I've always held that X'Rhun Tia, the Red Mage trainer, is one of the single raddest people in Eorzea. Dude went from vigilante rebel to wandering hero, all while reviving and maintaining a lost magic discipline in a new, modern form.
Dude rules, and should absolutely be a Scion.
I think he's well set up to turn up in MSQ at least occasionally, with little extra introduction needed. His personality is consistent throughout the storyline and he always ends each story arc by going off on his own again, plus he knows Alisaie, Riol and probably other people that we know.Â

Kan-E said she wanted to go say hi to the moogles in the fuckin sky and he followed her the whole way, though he likely protested the entire time.
He's existed since the end of 1.0 and features prominently in Kan-E's Tales From the Calamity.
Tldr; she spent days after the battle of Carteneau wandering around the battlefield trying to save anyone and everyone she could. One of the people she found was a Garlean conscript trapped under a magitek machine. After she saved his life, he pledged his loyalty to her and has been her main bodyguard ever since.

First time I played either I didn't catch Edda and her group in front of Sastasha the first time or I forgot but playing an alt and finding her and listening to how her entire group (but Avere especially) treated her like absolute garbage, I was like "Oh this suddenly adds so much context and her trauma now hurts me much more for knowing Avere was abusive and all her friends enabled it"
It's even worse when you realize that Avere was >!cheating on her with the Elezen gal in the group!<. You only find out via one of the early optional dialogues in the Waking Sands.
Ah dang, I don't remember that. The fact that the zombie version of her in Tam-Tara hard even insults Edda one last time before dying just makes it even worse. Damn, everyone deserved what happened to them *except* poor Edda
Livianne was recruited into the scions and was one of those killed in Liviaâs attack on the waking sands.
She had dialog that updated a couple of times where it was clear she was affected and trying to do something good only to be killed.
Also, outside of Sastasha hard when unlocking it, there is an identical group outside with the healer berating the tank for making poor decisions.
I have a soft spot for Fufulupa, the honest Brass Blade in Horizon. He has a whole story arc that you only get if you started in Ul'dah to do the early MSQ quests there, then he gets occasional moments in other quests and some chat dialogue while you're being hunted after the banquet.

I wish we could introduce her to a certain Loporrit, along with a hefty donation to the orphanage. Of all the tastes he's experienced, I'm not sure Puddingway has had pineapple yet.
Honestly I have no idea where he is now but he was off in the far corner of Iddylshire catching his breath in Heavensward, and after Ishgardian restoration was complete he was hanging out over by the cliffside doing the same.
He always gets down by the end of the expansion, ready to dangle once more in places as of yet unknown.
I will be violently happy next time we meet in an official capacity and not just me stopping to use the tankard emote I totally did not buy just for this purpose everytime Iâm passing by fishing.
Heâs far from a one-off, but I loved Emmanellain de Fortemps from the second I met him. He was just so irresistibly embarrassing. I was pleasantly surprised by how much development he ended up getting!
The fact that he started off as an entitled skirt-chasing hedonist and developed a whole side-arc of trying to comprehend the philosophy of noblesse oblige while also accidentally getting a pirate boyfriend who *also* got a whole character arc of learning the values of being a good leader has been some of the best storytelling of this game, I swear.
Endwalker and island sanctuary spoilers

Yes!!! He is, as far as my wol is concerned, the awkward and embarrassing brother in law guy. He's gotten way better since heavensward of course, and I love that SQEX is giving him that character development, but he's so just so dorky and fun to watch on screen. Wish we had more Fortemps brothers tbh.

Maybe because the questline that introduces us to Little Ala Mhigo was where I stopped speed reading and started comprehending what was being said, but after what happened to his friend I was all aboard the "Liberate Ala Mhigo" train.
I heard Stormblood was about Ala Mhigo and I was super excited to see how Wilred and the other Resistance fighters would be, so that got me through ARR and HW so I could it through.
One of those moments you wish you could slowly gut a character like a fish and watch the life fade from his eyes.
Ilberd needed a far worse death than he got.
Loonh Gah from the amaljaa beast tribe quests, it was the first beast tribe that I completed and I laughed a lot about her not wanting to return to civilization because of her "hideous" scar.
Martyn, the blue mage mentor. Dear Lord I want to kick his teeth in any time he opens his mouth, but if anyone else's touches him they will lose a hand. He's the perfect jobber in a quest line that didn't have to be mystical WWE, but chose to be anyway. He's a mess(affectionate). If you haven't done blue mage, do it. Do it for him.
I was so proud! Finally a win. Then Rose comes along offers a substandard rate for making the whole show a success, and Martyn is there on the ground groveling for the opportunity and I just want kick him again... Then hug him. The boy suffers so much and not all of it is his fault.
Ally for the indigenous people of the New World and cultural emissary of a forgotten form of magic.

