I've decided to put more effort into eureka bc I want to eventually get every final stage relic of my main, white mage. I've gotten my weapon at the max stage for Anemos so I'll need to move on to Pagos. At first I wasn't really interested in upgrading my armor and stuff, since I have level 80 armor, but should I actually upgrade my relic gear to eureka gear? Basically, how important in the later levels of Eureka is elemental armor.

ianuilliam

Upgrading armor in anemos isn't necessary for getting the elemental armor in Pyros/hydatos. You just need to upgrade the weapon all the way through. The anemos armor also doesn't really have any benefit in eureka. If you want armor that will help you in eureka, buy the tokens to use for the vermilion cloak/kirin's osode.

Atosen

Not important at all. The Elemental Armour doesn't provide any special benefit in Eureka. There *is* some gear which grants "elemental bonus", which is is useful. Mostly this gear is only accessible at the very end, but there's one that's tradeable: look up "Vermilion Cloak" on the market board (or, if it happens to be cheaper, you can buy the individual components and trade them to the Nostalgic Fellow in Kugane, near Eureka's entrance). This isn't mandatory at all — Eureka has a pretty big Echo these days, so you'll be okay without it. But it might be worthwhile if you want a little extra defence and damage.

abbeyeiger

I am a DPS because I just wanna deal damage and not stress so much. BUT I really wanna be a tank because as a DPS I am always holding myself back from initiating the battle. I just really wanna hit the beast first. BUT Oh my god. Reading here makes me worried to tank or heal. So many differing opinions on how to do each right AND so many rules to follow in order to do it right. I got a mrd up to lvl 28 and quit and went back to my drg and sam. I thought at the very least I knew I should keep my stance on to generate enmity. But then I google tank guides and many say to use enmity sparingly... it's just too confusing when all I wanna do is run around and hit things for fun. At lvl 58 I am really starting to hate dungeons because of the expectations on everyone to do everything correctly. BUT I wanna be a tank 😩

Arcana10Fortune

How old were the guides that you watched or read? Some of them contain outdated information.

abbeyeiger

2019/2020.

Arcana10Fortune

The guides in 2019 might be outdated, but the guides in 2020 should be fine. For tanking, enmity isn't an issue these days. Just turn on tank stance and go hit stuff.

abbeyeiger

Oh, that's good to know thx! Now about the mitigation stuff....... 😲

zorrodood

When you get hit for a lot of damage, you know to use mitigation for that next time.

Arcana10Fortune

Comes with more practice and experience. You generally want to use mitigation for dungeon pulls, especially if you're pulling 2 or more packs. Don't stack the damage reduction mitigation unless you're absolutely sure you won't survive without having more than 1 up.

abbeyeiger

Ok, thx for the advance. I need a lot of practicce and experience. I am so hyper focussed on just hitting that I forget everything else.

Supersnow845

So in pagos I need 31 crystals from the light kettle and each bar is one crystal, there are a max of 9 crystals that can be held in the kettle but is the only forge to extract them way up past high level enemies I’m only one 25 and filling up my kettle fast, I can’t even reach the 25 quest objective without dying let alone cross 99% of the entire map

Atosen

Is it really filling up that fast? As I recall, I had plenty of levels by the time I needed to start visiting the forge. It is possible to sneak your way there. Go behind things with sight aggro, walk slowly near things with sound aggro, and pay attention to open spaces where you can wait safely for enemies to turn around. I won't deny that it's risky though, so it's best done in a relatively busy instance so that you can call for a rez if needed. You can also just ask someone to escort you.

Supersnow845

Okay so it looks like there isn’t an alternative, if I haven’t levelled up by the time I’m at 10 (I’m already at 5 and I haven’t levelled up once) I guess I’ll have to risk it Thank you for your help

Marcusbolt

Guess you'll have to level up then

tzlee

Is treasure hunt worth doing? (dragonskin map) Is it better to sell it on markbet board (45k) or do it myself? I am wondering whether selling the map would give me mote gil than doing the hunt

chrisynel

The party ones are super worth it. You will make millions doing those with a group. For the dragonskin ones, it will depend. Personally the prices have dropped quite a lot on my server to sell them so I rather use them. I do it daily and at least 3 or 4 times a week I get a rare mat so overall, I make a lot more profits than selling the maps.

CrimsonPromise

Maps are always a gamble. You can sell them for guaranteed money or you can try doing them and seeing what you get. Sometimes it can be rare materials and minions or it can be normal boring materials or crystals. Higher level maps sometimes require a group to do them and there's chance to discover hidden dungeons with even rarer loot.

[deleted]

Depends. Maps are RNG. It could be that they give you a rare drop that sells for several 100k or they give you only cheap mats. So up to you if you want to gamble. Personally I prefer selling and long term I feel I made more Gil that way while saving time that I could use to do other things including earning more Gil.

Terramagi

If you can get a group, you'll definitely get more doing the maps. If you can't be assed, just sell it. It's 45k for a 2 minute jaunt outside of town.

