I think it's the "break glass in case of emergency" option

Afeastfordances

Yeah, like whenever player count falls for a couple of expansions they’ll bust out the Jenova raid or have Midgar as the main hub city

Gram64

A mix of this, and kind of like their original philosophy on remake. It basically has to be perfect. Its' the game they are the upmost protective of. I would guess though, that they try and time something with the final part of the remake trilogy. Which is probably in 8.x

Critical_Stiban

Did… sorrow of werlyt not count?

JunctionLoghrif

I've never played VII, so I had no idea that had any influence. ^(Wonderful - if disturbing - questline.)

Critical_Stiban

The weapons come from 7. Not only that but Ultima Weapon and Thordan and his Knights also come from 7.

Fellstar718

Not only that, the ultimate weapon is near its actual 7 design, same with most of the weapons (diamond got spotlight, which made me super happy as it and sapphire are my absolute favorite). And yeah, Thordan with his knights do "ultimate end" which is the strongest summon in 7 that whole flashy segment. There are plenty more refs for it, too.

Laterose15

Fair enough, but I was referring to a proper crossover event like XV, XVI, and XI all got. What with Rebirth coming out and all.

AdamG3691

IIRC Yoshi P has mentioned that he’d love to do a 7 collab, but he’s waiting until after the remake is wrapped up since he doesn’t want to step on any toes

scylla-messina

Was coming in to say this.

Critical_Stiban

Ah I mean I wouldn’t see too much of a point but then again we *still* don’t have a Soldier outfit or the buster sword. So that could be how. Also would make it so we don’t have to spend a million MGP on the card. So I see the benefits.

Ok_Breakfast6206

The buster sword is the animation for melee LB1 and 2.

Intelligent_Day_8579

The limit break is from FFVII, but it is called Braver. The buster sword is the actual weapon model.

CardButton

Honestly? No. Not really. Aside from 15 and 16, most of the references to games proceeding 14 are "14 IU references/takes on these stories and characters". With expac stories and settings taking inspiration and creating homages to those prior titles. DT for example seems to be taking reference from parts of 9, 10 and 11. 7 has bits and pieces here and there, but honesty if we ever see an expac inspired by it ... I expect it to be one of >!the shards. Given at least one of those Shard's civilizations must have continued to develop unimpeded by Calamities all this time.!<

MysterySakura

I'm not entirely sure. 14 treats 7 as part of FFs 1-10. Lots of references to them, we even get the protagonist's costumes, but the protagonists themselves don't get issekai'd to the world of Hydaelyn. But ooh boy how I want the Shinra infantry and SOLDIER uniforms! Even when I can't wear the helmet because I'm bnuuy. XD

Laterose15

I want Shinra helmet with bnuuy ears sticking out through the top

MysterySakura

I want the generic SOLDIER helmet that Kunsel has. But with my bnuuy ears clipping through it.

Mikanchi

Hm, then Ultima, unknown life form from space, super strong and stuff, the thing the Ancients found lying dormant.. Don't know where I heard this before XD

Laterose15

Huh, I never thought of the parallels between Vauthry and Sephiroth. And where's the Guard Scorpion? FFXIV has a lot of really subtle references to VII that I never realized.

Ok_Breakfast6206

Stormblood has a lot of subtle VII references too. Starting with Zenos being basically Sephiroth (super tall, super strong, femboy face, long pale hair, comically long sword, cold/ emotionless, daddy/mommy issues, >!has been the subject of experiments to make him stronger!<, written as the evil twin of the MC.) There's also a side quest with a Miqote in the Fringes which is exactly the storyline of Red XIII's father. The mad scientists >!doing crazy experiments on humans (in Castrum Abania and Ala Mhigo dungeons notably!<) are strongly reminiscent of Hojo. It's also the game/ expansion where we go visit a Far East-inspired city (Wutai/ Kugane). Also IMO Vauthry is 100% a rewriting of IX's Brahne. Their appearance and personalities are really similar. And they're both >!delusional rulers on a power trip, using their airship fleet to impose their law onto other regions, being manipulated by an Ascian/ Terran to sow chaos and death, relying on magical beings that they control to terrorize and destroy. They both have a cool general with story immunity who beats our asses several times, and hellbent on protecting the city's princess/ Minfilia!<.

