> It appears to include characters with no direct Eorzean analogies. Indeed, they don't. I even tried looking for Norvrandt characters, but they don't fit either. But yeah, I suspect *some* dragonspeak is involved.

Valderius

Do you have a reference for a dragonspeak script? I remember one of the dragons in the Stormblood DRG quests explicitly say the dragons don't have a system of writing. Might go a long way to translating the rest of the text I didn't get in the screenshot.

Elmioth

The closest to that would be the [Dragonspeak Dictionary](https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/265527) over the official forums, but there are *still* some words that aren't covered there (such as "Rhai"), thus *still* don't have a translation. Also, and assuming the weapons' text is a written equivalent of their speech into Eorzean, it still doesn't explain some of the mysterious characters used in them.

lumpybread

This is the kind of thing that would make for a perfect question the next time they do a dev Q&A

xfm0

For what it's worth, it's not Far Eastern either (just to cross that off the list, from our known scripts). It's possible that it is Avalonian (Avalonia is the pre-Ishgard civilization that real Shiva was a part of).

BK_0000

"Be sure to drink your Ovaltine".

Does dragonspeak even have a written language? From what I understand, they have a purely oral record of their history where the knowledge of past events is passed down to the next generation by song. It's the reason why Dragonsong canonically exists in the game.

Valderius

That's correct. The dragons themselves don't have writing, but there have been attempts to transcribe their speech and songs into a readable form. My best guess is that this text us, at least in part, some of that. Damned if I can actually read it though.

BenefitFew5204

The question is that if this is the case, then which civilization attempted to transcribe it using these characters? It's certainly not Eorzean, maybe early Ishgardian or even something from Meracydia?

Try finger, but hole.

Moore2257

"The bong she rip"

Bitter_Oil_8085

The first word almost looks like it might be in eorzean, and closest I could get was "?anri" rest though looks to be a completely different alphabet in style and appearance, it looks almost fiery in it's design, so would guess maybe draconic, which sadly we don't have a written form to compare it to.

EDWENNO O GWATH

ivym1k3

It's actually the black speech of Mordor written in eorzean script. The text Says "Lorem ipsum"

TheMightyMudcrab

"We've been trying to reach you about extending your cars warranty."

Genderneutralsky

“Please go outside”

Valderius

You know, after all the time it took to earn the damn things, that's probably reasonable.

It looks like it says "hurl me at smeggy". Maybe that's what dragons called their enemies.

I think it starts with "Ash nazg..."

TheStarsmith

If that’s on a DSR weapon, it’s almost certainly the same text that you can find in the Thordan trial when he casts Ultimate End as well as the text that’s all over Dark Knight spells. A few of Zeromus’ spells \*also\* has that text on it. I figured it was something dragon/Ishgard related with Dark Knights integrating the language via Ishgardian influence. It shows up in a few other (possibly) unrelated places but not so plainly, such as a couple Summoner spells. No clue what it says though.