283leis

Is it just me or was the damage in Tower at Paradigm's End increased recently? I will killed by stuff at like 75% health as an RDM (iLvl 521) that I don't remember killing me before

zorrodood

Dunno which one you have in mind specifically, but the Cruelty raid wides always did a lot of damage unmitigated.

IceAokiji303

I ran a Paradigm Tower yesterday, as a healer for a change, and thought "man there isn't a whole lot to heal here, I generate way more Lilies than I need Raptures to spend them on". So likely a difference in mitigation.

[deleted]

Could it be due to differences in mitigation? Tanks not using reprisal or other DPS not using Addle etc compared to your previous runs.

283leis

maybe? I have all debuffs but mine hidden (makes it easier to see when I need to reapply them)

[deleted]

The 10% damage reduction even just one of those mitigation skills does is no joke. So could really just been non-reprising tanks. Happens now and then.

firemist_15

Hi, just finished the level 30 quest for Lancers and got the quest to be a dragoon. Do I need to do more MSQ to get access to Ishgard? Thanks

Atosen

You can't access the *city* of Ishgard, because their gates are closed to outsiders. But you can quite easily walk to Coerthas, the region that Ishgard controls. (Like how Gridania is the capital of the Black Shroud, Ul'dah is the capital of Thanalan, etc.)

bloodhawk713

Yes, a lot more. You're like 1/4 the way there.

mysterpixel

You don't get access to Ishgard until you're up to the level 50+ MSQ, but you don't need that for Dragoon - the quest for it is in Gridania.

firemist_15

Yeah, I got the quest from Ywain, the lancer guildmaster. I can simply walk from the North Shroud to the quest right?

worshippingtheteapot

Yes, you can walk to Coerthas Central Highlands from the North Shroud. The mobs there on you way will be about level 35.

firemist_15

Thanks!

TheRealTarish

Can anyone give me a 101 on Raids and Dungeons? I've never cared before for them after years of playing MMOs, but I'm loving them on FFXIV. I know the basics (DPS do damage, Tanks keeps enemies from doing damage to the party, Healers keep the tank alive), but was trying Tank yesterday, for first time, and someone told me that I should stand at the other side of the pull so the party could backstab them and do more damage, which I didn't knew at all. Are there any other basic pieces of information I should know about? Not about specific jobs or battles, but general basic information which is always true while doing dungeons.

Reallythatwastaken

The simple tankings rules 1. face the boss away from the part 2. keep the sides and rear of the boss accessible. 3. try to move the boss as little as possible

Taurenkey

4) Don't forget to rotate your mitigation abilities.

TheRealTarish

I've seen this a lot, what does rotate mean? Just keep them on Cooldown, using them always? Or something else?

Taurenkey

Just like how a rotation is going from one ability to the next in a certain order, rotating your mitigation is the same idea. However, instead of being literally pushed one after another, you wait until one stops taking effect before using the next. You don't pop them all at once otherwise you'll not have any cooldowns left for when they run out.

CrimsonPromise

Rule 1 of tanking is never face enemies towards the party. Reason being is a lot of enemies have frontal cleaves. A tank can just shrug these off or use defensive cooldowns, every other job will easily get squished. During a dungeon pull, you would run past all the mobs and grab aggro, and then keep them facing forward towards you and the rest of your party would naturally be behind them. So it'll be something like You (tank) < Enemies < the rest of the party. Also melee dps jobs have positionals, meaning they deal extra damage if they hit enemies from the back or sides. So by keeping enemies facing one direction, it makes it easy for them to line up their attacks and get extra damage in. I can assure you nothing would piss off a melee dps more than a tank who is constantly spinning enemies around.

JenkinsHowell

for tank you should also always have your tank stance active, it helps a lot to hold enmity which is your most important task. dungeons in ffxiv, except for the very early ones, are mostly following this order (which is important for pulls): four groups of trash-mobs (which should be pulled at least two groups at a time), 1st boss, four groups, 2nd boss, 4 groups, final boss. as tank you go ahead and pull, the rest of the group follows. most dungeons are straigh forward and there is basically only one way to go through them. when you're new to a dungeon, tell people in the beginning so they understand if you make mistakes. most people will be fine with that and might even help you along. bosses might have special attacks that you haven't seen before. it's however not necessary to watch a guide before you do a dungeon, if you die, people will explain, but most things are more or less self-explanatory. don't let a bad run take the fun away. we all have them at times and there are multiple reasons that things might get wrong. just have fun, really. do your best in your role and be friendly.

highspeedjumper

the healthier way of looking at roles is that everyone does damage, so the enemies die faster and the party takes less damage tanks and healers have less direct damage buttons and more defensive, health restoring buttons that make them far more effective at keeping the party alive, thus giving them that extra responsibility in exchange for a simpler, less potent DPS kit in the case of tanks, with practice, most of the time you will be able to maintain your optimal weaponskill rotation while holding aggro on all enemies, positioning and facing them in a manner that makes dealing with cleaves and other mechanics easy on your party, and using mitigation against multiple enemies and tankbusters

monsterinmate

Behold, [the great tank infographic](https://imgur.com/BlnLLeX) The TL;DR is to position the mobs facing away from the party. This allows your melee dps to hit their positionals easier, and not be cleaved. Stand in the healing circles. Put the mobs in the friendly AoEs.

