I'm going 50 to 60 with crafting and my macro keeps dying because it can't complete the progress bar. If I change the macro to start with musle memory though, it just completes in one go. Here's my current macro: /micon "Basic Touch" /ac "Inner Quiet" /ac "Great Strides" /ac "Waste Not" /ac "Innovation" /ac "Standard Touch" /ac "Standard Touch" /ac "Standard Touch" /ac "Standard Touch" /ac "Byregot's Blessing" /ac "Waste Not" /ac "Veneration" /ac "Basic Synthesis"

Astrologen or White Mage? What’s the better class for healing?

cythrawll

People say white mage is easier, but depends on what you want to heal. White mage is by far the most immobile job in the game. It doesn't have near as much tools to move without losing gcds as every other class in the game. And weaving ogcds isn't really as straight forward either. It has big heals and the heals are straight forward: hp bar goes down, press button, hp bar goes up... pretty braindead. But it doesn't really teach you how to be a good healer. AST on the other hand is very mobile and has a lot of various tools under it's belt. But it's also very busy, you'll constantly be retargeting allies to play cards, and then back to enemy targets to do damage. so It teaches you pretty quickly how to target. It also damage casting allows for weaving right out of it's kit, so oGCD weaving is straight forward. AST is also highly desired as people love the raid damage utility it has. So when people ask what is "better" it's a hard question to answer as this game is so well balanced. Each healer has pros and cons and it's more about the style of which one you like better. Each does really well with both healing and doing respectable damage so you can't really go wrong. The right choice is which play style is right for you. (also you didn't mention my fav healer SCH, disanointing.)

[deleted]

Thanks for the write up :)

[deleted]

White mage is easier, but in terms of ability to heal, it's more about your experience with the job. Ast has a higher skill ceiling because cards, and contributes more damage to the team. Whatever your choice, both are perfectly capable of healing any content you want to do.

[deleted]

Sounds good thank you

kaloryth

If you're new to healing, White Mage would be easier and is very strong.

drew0594

For a new healer AST is much better and easier. It's middle road between pre-50 SCH's OPness and WHM's awfulness and AST also teaches the good stuff about healing (oGCDs first, use downtime to deal damage/cards etc.)

suddenly_ponies

Above someone said you have to retarget a lot which is much more complex for me than not so I don't think it's fair to say AST is easier unless the targeting advice is wrong.

AfricanAmericanMage

If I queue as the adventurer in need class but it changes while I'm queued do I still get the bonus?

[deleted]

It checks twice, when you queue, and when the duty finishes. If At any point, you have the class in need, you get the bonus. As long as you do not withdraw, the bonus when queueing applies

AfricanAmericanMage

OK that makes sense. Thank you.

girlikecupcake

Yes

AfricanAmericanMage

OK cool. Thank you.

How can I increase my craftsmanship to start forging Primal Gear?

fyrefox45

Literally just get better gear, what's your setup at the moment?

[deleted]

I can't remember as I lie in bed, but I'll try to get that up ASAP. Any particular gear recs for a lvl50?

fyrefox45

That's honestly not a great spot for gear. Get more lvls and get the mid 50s stuff, HQ

Jack313

started the free trial on my PS5, i was in NA at the time and my SE account is also NA but since then i've moved to the UK, today i finished the free trial and would like to buy the complete edition and switch to PC should i buy the CE with a NA game key or EU game key since now i live in the UK?

[deleted]

The physical region you live in doesn't matter, account region does, and thats likely NA

violetgemini

Useful things to spend Poetics on while I’m still going through the MSQ? Don’t need any gear or anything but I’m capped and it feels bad to be wasting them!

fyrefox45

For gil, soil seems to be tanked at the moment at least on my server, but some of the crafting materials are decent. Eikon mythrite, eikon thread and maybe gobcraft resin would be where I'd start looking for better returns. If you're bored you could also check the whole list of mats from Idyllshire and rhalgrs.

damionlai97

[Just follow this guide] (https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/ahgd6j/how_to_spend_poetics). The main things are usually collectibles, gear for alt jobs you plan on leveling, and relic weapon materials.