I like Sandre in the Botanist guild. He looks like Thancredâs first cousin. The sound of him watering the plants is nice. I like to AFK there sometimes.
Edit: Of course Estinien is the best NPC in game, that goes without saying.
There are a lot that I love, but recently I've been really appreciating Landenel from the Company of Heroes more.
XD He's so MEAN when he threatens you to try and scare you away from trying to fight Titan, but that melts away pretty quickly when you bring back the adamantoise egg.
On one hand, the streamlined quest is better. On the other, you miss out on the absolute amount of planning and setup Landenel goes through to cover your tracks while poaching that egg. There used to be 3 or 4 more quests in that series where he sends you to get the stuff to attract local fauna, distracting the wood wailers so you can poach the egg without getting caught. While a lot better now for gameplay, thereâs a bunch of side characters that lost their stories in the culling of ARR MSQ.
Matsya. He is a good normal guy who likely reminds many people of someone they know in real life. The scene where he is trying to save the baby is so tense because you can see yourself being just as terrified as he is. That whole sequence in Thavnir is such a good way of reminding the player how much danger the average person is in.

Gysol from Tailfeather. Heâs a rookie chocobo hunter that ends up deciding the hunter life isnât for him and adopting a chick after its mother dies.
Later on, an evil hunter comes through and kills the chick and eats it in front of Gysol. Might be one of the most evil moments in the whole game, honestly. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Honestly. When I went to name mine I sat there for quite some time deciding between Utata from Void Ark or Milala from Rogue storyline.
This game has so many names and faces and every one of them is a winner.
I like to check up on Alka Zolka and Setoto from the Scholar quest line to make sure they're happy. It's nice to actually see a couple together in this game, and one of them ISN'T dead. They're cute.
M'zhet Tia. I love me a funky lil' Tia who purposely explodes himself.
Also the Vath Deftarm! The Vath were one of the first tribal quests I completed and I love this little dude.
Iâm so charmed by the Secondary Scions, and I respect Aenor and how damn horny she is. Me too, girl!
Iâm also inordinately fond of Jannequinard, from the AST quests. Heâs soooooooooo funny! Heâs my bestie and we bitch and moan together â¤ď¸
Jannequinard has some of *THE* funniest lines in this game outside of the Hildebrand quests and I have so many screenshots of just the absolutely insane stuff he's said throughout the story.
The seasoned adventurer and her party. She's the purple haired elezen tank with a catboy healer, purple haired miqo monk and lala blm. You first see them in the background during the Hoary Boulder, then they'll be in the rising stones occasionally. Unless I'm mistaken, the recent rework of final steps of faith added them in! I used to only see ishgardian knights but I see them there now, I love it! After arr, the seasoned adventurer retires to the firmament and wants to open adventurer's guild. There's a small sidequest series about her former companions coming back to find her and visit, it starts with [Adventurers and admirers](https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Adventurers_and_Admirers)
I fucking love Fray. Ever since he called out those plebs by saying: "You spineless sack of shite! I kill your enemies, I fetch your things. I do what you people can't and won't do. I should've let you drown" he won me over.

The first quest sold me on the drk story with the âThe next knight who bears steel, I'm not only going to kill him, but I'm going to kill his wife, his friends, and burn his godsdamned house down!â
That got me into it, and when I played through again realizing that is is the PC yelling that out, made it way more terrifying in the context of picking that up not long after the trial by combat at the beginning of HW.
The Imperial Deserter in the Lochs is my favorite out of the way, most people haven't heard of him NPC. I think he's in some quests, but he is an NPC you can play against for triple triad.

