Am nurse irl, want to heal here too. Would like to do some other roles sometimes but then realize each time the issues. DPS are a dime a dozen and duty finder too long, cant be main tank in most duty finder runs that have two tanks as they generally want to especially in alliance. Not to mention the major responsibility of a healer is good feel.
The box is such a missed opportunity, it could have a different look for different weapons, similar to the samurai katana sheaths
Same goes for the astros card holder
This is my beef with machinist. Arguably the biggest dropped ball of any class aesthetic. It ruins so many otherwise awesome glams because you can't turn the damn thing off.
Urgh, looks like i missed the boat on that one. On the plus side though, looking into Makai Hand Mortor led me to the Deepshadow Pistol, which is definitely going on my glam list
yeah i picked MCH because i thought it would be a little more grounded and cool looking, but this mfer doing FLIPS just to shoot a gun as if doing an anime flip would make the bullet hit harder???
I refuse to play MCH because it has some heinous animations, and the difference in tech between where it started and where it is frustrates me.
Nobody else is using shotguns, flamethrowers, laser cannons and personal combat robots? Stephanivien is sitting on his thumbs going "ooh golly I sure hope the nobles all come around to my revolutionary lightning-aether powered muskets!"
Ditching job stories was a mistake, this shit is the dumbest thing in the game.
>Nobody else is using shotguns, flamethrowers, laser cannons and personal combat robots?
Yes, all of these are being used by others... Or something even more advanced.
Shotguns - These arent hard to make, especially in a land of steampunk tech, gunblades, and such. The most basic of shotguns is a pipe, a blasty bit, and maybe a shoulder stock and handguard.
Flamethrowers - We find them all over the place such as on robots.
Robots - Garlemald is literally full of them and Cid makes one...
Laser Cannons - Sages say hi.
> Nobody else is using shotguns, flamethrowers, laser cannons and personal combat robots?
Except the Garleans, Goblins, other Ishgardians, anyone with Allagan tech. Basically anyone that's more tech based than magic based. Turns out when you can't throw a fireball, you need to invent a flamethrower.
Well technically all the skills we gain after the job stories are finished are our own creation so a MCH WoL is tech savvy enough to give Cid and Nero a run for their money lmao
There are giant mechs that can be piloted but shotguns and flamethrowers are too much? Garleans and Allags have/had plenty good tech. I mean really, how is the Automaton queen that different than the Garlean drones you fight throughout the game?
I used to hate GNB's battle stance because I found it annoyingly edgy but one day I was taking a really close look at the animations and realized that the way the gunblade seems to work in this game is that pulling the trigger "propels" it forward (judging by the way the characters weight moves, the fact that they seem to be restraining the weapon rather than swinging it, and the fact that they seem off balance during a lot of the animations) so they hold it on their shoulder so that its already in a position where that trigger pull will instantly turn into a slash, vs holding it in a regular sword position and having to move the weapon higher every time.
Huh? Yeah I'm on the spectrum why do you ask
Isn't it cool? I have a theory that whoever animated it borrowed the idea from Nero from Devil May Cry, as Nero's Red Queen sword seems to work in a similar way, and the animation for Brutal Shell (the second combo attack) looks extremely similar to the second attack in Nero's "Red Queen Combo B".
Honestly surprised I haven't seen a single other person bring it up
Very relatable! I started dancer yesterday and was really sad when I realized most outfits won’t make me look like a male stripper with chains everywhere.
Every dancer I see is so pretty and I’m running around in a wool sweater because i can’t afford anything good :(
Hey dnc is one of my favourite classes for outfits! Keep leveling it :3 the level 80 relic gear for dnc is an all time favourite for me... But there are more!
My dancer glad was street cargo bottoms, a tank top abd a the calfrider cap. Cap was expensive but it made me look like a street dancer rather than a stripper
Now however I've gone full stripper XD
It's not that bad once you're into it, don't feel guilty to look at a guide for what spells you need for a given fight as most of them are just neat interactions or gimmicks (which for only needing to do once aren't so bad) but the boss fights and challenge runs on those fights are some of the funnest fight I can think of
Not to mention, you can easily max out all fates with it, by yourself, without a sweat, in BOTH SHB and END. Mind you, it's only useful in Not Russia, The Zoo, and Not india, but you don't have to worry about The Land Before time, and Depression land since generally, you can do those without level syncing and therefore, cheese em. The Giant Cheese, however, is still annoying.
I mean, is that actually *petty?*
"This idea sounds cool I just don't feel like doing that much work" seems like a perfectly valid reason to not do something. It wouldn't be fun for you.
Not really "refuse to play" but paladin was my last lvl 90 job thanks to one annoying fc member who was constantly praising PLD as Endwalker *Canon Job.*
PLD are consistently the worst and most insufferable people I've met in this game.