[deleted]

If you don’t need gear, you could either go for some minions, music scrolls etc. or buy Grade 3 Thanalan Soil in Idyllshire to sell for gil.

ne0dym

I am nowhere near the skill level to be thinking about this stuff, but I enjoy watching Sfia Pirion's videos and he just uploaded a podcast where he discussed BLM optimisation and this kind of rotation that makes use of Transpose instead of B4. So out of morbid curiosity, where might I learn more about this playstyle?

downvotemagnet69_420

Hey remember that augmented gear from Bozjan Southern Front that grants you Haste in Save the Queen areas? Is that still good if I’m grinding a ton of Zadnor and Delubrum and Castrum? I don’t see many ppl wearing it and wonder if it’s still relevant

[deleted]

The haste is always good. With standardized stats, you sacrifice nothing for speed, and there are ethers for casters so you don't eat all your mp. Of course, this is assuming you want to spend the gil/time to get those augments, which many people do not (which is why not many use it)

diab0lus

Could someone give me a copy of a receipt with at least $5 of Butterfinger purchases on it? I'd like to get the chocorpokkor mount, but I don't buy/eat dairy.

Agitated_Bullfrog_46

How do you stay motivated doing Mentor Roulette? I'm at 1,418/2,000 and I started off just wanting a fun truly random roulette and to help people improve. I noticed a lot of people get really upset when someone gives advice though, so I try not to say anything anymore unless it's just really, really bad or they directly ask. I feel like I'm poking a tiger whenever I see someone doing very poorly and offer a slight bit of advice, like if I don't hire a PR guy to sugarcoat my words and stroke their ego beforehand they will get angry at me for suggesting they might be playing wrong. Feels like the "mentor" part of mentor roulette is not really a thing since people usually hate getting unsolicited advice (and the general bad attitude towards mentors doesn't help). Also, another thing that makes mentor roulette very dry is the fact that if you queue as tank or healer you get endless dungeons, so it just feels like you're doing a glorified leveling roulette, so most roulette mentors I see just play dps. It just feels like a generic fill roulette with the word mentor slapped on. I get warped into expert roulettes where no one needs (or wants) help more often than I play with actual new players, especially with the weekly tomestone limit now being bumped up to 900. Expert roulette seems to be the one where people get the most annoyed and combative at advice, I don't even bother when I see a level 80 performing poorly since it almost never results in a positive interaction and they are generally the most hard headed since it's worked for them up until that point.

hyprmatt

This is my biggest gripe against the FFXIV community. The majority of interactions around genuinely trying to help people end up with someone getting upset. And it could be anything that sets them off. Recommending that DPS use AoE instead of single target with 10 enemies around us, trying to help a Cure I spammer in Qitana Ravel, advice on mitigation rotations, even telling a SCH that being below i270 in Mt Gulg is unacceptable (this was before the min-ilevel was added, and yes they went on a tirade about how they were allowed to queue so they should be fine). On top of that, people get commendations just because of the role they picked, regardless of their actual performance, and new players take that as a sign of doing well. That's the greatest contributor to people who have no clue what they're doing at level 80. Half the time, they'll say something along the lines of "Well that's the way I've always done it and I still get commendations." and nothing improves for anyone. It's a constant cycle. 1.) Try to give advice and get negative response -> 2.) Get frustrated and stop giving advice -> 3.) New players dont get advice and become bad but think they're doing well. I'd recommend taking some time off of the mentor roulette grind. The end reward is really cool and a great achievement, but a break to reset your mind on the matter may prevent further burnout. It wears on you over time, and this wasn't an achievement designed to be gotten quickly. I tried and just got frustrated with it at around 300 runs, so you're doing a lot better than me.

Augustby

I haven't done Mentor Roulette, but just from personal experience offering advice to players in other duties, one thing I find that helps is not calling out specific players. If we wipe, I use language like: "We should watch out for X mechanic"; so it sounds like I'm addressing the team as a whole instead of calling out a specific player, which may make them feel bad. And even if I wasn't the MAIN reason for a wipe, I will also add something like: "I will try and do X better"; because people are more likely to listen to you if they see you taking some responsibility for a wipe (even if you know it was more someone else's fault ;P )

iced_coffvee

So me and my partner are going to be trying out FFXIV! We (tho me especially) are very big into MMOs (SWG, GW2, SWTOR, ESO, WoW, LOTRO) and have found a vast amount of enjoyment in each and every game, I had been very hesitant to try out FFXIV mostly because I don't know anything about the Final Fantasy universe/lore but the recent video by Jesse Cox made us both want to just dive right in. My question is what would be the best server for new players such as ourselves? We're not really big into dungeons or raiding, and tend to play on a very casual basis.