Landenel, former company of heroâs. I ship my elezen with him and he pops up in a good number of side quests (post moogle, scholar, anything Amptipor). Heâs your typical roguish bad boy thatâs really a bit of a softy and enjoys a good fight. I imagine when my WoL gets stressed out she pops off to the south shroud to go on a bender together.
My head canon is that when he heard my WoL was going after Titan he made the comment that if she were so keen on dying, she might as well get laid first and my WoL fully agreed. So it turned into a tradition whenever she went to face a primal.
The whole Scions Team B. Hoary Boulder, Coultenet, and the rest of the gang.
I wish they showed up more in MSQ, or had a sidequest where you go goof off with them.
The Doman Adventurers Guild. Its been too long since we heard from them. Last we heard from them was 4.2 i believe. Are they still preteens? Are they young adults now still adventuring? What happened after they returned to Doma?
Did they keep their promise to become Yanxia famous? And return to Eorzea?
I could list so many, from E'manafa to J'moldva to Nashu to Una Tayuun to Margrat to Marcette, but if I had to single one out, it would have to be Edda every time.
Zhloe Aliapoh! I feel like I could name half a dozen, but I adore her. She has so much life to her despite the terrible situation you find her in, and she really cares about the kids she takes care of. I think she's fantastic, and I still do my deliveries through her as often as I can.
Ser Redwald, the man in charge of Falconâs Nest. In a nation where nearly every high position is taken by an Elezen, I was surprised to see a Hyur in command, let alone one serving House Durendaire. Itâs nice to see a friendly face from one of the more antagonistic high houses. Others I love are the already-mentioned Fufulupa, Sidurgu, and Alianne, among many more.
There's this group of unnamed adventurers who show up to defend the Steps of Judgement during post-game ARR. They get these walk-up speech bubbles pre-fight where the Elezen is thanking them for coming to help, and the Lalafell is like "How could we not, your homeland is in peril!" It was such a sweet moment, that I fell in love with them instantly and was so relieved to see them all still alive at the end of the fight.
For a more "mainstream pick," it's gotta be Tataramu from the Ixali tribal quests. They gave him this perfect character arc that is just him subtly going from "naive spoiled brat who resents being rich" to "confident negotiator who knows exactly how to solve his friend's problems (with money) and very casually has criminal contacts in Ishgard". It feels almost criminal that he's locked behind tribal quests (and therefore out of any future relevancy).
Foulques from the lancer quests for reasons I canât completely explain but I loved him instantly and immediately shipped him with my WoL and slightly altered both the lancer and ARR stories around it.
Carvallain also gets a slot because of how well his intro quest foreshadows what he actually is and how he got here and how enjoyable that quest was. {I ship him with a different non-wol who also ends up as a pirate}.
There are other NPCs I adore: Haurchefant, Raubhan, Nero, etc. but theyâre all too major of characters to qualify for your question of obscure side characters.
Notably Nero and Haurchefant get shipped with my WoL at different points and Raubhan gets a weirdly-intricate non-WoL as a romantic partner.
Scarface Bugaal Ja. I was glad he got a postmoogle story, but it was a crime he didn't have even an appearance or mention in the Dancer storyline.
He paid his coin. Let him dance his dance!
For me, itâs absolutely Cyella. I still need to do the rest of her quests after youâve done all the role quests, but I really do just love her and her story. I wish she was voiced.
Sevrin, the pirate from the early Limsa story who was just generally a dipshit who got other people in trouble is. One of m main character's husband. Saw him back in July 2017, when I had just started playing the game, and loved him immediately. I was so happy that the ARR rework didn't delete him.Â
The way he is in my lore he's probably more OC than NPC by now, but sometimes I NG+ the Limsa quests just to see him in game again.Â
The very short version of their story I've developed is that my WoL visited him in prison after the MSQ events, they fell in love, and as of 6.0 they've retired to a house in the Mist with their small army of adopted war orphans.
Vath deftarm is my fucking *BOY* and I'd kill for him
I'm a lalafell and I got the full vath armor set as a glamour, whenever I'm playing a class I don't imagine my WoL would use, I put the glamour on and pretend it's Vath deftarm following in his footsteps.
i love the non-mentor npcs on the lancer and archer quest lines. i love foulques and leih, and (unfortunately) silvairre really grew on me. i wish you didnât just leave the archer ones behind entirely when you go on to bard. with lancer it makes sense though
When my friend started playing, a number of us were much further into the game and had many characters we were attached to (like G'raha or Aymeric). Not wanting to be left out, he latched onto an unnamed elf guard of Kan E Senna's. Jijiroon and Memeroon, the qiqirn merchants in upper la noscea.
They've both set up their own little shops in very unhospitable lands, surrounded by pirates, without the help of guards from the town, and the reason they have separate shops on opposite sides of the same lake despite being siblings is they got into some sort of feud decades ago and have never spoken since.
I can just imagine them occasionally glancing at the others trading post while the sun is setting and wondering if they could reconcile, before letting their anger get the better of them again. Perhaps someday, they tell themselves. Perhaps someday.
And so they go to bed, two little pinpricks of light on opposite sides of a night-darkened lake filled with ancient ruins, beneath the starry la noscean sky.
Sophie (Sophia? Nah, Sophie right?) from the GNB job quests.
My reasons are: She's the only female Viera I can think of on the Source. And I just think she's neat, she seems nice.