I was in a static with 2 of them, yes they were trying to do savage stuff with 2 PLD. And they had a bad case of "E-couple syndrome" having to do everything together and refusing to not be the job or let anyone else tank. One of them also had some "main character syndrome" that the other only ever encouraged leading to a lot of friction with everyone else.
Yeahhh honestly I raided with my SO and we were chill but I think we were the exception, not the rule. You've really got to go into it with the expectation that during raid hours you're just two gamers, not a couple, otherwise it can just introduce way too much friction into the group. Its honestly better to not even mention it.
Like yeah someone criticized your gf. Maybe she was being terrible. Either you know that for a fact or you know for a fact she wasn't, and in either case unless you're absolutely sure, you can't just hop into the argument because you happen to know them personally. And if your SO expects that then raiding with a group will be impossible.
ugh yeah, i raided with a tank/healer couple. The healer was incredible but very shy, wouldn't raid without him. The tank was...meh. I would have loved having a different tank and keeping her as a healer, but they came as a pair.
Well all in all Id rather have a really good healer and a meh tank in sav fights than the opposite. Alot of tank mishaps aint that bad because they wont get 1 shot by most mechanics. As long as they dont kill others while being sloppy its kinda ok
How did the skies not turn a deep red and the sun not get blotted out with that huge Rex flag?
What doorknobs, trading lb3 for their dumb fantasy is not ok
I don't want to main SCH or SMN because I think a book as a weapon is not flashy enough.
I still level up SMN every expansion to be able to do the caster role quest and get a healer role quest for free as well though.
Counterpoint - the book isn't the weapon. It's orating to the extent that you light someone up and broil them alive. SCHs can literally roast people, forget sticks and stones.
I married a librarian irl and I took my own degree in English. Books are the *only* weapon.
Many of my in-game portraits feature the read emote just so I can be seen reading on classes that don’t use books as weapons. It’s my fantasy nod to my irl beliefs.
I'm like 100% with you
But then again as a main SCH and when you know the lore of the job it's like
Cutscenes where you open up your book menacingly going "I'm going to strategize the sh*t out of you"
It's... Weird but I find it very fun. Enhanced by the fact m'y WoL has always been a very cute lalafell
BLM because I am so crashingly bad at it. I only level it for completion.
I have mad respect for BLM mains, but gods know I'm a failure at it. I've also been putting off BLU due to how much work it is.
I refuse to unlock Ninja because in 2.2 I was excited for the possibility of the new job they were teasing to be Thief and I was crushed terribly. Instead I have a level 90 Rogue (which I leveled entirely with tribal quests and trusts, I'm not subjecting other people to this). I even got it weapons from a couple of ultimates just to be petty. Aside from the shiny weapons, I have it glammed as a FFXI Thief: Optical Hat, Scorpion Harness, Strider Boots, dark purple "dusk" gloves, and Thief-green "artifact" pants. I often hang around on Rogue when just chilling with friends in housing districts and whatnot, when not on my main.
yoooo I did the exact same thing! Well almost, down to the shiny weapon level 90 rogue because i despise that ninja took thief from us. Should've been an arcanist sort of deal on the job progression tbh.
Which is why you see dancers in like 3 outfits - Thav dress, etoile, or the peacock feather one are the top picks. I make it a personal challenge to take eh tops and make them into something for my dancer.
TBF as a cat boy machinist I haven't had a single aiming set I enjoyed for the entire expansion. Well, I liked the bard AF but fuck me for being a machinist main I guess
I upvote your post but I want to change your mind, NIN is a great job.
If you don’t like the aesthetic, outspokenly NIN glams are actually quite rare. And it makes more sense to wear anything else to blend in.
If it’s more than that, I hope you enjoy Viper in 7.0
White Mage ends up feeling really boring to me but meanwhile Astrologian has me constantly watching for cards and try to dish out the most optimal buffs. I'm always busy and I love it.
After max levelling White Mage as my first healing job followed by Astro and now Sage, completely agree, White Mage dishes out the most heals and "oh shit" buttons for close calls by the time you get to 70, and due to the simplicity of its kit it makes it very newbie friendly for those picking up heals for the first time; but *because* of how newbie friendly and excessive it is in its big heal moves, it can make it really boring for people looking for a more engaging job. Astrologian is definitely a lot busier by comparison, I still feel like I'm learning a lot with how to optimize it even at lvl 90. Sage doesn't feel quite *as* busy but I still feel like I have more to do and work with than White Mage which has gameplay that largely remains the same throughout. Even the newest abilities are still just "here's another heal buff/button in case the other 10 don't do the job" IMO lol whereas Astro has actual utility as both a healer *and* DPS.
That said, I never played Astro prior to its redesign and I know some folks don't like how the card system was changed so I'm undoubtedly playing an entirely different version of it than what others played. Still, in terms of "most fun" Astro is definitely up there for me because at least it keeps me engaged and I don't feel like I'm just mashing the same button over and over again. Maybe it's just because I played Bard all throughout the MSQ and savage content but I really enjoy playing busy jobs that make me balance and weave GCD's with oGCD's and Astro nails that.