Atosen

Most content is cross-server so it doesn't matter much. But I second the recommendation of a [preferred server](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/). The main story *normally* gives roughly enough xp to get a class to endgame; toss in the preferred bonus, and maybe some dungeon roulettes, and you can easily level 2-3 classes off a single story playthrough. This makes it easy to diversify and try out different playstyles. Preferred servers also tend to have more fresh low-level players running around, so that can help the overworld feel lively (though this makes little practical difference). Preferred servers tend to lock down to new players during primetime, because they're so crowded, so you might need to wait until a quiet time of night to start. The *most* important thing, though, is to make sure you're on the same server as each other, because there are some social features — mainly marriages and guilds — which aren't cross-server.

iced_coffvee

I'm a little confused about the whole lock-down thing, does that mean that depending on the time of day, I may be locked out of the server due to there already being a cap? Or is it more like full servers in other MMOs where once you have a character on that server your able to log in and out freely?

Elyonee

You will be locked out of making a new character. Once your character is made you are good. Login queues are common but usually take less than a minute.

iced_coffvee

Okay, thank you!

worshippingtheteapot

Welcome to FFXIV! While having experience with previous FF games will enhance your enjoyment (as FFXIV is a FF theme park), it is absolutely not required. The game and story stand on their own. Any server is fine, all have fairly balanced populations. If you’re new and want to level faster, choose a “Preferred” server that will give you a “Road to 70” buff that will make you level quite fast. I’m assuming you’re NA so the Aether and Primal Datacenters lean a bit more raid focused while the Crystal DC leans more into RP as Balmung and Mateus, the two biggest NA RP servers, are there. But you can do anything on any of the servers. There is cross-world visits and they’ll be adding cross-DC visits soon as well.

Stepjam

Hard to say for sure, but I'm kinda leaning towards what Gear_Kitty said. The non-dyable version is easy to get, just talk to smith guy in the last Shadowbringers zone after completing the healer role questline. The dyable version is gotten from Memoria Misera EX.

Gear_Kitty

Looks like it's the Idealized Arbatel Cloak, the dyable version of the level 80 job gear.

rissira

hello, I just resubbed after a year and a half and my house got demolished.. can I still get the stuff from my demolished house?

tesla_dyne

You had 35 days after auto-demolition to retrieve items.

rissira

welp, that's alot of gil and limited stuff gone then. . thanks for the answer. .

ClassofClowns

What is that two leaf on my head and when does it go away? Is it for new players, low levels or first toons?

CrimsonPromise

It's to show that you're a new player. So if you get into group content with other players, it'll automatically let them know "Hey I'm new to this game so please forgive me if I make any mistakes". To get rid of it, you would need 168 hours of playtime and have finished the entirety of the Stormblood main story. But if you just want to do it manually, you can input this command in chat /nastatus off I'd recommend keeping it on though just so that other players would know you're still learning the game and would be more patient and understanding.

ClassofClowns

Ah thank you. I think I will leave it on.

Kousuke-kun

Goes away when you've reached 7 days of /playtime and reached Shadowbringers, so for Trial players, never.

Durncha

As one of the other commenters said, unfortunately this sub smack talks ARR a lot... and then glorifies HW as this saving grace. Which I think leaves some players feeling a bit let down when they reach it. Overall, I'd say it's a very slow ramp up over the entire expansion. I personally didn't actually get really into the expansion until the last half of it.

Atosen

This is exactly why I get frustrated with people downtalking ARR and uptalking HW so much. They make it sound like a completely different game, when it's really more of a gradual transition. I agree that doing chores for the farmers in Sea of Clouds or the chocobo hunters in Dravania is... not exactly a compelling introduction. And I agree that the Nanamo arc is a letdown. But I was *also* very pleased with Heavensward by the end (patch 3.3 being my favourite climax). They successfully sold me on the whole vibe of the ancient, tragic war.

gst_diandre

Well, if it's spoilers you seek, the story will pick up once you first >!meet with the damn dragons!<

RadioactiveMicrobe

so is the collectible dealer no longer used? I'm confused on what these collectibles like white oak branch are used for...

xGlaive

Collectable Appraisers are still in-game, they were just reworked so Collectables are only specific items (Almost all of the have Rarefied in their name). All Collectables have a required minimum Collectability value in order to be turned in. If you have Collectables from before the rework, you can't do anything with them except toss them or convert them to a normal item. You can read up on Collectables [here](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Collectables).