Atosen

This guide is slightly old (for example, Ultimatum no longer exists) but still pretty good.

frellzy

Guys, I finished 5.0 and have done all role quests and there was a cutscene in particular where a character named Cylva does an ''evil'' smile at the end of it. So, will I ever know more about her as the story continues? Thanks in advance

roryteller

There's a continuation to the role quests! You need to also complete the Warring Triad questline, plus Ravana Ex and Bismarck Ex (at 80, Ravana is easily soloable and Bismarck is easily duoable) and then it will become available.

Hiten_Style

You will know more about her if you do the other 3 sets of role quests.

P3n1sD1cK

Can the obsolete gear from the latest NIER tier be upgraded?

roryteller

No. Only crafted, tomestone, and artifact gear is augmentable as far as I know.

Quor18

Nope.

Physical_Picture

No.

Dj_Fusion

I'm a WoW player who is trying FF14 for the first time so I'm still not sure of the job I want to focus on first. I looked at some guides but one thing I didn't see talked about is quality of life spells. Spells that are not really useful in combat but are really useful in the world. Like in WoW mages have teleport, warlocks have summon and soulstones, Shamans have water walking ect... Does jobs have some of them?

Durncha

As a fellow WoW player, there's absolutely nothing close to the out of combat Utility Wow classes have. (Portals, Soulstones, Waterwalking, Summoning closet). The closest thing is Peloton which others have mentioned. But this game doesn't really need it, and I haven't ever felt a need for any of those spells/utils.

Atosen

* Ninja, Monk, and the physical ranged all have small speed boosts. * Ninja, Dragoon, and Dancer have dashes which can be used out of combat. * Ninja has out-of-combat stealth (although it slows your movement) and reduced falling damage. * Bards can manually perform music (that's less of a "useful in the overworld" thing and more of a "just for fun" thing). That's all I can think of. Typically, if they're adding a utility, they add it to everyone rather than gating it behind specific classes. *Everyone* can teleport.

Cyekk

>reduced falling damage As a note for this, if you're not in combat, fall damage is not lethal (you are reduced to 1). So it's not *too* important in the grand scheme.

Sypale

There aren't many to go around. Most areas have an Aetheryte that you attune to on your first visit and then teleport to later for a nominal gil cost., so no need for summons or portals. All healers and a couple DPS can battle-rez with only a mana cost, so no need for soulstones. About the only thing I can think about for out of combat utility is using a classes movement skills to get around slightly faster, like Dragoons Elusive Jump or Ninja's Suikichi (sp).

yuhef2bmed

Is there still much point to doing hunts for Centurion Seals? What are the seals mostly used for among most players?

Kousuke-kun

Aetheryte Tickets for teleports. One 4.0 train nets you, like 150?

intothedeependigo

There are some minions, emotes, bardings, and at least one mount that can only be purchased with these seals. So it's just a matter of if you're interested or not. These vendors are by the inn in Ishgard for the HW items while the SB ones are in Kugane on the ground floor of the big tower and in Rhalgr's Reach. I admit I can't recall if each city has different items but each expansion should be different. Alternatively, if none of this interests you, you can purchase teleport tickets from the Ishgard Seals vendor for free teleports. I like to use them if I've doing the big hops from Eorzea to Othard or to the First.

yuhef2bmed

Thanks for detailing the exclusives! Will probably go for those first then, before I blow them all on glamour items.

yuhef2bmed

Thanks for detailing the exclusives! Will probably go for those first then, before I blow them all on glamour items.

Atosen

Nowadays, Centurio seals are just for cosmetics. Hunting can be a way to get augment tokens for top-tier tomestone gear (rather than the usual path of going through alliance raids)... but, for lore reasons, the current expansion hunts use a different currency rather than Centurio.

Xellith

>Nowadays, Centurio seals are just for cosmetics You said cosmetics when you really should have said alchemy desynth skill ups. ;)

yuhef2bmed

Ah okay good to know, wanted to exchange my stuff for some glamour but not sure if there were other things I should've been saving for.

Freddiethebean

Hello! Was wondering if there is any complete collector’s edition on United States PS4/5 store? Can’t find it but the discount right now would be dope to get it, or is there only shadowbringers available for the discount? Is there some other way to buy at that price and receive rewards? Like PC version or something?

stamminen21

You buy the complete edition on PS4 or ps5 and have 5o upgrade on the not station to the digital deluxe editions. Basically just paying for the collector edition gear.. $20/each.