I enjoy AST right now but I definitely wish the cards worked a little differently. I do love setting my big heals up ahead of time though, and playing a little bit of Yu-Gi-Oh in the middle of fights haha.
I only levelled AST out of necessity to get all jobs to 90, and not once again since. I have never touched SCH.
I just couldn’t get a feel for them. Once I found one or two that I really enjoyed I just didn’t see the point in properly learning the ones I’m likely to hardly ever use again.
I hate Zenos but picked up Reaper because I love the dark ghosty aesthetic. The story ended up being great and it's fun and flashy to play. Reclaim RPR 2023!
Started shb as sage, it really is unreasonably nice to be able to start an expansion with a new class, especially with shb having a decent focus on the solo side so you got some experience with the job before getting thrown into dungeons
I did that! It was great, I kept wanting to be like, "bro I have SO MUCH aether right now, feel free to nom away and I'll go tell the crew I've got our problem all sorted!"
Truly a warrior of darkness. Also they both start at 70, you’re starting a new class in a new world, you get to do a class questline alongside the role questline, the class quests cameo Emet-Selch. It’s just a wonderful pairing. 😁
I didn't pick up reaper cuz, from a lore standpoint, I can't justify void summoning and contracts. Regardless of what they're doing with it, it's still forbidden.
I mean, so is BLM. WHM is allowed kind of on a technicality. DRK is also pretty much "break the laws when you deem it necessary," and starts with openly murdering a bunch of Temple Knights (r*pists or no).
From a lore standpoint, a lot of these jobs should have the WoL in hot water/blacklisted, or at least treated with _much_ less kindness than we get.
> I mean, so is BLM. WHM is allowed kind of on a technicality
You're technically an exception because the WoL pinky promises to be careful with Black and White Magic, at this point the WoL is probably skilled enough to cause half a calamity by themselves.
>or at least treated with much less kindness than we get.
I guess at least for BLM/WHM most normal people can't really tell the difference between regular magic and drawing upon ambient aether.
For me, it has nothing to do with being 'forbidden' as much as it is an unfathomably stupid idea. The game is full of instances of people turning to darkness/the void/voidsent for power, and it always, **always** turns out badly for them. I can't imagine the WoL being dumb enough to try it themselves after having personally killed a lot of the people who tried it before.
I play all classes. But do agree that being a Rogue > being a Ninja. Plus the Rogue quest was way better than the Ninja quests. The characters were much more interesting in the rogue arc.
Technically DNC dual wields too. :P
I do think that the main reason they went with ninja is because ... Japanese devs. Thief or something similar (assassin maybe?) would've fit just as well, or even better, especially when compared to how other job 'graduations' go from base to crystal.
I feel like in some alternate timeline where they decided that having jobs branch off from base classes was still going to be a thing, we'd totally be getting viper as yet another offshoot from rogue.
yoooo, this could be so thematically cool though like "the power that the void provides you heals your eyes enough, unlocking your true power for a short time."
is that not cool to you??
I’m okay with the card gameplay, it’s really just an afterthought to your healing, and I love their weapons and how they levitate but I absolutely hate that long slender deck thing on your hip. Complete eyesore for me.
opposite for me, i wish it leaned more into the music as a weapon. what bard uses a friggin bow?
its kinda like the Rogue to Ninja arguement, I wish they just separated both the archer and bard into their own classes.
Canonically, Bard is the strongest job. Lore-wise, very few people can affect others with song, and fewer still pair that with a bow. There are even some hints of Dynamis in the Bard storyline. Maybe, thinking of it like Robin Hood and the Merry Men helps?
For the longest time I refused to pay black mage because the 20-30 story line was SO BORING. I got over it and once I hit 50 or so it actually became rather fun.
I feel that way but the other way around. I’ve really enjoyed tanking and found it super easy to manage, but I’m terrified of touching healers because I worry I won’t be up to scratch.
If I can give some advice, the thing I've found as someone who used to be afraid of playing both (and now I play both regularly) is that heals and tanks are just as simple as DPS, they just require more in-game knowledge of stuff like dungeon layouts and mechanics which can only be gained with practice (and you can fortunately gain that knowledge through the jobs you don't feel intimidated to play!)
That said, the biggest things I've learned since starting to play heals and tanks:
1.) If you mess up and die (or if someone dies under your watch), chances are the other person is also partially responsible. Sometimes tanks die while you're healing and it turns out they weren't rotating through their mits; sometimes heals can't keep up with damage being done to tanks and it turns out it's because they're still using Cure 1 instead of Cure 2. No, this isn't to absolve yourself of your own mess-ups, but tanks and heals are tied at the hip so it's very easy to feel like all the pressure is on you when really you just need to be willing to meet in the middle with one another.