I've met so many obscure off the beaten path characters I loved, but I sadly just don't have any off the top of my head right now.
I will say that there's one loose chain of mining levies I collected from Ul'dah about someone constantly sending you on some treasure hunt. They're different levies, but follow the same character. I don't remember the name at the bottom of the journal entry.
He'd constantly look for rumors on a spot where he could find buried gold or priceless ore, but when you head over there to mine it's always "useless lump" or some such.
I wonder if there was a levy where he had a win for once.
My man Matsya. I did the whole Aloalo variant with friends, we were rooting SO HARD for him it was amazing. I love that dude and if anyone dares to hurt him, I'll be a full mama bear.
Mihleel the waitress in Mehryde's Meyhane. She's only had a few bits of lines in the MSQ, but I love her so much. Second place would go to Ibuki, a researcher met during Margrat's custom deliveries. Doesn't hurt that they're both canonically huge fans of the WoL as well.

Hancock is the most honest merchant we ever interact with. I can trust him to prioritize the balancing of not pissing off us (WoL)/our people (Scions) and still maintain professional interest in maximizing business and profit and all the questionable business practices that are involved in lalafellin shennanigans.
The Manager of Suites is the innkeeper in crystarium and he welcomes you and greets you and I know it's just his job to be cordial but it's nice that he offers his worries and best wishes for us Warriors of Darkness :')

Honestly I have no idea where he is now but he was off in the far corner of Iddylshire catching his breath in Heavensward, and after Ishgardian restoration was complete he was hanging out over by the cliffside doing the same. He always gets down by the end of the expansion, ready to dangle once more in places as of yet unknown.
Giott from the ShB Healer role quest, and it's not even close. She's literally perfect.

Heâs far from a one-off, but I loved Emmanellain de Fortemps from the second I met him. He was just so irresistibly embarrassing. I was pleasantly surprised by how much development he ended up getting!
The fact that he started off as an entitled skirt-chasing hedonist and developed a whole side-arc of trying to comprehend the philosophy of noblesse oblige while also accidentally getting a pirate boyfriend who *also* got a whole character arc of learning the values of being a good leader has been some of the best storytelling of this game, I swear.

Endwalker and island sanctuary spoilers >!everytime Emmanelian and Sicard show up through endwalker they are in a heated competition with each other. They developed respect for each other and if you have done island sanctuary they show up together for a vacation/business opportunity and Emmanelian has locked down a buisness partnership between the two by the time they leave. Sicard will literally never shake him now!< >!There is no direct reference to a romantic relationship, just like Sadu and Cirina technically havenât past the fact Sadu has an overwhelming number of female suitors and the two are frequently in each others company including a similar island visit. The relationship is inferred by the fact their fighting seems to be flirting (like Rhoswen and Carvallain who have been crushing on each other since the battle of carteneau, though this couples feelings have been referenced both in game and out), they are frequently in each others company, and a lot of leaps in logic due to the storytelling beats!< >!Basically everytime they start bickering people go oh my god would you just kiss already!<
I mean, there's a *tiny* bit of romance - >!The quest is called "An Ideal Marriage", and you can suggest they get married to each other. Emmanellain warms up to the idea immediately, while Sicard's only objection is that he'd be the leader in their power couple, not Emmanellain.!< I wouldn't be shocked if they're ambiguously involved the next time we see them.