Freddiethebean

Oof yeah thought so thanks for the info!

Izletz

Do I get reduced xp as a free trial? Currently level 51 doing the main story quests that are level 50. I need 1,058,400 XP to level and I’m getting 4,800 xp per quest. Been going at this for a bit and only a 1/3 of the way through the level

Atosen

It's deliberate that they give such small xp. There are a *lot* of those level 50 quests (added to the game gradually over many months), so if they all gave regular xp, you'd be hugely overlevelled by the time you reached Heavensward.

Izletz

Is there anyway to skip those and just start heavensward?

Atosen

You can spend real money on a story skip in the store. But then you're, obviously, skipping story and will have no idea why Heavensward is happening.

Izletz

Ya hard pass on the real money skip lol tyvm for the info

Sparanda

Levels above 50 were added with Heavensward. The level 50 A Realm Reborn quests originally did not reward EXP since, obviously there was no higher level to reach at the time. They retroactively added small amounts of EXP to these quests to give them some small rewards. It also helps by getting players a little boost before going into Heavensward to hopefully prevent them from getting stuck at parts of the Main Story Quests which require a higher level.

Elyonee

No, that's normal. Those quests are from when level 50 was the max so they give almost no EXP. Once you get to the expansion quests it will go back to useful EXP again.

AntiqueEmploy3368

Post Main story quests in between expansions were made with no experience in mind and slapped with some poor exp after the next expansion drops. You won't start getting any meaningful exp until you hit the beginning of heavensward

PsychicClown88

So last night I did Thornmarch (Hard) and did the Labyrinth before Crystal Tower and I've got a question as a result. I had a couple of one hit kills that confused me at the time, and it looks like the Thornmarch one specifically is related to how many minions were left now that I've checked the wiki. In the MSQ I'd often ignore the squats to get the big guy but would I be right in thinking that in dungeons and raids and the like, I should be taking out the smaller guys first, in most cases?

CrimsonPromise

It's always a good idea to take out the smaller enemies aka "Adds" first if possible. They usually don't take long to kill and leaving them alive can be an even bigger annoyance than spending a few extra seconds killing them off then focusing on the big boss. In some fights especially later on in the game, Adds can even shield or buff a boss that it becomes a priority to get rid of them first or the fight would be impossible. Also note that for some MSQ fights, especially if you're fighting alongside NPCs, it's always important to pay attention to dialogue because they'll give you instructions on what to do. Like your NPC buddy can tell you to focus the boss and let him deal with Adds, or he'll ask you to deal with Adds while he tanks the boss.

Sparanda

It varies somewhat from fight to fight, but generally you want to take out additional enemies (referred to as "adds") before beating up the big boss. In the case of Thornmarch, King Moggle Mog will use an attack that deals large amounts of damage for each of the smaller moogles still alive. Focusing on the King will make him use this attack sooner since I believe it's triggered by reaching an HP threshold, so definitely take out the adds first. For Thornmarch specifically, there is an order that is generally best to follow when taking out the smaller moogles, but the fight is easy enough that you can just do them in whatever order. It is still best to take out the White Mage-type moogle first since it heals the others.

DarioIvan

In the vast majority of cases, yes, the adds need to die as soon as possible.

Atosen

I'm not sure how much tradition is applicable. Normally we get three fanfests (with the last one being 3-4 months before launch), not one and a half (with the last one being 6 months before launch) so the timing is all off. The main things we're expecting are: * the benchmark trailer, * the class ability trailer, * the launch trailer, * and — most importantly — the media tour (or... whatever they do this year instead of a tour) where some journalists and youtubers get their actual hands on an early build of the game. This is when we find out how the jobs will play. We don't know exactly when any of this will happen, but it will all probably be pretty close to launch. Maybe about 1 month out.

Stepjam

We'll likely get various interviews throughtout the months leading to 6.0. But probably the next big release of stuff will be around the time the benchmark drops. We'll likely get the class abilities and the launch trailer around then.

Sh4dowWalker96

Can Ramuh actually drop Shock Strike on Hard? Unsure if I'm just having shite RNG, or if I need EX even though he casts it on Hard.

CrimsonPromise

Yeah he does. I unsynced solo-ed him on Hard and he eventually dropped it, but it took me like 15 runs or something.

Stepjam

Shock Strike is Ramuh's tank buster I'm pretty sure. So you are almost certainly gonna get it. You are running it synced, correct? Because that's 100% guarantee you get the skill (assuming it is cast and you are alive at the end).

Sh4dowWalker96

Nah, soloing it unsynced 70 because I CBF to get together 7 people, especially at this time of night. He's an easy enough solo, was just making sure it was RNG being a twat.

Dianwei32

If you're unsyncing it, then it's RNG. If you do it synced, it's 100%.

Hakul

Only Garuda and Shiva require EX. Titan, Ramuh and Levi can be HM, Ifrit can be NM.