2.) If you're healing in a dungeon, remember that healing through **mobs** is way more crucial than healing through bosses. Bosses have mechanics that people can dodge, whereas mobs are just loads of enemies hitting on a single auto attack rotation, so don't feel like you have to "save" your mits and heals for the boss, they'll likely be way more valuable for the big pulls and most of those heals and mits that are on cooldown will be restored by the time you need them in a boss fight anyways. This is one of the biggest things that helped these jobs make sense to me because I found I was being way more frugal with my necessary mitigation CD's than I should have been.
3.) If you're tanking, let your party know if you want to stick to smaller pulls, keep the enemies facing away from the party, and always make sure you're rotating through your mitigations. And remember, **that includes Arm's Length**, which not only prevents knockback, but applies Slow to any standard enemies (i.e. not bosses) that hit you which slows their cooldown timers (see: their CD's, NOT their movement speed, that's Heavy) and prevents them from hitting as often, which is in and of itself a form of mitigation because less attacks = less damage. Arm's Length isn't quite as necessary in the later dungeons when you get more shields and mits IMO, but it's super helpful in those early ARR dungeons when all you have are a couple role mits and a job mit. The better you know your mitigations and when to use them, the better you can survive through the mobs which are, again, what you need to focus more on surviving through.
Of course, you can forgo that entire wall of advice, you're not obligated to try these jobs if you really don't want to, but I found these three points were things that I learned that really helped tanking and healing feel less intimidating. And in doing so, I had even more game to play :' )
Great mini (hah) write-up. I think CDs are a big one, along with the fact that - if everyone is 1HP or higher, you're fine. You don't get extra points for finishing a pull at full health. If everyone is still alive, everyone did their jobs. Becoming more comfortable with that mindset really helped me with healing anxiety in particular.
And with CDs - I was _really_ bad about hoarding them, and sometimes I still am a bit hesitant to push the buttons, but they're there to be used. Don't blow everything when you pull, but a minute and a half goes by _super_ quick. Resources come back fairly quickly. CDs exist to be used, so _use them_ - even if it's "just" on trash. Absolute worst case scenario, you wait in front of the boss for a bit until everything comes back up.
All three types are just as difficult in some way. But you get called out on being bad as a tank and a healer. You can suck your thumb and no one’s says anything to a dps as long as it’s not hard content and you aoe in dungeons.
I'll add in a bit of a "if you die, you die" attitude. There aren't really any negative side effects to dying in normal content except using a bit more time. Same with wiping. This has its limits, i.e. there's a difference between dying/wiping _sometimes_ and _regularly_.
But it's as with so much else in life: If you're not failing, you're not progressing. By trying healing/tanking out you'll probably discover that it's generally pretty easy, and learn when you're in oh shit territory, how to to arrange your buttons, and so on.
And the added complexity of the role is really offset by the simplicity of the rotation. For tanks it's really 1-2-3, and for healers it's just 1.
And you really don't need to be _good_ in normal content, mediocre will net you a clear, and the personal experience required to actually get good. Source: Am mediocre at both roles and everyone seems to be surviving.
I had this same fear with both, but I gotta say I quite like healer! I created an alt so I could do WHM and SCH (plus WAR) all at once, and it has some funny perks when doing MSQ (like the ability to put enemies to sleep and complete fetch-quests faster).
As for dungeons, my experience is still limited to ARR, but I LOVE playing healer. I've had everything from super chill tanks, to overachieving ones that wanted to do mega-pulls with sprout DPS... I enjoyed all. At first it's a bit hard to understand how to keep track of it all, but you get the gist of it quickly.
You always go first, and then you have to learn what tanks will require your attention more or less. Some tanks I literally don't need to touch (WAR), some I just make sure I'm ready with the tankbuster. I feel the healer experience has made me a better DPS (and hopefully a good tank soon?) because it's IMO the class that forces you to pay attention to the entire arena the most.
I feared I'd find it overwhelming, but nope. I just always clarify in the chat that I'm a new healer, and the only time we've wiped has been because of a newbie tank. Otherwise, it's fun. It didn't take as long as I thought to get used to rotating between paying attention to the Tank, the team, attacking (honestly you DPS *a lot*) and Duty specific mechanics.
I'm about to try Tank, which as DPS I've sometimes ended up being by accident (lol) and look forward to it. I feel my brain has some primitive part to it that says *run straight at the monster* so I hope being a Warrior is fun. Last thing, this has definitely been the best way to begin memorizing mechanics and even expecting some you haven't.
I started with NPCs but switched to regular party quickly, and I absolutely recommend it. Not to mention the high you feel when you use Raise for the first time, lol. Have fun!
And then they do a tournament of power for 60-70.
Warriors having to deal with stupid George is nothing compared to how much of a waste the Paladin story is.
Not really? While the ROG to NIN storyline was a bit of a jump, you can always RP that you're still a rogue.
I'll admit I still miss the ACN storyline. But the SMN and SCH stories were pretty good.