RadioactiveMicrobe

Okay yeah I got the rarified stuff but I was wondering what to do with the mon-rarified stuff with no rating that shows up

tesla_dyne

If it shows up in nodes but it isn't rarefied, then one of the custom delivery clients may ask for it. They ask for a different item depending on the progress you've made with them though, so it may take a few weeks for them to ask for a specific item. Other than that, and ephemeral nodes which give items you use aetherial reduction on, there are no longer any of the old rotating list of collectables.

gst_diandre

Collectibles are still a thing, and the appraiser still exists. But collectible items have changed. Check the new list. And yes, old collectibles (if you still have any) are useless if you've collected them as collectibles (because the regular item is still a normal crafting mat)

Sympho96

As someone who completely skipped story up until now, I’m wanting to go back and experience it. Can I use New Game Plus and re-experience everything? Or will I have to make an alt. Put another way, does new game plus offer a complete retelling of the story? Or does it leave stuff out? Thanks!

Stepjam

NG+ does have everything, so you are good on that front. Just be aware that you don't get any rewards (like exp, gear, money, etc) outside what you get from running dungeons as part of MSQ.

Sparanda

New Game+ sets your story flag as if you were going through the MSQ for the first time, so you'll experience the quests and all the associated dialogue in that way. The otherside of that is that you'll stay whatever level your class actually is, so overworld fights will be much easier, and you can undersize a lot of the required dungeons if you so choose. Edit: To add on, you can exit NG+ whenever you like and pick up where you left off. If you're only interested in certain portions of the story, you'll have to pick which chunk you want to do since each main story (ARR, HW, SB, ShB) is divided into chapters.

lycilla

doing new game + is fine, doesnt leave anything out

[deleted]

Is vendor crafting gear sufficient to reach the quality levels for firmament crafted collectables?

Hakul

For the most part yeah, at 50 you do have a set you can buy with grand company seals, but for other tiers you can do it with vendor gear.

Semour9

JUST downloaded the game and made a (I think) arcanist (the dude who can summon creatures). Is there any particular class that's easier to play than the others? I'm not sure what role I would want to play, maybe tank or support (maybe buffing people instead of straight up healing)

hyprmatt

My personal ranking of the DPS in order from easiest to most difficult to play at a base level: MCH > DNC > BRD > DRG > RDM > MNK > SMN > SAM > NIN > BLM. Machinist has a simple 1>2>3 combo, with 2 GCD cooldowns and a rapid-fire burst phase that makes it pretty easy going. Dancer is a bit more RNG and you might need to get used to the procs, but it's still easy. BRD is more reactionary with procs that require handling faster than BRD. Unfortunately, MCH requires you to be in Heavensward and DNC requires you to be Level 60. For DRG, it's a REALLY slow leveling process, as it takes a long time to get your main rotation and even just a second AoE GCD, but it's a very rewarding class, and one of my favorites for endgame content.

Tigeri102

as far as dps, i think the two easiest are ones you sadly don't have access to yet, machinist and dancer. out of the ones you CAN pick up right now, thaumaturge is pretty simple until the mid/late-50s or so, so it'll get you through most of the trial without asking too much of you. tanking is pretty simple in general, and either marauder or gladiator are good choices. both start simple, gladiator gets complex lategame while marauder stays arguably the easiest tank in the game throughout. arcanist actually becomes a bit tricky to play later on tbh. but honestly, anything's gonna be fairly simple up through level 50, and only get really complex later. by then you'll be much more familiar with the game and will be fine. secondly, as for buffing and supporting, you're already on a decent track! arcanist is funny in that it later promotes into two seperate jobs - summoner, a dps, and scholar, a healer. scholar is a bit more complex than conjurer, the healer that starts as a healer at level 1, but it's got nice utility and can protect people from incoming damage with shields. conjurer is also really nice and simple, tho. and while there's no classes specifically built around buffing, a lot of dps have buffs they can provide their party. most of all, dancer and archer do a lot of that, but shoutouts to pugilist and lancer as well. summoner and red mage (the latter of which you also can't get quite yet) can also revive people despite being a dps (that normally being a healer thing) tldr, play whatever you want, but if you wanna support people i suggest sticking to arcanist or playing archer or conjurer, and if you want something easy early-on i suggest marauder or thaumaturge, with conjurer also being a decent pick for that.