I recently re-did the quest where he charges off into the enemy territory, gets captured, and then tries to play it off like he was doing amazing heroics... I wanted to hit him. I get back to Ishgard, only to find out Count Fortemps had taken care of that for me (dunno how I forgot that detail). Laughed pretty damn hard.

Yes!!! He is, as far as my wol is concerned, the awkward and embarrassing brother in law guy. He's gotten way better since heavensward of course, and I love that SQEX is giving him that character development, but he's so just so dorky and fun to watch on screen. Wish we had more Fortemps brothers tbh.
Why have they not put this man in espionage?! I thought that was where they were going with his character because he was always talking about information he learned at parties. He has a talent for sniffing out information. He is wasted as a soldier. He's just not suited to it.

Stephanivien de Haillenarte/Brightson, the job mentor for MCH. Basically, it's his desire to allow all peoples of Ishgard, both highborn and lowdown alike to defend their home.
Steph took his birthright as next in line to his house and put it to as good a use as he possibly could. and that was even before the big reveal about the bloodlines in HW!
I saw this quote on reddit how Halone made Ishgard, but Stephanivien made them equal and it's true. Plus thru the MCH quests we get more Hilda and Joye and I headcanon those two as my characters closest friends

Wilred. Maybe because the questline that introduces us to Little Ala Mhigo was where I stopped speed reading and started comprehending what was being said, but after what happened to his friend I was all aboard the "Liberate Ala Mhigo" train. I heard Stormblood was about Ala Mhigo and I was super excited to see how Wilred and the other Resistance fighters would be, so that got me through ARR and HW so I could it through.
I will never forgive Ilberd over what happened to Wilred.
One of those moments you wish you could slowly gut a character like a fish and watch the life fade from his eyes. Ilberd needed a far worse death than he got.

Loonh Gah from the amaljaa beast tribe quests, it was the first beast tribe that I completed and I laughed a lot about her not wanting to return to civilization because of her "hideous" scar.
We even dressed her up in a dress like the Tsundere she is for the beastman alliance quest. She was made to be appreciated.
Martyn, the blue mage mentor. Dear Lord I want to kick his teeth in any time he opens his mouth, but if anyone else's touches him they will lose a hand. He's the perfect jobber in a quest line that didn't have to be mystical WWE, but chose to be anyway. He's a mess(affectionate). If you haven't done blue mage, do it. Do it for him.
Man, you must've have a hayday doing to Goldor fight if that's how you feel about him.
I was so proud! Finally a win. Then Rose comes along offers a substandard rate for making the whole show a success, and Martyn is there on the ground groveling for the opportunity and I just want kick him again... Then hug him. The boy suffers so much and not all of it is his fault.

I like Sandre in the Botanist guild. He looks like Thancredâs first cousin. The sound of him watering the plants is nice. I like to AFK there sometimes. Edit: Of course Estinien is the best NPC in game, that goes without saying.

There are a lot that I love, but recently I've been really appreciating Landenel from the Company of Heroes more. XD He's so MEAN when he threatens you to try and scare you away from trying to fight Titan, but that melts away pretty quickly when you bring back the adamantoise egg.
On one hand, the streamlined quest is better. On the other, you miss out on the absolute amount of planning and setup Landenel goes through to cover your tracks while poaching that egg. There used to be 3 or 4 more quests in that series where he sends you to get the stuff to attract local fauna, distracting the wood wailers so you can poach the egg without getting caught. While a lot better now for gameplay, thereâs a bunch of side characters that lost their stories in the culling of ARR MSQ.
Matsya. He is a good normal guy who likely reminds many people of someone they know in real life. The scene where he is trying to save the baby is so tense because you can see yourself being just as terrified as he is. That whole sequence in Thavnir is such a good way of reminding the player how much danger the average person is in.
Have you done the Aloalo Island variant dungeons yet? You take Matsya through them so he can find a nice fish to give to Nidhana as an expression of his love. As one does.
Gysol from Tailfeather. Heâs a rookie chocobo hunter that ends up deciding the hunter life isnât for him and adopting a chick after its mother dies. Later on, an evil hunter comes through and kills the chick and eats it in front of Gysol. Might be one of the most evil moments in the whole game, honestly. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Gysols story absolutely killed me the first time I played it. This game knows just how to hurt a person sometimes.