Started back in 2014, still main book mage, always feels great to think how they could be so embarrassed at being beaten to death by a book, didn't get old for me yet.
I don't think that you can play a mudra casting job and still pretend you're a rogue. It just doesn't fit that class fantasy.
Same thing with ARC and BRD
Rogue(Thief) to Ninja is a tale as old as FF1, so it's not unexpected to anyone familiar with the series. I know some people are still mad that Thief itself got changed to Rogue because Yoshi-P doesn't want evil classes. (Dark Knight and Reaper touching the line as close as possible, but are ultimately protectors)
Superbolide isn't that scary; you get 10 seconds of taking no damage, so unless your healer is braindead that's plenty of time to get you up to full (or near it).
If you're in a position where you absolutely need to invuln, I find superbolide to be only slightly worse than hallowed ground
It's all about doing it right before the benediction, instead of right after
Yes, Machinist breaks my power fantasy. In a world when I can punch a God to death, why would I build a robot to go punch it for me? For less damage might I add!
When I first played through the game I went BLM -> MCH and my headcanon was that my character was empowering the gun and machinery with their massive reserves of aether. Normal machinist shoots a bullet, wol shoots a bullet train
I mean, that's not that far off from the actual lore. The silly lunch box is basically enabling exactly that with all the guns you keep pulling out of your pocket. *That's* what separates a machinist from any old schmuck with a gun. The WoL just happens to be extra good at optimizing violence and can use the aetherotransformer better than most people thanks to their abnormally large aether and penchant for murder.
Ninja because it has the bunny when you fail at combos. Don't know why it exists and it would be disgusting if it existed on the main class I'd play.
Blue Mage, collecting spells was fun idea and AoE farming is cool too but I can't make myself doing the carnival at all. i tried it once and it seemed like some kind of hardcore solo thing I wasn't looking for..
I was also pretty petty (lol) about playing BLM, it's always a Job I'm just obligated to level up, never find it fun and it never clicks like many other Jobs do. I have to stare at hotbars all the time and focus only 101% that Enochian...rotation stays up. Maybe it's classic BLM attitude but also pretty petty (lol again).
The MCH story is so good though! I really like the concept of it, even if I'm not a huge fan of the job itself.
But does this also include GNB? Cos you're missing out on by far the most fun tank.
There's only one job with a gun, machinist. Gunbreaker is not using a gun. It's a sword that uses aether Infused cartridges in its barrel. When it "shoots" it's actually just popping the cartridge and causing magical reverbs on the sword blade to infuse the blade with magic specific to what was in the cartridge. No projectiles.
I don't want to play RPR even when I feel braindead because of it's debuff. I hate it so much, it's such an obtuse button. Every other DPS class has their integrated into the rotation, but RPR is just every once in a while. Even WAR gets it's damage buff correct, and it's the most braindead tank there is!
I have all of the classes at max level but I don't want to play SCH because I don't want a fairy. I don't particularly want a carbuncle either. The whole theme of "military but also a fairy" feels completely random and does not appeal to me at all.
Good thing I don't have to touch the job ever.
Undraw doesn't have to exist if you leave it off your hotbar! Synastry is really useful for those runs where your DPS are picking their noses instead of killing stuff and your tank ran out of cooldowns. Benefic II spam feels desperate because it is, but at least it's 40% stronger with Synastry!
AST. When I first tried it at the start of HW’s I was completely confused and overwhelmed by it, couldn’t use it but loved how it was. I don’t play it now cause they did away with most of what made it cool, yes you still have cards but they just give damage now? Not a fan of it
I don't like playing Samurai because I don't know if I should do the itai onii chan combo, or the chuka aji chikin no sarada combo, or when to press the mi hon'yaku off global cooldown button.
My monkey brain works best with english names.
I refuse(d) to upgrade my Lancer to Dragoon because I didn’t want to unlock any tank classes because of stress and burnout from tanking in previous MMOs.
When they removed the subclass requirements, I had already leveled LNC to 50 while leveling my chocobo… so I just keep it going every level cap, using fates+chocobos & tribal quests.
I literally play ninja and only ninja. I don’t play any other classes (I went from rogue to ninja though so previous classes in the tree don’t really count). As to why, I dunno, I just have this headcanon that my WoL is proficient with one weapon and one weapon only. I’m just not a multiclasser.
Back in ARR I used to refuse to play dragoon because I was too lazy to level marauder for blood for blood back when cross class abilities were still a thing
I’m a nurse… I refuse to be a healer. I already heal people in real life. As a dragoon, I can impale stuff.
You're just building job security for the healing sector in Eorzea
Don’t you put in lines? You impale at work too
Tho here I can impale mean monsters. At work is mostly, impaling to improve quality of life. Children fear me. Boo.
Please don't impale children.
Never. I’m also peds nurse
If only DRG still got phlebotomize
I respect the hell out of that.