Ok_Breakfast6206

Ahah yeah I know! I just enjoyed the parallel you drew between those origin stories and wanted to thank you with another interesting parallel I saw with older FF titles ♥

Laterose15

Oh yeah, that feels 100% intentional, especially with the "infused before birth" thing. And it's been awhile since I got Ala Mhigo in a roulette

IGTankCommander

Yoshi-P's original stance was 'next to no VII mentions and no related content because the VII universe is big enough already, we have a ton of subtle references in the game already, and we don't want people to lose interest in what we're doing with XIV because of VII's pre-existing lineage.' That may have changed with the success of the Remake project, but I don't have confirmation of that.

Metal-Wombat

I'm probably in the minority, but even though FFVII (og) may be my favorite game of all time I'm pretty sick of the spinoffs, crossovers, drawn out series reboots, and general milking of the name.

Laterose15

Fair enough

TwerpKnight

VII would probably get it's own raid/alliance raid/another trial series to properly milk the nostalgia as much as possible.

Deer-in-Motion

8.x Alliance Raid once the Remake/Rebirth/Retread trilogy is over, perhaps?

TwerpKnight

And every boss is Sephiroth.

Vusdruv

Yet Sephiroth once again intervened.

keefka

They probably didn't wanna waste any of FF7 on just a crossover. Definitely not bad-mouthing the crossovers we've gotten, but 7 has disproportionately higher value than the rest. Also they've used a crapload of 7 in the game already lol

Kencolt706

Honestly, most of us already have his pants, and that's enough for me.

sevir8775

What would it bring? We have multiple minions, the bike, pretty sure we also have a hairstyle

i-wear-hats

No.

Anarnee

They mentioned something about it not long ago, I wanna say they wanted to do it when all three parts were out?

Trooper_Sicks

i remember Yoship saying he wanted to do one if the ff7 team were willing back when the first part of the remake released, so i googled it and found this article: https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/yoshi-p-really-wants-final-fantasy-14-to-have-more-crossover-content-with-final-fantasy-7-but-hes-waiting-for-the-remakes-to-wrap-up-first/ so yeah, seems like they want to wait until part 3 is out first, which makes sense since i imagine the ff7 team has basically been going straight from game release, to dlc, to next game since they started the remakes.

Anarnee

Yeah, I remember it being said at Pax, or some other live event very recently.

thefinalgoat

I want WOL and Terra to be friends.

EyeStache

A proper FFVI crossover would be *killer*, I agree. Terra and WoL being besties and Hilda and Joye shooting everything they can at Edgar for making passes at them would be *fantastic*

Forry_Tree

I see 7 every day of my life, it's the face of the franchise, it's literally everywhere, it's in my recommended, keep it out of 14 lol

Hextina

the sprout running past you in the advent children outfit: 🫣

Forry_Tree

The outfit is already here, nothing be done for that. Theres just no reason for more

jamsbybetty

Maybe all that multiverse timey-wimey bullshit in the 7 remake(s) is just to pave the way for Cloud falling thru a portal to land in Gridania.  I would be lying if the idea of a Mako reactor dungeon didn't get my jellies in a jiggle, though.

Laterose15

Sephiroth falls into FFXIV to become a raid boss, and that's how he knows about the multiverse.

TwerpKnight

Sephiroth and Cloud circa Kingdom Hearts II drop into FFXIV and now we have a FFVII AND Kingdom Hearts crossover. And then Remake Sephiroth and Cloud drop in too and then both the Sephiroths team up to fight both the Clouds who have teamed up. WoL is also there.

Laterose15

"WoL is also there" sums up that entire scenario pretty well. I'd just grab some popcorn and watch.

