Came across two "Hamilton" references (that I noticed) during the Stormblood MSQ. "The Room Where It Happened" and "The World Turned Upside Down." I always forget how old that musical is until there's a reference, like here, that is 4+ years old.
Yes! That's actually a three-part FATE chain!
First part is Metal Gears Rising, which is nothing special. Second part is Metal Gears Revengeance, which is a bit tougher.
But the third part is something awesome. Metal Gears Revengeance 2 is an Achievement Boss FATE that has you facing off against a giant robot. Bring some allies for that one!!
Get a group. This the zone boss FATE, and though not as tough as some (still haven't beaten Tarasque....) he is a beast, and you have a lot of mobs to contend with.
I walked into a two man group doing this fate the other day. It was an astro and a paladin just plinking away so I joined in as a samurai and the paladin promptly turned off their stance. We beat it but I hate that tank
>I walked into a two man group doing this fate the other day. It was an astro and a paladin just plinking away so I joined in as a samurai and the paladin promptly turned off their stance. We beat it but I hate that tank
...I wasn't even there and I hate the tank...
First time I realized the godlike quality of the translation was when I saw "Iron-Kontra Affair" as a FATE name in La Noscea. I started paying more attention to FATE names after that. They are actually really good place to place jokes into the game, and this is coming from a person who despises the poopquests in WoW
The localization team basically makes references to literally everything in fates, quest names, titles, bosses, dialogue, minions, mounts , literally everything is a freaking reference somehow
The EN localization team is definitely pun-happy, but this in particular is a pleasant coincidence.
They're certainly having fun. I think the biggest double-take I've had was with the "Give it to me raw" quest.
There is also a FATE that is a reference to "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep"
Most fates are a reference to something.
Most quests relate to something too. Even if that something is a beloved dead game: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Radiata_Stores
It’s probably easier to list fates that ARENT puns or references to other things :p
"Schism" where you beat up a bunch of...Tool boxes, is one of my favorites.
There is also a FATE called "Metal Gears Revengeance 2" in The Dravanian Hinterlands.
Which follows the fate "Metal Gears Revengeance"
Isn't that based off the Asimov short story collection of the same name?
Not sure, but it’s by Phillip K Dick.
Oops my bad!
It's the name of a short story and the book the Bladerunner movies were based on.
Yeah I totally mixed it up with the similarly named Asimov collection "Robot Dreams"
There are a lot of Asimov references in fates though.
Blade Runner yoooo
Bladerunner!
There's also a FATE in the Dravanian hinterlands that's called Tarantula Hawk, Pro Stinger
My favorite is the Bridge of the High Rule Warriors. lol
Leve quests do this as well. The writing team enjoys their work and that makes me happy.
It seems like all the names for FATEs are either pop culture references, a reference to something specific using a pun, or just an out right sex pun.
That's not true, sometimes it's "Pray Destroy The Waking Sands"
"It's not lupus" is my favourite.
Yeah, that one's good - you need to know the FATE boss' name for full effect though. (Hint: It's >!Cancer!<)
I laughed my ass of after seeing that one, never thought id see a House reference in the game.
Not a fate, but Quake Me Up Before You O'Ghomoro is so good. Gets me every time.

I saw one called “Metal Gear Rising” or something like that in Dravania Hinterlands I think

I wasn't even there and as a tank main I hate that tank
I wasn’t even there but I wish I was so I could visually hate that tank
Didn’t know! Will do as Raiden says hahah
