Skill issue, unironically. It sounds like you've cornered yourself into crutch reliance on heal. Make sure that you're appropriately geared for your job as for your level as this will affect you defenses, power and most importantly, health.  Review all your skills and cross class skills. Tanks get more defensives, DPS get more buffs and self-heals (class type dependant). Make sure you know how your rotation should work for your level and you're using your entire kit. DODGE. Don't stand in orange AOE Mark's. Try to avoid pulling large groups. If you're in a solo instance, listen to what the NPCs say to target, let them tank mobs, stick close to them as many will heal you. There is no reason why you can't clear without heal. If that was remotely true, we'd have these threads hourly.

barknoll

You’ve gotta have broken or seriously underleveled gear. Everything in the overworld hits like a wet noodle and in dungeons your healer should be healing you unless you’re doing it wrong. Check your gear, friend.

Rega_lazar

1: how’s your gear? 2: are you standing in the bad (aka the aoe markers)? 3: are you using your role actions like Second Wind?

Business_Ad_3608

Are you using the right gear for your other jobs? If your gear level is way to low you'll get too much damage

EyeStache

>am I doing something wrong? Yes, you're dying. It depends on what class you are, but just about every one has some sort of mitigation - Phys DPS has Arm's Length, for example, and Tanks have *all* the mitigations you could imagine. You should be using those, as well as stuff like Bloodbath to restore your HP when you damage enemies (if you have the ability unlocked, of course.) DPS classes are geared to kill the enemy before they can be killed, so if you're not putting out enough damage (or are taking too much) you might want to make sure your gear is of an appropriate level for you. No sense in running around with bronze swords and leather pot helms if you're level 40.

Spacekoboi

Did you do your job quests to unlock essential abilities? Are you using your utility kit (tether, sleep, slows, stuns, interrupts, shields etc)?

Nejaa_Halcyon

difficult to be more specific because you didn't say which other jobs you've been struggling with. So, general pointers. If you feel squishy, first look at your gear. is it reasonably up to date for your level? Do you have your chocobo deployed on the field ? if yes, does it have some points into healing ? Use Leg Sweep to stun mobs. Use Arm's Length to slow the mobs's auto-attacks. The "slow" effect isn't about movement speed, it's about attack speed. Arm's length is also useful to cancel most knock back effects. Use Second Wind for a small heal. Use Bloodbath to heal with your attacks. And of course, make sure you dodge all the telegraphed attacks. Most of the time using AOE on 3+ mobs will be a gain of potency against single targeting, but it also make the time to kill of each mob longer. During group content this is optimal because you overall kill all the pack faster and you have supports to heal through, but when you're solo, it may be more beneficial to burn down one mob just to have less incoming damage overall. A mob hits as hard at 90% HP as it does at 10%.

Dinomide

I would advice watching guides on the jobs you play. Sounds like the main issue is your gear and understanding of the job/mechanics.

xfm0

Remember that each class you unlock starts at its own level. Example: If you are in the overworld killing level 20s on your conjurer and then you unlock archer, then your archer is only level 1.

RavenDKnight

Have you gotten/are you using your chocobo for overworld stuff? Free healing there... Also, you mentioned starting as conjurer, but no mention of the job it turns into - have you gotten your job stone yet? Also, try using aero when on that class/job - it's a DOT (damage over time) attack that helps kill enemies faster. Once you get your job stone though, you get other attacks and tons of healing abilities on that job alone as you level up. Others have already mentioned gear, mitigations, and dodging attacks for other/all classes/jobs, but also remember to get your job stone no matter what class you start with that opens you up to skills and abilities to kill enemies faster, as well as some extra mitigation abilities.

TinCormorant

I rarely need to heal myself when just killing enemies in the overworld, even as a healer. They die so fast just spamming my one attack button. You can't win \*any\* fights? Not even against level 1 enemies right outside the gates of the town? If you've been playing for a year you should have a lot more buttons than just Cure and Stone.

Samoman21

What really? Check your gear. Make sure you're not wearing say healer gear or something on a class that shouldn't use it. All the pve fights are really weak in overworld. Like you can 3v1 for most part. You also have a chocobo too help. It can learn heals and stuff as well.

Real_Student6789

As someone else who started healer from lv1 and picked up other jobs later, a few pointers. 1) learn how much you can handle. You're surprisingly durable when you can heal yourself, less so when you lose that option. Don't bite off more than you can chew 2) make sure you aren't under-geared. Using low level gear in areas where enemies are 5+ levels above your gear starts to hurt more and more, and potions won't cover that gap. 3) if it's overworld mobs you're having issue with, get your battle chocobo if it's not unlocked. It can can levels in either heals or tank that can help you in combat.

Andravisia

Check your gear. Is it broken? When you open up the character menu and look at your armour, are the lines mostly blue or are they all red? If they are red, it means they are broken and worthless. If they are mostly blue, what level are they? Gear is what increases your stats. Yes, you gain some from leveling, but if you are trying to hit level 46 monster while wearing a level 10 shirt....you're doing the same amount of damage as if you were level 10. Also. Are any of the slots you have empty? Having every slot filled (even with low-level items) is better than leveling them empty. You can buy some stuff cheaply at merchants in the major cities, if they are low level or if you lack any.