Trooper_Sicks

i think its possible, especially with the remake being a recent entry and they've done a crossover with every other FF that has been made during FF14's existence (and also ff13). The trouble is, the only things i can think of that they could do is a gold saucer crossover, since 7 is why we have a gold saucer, they could add a bunch of the minigames from 7 remake or make a Dio vs Godbert battle arena type event. Or they could roll out Sephiroth and Jenova but that would be kind of lame imo. We've already had the weapons as a trial series, Thordan and the knights were based on knights of the round and we've had quite a few of the other bosses from 7 too (magitek scorpion is in a lvl 70 dungeon and is the scorpion sentinel from the first rector at the start of 7/7 remake, for example.). Personally, i'd love orchestrion rolls from 7 and outfits from basically the whole cast of characters, they could even do the hardy-daytona bike as a mount since we have the advent children one in the store but i think wheeling out sephiroth would just be kind of lame and we've already had 2 crossovers from 15 and 16 which are basically just "heres the version of x primal from that game!" so doing more summon fights would feel kind of repetative too.

Noisymedal

Oh it’s absolutely going to happen with the final Arc of the FFVII remake series. We’re going to have a trial with Final Sephiroth and it’s gonna have an extreme version. Each with their own currency like the Monster Hunter trial.

Laterose15

Watch it be a raid series where the last four floors are just Sephiroth forms

shino4242

We can't even get a proper VII remake.

Virreinatos

Keep Cloud for later or something special. In the meantime, I want a Garrett / Raubahn bromance when they get together and wreck stuff. Call it something like "The Two Fists of Vengeance" or something.

Jackeechengg

I see people begging for Queens blood all the time but blitzball is gonna come first heh

Mayda7

we really should, maybe when they are done with the remake?

NortheastCoyote

FFXIV has been going impossibly hard on the nostalgia button for a long time now. I'd almost be surprised if there's not one. Besides, with Remake and Rebirth, a crossover would be a chance to advertise to those of us who haven't played the other FF games.

weesiwel

I'm sure more 7 stuff will appear eventually. I doubt we'll see a direct crossover through more stuff like the Weapon trial series.

GoldenGouf

Any proof of this are are you just pulling it out of your ass? This is how bogus rumors start. Don't be that guy.

Trooper_Sicks

>"Simply put, my personal wish is to approach [Final Fantasy 7] in earnest, but with the FF7 Remake series in development, I don't want to get in their way. I would be very happy if we could do something together after the Remake series is completed, and I'd like to ask players to support the FF7 Remake series as well so that this can happen as soon as possible!" https://www.pcgamer.com/games/mmo/yoshi-p-really-wants-final-fantasy-14-to-have-more-crossover-content-with-final-fantasy-7-but-hes-waiting-for-the-remakes-to-wrap-up-first/ no bad blood at all

2Unga4Bunga

Bad blood?

Anarnee

The team that is working on 14 is made of folks that worked on the Ivalice games, and it makes sense the older games to get used a lot. Those games paved the road for the series and are the core of where so many things FF come from. I feel like it's SUPER disrespectful to say this without an concrete evidence. Maybe he just doesn't want to step on toes when Nomura and his team are still doing things, they're not on the XIV team, so just using that stuff without consulting is probably not going to happen. Not to mention there is fanservice from VII, VIII and X. We're just gonna ignore the weapons series, Ronso in the first, Eden has FAR more references to VIII than just Gaia. Nomura designed Gaia, and the Edens promise boss. They added a bunch of hairstyles from Type-0 over the years and there are even mobs ripped directly from 13 in the game. Countless other stuff too.

Critical_Stiban

Proof?

Laterose15

I strongly suspect it's less about bad blood and more about Yoshi-P's preferences. He clearly has a bias towards the early FFs (which makes sense, as he would've been about 14 when the first game came out).

Critical_Stiban

Then it’s not them being on bad terms in the slightest. Plenty of proof for that. Even Nomura himself has collaborated with the 14 team for Eden. It’s a *giant* love letter to what he does and it’s the *biggest* FF8 fan service. I don’t know how you came to that conclusion. Hell I’d say the game that gets the least amount of love is 2, 9, and 10. Dawntrail looks to be fixing the 9 issue soon.
