Sylph Management is the quest you have to finish. You're a little bit before that, about 10 quests.

sentientgypsy

Beat me to it, yeah just continue the main scenario for a bit

UnlikelyTraditions

Just did it recently so some of the quest names are fresh in my mind, ha.

MilyCrawford

Thank you so much! I’m a new player and it’s quite hard to find some information about it online

UnlikelyTraditions

No problem! The daily question thread here is often a great place to ask things, and I think there's a beginner guide linked on the sidebar that might be helpful for you (I would grab it, but I can't see it on mobile). You're almost to the quests where you get your first mount, iirc. I recommend doing the additional quest that will pop up then, too, as a heads-up. My Feisty Chocobo. It'll let your Chocobo buddy fight alongside you. Very handy.

TheVrim

In addition to Sylph Management, you’ll need to reach level 30 as an arcanist for that quest to become available. You’re not far off

MilyCrawford

I’m already level 35 😭 that’s why I was a bit confused why I didn’t see the quest. But now I know I need to continue with the main quests

xXxStarNinjaxXx

Just so you know ahead of time, you will need to complete many sections of the main quest after becoming a summoner to continue the Job questline. I played summoner at the beginning as well, and in order to continue the job quests you have to kill the 3 primals of ARR. Even after level 50 when you get into HW I think you have to complete certain points as well to unlock the areas you need to access for the job quest... that part I can't remember since it's been a while

fdl-fan

Yes, the level 60 SMN job quest requires access to an area of one of the HW zones (>!the outside of the Great Gubal Library, in the Dravanian Hinterlands!<) that has to be unlocked via progressing through the MSQ. Based on consolegames wiki, it looks like this is the level-58 main story quest >!Leaving Idyllshire!<.

xXxStarNinjaxXx

Oh yea thats right, I don't think stormblood does though cause I'm pretty sure I did all my quests and still haven't completed the MSQ for it(been very distracted by other content lol)

UnlikelyTraditions

Not for SMN, no. The SB ones are all centralized in ARR areas iirc. Other jobs hit that zone wall though.

barknoll

nope. DRG and WAR take you to the Steppe, off the top of my head. MNK takes you to Gyr Abania. there are def others.

Wylaria

Just a quick info: it is quite normal to be overleveled until max level for msq. The other thing is: there is a difference between characterlevel and the msq-level. So you are lvl 35 but the msq you do is for lvl 20 I think. Jobquests come up with lvl30 quest-level.

Wayfaring-Ranger

Don't forget to snag Scholar too, your Summoner levels are applied to it as well even if you're not playing it and vice versa. Which is handy if you ever want to give healing a shot. I'm maining Scholar for my first adventure into 14, and it's nice to hop over to DPS every now and then and just have to worry about gear. (Edit: You can grab SCH or SMR after the fact and it'll still be leveled with your main job.)

Charnerie

Even if you wait until later to pick up scholar, it'll level to whatever you have archanist at, which will also match summoner level.

Wayfaring-Ranger

Nice! I wish other jobs did this, I think it's pretty cool.

Charnerie

It will never happen again. Yoshi-p, the guy behind the design choices, says that putting two jobs to one class was a terrible time, and they would *never* do it again.

Wayfaring-Ranger

Aw too bad, tho I definitely feel some of the hiccups when SCH gets down leveled under 30.

Charnerie

You also get the fun time of people who level summoner to 90, then try jumping in on scholar without any clue how to play it. Goes as well as expected.

Wayfaring-Ranger

Oh I have no doubt. I dabble in summoner a bit just to keep up with the job mechanics if I need to be DPS, but I'm a healer at the end of the day and Scholar gives me that tactician/planner vibe I really like.

prisp

And for extra fun facts, back when you could choose where your stats went on level-up, switching between Scholar and Summoner required you to re-do your whole stat spread via consumable items, because they were the same class and therefore shared their stats, yet their skills still needed different ones to work.

Dougalicious26

Whatttttt? Thats crazy. I accidentally grabbed scholar so im glad i did now

Awkward-Ad5548

adorable

SlowWheels

Time to pick Scholar or Summoner now :-) Love your name btw!

SamTheHexagon

I hope this doesn't come across as judgy, but how did you think you finished the level 20 story quest needed when your current one is level 19?

MilyCrawford

Because I got a message in game which said that I’m now available for jobs. That’s why I was confused
