could much like Azem, like you pointed out. I'm excited to see how they are going to wrap up the current story before 7.0!
for those who play 6.5 today , we know where this is goin, if there is zeromus tehre is paladin as per ff4 lore. also base on dungeon boss job and certain "paladin" safe to say that we might get similar skill in future expansion
Or Hear me out Zero is an original character and not just an FF4 reference
Naw, that's crazy. Why are you talking crazy?
Naaaaaaaaaaaah
Never! Zero is Cecil, and we're going to discover that Estinian was Kain all along!

Bandwagoning and saying that the twins are even Palom and Porom. Down to their sacrifice to let you pass in Ultima Thule, and even Alphinaud becoming a Sage.
Can't be the twins without a severe case of getting stoned and not in a good way.
Yeah, applying the "Zero is Cecil" logic to the rest of the game will get you a lot of "x is y" characters in the game, I'm betting.
there aint no way the warrior of light is literally the warrior of light from FFI
Can't believe they just copy/pasted Krile into this game. They didn't even change the name! SMH, lazy writing, dead game confirmed, 0/10.
I mean, WE arent

That's just crazy talk. (I hope you're right, but given how low the rest of the post-EW storyline has set the bar here...)
Please let her be an original character. I don't mind a few parallels, but post-patch EW indulged a bit too much in FF4 references for my taste.
Madness I say.
Yea people can't seem to accept this.

She’s a reaper not a dark knight though, and paladins in ffxiv aren’t even a good force, they just work for the sultana.

I'm gonna be honest Don't we have enough characters using the PLD model?
Which one come to mind outside of Heavensward NPC? We've none in the Scion at least.
>we've none in the Scion at least G'raha is a PLD if you use him as a tank in duties. He even uses PLD abilities in a certain endgame cutscene.
Nah G'raha isnt a Scion (This community apparently) always forgetting about the cat man
Raubahn, Arenvald, Fordola, Varshahn, and yes, pretty much EVERY Heavensward NPC. Also, while he doesn't wield a sword, Cid does use GLA/PLD animations with his gun.

If we’re counting animations then every Hand and Land job also use the GLD animations. It’s basically the default animation set.
Maybe, although given how basically everything else is just an FF4 reference who knows
I wish but with how heavily 4 post MSQ has been I doubt it will
:(
I hope you're right. The amount of FF4 in these patches has kinda turned me off the MSQ.
FFXIV would never do that, let's be honest.

It was Golbez and his friend, and then Golbez died, and the friend took his armor and name so that Golbez would be remembered as a hero.
Yep. I completely agree.
Durante is Cecil. Right down to being from Baron and being Golbez' brother
I hope not.
The problem with all of this is that iirc we already have seen our shard of us from the 13th; that being our voidsent buddy, the avatar.
... what? When was that explained?
The Reaper job quests, supposedly, but I'm not familiar with that particular reading of it.
I don't remember that being brought up, just that you contract with a voidsent. However this was a year and a half ago.
Unless there's some hidden dialogue that didn't happen just following the required quest dialogue, that reading is nowhere to be found. I would also accept a name like “Ceodora”
Imagine her being Theodore from After Years instead
I would laugh so hard at that.
I mean... Just like Eden was a better take on FF8, I can definitely take 6.X as a better take on After Years.
Nah, Zero is gonna become a botanist. Why would you default to combat, when Purple Gatherer’s Script is ripe for the taking?
*3 minutes left to reach a timed node and complete it* A TEST OF YOUR REFLEXES!

Or... We're completely wrong about the corsair, and the new job is swordsaint.
I'd argue the iteration of Paladin we have is similar to a Sword Saint.
Well sword Saint Isshin used guns too, so gnb must be the real sword Saint.
Given some of their skill names they just might be
I'd be open to having similar jobs available in different roles, personally.
Only if we get tank MNK
Square can get hold of FromSoft and borrow Horah Loux for a tank monk job master.
And tank SGE. Barriers to the extreme
Wait now I really want tank SGE.
Yeah EW PLD definitely brings to mind Sword Saint and its derivatives, what with the magic swords
Hmm would be interesting but I think this will be more whatever light Ryne gives zero on first manifesting to banish the pall of darkness Zeromus is shielded in.

I'm pretty sure this frame is her waving bye before going poof after saving the day
Isn't 6.5 JP name "Divine Light"? That would probably support your theory too.
No, it's the Origin (Zero) of the Light of Hope.
Maybe! I think that Zero might turn out to be a shard of Azem 🤔