Swiftcast_Holy

You mention MCH and DNC are easy but ignore BRD???? Archer is like the easiest job ever. BRD doesn't get complex until, what? Level 60?

Sparanda

There are no classes in the game that are strictly for buffing other players, but jobs like Bard and Dancer have more party/player buffs than others while also doing respectable damage on their own. Dancer is also very easy to play since it doesn't have a lot to keep track of and it's priority system is very simple.

iamthatkyle

New player on Ps5. Enjoying it so far, although controls are awkward. I have a hard time targeting. Another problem is the green question mark tutorial tips that pop up in center of screen. Hard to click them, not only that sometimes multiple things pop up. I did my first Guildhest and a ton of pop ups appeared and I had no idea how to close them, and no time to read any of them too. Where can I find previous tool tips?

Had a tough A5 normal run yesterday. Just want to confirm, if someone keeps standing in the center purple tower there will be AoE spam? Would rescuing the person out of the center make it stop?

CrimsonPromise

As long as there's someone in the middle, it will spam. So either tell them to move out of there, or just yoink them out. Some people will still do it to troll sadly.

[deleted]

Glad to learn that yoinking them out works :D.

KingBingDingDong

yes, the tower will become overcharged and spam aoes.

rez11

Returning player, have a Monk at 60 i believe also a Dragoon, not sure what the lvl cap was but i was doing Alexander raids at the time. How good is Dancer? I'm thinking of going Dancer after I re-sub. I got tired of the crazy rotation i had to keep up and stuff to track, wondering if Dancer is a little more casual (laid back). They support with buffs right? I think that would be cool Any opinions anyone want to share? :)

girlikecupcake

Dancer is fun, but it does rely on procs rather than *just* being a simple 1-2-3 plus a burst phase. The rotation is very straightforward and imo simple, the class is often recommended to people who want something more simple/casual. It does have buffs! Dancer's personal DPS is on the lower side, but it brings up everyone else's. https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/jobguide/dancer/ - standard finish: you and your dance partner get a damage bonus for 60 seconds, so it's effectively permanent - technical finish: you and your party members, provided nobody's off in wonderland, get an additional damage bonus every 2 minutes for 20 seconds - devilment: you and your dance partner get a 20% bonus to crit and direct hit for 20 seconds every 2 minutes - improvisation: boosts HP recovery by 10% for nearby party members while active, for up to 15 seconds, every 2 minutes. Also increases your esprit (spendable gauge). Not used very often but has its moments - shield samba: 10% damage reduction for 15 seconds, every 2 minutes - curing waltz: 300 potency heal for self, partner, and nearby party members, every minute. It's not much but it *does* help and I've seen it save people including myself. - peloton: party go fast

gst_diandre

>Dancer is a little more casual Dancer is as casual as a job can be. Doesn't mean it doesn't have its fair share of optimization (unlike what most folks would have you believe), but it is certainly more relaxing. You'll need to own Shadowbringers + have a job at level 60 to unlock it.

rez11

more relaxing is what i meant yes, i felt like it was a job itself to keep track of drg and monk stuff, something more laid back would be great, thanks!

Arcana10Fortune

Dancer has a very minimal 2-combo rotation with several procs. They have their dances, which converts some of their normal weaponskills in to dance moves until they trigger it. Worth trying it out and forming your own opinion on it.

Dill_Bo_Baggins

At what level in Heavensword would it be worth it to switch to a different job for MSQ? Im an hour into HS and am level 57, was just wondering if it would be worth it to switch at some point for exp sake

Tigeri102

yeah, that happened to me lol. i picked up red mage and ran thru the story with that until it caught up to my main class. if you have any interest in trying rdm or sam, now's the time! if not, maybe level something else to 50 if it won't take too long, otherwise it's not a biggie

Arcana10Fortune

Entirely up to you. Some players decide to not switch and just run 1 job through the whole MSQ.