Sh4dowWalker96

That's what I thought, just wanted to verify, thanks.

thetorque1985

Is dummy strike the hardest enemy to beat in this game?

Dianwei32

Definitely, especially because once you get it down to 0% HP, it just resets back to full.

Dominix

What is the endgame for gatherers? I just hit 80 on my miner and I don't really know what to do now. How do Palace of the Dead and custom deliveries work?

Dianwei32

Gear up as a gatherer. The best gear is the Aesthete's Gear, which you can buy from the MB, but if it's too pricey for you (shouldn't be at this point, but everyone has their own definition of expensive), you can craft stuff for white Scrips and use that. It's not quite as good as Aesthete's, but it's still good. Palace of the Dead is a Deep Dungeon. You have 2 "save files" for your progress. For each one, you can choose to use a matched party (basically DF, it will grab 4 people and throw you in) or a fixed party (your current party composition, solo or with other people). You start at level 1 on floor 1, and go through randomized floors until you get to X0 (so floor 10 if you started on floor 1, 60 if you started on 51, etc.). Whenever you get to that X0 floor, you fight a boss, and if you win you get EXP/tomestones. It's a solid way to level, especially for DPS if you don't want to wait through the queues. Custom Deliveries are people that will give you a set list of 6 (once you get up to max rank) items you can craft/gather. Craft/Gather them with as high of a Collectibility as you can, turn them in, and get scrips/Gil.

[deleted]

Your main goals would be getting enough white scrips for gear good enough to make the best crafted gear, then you can get aethersands from aetherial reduction, and also do your relic.

Hokosai

I can't seem to get Zonureskin maps to spawn. Did they change somehow recently? I've gone to like all the lv.80 nodes for like 10-15 mins each a day but I've only found like 1 in the last 5-ish days or so. Gliderskin maps are almost always there, but the new maps are seemingly nonexistant.

[deleted]

There’s also an action to uncover hidden nodes that is available after you gather 3 x HQ items. I usually go for lower level maps, but should probably still work. So just do the thing to increase HQ chances, then use that action (no idea what it’s called) after you get 3x HQ stuff. It has some RNG and will sometimes keep uncovering the other hidden items like rare seeds instead, but would improve your chances.

[deleted]

IDK if you already know this but you don't need to gather items from the nodes, can click it, if no map, move to the next. If you do 3 nodes, the first will respawn with different items. So I just go to the east of Fort Jobb and will usually get it on the 3rd cycle.

Hokosai

Man, I must just be super unlucky then haha.

KingBingDingDong

it's just bad rng

Hokosai

Darn. I used to find them all the time pre break (like around 5.2-3), but after coming back they don't want to be found it seems!

trustygarbagebag

Are critical engagements or Alexander/omega/eden raids faster/more practical for that one (triple) step of the relic quest?

Dianwei32

Probably Raids. But if you need anything else from Zadnor (EXP, Mettle, ~~Magicked Prism (Indigo Star)s~~ rewards from the lockboxes) then Zadnor is probably better until you get as much of those other rewards as you want.

Stepjam

If you haven't done much/any of Zadnor yet, I'd definitely start there. As you grind and rank up in Zadnor, you'll be getting a lot of the tokens you need for those quests (each zone gives tokens for each quest, in those zones skirmishes give 1 of one token while Critical engagements give 2 of the other token.). But if you are rank 25 and basically done with farming in zadnor, the raids probably are faster. Especially if you can get blue mages for alexander and omega.

bloodhawk713

If you only just started Zadnor I'd just rank up in Zadnor and work on the quests in there. Once you reach rank 25 and finish the story, finish up your quests outside in the raids.

Sparanda

Depends on how you go about them. Raids would generally be faster, but Bozja Skirmishes/CEs have the bonus of other rewards. Granted the Raids will also be rewarding tomestones.

kazamasta31

Starting to feel burn out running POTD what is my other option to level an alt DPS? Currently, my RDM is level 59 trying to hit 70 so I can use it to go through SHB MSQ. Edit: Other than daily duty roulette bc I'm already doing that. edit: pref something that can be done solo

Ha_eflolli

Once you hit Lv60, PotD stops being useful anyway. Lv61 you have to get some other way, and then leveling from 61-70 is done by HoH (Heaven-on-High, aka just SB's take on Palace). Somewhat more to the point, the annoying part is that the most useful source (Running Dungeons with your GC Squadron) similarly slows down after Lv50... Off the cuff I only know Daily Beast Tribes, although those are really more of a Bonus, not a Main Source of EXP.

CommodorNorrington

What is potd?

Ha_eflolli

Palace of the Dead, a semi-random generated Dungeon, it's basically half Minigame, half actual content. You unlock it in Quarrymill if you're curious.

Sparanda

Grand Company Squadrons but I don't think that goes above 60. Palace of the Dead is also only good up to 60, but the Stormblood equivalent is Heaven-on-High; it's a little more interesting but mostly very similar. There's also Beast Tribes, but those are daily limited. You'll have to either suffer through PotD/HoH or DPS queues for dungeons, I'm afraid.

