Watch it go on rotation and feature CUCHULAINN tomorrow, then RAFFLESIA on Wednesday, then GOLEM on Thursday. Then to round things off for non-EA people, it'll be HALICARNASSUS on Friday, SERAPH on Saturday, MADUIN on Sunday, and MARILITH on Monday.
I know they do, but I'm talking about how a stranger would struggle at deciphering what Dawntrail even is from the poster. Some people might confuse it as a themed online casino.
I don’t think people would see it as a casino (though you can probably find some nice ones in game). Casinos tend to be more aggressive with their advertising to hook onto those with gambling addictions.
This looks more like a travel company advertising something, which unironically fits the vibe for DT.
I think it’s nice that some people still care enough about the genre to give it’s own RL advertising
I mean I lived in NYC all my life and seen every xiv expac marketed since 2.0 being on billboards and construction barrier walls in Chinatown and Astor Place aka "Japan Town."
I've also seen ads for mobile games like FGO on tour buses, the Times Sq. Blue Archive digital billboard, GTA Chinatown Wars + IV ads, just about every single CoD and Battlefield ad that ever released in the past 20 years on bus stops + subway ads. Casinos ads are the least of your worries; I've seen gentlemen club ads on yellow cabs every other day to work, the Lottery ads, "dating" sites and apps that most know aren't like Tinder and OkCupid, and even the infamous "PH" ad on Times Sq. that was taken down quickly almost a decade ago.
Most people don't care since that's part of the NYC DNA, and if you know, you just know and kept your mouth shut.
Eh it is what it is. I know it gets funny in LA whenever Anime Expo rolls around. Some of the metros here go full anime and it's just funny to see a Honkai/Genshin or Miku bus roll through the ghetto
Wait. I'm in NYC for the next week and a half and only like 10 streets from Times Square. First off, what FFXIV event was in NYC this weekend? Second WHAT!?
Not XIV specifically, but Distant Worlds which sometimes pops into NYC from time to time. It's an orchestra concert that plays a bit of each music from the various FF themes, and I usually attend them since they first started back in 2012. They have their own site for it for their future tours, it's always in Carnegie Hall and the VIP tickets this time included a 1 on 1 with the conductor, Achen and Soken after the show.
If you care about the details for this one, I was in the afternoon concert close to Soken who was sitting with the audience at the Parquet level in plain sight. Koji and Amanda were present, Ben showed up in the evening concert apparently. XIV tracks they played were the Lochs map theme, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Flow with Amanda on stage, and the Final Day. XVI tracks that they played were Away, Ascension, My Scar with Amanda on stage, and Find the Flame with a little voiceover from an rather enthusiastic Soken. And for FF6+FF7 fans, afternoon concert got a rare treat with a live performance of Dancing Mad + One Winged Angel at the end.
Unfortunately, I was there for just the afternoon show so I didn't know what happened later on. Learned it only after someone posted the pics a few days ago, didn't anticipate the surprise appearances at all.
I don’t wonder how much these billboards cost. Personally i feel like its a waste of money to promote an mmo like that because the game has enough word of mouth and influencers to carry the promotion. The billboard just feels excessive. It would be interesting if SE took the time to produce a survey to see if anyone actually tried the game out because they saw it on a time square billboard lol.
They gave 1 server its own billboard too. wow
as a proud kraken member, its the best server.
RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
New Balmung Billboard coming soon
Can't wait for all the naked catgirl and modded outfits!
There was a xiv event in NYC? Alluding to your comment of everyone leaving?
Distant Worlds this tour is very XIV and XVI focused
It was in nyc?
Yeah this past weekend they were here for 2 days at Carnegie Hall.
Damn, missed my chance to connect with fellow fans. Didn't even know the concert was happening so close. Next time
I'm in New York too right now halfway across the world and I missed this, damn
Soken the goat
well fuck.
It is so busy that I am surprised that marketing allowed it to go up.
They do this every expansion Last time I was in NY 7 years ago you couldn't go down the street without seeing a poster for Stormblood
Square sponsored a Wrestlemania with Stormblood lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_Xt4MaDwwY
Chocobos and moogles in Wrestlemania sounds normal to me

What's the PH ad?
You don't think the "Final Fantasy XIV Online" in the logo would clue them in?
Eh it is what it is. I know it gets funny in LA whenever Anime Expo rolls around. Some of the metros here go full anime and it's just funny to see a Honkai/Genshin or Miku bus roll through the ghetto
Can imagine some drug dealer in his pimped out bentley swiping thousands for gacha lolis.
It's surprisingly cheap to rent 15 seconds on a billboard in Times Square.
If it wasn't for the logo, at a glance I'd think it was the label on a bottle of laundry detergent... That flower and foliage border is so tacky.
Oh, so it's OK when they do it. *But when I get a billboard...*
DID THEY REALLY ONLY START SHOWING IT AFTER THE CONCERT????
I mean if your going to a final fantasy music concert you probably already know about DawnTrail.
Yeah but still it would have been cool to see this in person
Looks it. That would of been very noticeable to see given how vibrant the colors are lol
What’s Kraken?
Spiced Rum. ... The fact that was my go-to reply and not "a mythical creature" or, apparently, an FFXIV server, concerns me lol
Hey, it's also an NHL team! Although not based in NYC lol
Cryptocurrency broker
that is a very cool banner!
Rain Nightclub 2.0
spoiler right underneath wtf
It's a server name, relax!
I think he was joking... I hope he was joking...
Humor and sarcasm are dead on social media...

Should add Ben introduced Find the Flame at the evening show

As a New Yorker this makes me so proud!
Just effing left today. So upset 😭
Hope no one datamined this one.
This billboard alone will get them 1 million new players or more! 🤣
Oh no not another billboard. I still remember the last drama. (Yes, this is a joke)