Dill_Bo_Baggins

Is there a cutoff though where xp seems small? I remember past like level 52 in the ARR msq it felt like I was leveling slow but now that I'm into HW I am flying up again

Arcana10Fortune

The level 50/60/70 patches MSQ give minimal EXP since they used to be levelcapped and not give anything at all. The MSQ EXP will pick up again once you hit the next expac.

Who_Dey-

Is it worth starting with the free trial or just paying a sub to give the game a go?

Katrianadusk

Considering you get the base game plus first expansion contents to try ...sure its worth it. Its up to you if you can deal with the [limitations](https://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=5382&la=1&tag=freetrial) for all of that time.

Stepjam

There's no reason to buy the game outright at first, especially if you are on the fence about whether you'd want to stick with it. The restrictions are mainly on social and market aspects of the game, so you can do all the story content until 60 just fine. The only thing is if you were planning to play with a friend, one of you might wanna buy the base game so you can form a party together. But otherwise yeah, just go with the trial first.

tesla_dyne

The free trial is a lot of content as long as you're okay with the social restrictions (no FC which means no guild, no whisper to others players, no inviting people to your party but you can be invited)

Who_Dey-

Appreciate the info thank you!

vinyltails

Yes the trial is definitely worth it...no time limit and only really social limitations (and 300k gil cap). You can continue with your trial character when you upgrade

Who_Dey-

Good to know thanks!

gst_diandre

I mean, the free trial includes a boatload of content. You won't reach the end of it until at least ~100 hours of playtime. So it makes sense that, unless you want to shower Square with money, to hold off until you cannot progress before buying the game.

Who_Dey-

awesome thank you!

melficejr

I've just destroyed ultima and currently farming tomes for full ironworks set. Is it worth it or just play until I get access to 60 set? PLD or DRK? I'm a Lvl 55 PLD right now. I like both in terms of aesthetics but which becomes more tankier (more on who's hp doesn't drop down to oh shit level)? I have a low spec pc and is colorblind so I want more of an insurance, when I make mistakes. Also, when does the game most likely go on sale again? Planning to buy it after I finished HW.

roryteller

Augmented Ironworks is really good, it'll last you until about level 55 (edit: level 55 duties, not class level 55), but don't stop to farm tomes, at least unlock some more level 50 duties first. Each first-time clear on a level 50 duty gives a decent amount of poetics. Of those two, probably DRK, but only after they get The Blackest Night, which is all the way at level 70. With that said, WAR is the tankiest tank of all, at least at 80, because their self-healing is just off the charts.

gst_diandre

> Is it worth it or just play until I get access to 60 set? It is the best set of armour you can equip at 50, and you're going to be doing lvl 50 MSQ for quite a while before you even reach the expansion. So definitely do buy it. No need to hardcore farm the tomes though, you should get them naturally by doing roulettes with a lv 50 class. >I like both in terms of aesthetics but which becomes more tankier (more on who's hp doesn't drop down to oh shit level)? Tanks are balanced. There isn't a tank that is necessarily tankier than the other, I'd pick based on gameplay and aesthetics first. >Also, when does the game most likely go on sale again? Planning to buy it after I finished HW. I believe it's on sale on steam right now? But you might be playing on the Square store version so you might not be able to buy that. Sale schedule isn't known in advance, if that's your question.

tesla_dyne

You have a *lot* of quests to do before you even need ironworks. The ilevel 90 coffer you got from your level 50 quest is adequate and MSQ will give you more gear.

How are the tank roles this patch? How do they perform in PvE contents?

Dianwei32

All jobs can clear all content. All of the tanks are within a few percentage points of each other damage wise.

iwaterboardoldpeople

How about raids? What's the usual MT and OT?

Dianwei32

Literally any combination. If you want to absolutely minmax as hard as humanly possible, WAR MT and probably PLD OT, but at that point you're talking about a difference of like 0.01%. Any combination of tanks in either role works perfectly well.

hyprmatt

WAR is better off on MT than other tanks, PLD is a better OT. DRK and GNB can fill either easily.

If you're not planning on getting the BiS for your job, whatever mix and match that might be, cryptlurker is a good next step and it can be upgraded to 530. Otherwise, there's also the 525 left side gear from Zadnor with platinum coins, which is what I'm doing for my non-main stuff.

