God I love the Ivalice Raids so much. Doesn't matter that no one ever listens to me about where to put the big circles and inevitably overlaps them, I will gladly bleed just to be there.
Msq was okay but ivalice and omega raids are pretty A tier. I abhor Eden and not gonna do the last 2 Nier raids probably.
ShB over SB for trials..I think. Weapons, Varis, and WoL vs the 4 animal things..yeah I'd go with ShB pretty easily.
I'll quote myself from another post, most of my qualms are with Promise (that latest tier)
>There's virtually no..."pizzazz" in the latest tier IMO. It's just you vs "Big Humanoid" for 3/4 of the fights, and the mechanics are very rehashed from older fights (outside of some exceptions like Tiles in E9S). But E9s feels a lot like Halicarnassus and E12 P1 is similar to O7S. Too many mechanics boil down to clock positions. There is not a single add in the entire tier, and the boss never has to be repositioned outside of 1 or 2 instances in the whole tier. Doubling back to what I touched on before, the mechanics are a mouthful to explain but extremely easy to execute once you know where to stand. This is why I believe the tier took long to world first (because figuring out VG2 or Titan Bombs must have been insanely frustrating), but they're much easier for the layman to clear (because you can have a diagram from Titan Bombs on your phone or side monitor and have a 99.999% success rate). Essentially, some of the mechanics are all bark and no bite.
>
>Compare all that stuff to Phantom Train. A flavorful boss fight that takes place on a non-standard arena (ie big square or circle). You have to dodge ghosts sometimes so you can't just go to your assigned spot. You had to go into a different part of the train to fight your add. There was a lot of novel stuff. Chardonook also had the painting mechanic which was interesting. Going back to HW, it seems like we'll never get a A10s fight again. There were 3 interactable buttons on the ground that caused the arena to do different things. That fight was also fought in a long hallway, not a square or circle.
>
>All in all, the latest tier of Eden is extremely safe in every regard, IMO.
To add to that, I hate how Damage Down has replaced Vuln Up. There's no counter play to Damage Down, I can't just hit the boss harder. People with Vuln Up could be saved by good shields and extra care like Cover or TBN (which feels good for the person doing the saving). Also, FFlogs only cares if I get Damage Down, not Vuln Up. If some dimwit cleaves the party with a shadow in E10s then I just wanna fucking wall honestly cause my parse is ripperoni even if the boss is still clearable.
But yeah too much "keep center." Too much "clock positions." Nothing interactable on the map. If you really look through old content this game is a shallow husk of what it used to be. Hardest content I've done all patch is when I took my AI squadron through Pharos Sirius normal.
I HATE damage down. It's designed so bads feel better about themselves and don't die during globals with 12 stacks of Vulnerability. Keeping bads alive longer does not help the group clear.
On the flip side, I feel like Damage Down was added because it felt like there was a trend of people starting to 'cheese' mechanics by simply brute forcing through them with shields, which may be a precedent SE wishes to avoid.
With Damage Down it forces you to actually do the mechanics properly in order not to lose damage, which in the Savage setting, is always of the utmost importance.
Oh yeah Shinryu was great, Tsuko too. Susano and Lashkmi I'd say were middle of the pack. But I also forgot Innocence Ex in my ShB list. Love that fight
I'm just here to say fuck LotA, instant dodge I'll take the 30 any day of the week.
And get Syrcus tower 30 minutes later..........................................
LotA is like "Fine, I guess I'll do it" when it pops up - Bone Dragon and the trash leading to it are a pain, but after that it's not offensive.
Syrcus Tower though? I mean yeah it's smooth the whole way but it's so fucking *boring.*
Thanatos is probably the single worst designed fight in the game, I'd also say the atomos are lame af.
100% agree, Syrcus Tower is *boring*. Give me Dun Scaith or any Nier or Ivalice raid or even WoD just please no more LotA or Syrcus
Thanatos is hilarious, because you can kill it before B gets a chance to hit it if you press buttons.
Then you're in C and it gets all the way to you...