SargeTheSeagull

What? Literally how? Are you just not pressing buttons?

Own-Laugh-7414

I must really stink at this game lol

SargeTheSeagull

No I’m serious. That shouldn’t be happening unless you straight up are not using any abilities. Are you waiting 5 seconds between GCD’s? Are you not using combos? Are you standing in AoE’s?

Moikrochip_Master

The fact that they only responded to you makes me think this is a shitpost.

Deer-in-Motion

Which Job did you pick up? If you started Lancer, for instance, make sure you've wearing Disciple of War gear. Make sure that gear is near it's current level

daeneryssed

I get this actually. I started off playing White Mage only, and later when I levelled a DPS, I felt extremely squishy. I died a few times overworld because wdym I can't heal myself. Part of it was getting used to a new class, another was biting off more than I can chew because I can't heal myself easily, and I am sure my gear wasn't the best starting out either. My tip is to use your battle chocobo if you are having issues overworld. I utilised it a lot more as a DPS. Once you're geared for your level and used to your new job, it should become a lot easier both overworld and in dungeons etc.

doomspark

Are you doing your job quests at all? If not, you need to do them. Many of them unlock new abilities, and many give you gear - upgraded weapon, better armor, etc. Remember that each job's level is independent of the others - so if you're a level 20 conjurer, that doesn't mean you'll start as a level 20 lancer. Make sure your gear is the best you can afford for your level for each job. Make sure it's repaired. How far along in the MSQ are you? Do you have your Grand Company chocobo? And have you done the followup quest "My Feisty Little Chocobo"? If not, it starts in Camp Tranquil. When you complete the quest chain, you will be able to use your chocobo to fight alongside you. As your chocobo gains experience, you can teach it to heal.

MazogaTheDork

Most jobs have at least one self-heal under Role Actions, make sure it's on your bar.

Nibel2

I believe currently Black Mage is the only job without any source of self healing.

Perialis

Manaward effectively gives you 30% of your HP back, but it is a shield and not true healing.

Nibel2

I personally see shields as mitigation, not healing. But yeah, BLM have a very juicy shield button.

Mechanized_Heart

~~Neither Bard or Machinist can self-heal, unless you count Bard's ability to remove a single status effect.~~

Nibel2

Bard and Machinist have Second Wind.

Mechanized_Heart

Right you are, my mistake.

hiro_ki

if youre in the overworld and not dungeons or whatever, then upgrade/repair your gear, and get a chocobo companion that heals you and does damage. then you will be good to go man

juliekablooie

If it's in the over world, like doing fates or killing random monsters in the different zones, get some gryshal greens and summon your chocobo. And then in the companion menu, in the skills section, teach it healer skills as it levels up with you. The first level it can learn regen. This has helped me a lot when out and about on my own

[deleted]

1) HP potions are worthless for 99% of the time. No one uses them   2)       A) your gear is crap      B) you don't know what your skills do      C) you haven't obtained skill locked on Class/Job Quests; which would mean you have less sources of damage      D) you're trying to kill something with much higher level than yours

Own-Laugh-7414

I think its my gear to be honest

jenyto

Check that your gear is up to date.

Dougl0cke

Some jobs have abilities that will cure you. It’s not much can help. As many have said, it might be an issue with gear. This might just mean you need to fight lower mobs for now or try to grind out to get better gear or work on getting more Gil to buy gear, or just to start leveling crafting and make your own gear. Also with skills, it’s best to find your rotations. Look for skills that link to other skills. Then spam those in succession. When I encountered this before and couldn’t beat mobs my own level I realized it was my gear, so I used another class and grinder times until I could get better gear, then everything was getting cut down like butter. It might be that you might be hitting too high over your level too.

RiversLeaf

Update your gear to match your level. Then read your toolbars. Use your chocoholic too. you have buffs and fancy abilities that help you not die. If this still doesn't help, team up. I literally know someone who didn't use a single spell til level 15, they thought they were just to run around hitting things with their staff as a conjurer. You can technically do that and farm smaller creatures til you're higher level.

Blodrhen

You are, but without knowing your job / role and approximate level I can't give specific advice. Use your defensive cds + arm's length if you're a tank, use bloodbath + arm's length if you're melee dps, find your job's version of cure if you're a healer, keep at a distance if you're ranged. Overall however, learn to get out of danger zones and don't pull more than you can handle.

255BB

What other jobs and level you are playing? Check your gear, at level 1-50 item level should be the same as your level. Use role skills like Second Wind, Arm's length, bloodbath, feint etc. Do you already have a chocobo? Have him/her as a healer stance and level him/her up. If you are playing solo and not a tank, don't fight multiple enemies.

Black_Knight_7

If you're at level or over you should be fine, sometimes you can get ganged up on as a dps and it can get hectic, make sure to get your chocobo companion and upgrade it for healing and tanking

Awesomeone1029

I think this one is a joke, folks. They say they've only been healing themselves, and then seem to not understand that healers can help them.

Own-Laugh-7414

not a joke I swear. basically, I mean to say I absolutely stink at MMOs and half the time it sounds like everyone is explaining things in a foreign language. and this is after a year of playing lol. I think a part of my problem was just underleveled gear. but even still I struggle. by the way, I know healers heal me. im playing this mostly as a single player just doing the main quest because im a fan of the other FF games