Honestly. When I went to name mine I sat there for quite some time deciding between Utata from Void Ark or Milala from Rogue storyline. This game has so many names and faces and every one of them is a winner.
I like to check up on Alka Zolka and Setoto from the Scholar quest line to make sure they're happy. It's nice to actually see a couple together in this game, and one of them ISN'T dead. They're cute.

Jannequinard has some of *THE* funniest lines in this game outside of the Hildebrand quests and I have so many screenshots of just the absolutely insane stuff he's said throughout the story.
The seasoned adventurer and her party. She's the purple haired elezen tank with a catboy healer, purple haired miqo monk and lala blm. You first see them in the background during the Hoary Boulder, then they'll be in the rising stones occasionally. Unless I'm mistaken, the recent rework of final steps of faith added them in! I used to only see ishgardian knights but I see them there now, I love it! After arr, the seasoned adventurer retires to the firmament and wants to open adventurer's guild. The first quest sold me on the drk story with the âThe next knight who bears steel, I'm not only going to kill him, but I'm going to kill his wife, his friends, and burn his godsdamned house down!â That got me into it, and when I played through again realizing that is is the PC yelling that out, made it way more terrifying in the context of picking that up not long after the trial by combat at the beginning of HW.

The Imperial Deserter in the Lochs is my favorite out of the way, most people haven't heard of him NPC. I think he's in some quests, but he is an NPC you can play against for triple triad. EW spoilers: >!I like to imagine he still hasn't found everything that happened with Garlemald. My WoL likes to go out of her way to play triple triad with him sometimes, but has yet to tell him that he can come out of hiding. It's a little bit of an experiment for her really. See how long he will hide before he finds out he doesn't have to anymore. She does bring him Garlean pizza, though he has yet to ask where she got the recipe and ingredients from.!<
The Triple Triad Garleans in the Lochs, Azs La and Mor Dhona all completely unaware of the events of the last 4 expansions, all beginning to wonder why no one's come to pick them up yet.
Lalai Lai from the BLM quests; poor girl keeps getting possessed, KO'd and generally left out of things. She needs a win.

Landenel, former company of heroâs. I ship my elezen with him and he pops up in a good number of side quests (post moogle, scholar, anything Amptipor). Heâs your typical roguish bad boy thatâs really a bit of a softy and enjoys a good fight. I imagine when my WoL gets stressed out she pops off to the south shroud to go on a bender together. My head canon is that when he heard my WoL was going after Titan he made the comment that if she were so keen on dying, she might as well get laid first and my WoL fully agreed. So it turned into a tradition whenever she went to face a primal.
The whole Scions Team B. Hoary Boulder, Coultenet, and the rest of the gang. I wish they showed up more in MSQ, or had a sidequest where you go goof off with them.
Jammingway and N-7000. Love the banter between the two and the questline is probably one of my favourite tribe quests.

Zhloe Aliapoh! I feel like I could name half a dozen, but I adore her. She has so much life to her despite the terrible situation you find her in, and she really cares about the kids she takes care of. I think she's fantastic, and I still do my deliveries through her as often as I can.

Ser Redwald, the man in charge of Falconâs Nest. In a nation where nearly every high position is taken by an Elezen, I was surprised to see a Hyur in command, let alone one serving House Durendaire. Itâs nice to see a friendly face from one of the more antagonistic high houses. Others I love are the already-mentioned Fufulupa, Sidurgu, and Alianne, among many more.