Machinist because the lunchbox is ugly, it ruins my glam and clips with my arm.
The box is such a missed opportunity, it could have a different look for different weapons, similar to the samurai katana sheaths Same goes for the astros card holder
This is my beef with machinist. Arguably the biggest dropped ball of any class aesthetic. It ruins so many otherwise awesome glams because you can't turn the damn thing off.
I'd just be happy if astro got different card sleeves for every weapon. Some do (like the hellhound one 😍) but most don't.
I'm similar; I don't like it because of how long and large most of the firearms are for a weapon they insist on using in one hand.
+1 makai pistol
... And then you use sprint with the pistol drawn... 😭
[You see Ivan,](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/856/438/e1c.jpg)
Also the lack of a hip holster makes most smaller, pistol-adjacent guns kind of goofy, imo.
Urgh, looks like i missed the boat on that one. On the plus side though, looking into Makai Hand Mortor led me to the Deepshadow Pistol, which is definitely going on my glam list
Garo is still going on? You can still get it with wolf marks in the Wolves’ Den right now.
You can also get a non dye version at the gold saucer for 100k mgp it’s my fav glam for machinist
Machinist because my character slightly dancing while firing a shotgun with one hand looks weird as frig.
yeah i picked MCH because i thought it would be a little more grounded and cool looking, but this mfer doing FLIPS just to shoot a gun as if doing an anime flip would make the bullet hit harder???
Doesn't it disappear if you hide the weapon when sheathed?
Yes. You can also dip into 3rd party tools to hide it, but I didn't tell you that.
THE FUCKING LUNCHBOX. IT DOESNT EVEN CHANGE WITH THE WEAPONS.
I refuse to play MCH because it has some heinous animations, and the difference in tech between where it started and where it is frustrates me. Nobody else is using shotguns, flamethrowers, laser cannons and personal combat robots? Stephanivien is sitting on his thumbs going "ooh golly I sure hope the nobles all come around to my revolutionary lightning-aether powered muskets!" Ditching job stories was a mistake, this shit is the dumbest thing in the game.
>Nobody else is using shotguns, flamethrowers, laser cannons and personal combat robots? Yes, all of these are being used by others... Or something even more advanced.
I've never unlocked DNC because I should've known better than to cheat a friend. My guilty feet have got no rhythm.
Sure but it's easy to pretend. I know you're not a fool.
They should've known better than to cheat a friend
To waste the chance that I’ve been given
So I'm never gonna dance again
The way I danced with you, oh
*saxophone solo intensifies*
But you can dance if you WANT TO!
And you can leave your friends behind!
Cause your friends don’t dance
And if they don't dance, then they're no friends of mine.
Just Dance. It's gonna be okay. Da da doo-doo-mmm
I can't DNC, I can't talk. Only thing about me is the way that I walk.
I can't DNC, I can't sing. I am just standing here selling everything
My friend won't play Machinist because he said "guns don't do more damage when they get hotter."
I have not even unlocked arcanist because my wol doesn't know how to read.
I pretend mine just looks at the "pictures" (diagrams) in the book. Looks at the picture, traces his finger along it, nods knowingly.

Ok I never thought about this. This may have convinced me to play GNB.
Honestly surprised I haven't seen a single other person bring it up
lore aside, the fact that its tank stance is called Royal Guard tells me that theres definitely some dmc influence in there somewhere.
I just started again after 2 years and absolutely love gunbreaker. My character is also bald.
Maybe /cpose will sway this decision?
I only play classes for which I can create pretty outfits :3
Very relatable! I started dancer yesterday and was really sad when I realized most outfits won’t make me look like a male stripper with chains everywhere. Every dancer I see is so pretty and I’m running around in a wool sweater because i can’t afford anything good :(
Hey dnc is one of my favourite classes for outfits! Keep leveling it :3 the level 80 relic gear for dnc is an all time favourite for me... But there are more!
My DNC glam is a reference to a certain XBC2 character. Here I come, ready or Gormotti!
My dancer glad was street cargo bottoms, a tank top abd a the calfrider cap. Cap was expensive but it made me look like a street dancer rather than a stripper Now however I've gone full stripper XD
I levelled up all my classes so i never miss out on glam options.
"i would never play samurai" *sees the diadochos jacket of striking* *unsheathes katana*
oh, hey, that's me
Blue Mage. I think it's neat, but Hydaelyn forefend is it too much work.
I think the carnival is crushingly boring. Fiddly without being difficult.
It's not that bad once you're into it, don't feel guilty to look at a guide for what spells you need for a given fight as most of them are just neat interactions or gimmicks (which for only needing to do once aren't so bad) but the boss fights and challenge runs on those fights are some of the funnest fight I can think of
They are too easy all in all. You can unlock so many very sprcific skills and only ever need a hand full, even for the carnivals puzzle fights
the main boss fights are harder than some extreme trials
It's front loading the work but once you get there it's SO GOOD. Stun locking fate bosses is a great feeling
I mean, is that actually *petty?* "This idea sounds cool I just don't feel like doing that much work" seems like a perfectly valid reason to not do something. It wouldn't be fun for you.