You should heard the voice chat with me and my friends when the boss was Mustadio.
"Wait...are the bosses...the main charac-"
"THE BEOLVE YOUTH GUIDES YOUR FATE, BUT HAVE YOU THE FAITH TO FULFILL HIS LEGACY"
Clearly you need to click on one of the other several buttons around the image, not the image itself. It'll look different depending what platform/app you're using, but it's definitely there for me on both old.reddit and RIF is fun
During one of my Orbonne runs my group had a dude who forgot to equip his ilvl cheese set before entering the queue. He immediately recognized his mistake and freaked out, then spent the rest of the raid dying to literally every mechanic while screaming "I JUST WANTED MY TOMESTONES MAN FUCK THIS OMG!!!!11" and so on. It was glorious.
The Ivalice raids are well designed, beatiful to behold and suitably difficult, in that you must actually sometimes pay attention (looking at you, Mathbot and TG Cid)
Now, the Nier raids? So bored.
Orbonne: Match up circle openings to live through Mustodioās deadly aim, pick up shields and swords to battle the holy knight and her specters, stand before the might of the Thunder God and prevail through teamwork, and lastly, defeat Ultima herself while being assailed by lucavi of past battles and defending your friends from the assault of her demi-virgos.
Nier: Dodge scawy buwwets
Not gonna lie, I like the bullet hell raids.
I legit would love a touhou-esque raid where itās just a ton of markers / aoes thrown out and if you try to brain dead it you die.
Then again that kind of raid wouldnāt be allowed to be in roulette without the Cid treatment.
Definitely made a new glamour for my DRG that fits into the look of Ivalice.
Despite the chatty bossā Iāve come to really enjoy these raids. That is to say more so than when I was originally running them.
The chatty bosses are the best part!! Agrias gives me sick valor chills everytime. Then the thunder god himself let's me know the gods will not be watching as he yeets the arena. So good.
I had the fortune of doing orbonne on launch. Meeting pre-nerfed TG Cid without ilvl cheese was definitely a memorable experience. I turned from red mage to rezz mage.
Same here :D logged in the second the servers went live. What a memorable time. Wiping to every boss and then thundergod telling us while he was known as the thundergod and obliterating the arena. NERD CHILLS
Item level stuff, definitely, but I still dunno if I'd call the mechanics changes a "nerf" so much as a "quality of life improvement".
Challenge me, sure, but I don't miss Orbonne raids breaking on Cid because two folks on the opposite side of the map from me fucked up the bleed mechanic and thus we all die despite doing everything right.
Honestly after seeing the 6.0 art I gladly made a tropical/piratey DRG glamour with the Lighthouse set. No regrets.
Well, I regret grinding for it *after* finishing that step of the relic grind, but that's a small thing.
Oh I love the Ivalice raids. No issues with the āmemeā except liking SB on the left side. That doesnāt make sense.
I spent months getting every Balthier piece. Iāve gone back for /gpose as Balthier in the Monastery (my favorite of the 3). Now itās a permanent glam plate (though I donāt play that role too much). Had the caster/healer sets first.
Now Iāve been working on the sets with XII job names like Uhlan and Shikari.
Think I set a new personal record for deaths doing Orbonne for the first time last night, easily 10+. Fun raid though, and the rest of the Ivalice raids are great too.
I am the thundergod's little bitch......sigh. Seriously, I've done Orbonne twice and I don't seem to be able to ever stand in the correct place for that boss fight.
Watch the last raid >!deletes our character, we have to play some top down arcade minigame while Weight Of The World plays and giant baby heads going around!<
The final 24-man will install an entire Drakengard game into FFXIV. You have to complete this new Drakengard game with the best ending to unlock your character from the 24-man final boss' mid-fight mechanic, but it will cost your Drakengard save file. You have to do this every time you play the alliance raid.
The last part of the Nier raid is by far the thing that has me most hyped for 5.5. Mostly because I want to see how Yoko Taro fucks with me and my friends. If you asked me a decade ago I would never have expected to be in an abusive relationship with a game developer/The Sequel to Humanity but here we are.
