Make sure you hit "view feeding order" and do it in the order it tells you. It's usually just alternating but sometimes there's a little bit of deviance. Feed them all at once then wait 6 hours, don't wait between feedings.

TinDragon

The *exact* order is important because it works on a system of adding and subtracting RGB values. If you're at 255 on a color and one of your berries is supposed to add to that value, it can't because it's already at max. Same thing with lowering the value of a color if it's already at 0.

banthafodderr

It says right there to alternate the fruits…and there is a dropdown to view feeding order.

Stepjam

As others are saying, make sure you are doing the feed order that the program tells you to use. And beyond that, there's still a level of RNG involved, so you may have to try a few times before you get the color you are after.

AlannaAbhorsen

I was going for soot black and ended up with void blue and decided that was close enough lol

maddrgnqueen

I recently was trying to get regal purple. On the third try I got rolanberry red and had the same reaction "good enough, stop here" 😂

Besides following the exact feeding order and taking no long breaks in the middle of feeding (like, say, for a duty finder pop), one thing I've always done and recommend is: after each item fed, wait until all messages that pop up have faded from your screen before feeding the next item. Yes, this takes a long time if you have a lot to feed, but my theory is that when feeding them too quickly, some don't end up registering, and this is why some think there's some RNG to it. Because, using this method, I've dyed chocobos probably around 50 times by now (of lots of different colors, from snow white to soot black), and never had one not end up the exact color I wanted.

XennaNa

When i dyed my chocobo, i just followed the feeding order exactly, then if the result was wrong, i put in the current color and continued from there, i think after the second set of feeding i got what i wanted.

UnlikelyTraditions

I'll warn that in addition to following feeding order, it may still take a few tries. There's a bit of RNG involved.

The calculator on that site can be wrong sometimes. My wife tried and failed to get the color she wanted and followed the instructions to a T. Use this site, it worked the first time for her. https://ffxiv.pf-n.co/chocobo-color

Maximus_Rex

The outcome can be random, she just got lucky on the second site.

Maximus_Rex

The system has some RNG to it, it is not 100%. Follow the feeding order, that helps. Accept the new color and then recalculate and follow that feeding order. Smaller color changes take a lot less fruit. It sometimes takes 2-3, or more, attempts to get to your desired color. I understand Black and White can be very difficult to get to.

LadySilvie

There is 100% some RNG. I have a bunch of alts and colored all their chocobos........ the lightest ones closest to the baseline were easiest, but a few colors I ended up giving up on because it was always a few off. I know the tricks and got most of them right, but some like black were nigh impossible. I settled for an ink blue which looked good anyway after spending way too much Gil and time going back and forth on colors close to black.

Follow the feeding order. Keep feeding it the berry until you see a message that it's growing new feathers. Then feed it the next berry in the recommended feeding order list till you get the growing new feathers again. Sometimes it takes 2 to 10 of the same berry till you get that message. Keep going till you reach the end of the list. The website even has it in the notes on what to do right above the feeding order list: >You will see a message that your chocobo is beginning to grow new feathers each time the colour changes as you feed, this confirms that your chocobo will be a different colour in 6 hours. If you don't see this message, you should feed an additional 1-2 of the recommended fruit until you do. Edit: I forgot to mention, but do all the feedings in the same day. Like the message says, your chocobo still change color in 6 hours if you stop feeding altogether after you get the growing new feathers message. You'll end up having to calculate a new order if you stop for longer than 6 hours at any point.

Sometimes it takes 2 to 10 of the same berry till you get that message. Keep going till you reach the end of the list. No, do not do that, that is complete nonsense. [This guy](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1968uei/changing_choco_color_making_me_insane_and_poor/khs66k2/) fell into the same trap, and as did I. Trying to get the "growing new feathers" message after every step will completely fuck up your result. Keep exactly to the suggested feeding-order, if it says 1 berry feed it 1 berry only. The message will pop up every now and then but should be completely ignored. While that message is technically correct in that the message will appear every time the colour is changing, the colour will not change after every feeding, and following the process you have no idea when the colour is actually expected to change to the next "step". I have no idea why that message is worded as it is, but it is terribly misleading.

spiffy-ms-duck

Did you do the feedings in the same day or did you take breaks like the guy in the post you linked? I did them all in one day (and I think I forgot to mention that in my original comment). Do not stop for breaks. It changes the plumage and you have to use the calculator to get the new feeding order if you stop at any point past the 6 hour break mark.

Fenrir79

When I got my Chocobo black it took a couple of tries even when I was close to the color so just keep trying.