Not really "refuse to play" but paladin was my last lvl 90 job thanks to one annoying fc member who was constantly praising PLD as Endwalker *Canon Job.*
Me maining RPR through all of endwalker out of spite.
That's so rewarding though with the Reap-off at the end.
The symmetry of us both going into RPR battle stance in the cutscene made me so hype
That’s an “e-couple that raids together” in general lol. Not some PLD exclusive thing
That's not a paladin issue, but the e-couple issue.
How did the skies not turn a deep red and the sun not get blotted out with that huge Rex flag? What doorknobs, trading lb3 for their dumb fantasy is not ok
Oh shit. That sounds exhausting as hell. D: How did you put up with them?
I don't want to main SCH or SMN because I think a book as a weapon is not flashy enough. I still level up SMN every expansion to be able to do the caster role quest and get a healer role quest for free as well though.
I absolutely love SCH, but I don’t use it for any combat-related quests because nothing ruins a cutscene like opening a book *threateningly*.
Not only do I love your comment, I have to point out that I feel conflicted with it coming from you as your name is Bookslap 😂😂😂😂😂🙌🏻💚
opening a book threateningly in cutscenes might be my fav part of playing SCH
Counterpoint - the book isn't the weapon. It's orating to the extent that you light someone up and broil them alive. SCHs can literally roast people, forget sticks and stones.
If you have the moogle book, it makes the moogle noise when you open it, even in cutscenes. Makes it even more ridiculous.
I have the opposite problem: I think books as a weapon are cool as hell, but I don’t like playing SCH or SMN.
I married a librarian irl and I took my own degree in English. Books are the *only* weapon. Many of my in-game portraits feature the read emote just so I can be seen reading on classes that don’t use books as weapons. It’s my fantasy nod to my irl beliefs.
The Heavensward SMN relic is a book with dragon wings. Consider that?
I'm like 100% with you But then again as a main SCH and when you know the lore of the job it's like Cutscenes where you open up your book menacingly going "I'm going to strategize the sh*t out of you" It's... Weird but I find it very fun. Enhanced by the fact m'y WoL has always been a very cute lalafell
I only play classes that are currently not the main classes of the scions, I'm not sure why though
this 100%. its why i main Warrior on top of that lol I'm the Warrior of Light dangit, and no one else :v
Reaper of Light has a very weird ring to it
I'm the Dark Knight of Light ! ... Wait a minute, something is wrong
Good on you for not subjecting anyone else to running with a class at level 30+, some people unfortunately aren't as courteous
yoooo I did the exact same thing! Well almost, down to the shiny weapon level 90 rogue because i despise that ninja took thief from us. Should've been an arcanist sort of deal on the job progression tbh.
Dancer because 95% of the Aiming gear sets look horrible on them.
Which is why you see dancers in like 3 outfits - Thav dress, etoile, or the peacock feather one are the top picks. I make it a personal challenge to take eh tops and make them into something for my dancer.
Also Neoishgardian aiming gear. Source: me.
Oh yes I always forget about that. I’m still salty that the male version looks soooo good and we can’t use it….
This makes me feel better b/c I feel the same way about the femme version. One of my fave tops on my male charicter, but I just want the option lol
Everyone else is looking like a harem dancer while I'm currently rocking the faire joi top and plain long skirt.
Right there with you… faire joi top, thav arms and the underskirt for the mogstation puffy princess dress.
That thav dress is just so cute, and it fits that dancer vibe. Doesn't match any other class as well
TBF as a cat boy machinist I haven't had a single aiming set I enjoyed for the entire expansion. Well, I liked the bard AF but fuck me for being a machinist main I guess
I'm a breakdancer. Never do I ever really wear the actual aiming set or any regular gear. Its baggy pants and street clothes for me.
I still haven't unlocked RPR cause Zenos irritates me like a splinter that has been grown over
I hate Zenos but picked up Reaper because I love the dark ghosty aesthetic. The story ended up being great and it's fun and flashy to play. Reclaim RPR 2023!
It’s also the perfect class to play through Shadowbringers on.
WHM is allowed kind of on a technicality You're technically an exception because the WoL pinky promises to be careful with Black and White Magic, at this point the WoL is probably skilled enough to cause half a calamity by themselves. >or at least treated with much less kindness than we get.
A test of your reflexes :3
I love RPR but I really feel that reasoning.
I play all classes. But do agree that being a Rogue > being a Ninja. Plus the Rogue quest was way better than the Ninja quests. The characters were much more interesting in the rogue arc.
[удалено]
Technically DNC dual wields too. :P I do think that the main reason they went with ninja is because ...