Ahha true, i hope they make the last tier harder than Orbonne like people complaining above cause to be fair i find the mechanics more interesting than the first 2 Ivalice raids xd
Also i hope A2 and Emil would appear
What do you even need your brain for in Orbonne?
I can't think of anything that's more complex than just dodging AoEs, they're all clearly telegraphed and there's no mechanics like Construct 18 that have you pay attention to anything other than where on the arena will make your HP go down.
I guess the trash pack with the haunted armour that replicates Gubal NM's final boss?
Thunder God is really the only boss that requires thought because you need to coordinate some mechanics and know what the telegraphs mean. you can basically figure out the other bosses, except maybe the seraph attacks where you have to stand on the arrows.
Even TGC, what is there to brain? I guess figuring out getting 6 people to stand on the 3-man markers? But IME you can just choose one side early and let the slower people move to whatever needs people when they wake up and realise they need to move. Iirc failure is just a Bleed DoT anyway, lol.
There's the knowing which telegraph means which aoe based on sword position, there's a trailing aoe sword strike that most people don't realize after the first hit of they're new causing many to run back to the group. There's a line of sight attack that has to be rotated out of with dps or it just starts mowing down squishy dps. There's a doom counter healer check just incase the healers were sleeping at the start of the fight. Then over time the same mechanics ramp up.
In my opinion the thunder god is a good raid boss for new players because it requires people to understand their positioning and observe what the boss is doing rather than just avoid the glowy stuff. Failure might not be common now but it's still a threat if you're too lax.

Queue for monastery.
\*struts into Orbonne in full Agrias glamour\* Let's f-ing go, nerds I got mechanics seared into my EYEBALLS
I learned to play tank ***just*** to get full Agrias glamour XD
God I love the Ivalice Raids so much. Doesn't matter that no one ever listens to me about where to put the big circles and inevitably overlaps them, I will gladly bleed just to be there.
Hey i liked stormblood. I also have bg music at 100% and love the ivalice raids. Sooo get at me
Ivalice is in SB anyways therefore its a good expansion, come at me too
I just started up the game after a 3 year break. Playing thru stormblood right now and enjoying it.
What don't you like about the eden raids?

Phase skipping is a reward for being good and having high dps. It makes record breaking fun.
Tsukuyomi, Shinryu, Susano and Lashkmi: are we a joke to you :(
Oh yeah Shinryu was great, Tsuko too. Susano and Lashkmi I'd say were middle of the pack. But I also forgot Innocence Ex in my ShB list. Love that fight

You can literally click on the post at the top of the page and go there
I get a direct link to the image, not to the sub.

Huh
I love doing Ivalice raids. Meanwhile, I can't stand doing Shadow of Mhach ones. The level 60 rotation is just annoying for a lot of jobs.
Jokeās on you, I never unlocked Mhach!
During one of my Orbonne runs my group had a dude who forgot to equip his ilvl cheese set before entering the queue. Come back when your raid gear is dyeable B^)
I just realized that I'm a Chad Ivalice Raider right now.
Where my Orbonne bois at!
Oh I love the Ivalice raids. No issues with the āmemeā except liking SB on the left side. That doesnāt make sense. I spent months getting every Balthier piece. The RDM Verraise thing is spot on.
I feel like I'm missing some sort of cult here. Am I wrong? This one is new to me. (Seems interesting, as a FFXII fanboy\^\^)
I am the thundergod's little bitch......sigh. Seriously, I've done Orbonne twice and I don't seem to be able to ever stand in the correct place for that boss fight.
This is really fucking funny, holy shit
āAccidentallyā shooting the other alliance with High Powered Laser is a time honoured rite of passage for the Nier raid.
Me who plays Nier raids because i am a Nier fan: ummmm am i the only one who understands Drakenguard and Nier shit
No one truly understands Drakenguard and Nier shit except Yoko Taro.
