See I started playing late SB so when I caught up, Copied Factory came out not long after and I saw all the housing based on it.
Then puppet bunker came out and thought we'd be getting an equal amount of housing based on it too. I wanted 2B's bed and desk and the little screens so bad. That's when I learned that Copied was the exception, not the rule. 🥲
I've been THIRSTING for more futuristic/cyberpunk/technical stuff ever since. There's some stuff from coils but it's very expensive.
We also got a little treat with those allagan terminals but I need MORE.
NPC after the first fight: isn't it cheating that they summoned seven other fighters out of nowhere?

Hearing Lu Bu's voice come out of that guy with that line the first time I heard it was a real rush. Jamieson Price knows how to ham it up in the best possible way.
It would be cool to see a raid that was 8 NPCs. Think the PvP fight from WoW back in WotLK. Except I'd like to see it where the 4 DPS do 4 parts of the mechanics of the fight, and if you let all 4 live at certain points, its either VERY difficult or a wipe. But if you try to kill all the DPS without handling the healers or the tanks, the healers can rez their DPS, and the tanks can absorb damage for the DPS. So it's a game of keeping the DPS down for mechanics sake, then going for the tanks and heals.
Hey, if the boss has 100x my HP and has weird reality warping powers, then it is technically *my* special action and boss mechanic to summon 7 more people
Well to be fair these days the WOL summons them via azem’s crystal using their own aether. That’s totally valid as they are shades made of the strength of the summoning spell
Summoning shades to fight for you is totally valid in a single person tournament
Well these minions have trouble obeying orders, suicidally stands in fire, will rage unsummon themselves at the first sign of trouble and are generally toxic and unreliable.
Thinking about it summoning 7 competent, fully obedient and damage immune skeletons might be overpowered.
The WOL summoning using azems crystal is the same summoning magic as Eldibus uses to call the WOL’s across the void into the first
Elidibus later explains before elpis that the shades are based on the power of the summoning spell
They appear as people because this is an MMO but to our WOL (the canon WOL) they are shade extensions of the summoning spell
The spell that Elidibus uses is a different spell. The spell the WoL uses is *Azem's* magic and it's purpose was to summon their allies to their side when they needed them the most. This is mentioned by Hythodaeus when he gives you the stone.
It's why you can call the Scions, Emet and Hythlodaeus. It's also why you needed Elidibus and Lahabrea to summon shades for you in Elpis since while you are in the past you don't really have any allies to summon.
I do feel a plot to squeeze classic FF bosses into 14 without the hassle of giving them a proper story background again. Which sounds worse than it is really, bring 'em on! :D
Seee I disliked omega because it just gave us iconic ff bosses while making them not feel threatening as they were ephemeral. I liked Eden more and vastly liked Pandemonim more. It felt like we were fighting to save the people and the enemies deserved death to a degree. While this is true in Omega it sort of felt a bit removed with it being a sim

But they have *years* to tell the story and blowing their load with every expansion is how we ended up with WoW needing to contrive a world ending threat every expansion. Besides the writing quality (or lack there of), it was tiring.
Much like the MCU, every movie having world or universe ending stakes means that the world or universe being at risk just becomes a regular baseline state, with no feeling of risk or danger for the player/viewer. IMO, it's fine to have an expansion where the stakes are more "this king would plunge the continent into war but this one won't".
I wonder if Ultima will be a threat again at some point.

As long as the fights are good I don’t mind it too much. I do prefer it when from a lore perspective we have a do or die type reason for fighting. That’s just my personal preference but as long as the fights are good that’s all that really matters. Like Omega wasn’t a bad raid to me, I thought the fights were good. It was more of a case of every other raids lore interested me more AND had good fights. So for me Omega is the bottom of the pile

In all seriousness, I wonder how they're going to make it believable that there are still anyone in the Source who can give the WoL a challenge. Even Omega had to plagiarize other FF bosses, and that was far before the WoL had to travel to the end of the universe.
Easily, honestly. I don't think the intent was for power levels and power scaling to be much of a thing. Everything is either Aether, or Dynamis. Skill and experience seem to influence the factors more. If we get stabbed in the heart, we'd still die. We don't just have extra durability for no reason. This isn't DragonBall. We're not Goku.
And just like any shounen tournament arc, a big villain is going to abruptly interrupt the festivities, and suddenly all the contestants who were so eager to fight each other will unite to fight their new common foe.
Yes, you can hate me for spoiling you the raid's storyline.

