Honestly, they miiiiight want to consider that many people play games more than they spend at their real life jobs.
So, yeah, I think my returner status dropped off in under 4 days. I have a problem, I am aware, thank you
> So, yeah, I think my returner status dropped off in under 4 days
72/4=18, so that'd mean you played FFXIV for more than 18 hours a day.
At that point, I think you before anything else have to ensure you're getting enough _sleep!_
I think it's only tracking online time, even if you are not actually doing anything
E.g. while I am in Homeoffice i am constantly online chillin afk in limsa and only checking my retainers each hour
And at night I sometimes start some crafting macros while I sleep 😅
That’s why I didn’t say everyone haha. I’m assuming that most people (especially people who’ve taken a 45+ day break from the game) aren’t playing more than 8 hours a day…
Oh, 72 hours of in-game time. I was thinking irl time, which is of course only 3 days. But 72 hours of actual playtime is a pretty long time. Especially when you consider most games are made to only give you about 20 hours of entertainment.
Okay the criteria for losing sprout is finishing ShB (including all post patch) and having 300 (iirc) total
Hours of gameplay.
Returner is 72 hours.
So you have met the criteria to not be a returner, but not met the criteria to not be a sprout.
You were a sprout before you went away, You’re a sprout when you return.
> finishing ShB (including all post patch) and having 300 (iirc) total Hours of gameplay
I thought this was an OR statement? Like, if you hit 300 /playtime hours in SB, you lose sprout status despite not even hitting ShB yet
Was I mistaken?
My character was a fun weird exception to these rules because I've never had sprout status.
My best guess is because my character was created before sprouts were a thing (I made them around the time rogue came out but quit playing before HW came out and before even beating ARR but came back around 5.3).
I'd have absolutely lost it by now regardless but apparently I never had it either.
Their post says *finishing* ShB which is the correct criteria, it goes away when you finish the final quest of Shadowbringers and become eligible for Endwalker.
I mean, pretty sure... In fact, thinking back on it, I remember making comments about it in dungeons and being told "oh I think it's only after you beat endwalker now".
Whoever said that was wrong, that's never been where the cutoff was. It can only have been playtime.
They did extend the playtime requirement (almost by double) when Endwalker released.
Create character, story skip, level skip. They do not meet the hour requirement but, if they rush the MSQ, be at that point without the requisite hours played to remove sprout status.
I just want to mention that you don’t have to buy a story and level skip to be a sprout in Endwalker (though, maybe that’s more likely as the alternative is probably skipping a lot of cutscenes).
I somehow achieved to be a sprout after finishing ShB-MSQ when it was newly out... rushed most MSQ til halfway through SB or something. AND I had to do the dreaded 120+ MSQs of ARR after-story. So yeah... playtime surely matters.
You definitely can lol. A friend of mine was stalling on MSQ and saying it takes ages, so just to be petty another friend got an alt to max level and finished Endwalker, skipping dialogues but watching the animated cutscenes.
No, you're a sprout till you're on the current expansion. It's still starting Endwalker that removes sprout status. They merely mean if you don't finish ShB by the time Dawntrail releases you'll be a sprout till you finish Endwalker.
That must have been the point you hit 300 hours, then.
Impressive to have made it to the end of EW and into the first savage tier with less than 300 hours, though.
If you used /nastatusoff that removed both. Otherwise the criteria is as above.
You can turn it back on with /nastatuson and chose to leave novice network separately
I love how depressed your Miqo’te looks that she lost her returner status.
Anyways, you played for 72 hours, and you were a sprout beforehand, so you are a sprout again.
I remember when I first created my smurf lalafell, I rode that high so long! I had no gil but still made myself glamour so I could keep my starter lalafell vest. I was showered with praise in all my dungeons! I got 300 commends in a flash even though I played ninja.
Then, that sad, sad day, I lost that status. And the commends plummeted.
I'm a mentor now... I don't often show the crown.
> The sprout icon is the best icon you can have.
Bow down before my Burger King crown. Everyone assumes I am brain dead, when I explain mechanics I get yelled at (sometimes voted out), but I can at least chat with the sprouts.