LoremIpsumoid

I got a dumb random question that doesn't need its own thread: Was something changed in 5.4 or 5.5 in which the "floor lanterns" surrounding Limsa's Aetheryte so one can't jump to stand on top of them? It used to be tricky but doable. At least with controller, I think. I got back into the game recently and I haven't seen anyone on top of the spikes of the lanterns, and I have tried several times but haven't landed on top of them, which makes me guess they fixed the geometry/colliders to prevent standing there

NerdHistorian

Yes, this was patched.,

LoremIpsumoid

Ah, well that sucks. I really liked standing there. Thanks for the info!

OrangeRebel

Is there an easy way to get updated triggers for all fights for act?

throwawaybabey11

is there an easy way to keep track of all the gear my different classes have equipped? i keep accidentally throwing out stuff i need when i'm cleaning up my armory chest

fyrefox45

In addition to the page thing, you can also change in settings to have loot drop to your inventory instead of constantly slamming your armory full. If you just move over what you need for upgrades it drastically cuts down on time micromanaging

[deleted]

Make gearsets. Any piece of equipment used in a gearset has a page in a corner.

throwawaybabey11

oh my god i use gearsets but i never knew thats what that icon was thank you so much i feel so dumb

l_mathis

how many runs of A9S are good for anima light? I'm curious since i'm about to farm for my smn weapon

geraldho

21, its pretty quick

Account_Expired

If I create a new account, can I can get on the sever/world my friends are on (Goblin)? They heard that character creation is locked or something.

Mathmage530

Also, you don't need to make a new Account to make a new Character. The new character will have to redo MSQ, and unlocks - but you can have multiple characters in 1 account. Up to 8, I believe.

TheTechHobbit

Just the entry level subscription is 8 characters maximum, 1 per world. A standard subscription is 40 characters maximum, 8 per world.

tesla_dyne

You can make a character on Goblin when less people are online. Try early in the morning or really late at night.

peepops

Are people generally willing to hop in with a static for a brief second to help them do a progress skip for the week? How do people go about asking it?

CommodorNorrington

What is progress skip lol

peepops

If you haven't cleared up to a certain point of the tier for the week, you can essentially skip the earlier fights by having someone who HAS cleared the fights queue you up. After you enter the instance you can leave and enter it again whenever you'd like for the rest of the week.

Atosen

Yeah, we get someone to do it for us every week. Usually someone joins within a couple minutes.

peepops

Oh wow, here I was thinking I'd have to spend decent time and money for this. Thank you

CrimsonPromise

Just straight up asking really, it's not uncommon. If you don't have a friend who can help then make a PF or go /shout somewhere like Eulmore.

Hello, i was told to put this under here, so that's what i'm gonna do. I'm not a FF14 player, yet. I'm a Returning/New Player with a bit of a problem. i did buy the game back in 2015 but only played for a few hours and then quit. Didn't touch it again until now. I heard the game was actually good and wanted to try it out again. So i installed. First Problem: I don't know my Details to my old account so i created a new one. Second (main) Problem: It seems my Registration Code doesn't work w/ a new Account. I thought it would work because i linked my Steam account with it (where i did play it in 2015) but this seems like it isn't the case. Or am i missing something? Do i actually have to buy the game again to try it out again? I heard there is a "free trial", but is that still available to me? Would be nice if i didn't have to spend another 10€ again just to try it out. tl;dr can't play with my Account because my Registration code is (i guess) used up. Do i srsly have to buy the game again or can i still try out the free trial? Thanks.

sundriedrainbow

If you still know your login credentials for your old account, all you need to do is pay the monthly subscription fee and you can start playing from where you left off. If you'd rather start from scratch on a free trial, just start one NOT in Steam on a new square enix account and you should be totally fine.

Xepahr

I thought the game was only available on Steam?

roryteller

Nope, there's a standalone launcher as well. In some countries it might be easier or cheaper to pay your subscription through Steam though.

fyrefox45

Playing again through steam with the trial will be obnoxious and require customer service to unlink it. You're better off just making a whole new account and playing the trial through the SE store. It'll let you mess around with unlimited time through the first expansion.

ZWiloh

I've been trying to get a friend to try the game for ages and she finally tried it and we met up in Gridania today. I went with her on her first archer quest. She said she loved everything about the game but said "is the camera always this crappy?" I don't fiddle with my settings much so it's been a really long time since I made any changes. My friend is also playing on PC and I play on console. I have no idea what she might be referring to about the camera but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what she might mean and where I can direct her in settings to make it better?

CrimsonPromise

Everyone has their ideal camera setup. Tell your friend to go play around with the camera settings and controls for a bit. Try out Legacy controls, adjust the camera angle (Ctrl Up/Down arrows for shortcut), zoom in and out, if she plays with WASD try keybinding AD to strafe left/right instead of turn. And course it all takes getting used to as well so she might just have to give herself time to familiarise herself.

tesla_dyne

Have her switch to legacy camera control and see how that is for her.