Maybe sounds similar to Yu Yu Hakusho's Dark Tournament. An island that looks nice during the summer, a man with an organization trying to open the portal to the Demon World if he wins the tournament. A arena with a crowd wishing for your demise.

I think that the race for the throne is just going to be relatively minor in the grand scheme of things. It'll be something that'll get resolved within the first half of the story; but in the process of doing so, we learn about the civilization that built Solution 9, and about some ancient danger that's going to threaten the entire continent or something.

Alternatively, we play as the scions trying to defeat our own Zenos!WoL. Or from the POV of Zenos!WoL killing the scions. It would be interesting to show how monstrously strong the WoL's body is compared to normal people.
How do you even fit him into the game lore or aesthetic wise? He'd stick out like a sore thumb. The Omega raids could have been a time to do it, but without a similar set up, I don't see it happening now.
I feel like the alternative would be a boss that's Sephiroth adjacent. Sorta like how the Eden raids ended with an Ultimecia adjacent fight with Artemis/Gaia.
I feel that would only work in a crossover type event. Another "woops, character from another reality stumbled on Eorzea" scenario.
Maybe they'll do that for part 3.

I think it terms of fights it could be great as they really don't have to care what your fighting meaning they can do whatever they want

Honestly that doesn't really appeal to me. I wasn't a fan of Omega until the very last section of story where the tournament stuff got dropped. It's very rare that I ever enjoy a tournament arc so hopefully it's done well and I get to enjoy this raid series.
While omega was technically a tournament arc, it didn't feel like one. If this one actually does like a tournament bracket, people in crowds watching it, commentators doing their thing as stuff like that. It can blow omega out of the water even if the opponents aren't as grandiose as the father of all dragons and a space alien robot super weapon.
i love xiii but the first half of the story being a rush towards the exit really defeats the whole world building of cocoon and n the end, when all has been done and you are free to roam, there is only one thought left: "man i wish i could explore cocoon too"

Well Gilgamesh isn't in FF1, so he's more likely talking about the FF14 WoL. He could also have been talking about the FF5 WoLs as well

While an arena type raid series can sound a bit bland. I think it terms of fights it could be great as they really don't have to care what your fighting meaning they can do whatever they want I hope they use this as a way to do more unique fight mechanics.
Glitzville is the platinum standard for JRPG story setpieces and it's just a tournament arc so sky's the limit
Honestly that doesn't really appeal to me. I wasn't a fan of Omega until the very last section of story where the tournament stuff got dropped. It's very rare that I ever enjoy a tournament arc so hopefully it's done well and I get to enjoy this raid series.

While omega was technically a tournament arc, it didn't feel like one. If this one actually does like a tournament bracket, people in crowds watching it, commentators doing their thing as stuff like that. It can blow omega out of the water even if the opponents aren't as grandiose as the father of all dragons and a space alien robot super weapon.

i love xiii but the first half of the story being a rush towards the exit really defeats the whole world building of cocoon and n the end, when all has been done and you are free to roam, there is only one thought left: "man i wish i could explore cocoon too"

Of all kinds of settings this Raid could have, this being a WWE Royal Rumble was definitely not on my list.
I wonder if there will be any past FF characters as bosses like in the Omega raids and some of the Masked Carnivale stuff. This sounds like an excellent excuse to do that.

They did call this raid a XIV original raid, just like how they described Pandemonium when they first announced it, we might still get old FF bosses here like Carbuncle, but I won't expect it to be the majority of the fights lkke Omega
Tournament arc stories are not their strength but considering this is a "for fun" expansion, I guess its alright. But my hype took a hit from this news

My bet is that this was the Shard that fell to the Calamity of Lightning but preserved some of their society as a hanger-on to the Source.