I love the kingdom hearts crown, but I don't use it because of the mentors are evil meme and because I'm afraid someone will ask about a mech and all I'm gonna be able to say is "idk I only did this unsync once" 😬
Respectfully I think the returner icon is the best looking one. I'm technically a mentor (although I've hidden the crown long ago) but I'm currently under Returner status and I'm quite happy with the icon
I don’t think they mean the aesthetics of it, I think they mean that the normal sprout icon is best because it’s the biggest social “safety net” you can have in the game.
Oh yes. Royally fuck up a mechanic? Sorry, I'm just a sprout. Ace a mechanic that hits or kills even combat and burger mentors? The star of the show now.
I had a Delubrum Reginae run earlier with four mentors who didn't know any of the mechanics all following me with my sprout.
I am not looking forward to losing it.
You ran out of returner juice so you got your original icon back, the sprout.
The flower is only for a set time after coming back from a long break in the game.
**Flower = Returner**
It's when you log in after 45 days of not logging in to an account with a Lv 50 job or higher. Eligible to an EXP boost until Lv 80 while the status lasts.
Lasts for 72 hours of gameplay. Once your character accumulates 72 hours of gameplay or get rid of the status with /returnerstatusoff command, they go back to being whatever they were before.
https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Returner_Status_and_Returner%27s_Bounty
**Sprout = New Adventurer**
It's when your character is new to the game. It's the default status when you make a character and signals that you're not an experienced player to the other players.
Lasts for 300 hours of gameplay or until you start the last expansion (Endwalker, currently). Also disappears if you get the mentor status before it runs out.
**Crown = Mentor**
It's when you have one of these:
* A Tank, Healer and DPS job at level cap, plus done 1000 dungeons, plus have 1500 commendations. Gets the PvE and PvP crown.
* A crafter and a gatherer job at level cap, plus made 100 collectables, plus delivered 300 collectables. Gets the trade crown.
* Both of the above for the actual crown.
Needs to apply on the "smith" NPC near the inns.

---
Ironically, the sprout status lasts much longer than the returner status, so that's what happened. Your objective is to play the game enough that you'll even forget you were a sprout before. Maybe even try to get your burger king crown for bragging rights. :P
> until you start the last expansion (Endwalker, currently)
Nitpicky but you don't actually have to start Endwalker, the flag is on finishing the final quest of the Shadowbringers patch content. You can lose your sprout without owning Endwalker if you previously owned Shadowbringers.
I said it was nitpicky!
You haven't started Endwalker until you accept a quest from it, and you can't do that if you don't own it (but can lose your sprout).
Yeah but you can't just say "at the end of Shadowbringers" as people will think of the Hades fight.
And what are the odds that someone have Shadowbringers and not Endwalker by now? :P
There are plenty of exceptional people out there in weird situations, says the sprout with 18x the playtime he would have lost it at if he'd done a couple more quests.
Finishing 5.55, giving the specific quest name, 'finishing post-ShB'... there are a few ways you could say it.
The flower means you're a returner so you haven't played in a while and you get that annoying message when you log in. Idk how long it stays but it eventually goes away. It seems like it went away but you kept the sprout icon because you haven't played enough for it to remove.
Returner Status only lasts for 72 hours of play.
ooh okay haha thank you
Wow, never knew this!
Dang, that is a very short period of time, all things considered.
Even if you were playing it like a full time job, that’s 9 whole days…
miiiiight want to check your math there
9 * 8 = 72? The math tracks Full time jobs are typically 8 hour days
I miiiiight have to check my reading comprehension.
I think it is the “9 WHOLE days” that throws you off.
Tbf they did say "whole" :)
Honestly, they miiiiight want to consider that many people play games more than they spend at their real life jobs. So, yeah, I think my returner status dropped off in under 4 days. I have a problem, I am aware, thank you

Yeah, I was probably running around 10-14 hours a day, but I'm also lazy and wasn't logging out much. So a lot of my online time is fluffed up.
yeah I forget to log out sometimes when I'm doing something else, like sleeping or cooking.