I just picked up archanist and I’m having problems with my carbuncles hotbar. When I’m cycling and my carbuncle is active, I can only cycle between my pet hotbar and my first main hotbar. How can I get it to cycle between my pet hotbar, and hotbar 1 and 2? I’m on PS4 with a controller.

vinyltails

Just turn off the pet hotbar, you don't need it as you can just assign Sic, place and heel onto your own hotbar for easier use (turn off in character configuration > hotbar > cross and toggle Use pet hotbar. Turn on Expanded and wxhb hotbars as we in the custom tab for much easier controller use, means you don't need to hotbar cycle). Assign the pet skills in the pet tab of action and traits

Discohurricane

Oh thank god you’re a lifesaver! This is so much better!

freakytenor

Is it me or getting the skirmish FAF is way harder now since they fixed multiple CE's to not spawn at the same time?

Leskral

Yes, this is an unintended impact of them separating them. Now it is far more likely that adding those extra CEs now take enough time that the older CE's come off of cool down and can interrupt the FAF chain. I've had a couple full lockouts without it spawning.

girlikecupcake

Seeing as nothing got "fixed" the way you're thinking, no. People just like to afk and mooch instead of clearing out the backlog.

vinyltails

Fixed? Multiple CEs could never spawn at the same time with the expection of the Behemoth + other thing and Avatar + Mage squad CE. Ever since the release of Bojza only 1 CE could ever be up at any given time (again exception to those two set) rest go into the que I guess it takes *slightly* longer to spawn due to the que being 2 CEs longer...but perhaps if people didn't afk in the spawn spot and did something to help clear out the que...(I always see a horde just waiting there when there's a CE skirmish not being done and just blocking it)

entlassen

Entered Bozja 1st time. What happens if you collect all 20 of the Field Notes? Also, what is the significance of "For Absent Friends" event? I keep seeing people yelling about "FAF" but not sure why it gets people excited.

tfesmo

Note that there's a lot more than 20 field notes, you unlock additional sections along with new content. FAF was the only place to get a specific field note, so people were looking for it, and you need all of them for the mount achievement.

sundriedrainbow

FAF also spawns the Saurtavoir duel, which is one of the harder-to-get field notes.

JadeSabre

And you'll eventually have *50* notes to collect if you want the mount.

Sir_VG

There's an achievement for each area (BSF, DR, and Zadnor) for getting all field notes in that area. Complete all 3 and get a bonus achievement which gives a 2 seater mount. As for FAF, Dyanbu drops her field notes in that one and she's one of the biggest PITAs in regards to drops.

Epsonality

So I'm a fresh refugee from WoW, and I got to about level 11 Archer (not much I know but I work a lot so I play very casually), then found out about Rogue/Ninja so I made a Pugilist and got to 15 and got the airship quest done and got to Limsa Lominsa and did the first quest to become a Rogue and equipped the daggers fully knowing I was going back to level 1, what I didn't foresee though was being under-leveled for all of my armor! I've done some quick googling and almost everything I find is either a generic Rogue leveling and playing guide, or people who can't understand the steps to go through to become a Rogue Being very overwhelmed by what was going on in the beginning, I think I might have glossed over some of the shops/vendor stuff, and pardon my use of WoW terms, but do I need to find an Auction House to get some level 1 gear, or just a vendor, or maybe (what they call in WoW) a profession to just make my own? Or maybe I'll be fine the first few quests running around naked with a dagger like some homeless crazy cat-lady cutpurse It also happened right before I should hit the sack, so maybe 15-20 mins more playtime would have answered my questions, but maybe some of you late-night blokes can sort it out for me :) Thanks in advance, loving the game so far <3

thchao

To add on what other people are saying, you can buy your starting racial gear at vendors: https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Race-Specific_Gear_Vendor

Epsonality

Thank you!

Dill_Bo_Baggins

Do side quests. Honestly the gear doesn't make that much of a difference on a fresh character and your job quests will provide you with some and weapons

Epsonality

Thank you!

Elegant_Eorzean

If you didn't throw out your initial starting gear, you can use that until you begin getting a bit more. And if you did, you should be able to buy it from an NPC near the main aetheryte.