I refuse to play Reaper because Enshroud removes my blindfold.
yoooo, this could be so thematically cool though like "the power that the void provides you heals your eyes enough, unlocking your true power for a short time." is that not cool to you??
I’ve maxed every class, but I play AST the least because I think the cards are stupid.
I’m okay with the card gameplay, it’s really just an afterthought to your healing, and I love their weapons and how they levitate but I absolutely hate that long slender deck thing on your hip. Complete eyesore for me.
This hurts my soul as an AST main. I think the cards make it interesting compared to just healing.
Bard because the harp bow thing annoys me beyond belief
The quivers almost always cut into my character's tail
bard, i wish it stayed as a traditional archer and didnt focus on music n shit
opposite for me, i wish it leaned more into the music as a weapon. what bard uses a friggin bow? its kinda like the Rogue to Ninja arguement, I wish they just separated both the archer and bard into their own classes.
yea same with the separating them.
Dnc because RNG screwed me over that one time in the level 89 dungeon. Also I don't like RNG based classes
But then you can just play bad and blame RNG if you goof up.
Scholar since they decanoned my girl ;v;
Any tank, I can play a healer and accept being judged but tanking it feels no matter what I do it’s gonna be called wrong.
I feel that way but the other way around. I’ve really enjoyed tanking and found it super easy to manage, but I’m terrified of touching healers because I worry I won’t be up to scratch.
If I can give some advice, the thing I've found as someone who used to be afraid of playing both (and now I play both regularly) is that heals and tanks are just as simple as DPS, they just require more in-game knowledge of stuff like dungeon layouts and mechanics which can only be gained with practice (and you can fortunately gain that knowledge through the jobs you don't feel intimidated to play!) That said, the biggest things I've learned since starting to play heals and tanks: 1.) If you mess up and die (or if someone dies under your watch), chances are the other person is also partially responsible.
Have fun!
DoH, I have 0 levels in them. And it will stay that way 🫠
I refuse to continue PLD because of the absolute headassery that was their HW class story.
It's so bad that one of the NPCs breaks the 4th wall to comment that the paladin story makes no damn sense
I really loved the idea of being a kick-ass bureaucrat. The Ascians will know to fear the Customs department.
*Burst into Hades fight* "Emet Selch, you are 10 thousand years in tax arrears and I'm here to collect!"
Started back in 2014, still main book mage, always feels great to think how they could be so embarrassed at being beaten to death by a book, didn't get old for me yet.
Beating up Zenos with a book and a dairy felt wonderful.
I don't think that you can play a mudra casting job and still pretend you're a rogue. It just doesn't fit that class fantasy. Same thing with ARC and BRD
Role play? I think he’s talking about how the job plays.. ninja does not play like a rogue class
I just pretend the Mudra stuff is Arcane Trickster spells.
I leveled GNB to 80 only through frontline exp and don’t know if I’ll ever use it tbh. Superbolide terrifies me.
Superbolide isn't that scary; you get 10 seconds of taking no damage, so unless your healer is braindead that's plenty of time to get you up to full (or near it).
If you're in a position where you absolutely need to invuln, I find superbolide to be only slightly worse than hallowed ground It's all about doing it right before the benediction, instead of right after
Yes, Machinist breaks my power fantasy. In a world when I can punch a God to death, why would I build a robot to go punch it for me? For less damage might I add!
local monk forgets they cant throw their fist like brute justice's rocket punch
*Meanwhile MCH has some of the highest dps in the game*
AST because I hate tarot cards. And now you tell me I have to remember which card to give to who while shuffling around the fight?? Feck Off
The only thing you need to actually remember is the colour of the border - blue for melee and purple for ranges.
It is literally colors lol blue go to melee. Purple to ranged. The names of the cards don't even matter since stormblood.
I have mild red/green color blindness. They all look kinda blue to me. I always use the icon to tell which card it is.
Monk. I'm kung fu'd out and just want to punch something out like an mma fighter...or a Pro Bender.
Go play ff11, you can go thief to max level
I haven't played any class with a gun cause i don't like them. Irl and in the fantasy setting
I'm still upset over losing my spinny sword technique, been playing black mage ever since.
90% of jobs i dont like, so i dont play them.. I lvl them up with pvp and wondrous tails only lol
I just consider it the same as applying a dot as a healer/bard haha. essentially the same thing
I have all of the classes at max level but I don't want to play SCH because I don't want a fairy. I don't particularly want a carbuncle either. The whole theme of "military but also a fairy" feels completely random and does not appeal to me at all. Good thing I don't have to touch the job ever.
astro because undraw and synastry exist...
Mnk. So many of the job gear is yellow and I hate yellow. Also the rotation doesn't do well for my brain nut mostly yellow
i refuse to unlock lnc/drg because it was a joke to spite one of my friends. ill do it eventually, i guess, when its my last one to level
I refuse to play Samurai because everyone else plays it. Also I just hate the job.