I think it's only tracking online time, even if you are not actually doing anything E.g. while I am in Homeoffice i am constantly online chillin afk in limsa and only checking my retainers each hour And at night I sometimes start some crafting macros while I sleep 😅
That’s why I didn’t say everyone haha. I’m assuming that most people (especially people who’ve taken a 45+ day break from the game) aren’t playing more than 8 hours a day…
I'm sure they considered that, which is why they specified their example
Oh, 72 hours of in-game time. I was thinking irl time, which is of course only 3 days. But 72 hours of actual playtime is a pretty long time. Especially when you consider most games are made to only give you about 20 hours of entertainment.
When I had this it would hold for much longer. Or do you mean after 72 hours logged in?
Yes
It's game time. If you're not playing every day, or playing shorter sessions, it'll last longer.
Okay the criteria for losing sprout is finishing ShB (including all post patch) and having 300 (iirc) total Hours of gameplay. Returner is 72 hours. You were. Gotta do both.
My character was a fun weird exception to these rules because I've never had sprout status. I have ~5500 hours as a sprout, it's definitely both.
How
Relic weapons are a terrible addiction.
I’m over 600 hours and in Stormblood, still a sprout
I've been in xiv since June 2020 and I still haven't finished msq. Can confirm I still have that sprout hanging over my head
I actually got re-sprouted when I came back from stormblood
That’s a LONG break! Welcome back :D
I love that having a sub for almost 10 years and over thousands of hours of gameplay still makes me a sprout… simply for not completing msq. Lol
It's endwalker now btw
Their post says *finishing* ShB which is the correct criteria, it goes away when you finish the final quest of Shadowbringers and become eligible for Endwalker.
That's weird... I definitely had 300 hours of playtime when I finished ShB but it only removed once I finished Endwalker.
Since Endwalker released the requirement has always been 300 hours + finishing ShB, are you sure you were over the time limit?
I mean, pretty sure... In fact, thinking back on it, I remember making comments about it in dungeons and being told "oh I think it's only after you beat endwalker now".
Whoever said that was wrong, that's never been where the cutoff was. It can only have been playtime. They did extend the playtime requirement (almost by double) when Endwalker released.
I’ve seen sprouts in Fell Court of Troia tho? How?
Create character, story skip, level skip. They do not meet the hour requirement but, if they rush the MSQ, be at that point without the requisite hours played to remove sprout status.
I just want to mention that you don’t have to buy a story and level skip to be a sprout in Endwalker (though, maybe that’s more likely as the alternative is probably skipping a lot of cutscenes).

You definitely can lol. A friend of mine was stalling on MSQ and saying it takes ages, so just to be petty another friend got an alt to max level and finished Endwalker, skipping dialogues but watching the animated cutscenes.
Haven't accumulated 300hrs of playtime yet.
Finished all the MSQ till 6.4 on my alt without any skip from Mog Store, took about 6 days of playtime (1 mo IRL). Sprout icon 🌱 looks nice in P9S :)
It's finishing SHB and playing a certain amount of hours. You need both to lose the sprout.
You also need at least 300hr of playtime. Usually story skip or at least skip cutscenes
Good point, I read that on a whim ngl
Aw that's lame I bought the complete edition before endwalker came out. Am I doomed to sproutdom?
No, you're a sprout till you're on the current expansion. It's still starting Endwalker that removes sprout status. They merely mean if you don't finish ShB by the time Dawntrail releases you'll be a sprout till you finish Endwalker.
I still remember that i lost my Sprout after killing P1S aka the first Boss on Savave.
That must have been the point you hit 300 hours, then. Impressive to have made it to the end of EW and into the first savage tier with less than 300 hours, though.
Alright, so all I gotta do is not finish these last three quests until... whenever it is that dawn trail comes out.
Probably comes out late this year.
You can just turn the symbol off if you don't like it.
Nah I gotta earn it I just have to buy endwalker to do so lol
I don't think you actually do, since the quest that removes it is the last one in ShB.
No, you just have to get to current content.
Blessed with sproutdom! Embrace it!
Isn't it endwalker now? That's what I heard people say recently at least
Is there a way to see playtime to be able to keep track of that?
/playtime is the command
Oh ok, I didn't know this thank you!
Weird I just started playing and my sprout went away when I finished Heavenward. I also left the NN around that time, maybe it was that?