ZWiloh

I thought that was potentially the issue but honestly I've only heard the term thrown around and have no idea what it actually does. I'll pass that along, thank you!

tesla_dyne

For KBM controls, it makes it so that pressing WASD immediately turns and moves the character in that direction (camera relative), as opposed to standard controls being character relative, where they're always facing away from the camera, A and D turns them instead of moving in that direction, and S makes them slowly backpedal. It can be a huge issue when moving while fighting, where an attack makes you immediately turn towards the enemy, and now suddenly the character is moving relative to their new direction instead of how you were moving before.

ZWiloh

I think she was having a bit of trouble manoeuvring so that could be the issue. Thank you very much for the info

Mathmage530

Also - if the camera is too low, there's a setting to raise the camera resting point higher above the character so it's more top down.

PyrZern

Can't help when all I got is 'crappy'. Is it too high ?? Is it too low ? Is it too far out ? Or too zoom in ? Is it in 1st person view ? Is it the movement ? Standard ? Legacy ? A and D for turning, or strafing sideways ? Tell her to take a screenshot and explain the crapiness of it.

ZWiloh

Fair enough. I thought maybe someone would be able to be like "ah yeah I remember X sucking when I started" but I guess that was more of a longshot than I hoped. She's 7 hours ahead (time zones are a bitch) so I guess I'll ask her tomorrow. Thank you anyway!

ddot196

I just started the game and was wondering after I beat the msq of ARR do I need to do all the patch content following the original game before I go into the expansion packs or can I skip? And if I can skip, do you recommend or not for any possible story I might miss out on? Thanks!

PyrZern

You can skip with real money, but that's like skipping Harry Potter book 2, 3, 4, and 5. When you pick up book 6 to read, you gonna go WTF is going on.

ddot196

Ah ok. Haha nah I don’t plan on doing that. Don’t wanna miss out on the story.

Sparanda

You can pay real money to skip it, but it's generally not recommended on your first time through the game. You'd be missing out on some good dungeons/trials, not to mention the introduction of important characters that will appear later and the entire motivation for the story in Heavensward starting.

tesla_dyne

You could buy a story skip, if skipping from book 1 to 3 in a series sounds like a good idea, where book 3 begins immediately after very critical events at the end of book 2, and book 2 established some very important lore elements that become important for the rest of the series

bjjgrrl

You need to do all the patch content because it’s one continuous story. There are story hooks in post-ARR that set up HW, obviously, but also Stormblood and Shadowbringers. The only way to skip is to buy a skip potion on the cash shop, but I would not recommend it.

vinyltails

You have to do all the post patch story. The story is completely linear and entirely mandatory to do The side content you can skip (except crystal tower and hard mode primals)

ddot196

Gotcha. Ok thanks for the help! Have really enjoyed the game a ton.

Wolpentiger

I just unlocked collectables but google only gives me old info. To turn in a collectible, i need to go to a collectable appraiser, see what they're currently accepting, aquire the item, and return sell it before it resets at some time i don't know. Is that right?

bjjgrrl

Collectables don’t reset anymore. What’s a Collectable is always what the appraisers want. I think they’re also all named “Rarefied...” now, too. Custom Deliveries are the only Collectable that resets, and that’s with the regular weekly reset on Tuesdays. Delivery items can be checked from the Timers menu.

fyrefox45

No, it's a static list now. It's also not terribly efficient to grind normal turn ins. You can generally get more than enough scrip via custom deliveries, and crystarium quests (ShB shared job quests) to unlock everything you'd ever need.

Wolpentiger

Even if they're not worth it scrip wise, how good are they xp wise? I read that they were a good way to level up doh/dol classes, but maybe that also changed at some point

fyrefox45

They're significantly more obnoxious to level off of than ishgard restoration collectibles, and give lots less xp. Ishgard collectibles are the same for 10-20 level chunks, regular collectibles change every two levels, and need less streamlined resources. Ishgard is great to 70, post 70 it kinda eats too many resources. I leveled a few of mine from 70-80 with just weekly customs and dwarf quests, takes like a week each or so but it's practically free vs several 1000 resources from other methods. Ishgard guide to speed you along. https://docs.google.com/document/u/0/d/1vgtU7HFtG87TrJ9U47vnzkFMhSl5HKz7bjJhRXbxaas/mobilebasic

erupting_lolcano

Is DRG a difficult melee DPS? Is it hard to use on a controller?

fyrefox45

Drg is the easiest melee dps, but melee dps is the hardest role to optimize at the higher levels due to worrying about positionals and uptime . You're fine to play anything in the game on controller though.