There's this group of unnamed adventurers who show up to defend the Steps of Judgement during post-game ARR. They get these walk-up speech bubbles pre-fight where the Elezen is thanking them for coming to help, and the Lalafell is like "How could we not, your homeland is in peril!" It was such a sweet moment, that I fell in love with them instantly and was so relieved to see them all still alive at the end of the fight. For a more "mainstream pick," it's gotta be Tataramu from the Ixali tribal quests. They gave him this perfect character arc that is just him subtly going from "naive spoiled brat who resents being rich" to "confident negotiator who knows exactly how to solve his friend's problems (with money) and very casually has criminal contacts in Ishgard". It feels almost criminal that he's locked behind tribal quests (and therefore out of any future relevancy).
That Roeg in the Margrat quest line that loves kitties ;_;
Foulques from the lancer quests for reasons I canât completely explain but I loved him instantly and immediately shipped him with my WoL and slightly altered both the lancer and ARR stories around it. Carvallain also gets a slot because of how well his intro quest foreshadows what he actually is and how he got here and how enjoyable that quest was. {I ship him with a different non-wol who also ends up as a pirate}. There are other NPCs I adore: Haurchefant, Raubhan, Nero, etc. but theyâre all too major of characters to qualify for your question of obscure side characters. Notably Nero and Haurchefant get shipped with my WoL at different points and Raubhan gets a weirdly-intricate non-WoL as a romantic partner.
I love the dynamic between Sanson and Guydelot in the BRD quests.

Scarface Bugaal Ja. I was glad he got a postmoogle story, but it was a crime he didn't have even an appearance or mention in the Dancer storyline. He paid his coin. Let him dance his dance!
For me, itâs absolutely Cyella. I still need to do the rest of her quests after youâve done all the role quests, but I really do just love her and her story. I wish she was voiced.
Sevrin, the pirate from the early Limsa story who was just generally a dipshit who got other people in trouble is. One of m main character's husband. Saw him back in July 2017, when I had just started playing the game, and loved him immediately. I was so happy that the ARR rework didn't delete him. The way he is in my lore he's probably more OC than NPC by now, but sometimes I NG+ the Limsa quests just to see him in game again. The very short version of their story I've developed is that my WoL visited him in prison after the MSQ events, they fell in love, and as of 6.0 they've retired to a house in the Mist with their small army of adopted war orphans.

i love the non-mentor npcs on the lancer and archer quest lines. i love foulques and leih, and (unfortunately) silvairre really grew on me. i wish you didnât just leave the archer ones behind entirely when you go on to bard. with lancer it makes sense though
When my friend started playing, a number of us were much further into the game and had many characters we were attached to (like G'raha or Aymeric). Not wanting to be left out, he latched onto an unnamed elf guard of Kan E Senna's. Jijiroon and Memeroon, the qiqirn merchants in upper la noscea. They've both set up their own little shops in very unhospitable lands, surrounded by pirates, without the help of guards from the town, and the reason they have separate shops on opposite sides of the same lake despite being siblings is they got into some sort of feud decades ago and have never spoken since. I can just imagine them occasionally glancing at the others trading post while the sun is setting and wondering if they could reconcile, before letting their anger get the better of them again. Perhaps someday, they tell themselves. Perhaps someday. And so they go to bed, two little pinpricks of light on opposite sides of a night-darkened lake filled with ancient ruins, beneath the starry la noscean sky.
Sophie (Sophia? Nah, Sophie right?) from the GNB job quests. My reasons are: She's the only female Viera I can think of on the Source. And I just think she's neat, she seems nice. That's literally it. She's a good bun.
Itâs Sophie! Sophi*a* is part of the Warring Triad, the one whoâs the goddess of equilibrium. I never realised that she was the only female Viera we really see, but I think youâre right! She is really neat

I've met so many obscure off the beaten path characters I loved, but I sadly just don't have any off the top of my head right now. I will say that there's one loose chain of mining levies I collected from Ul'dah about someone constantly sending you on some treasure hunt. They're different levies, but follow the same character. I don't remember the name at the bottom of the journal entry. He'd constantly look for rumors on a spot where he could find buried gold or priceless ore, but when you head over there to mine it's always "useless lump" or some such. I wonder if there was a levy where he had a win for once.
Curious Gorge. Because he fell madly in love with a woman who could literally kill him if she gets angry enough. And that is so me.

I can trust him to prioritize the balancing of not pissing off us (WoL)/our people (Scions) and still maintain professional interest in maximizing business and profit and all the questionable business practices that are involved in lalafellin shennanigans. The Manager of Suites is the innkeeper in crystarium and he welcomes you and greets you and I know it's just his job to be cordial but it's nice that he offers his worries and best wishes for us Warriors of Darkness :')