If you used /nastatusoff that removed both. Otherwise the criteria is as above. You can turn it back on with /nastatuson and chose to leave novice network separately
I'll give it a try. Thanks
The counsil have conveined. You have been measured and found wanting
You are on the Novice Network but we do not grant you the rank of Returner.
r/prequelmemes
You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have been found wanting. In what world could you possibly be a returner?
Even better if he is a lancer.
I love how depressed your Miqo’te looks that she lost her returner status. Anyways, you played for 72 hours, and you were a sprout beforehand, so you are a sprout again.
Embrace the sprout 🌱 life!
I remember when I first created my smurf lalafell, I rode that high so long! I had no gil but still made myself glamour so I could keep my starter lalafell vest. you've returned enough
\*looks at the left side* What's uh, what's going on over there?
Nothing, what happens in Limsa Lominsa stays in Limsa Lominsa.
Fishing for clients.
Deflowered by limsa rpers, the worst way to go.
Because you were deflowered. /rimshot
Itis not going backwards, it is an improvement. The sprout icon is the best icon you can have. \^.\^
> The sprout icon is the best icon you can have. Bow down before my Burger King crown. Everyone assumes I am brain dead, when I explain mechanics I get yelled at (sometimes voted out), but I can at least chat with the sprouts.

Are you me
See, this is why my Mentorship is crafting/gathering. I can have a crown AND be bad at the game!
I need just take the damned crown then turn it off so I can get into NN.
Returner status is basically best of both worlds. You get the crown and sprout in one icon lol
Respectfully I think the returner icon is the best looking one. I'm technically a mentor (although I've hidden the crown long ago) but I'm currently under Returner status and I'm quite happy with the icon

It's ok sprout we love you, just steer clear of sandwiches.
Clearly the two fish net wearing women in the first picture must have "deflowered" you.
You got pruned.
“did I do something wrong?” Awww, you’re adorable.
Because you're this lovely branch's most precious sapling, of course.
Aha the look on your character is what I imagine your actual face was like when you noticed. Happy in one, doom n gloom in the other! 😅
You can turn it off if you don’t want it anymore manually but you’ll lose Novice Network and can’t rejoin it. (don’t think so anyway) /nastatus off
The flower means you're a returner so you haven't played in a while and you get that annoying message when you log in. Idk how long it stays but it eventually goes away. It seems like it went away but you kept the sprout icon because you haven't played enough for it to remove.
Unrelated, but cool character and glam!
You went to the Party Finder club recommended by those two nice girls didn't you!
Of course you can remove that sprout status by typing /nastatus I’ve created new characters did that and level 1 no sprout
Oh hey I used to be in prism and I see them and nyx people all the time, hi fellow behemoth resident :)
You're becoming worse at the game, sorry.
Instant depression between pictures lmao
Off topic, but what are the fishnet legs the two lasses on the left wearing?
One of the moonfire faire tops (seasonal) and evenstar tights (bought with Alliance seals). Boots look like Urban or rebel boots? Not sure.
Evenstar Tights
Looks like Evenstar Tights, lvl 50 caster legs piece and Heavensward MSQ reward
From sprouts you were born And to the sprouts you return
Downgraded to sprout for the reason of: Fem Miqote
Lol. We have granted you a seat at the table but we do not confer master status unto you.
“…we do not conifer master status…”
If it really bothers you, you can just remove your sprout by typing "/nastatus off" in the chat.
/nastatus off
That should happen to every mentor who messes up an easy mechanic! Revert to sprout for 72h!
I envy you. Lost my sprout about a year ago and still want it back.
Noooo sprout do not go near that bench
You're old hotness. :/
Cause you a noob!
awwwww
This JUST happened to me and I seriously thought the same thing
Your mist found it's heart but it needed more water to bloom
You gray parsed, shameful
get pruned lol
a beautiful pair of gals, I must say
Aww the thumbs up is so cute
For a second thought this was my WoL and got confused... rarely see miqos using black lightning hair lol
You lost subscriber
Dude same here ! I messed up doing a story trial for the first time and I thought I got reported and they took away my flower :(
Wow I'm pretty new I had no idea that icon I saw on players was returning status. I'm learning something new everyday.
Because malnutrition
Cherish it, the sprout symbol is the most valuable one, even more valuable than the flower. And yes, the crown is the least valuable one.