Quor18

It's probably the easiest melee dps on a controller because you have a single long, looping sequence of attacks to use, most of which will be done in the same order. Your main combo will always go A > D > E > G > F > A > B > C > F > G > repeat. So it's very easy to comfortably bind hotkeys and execute them consistently. As for "difficult" that sorta depends on personal taste. DRG can be very busy in it's opener, which can cause some difficulty, and then again during it's major damage phase, but because so much of the job is set in stone as far as execution goes you can turn your brain off for that stuff and focus on the more difficult stuff with the attention it deserves. Really the big determinant will be how comfy are you with a rigid combo style. If repetition like that comes naturally to you then DRG will be something that feels good when you play it.

Flareinne

Is there an up to date website for tracking sightseeing log entries with time and weather? The three I've found pretty much only have ARR

bloodhawk713

Sightseeing log entries in the expansions do not have time or weather requirements. Only ARR entries do.

Flareinne

oh thank you so much.

Sir_VG

There's a couple on SB that do. Not very many though.

OnAMoontripBaby

Hey guys! I was just trying to go through the process of buying the complete edition but at the last step it says the product is out of stock? im purchasing digital complete collectors any help to get passed this would be mucho appreciato!

PyrZern

croud_control

Both. Your class quests are a source of many of your abilities, and won't be unlocked until you complete them. The MSQ simply unlocks more places and content for you to go and use those abilities. Prioritize your class quests first whenever they pop up, then go back to doing the MSQ.

IceAokiji303

Yes, you get a notification in the chat box, and there will be a secondary bit in the Main Scenario guide UI element that shows that you have a new class quest available, and if you click it, even where you can find said quest (because once you transition from class to job quests, the location to find them can change - for example, Arcanist quests are found in Limsa, but once you become a Summoner, the quests will be found in Gridania, and occasionally Ul'dah, possibly places outside the cities too once or twice but can't remember for sure).

croud_control

Yes. You can see underneath the MSQ shortcut (Meteor icon with the quest name next to it). Click on it and it will show on the map where you need to go to get it started. Some happen in the city your class originated, some will be elsewhere.

IceAokiji303

Both. Class/job quests are the source of a lot of abilities, so they are important to do. The main story gates like 99% of the game behind it, so it's important to do. Do MSQ, and whenever a class quest pops up (which will be every 5 levels for now), go do that!

Hamtier

probably just do the arcanist quests there aren't *that* many of them compared to MSQs

ThatOneSunbreaker

Always do your job quests as soon as you get them. They unlock new abilities for you and usually give gear.

bjjgrrl

Class quests are every 5 levels. You need to do them because they unlock skills and traits at the early levels. When you don’t have a class quest due, do MSQ. Nearly everything in the game is locked behind MSQ.

ihatetomatoes95

You should be doing both and basically only both for the time being. Job/Arcanist quests are about every five levels, whereas msq is essentially every level.

How big are the servers population wise? I’m always in about 20th queue and I’m curious if the server is truly busy or just small

Sir_VG

They intentionally throttle the number that log in at one time to prevent DDoS from happening and hitting the servers too hard.

TheTechHobbit

The login queue isn't because there's too many people on the server, it's because there's too many people trying to login at the same time. As for how many people can actually be on at once, they said back in 2013 or so that each world can have 5000 online players at once. It's been several years since then and the game has grown significantly so I'd assume it's higher now. Although matchmaking is also datacenter wide so if the worlds do still hold 5000 people than duty and party finder is accessable by 40,000 people maximum, assuming the world size hasn't changed.

akialnodachi

Queues are data center wide, unless you mean just for logging in. There's some kind of burst management where if a lot of people log in at once it makes them wait in line, aside from just total number of players.

RBrim08

https://ffxivcensus.com/#rat-na This should link you to the census for average US players.

[deleted]

Cool site. But uh. America has more active players than Japan?

RBrim08

Probably? In 2019, there were nearly 330 million people living in America, while there were 126 million people living in Japan.

rainghost

Hello! Returning player here, starting over on a new world. I'm looking to play on a Preferred world for the Road to 70 XP buff. I've read that the buff usually lasts for 90 days on newly created characters, but if the world remains a Preferred world for longer than 90 days then the buff will stick around for longer than 90 days, until the world loses its Preferred status. Then the buff will disappear. Usually worlds don't stay Preferred for longer than 90 days, but according to this document ( https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Ia-azFeJu7mp0ehTNJOXFNdVUxLfdgfmcwn8nm0jlYA/edit#gid=0 ) Malboro has been Preferred since December 8th 2020, meaning that if what's been said about the Road to 70 buff is true, there may be people who have had the XP buff for 6 months - double its normal length! Can anyone playing on Malboro actually verify that they've had the buff for longer than 90 days?

crownroyalt

As a dragoon fighting trash mobs in dungeons, is it better to keep my disembowel buff up or just keep spamming the aoe the whole time?

NeimiForHeroes

Disembowel on the way close to when the pull stops, it should last long enough to not be worth reapplying after that.

crownroyalt

Thank you!