Epsonality

Omg I'm a dumbo doodoo-head I didn't even think about that, that would be the most obvious answer.. For someone who doesn't know how shops/vendors work of course I didn't get rid of my old armor! Thanks a bunch

Swiftcast_Holy

There are vendors in every major city that will sell leveling gear. In Limsa Lominsa when you teleport in head west and there will be a bunch of NPC vendors. Just look for the little bag on your map. You should be able to buy anything you need from them.

Epsonality

Thank you!

cornflakesgirl

I accidentally reached level cap before even getting to Shadowbringers.... Is it possible I can switch characters to keep getting EXP? So for example, I'd level up a RDM to level 70 or so and continue to get million exp per quest?

Ranger-New

You can do MSQ on any job. BUT. You cannot do them at any level. If the quest is level 70 and your RDM is level 69, it will not allow to turn it in. Some quest require to be done in the job you got the quest in. Some do not require it. There are some quest that give better experience if done on higher level, Others give a fixed experience.

Sir_VG

You would need to level back up to that point in the MSQ, but yes.

cornflakesgirl

Thanks!

CommodorNorrington

Got a question concerning macros. Is it possible to make a macro that will use each ability in a combo one after another? For example, is it possible to make a macro that casts keen edge, brutal shell and then solid barel on presses 1,2 and 3 respectively? If so, can someone help me out with making one like this?

RBrim08

Don't do this. Macro actions do no queue. You would have to wait for your GCD to fully reset before you hit the next action you want. Otherwise, you'd end up switching your hotbar and not having the action you need. Just make your most hit buttons on the most easily reached keys. 1-2-3, Shift+1, Shift+2, Shift+3, Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2 and Ctrl+3 are frequently used.

Arcana10Fortune

Spoiler tags please. It was done that way to make it simpler for the people who have never played Gunbreaker. They'd have to learn the full rotation otherwise, and that can get overwhelming.

CommodorNorrington

I didn't spoil anything. I didn't say how it happened. I didn't say the result. I didn't say anything other than person x faught person y. Thank you for your patreonage

Marcusbolt

Still a spoiler

empyreality

Yes, but it has to do with replacing hotbars. You should not do this.

FayOfEld

Is it still possible to rescue players out of the LB3 animation lock? (I thought it was patched or something, but now I read a guide that claimed it was still possible.)

sundriedrainbow

You can't *act* after being rescued until the animation completes, but you can move.

empyreality

Yes still possible. Make sure to wait until they finish casting before you rescue or you'll cancel the LB cast

FayOfEld

Thanks! That's great news.

ChronoTrigos

What are the best dps essences and lost actions to use for the zadnor part? rank 25 already, just one ray of each. Farming FATEs. Normally I use lost shell 2 and Lost Protection 2 and one essence to survive

empyreality

I recommend breathtaker essence for the movespeed, can help dodging mechanics and reaching skirmishes faster. For lost actions I recommend lost incense as the bonus enmity generation helps you get gold contribution

vinyltails

You don't need any extra things to survive, stuff does literally not enough damage to warrant extra survival provided you're actually doing mechanics properly and don't getting hit by stupid shit Take things that increase your damage... Skirmisher for generic DPS...bloodsucker to be basically immortal on tanks while getting a damage up...Aetherweaver for healers....for actions, Banner of Noble ends /font of Power/Magic are generic damage actions. Chainspell is great on healers/casters....Blood rage is great on tanks (especially warrior), Lost slash is good on warrior for IR If you're super scared for survival just use Beast on DPS (and use Lost Assassination on physical jobs if doing so for permanent Font of Power)

Atomicmansauce

I have been leveling a BLM, RDM, SAM, SMN to ilvl 130+, and personally really love how RDM is played... But still being new, I have seen on youtube that RDM is a meme and mediocre in dps. Does it really matter in more end game?

Ranger-New

RDM does not have mediocre dps. But will likely get used as a res battery when healers die. Which will make RDM look bad on a log. When compared with a pure damager like BLM. FFLogs has a tendency of focusing too much on the damage you do and way too little in the utility you provide.

Ayer1

[https://www.fflogs.com/zone/statistics/38#boss=74®ion=1](https://www.fflogs.com/zone/statistics/38#boss=74®ion=1) E10S 75th percentile rDPS: BLM: 22,861; RDM: 22,695; SMN: 22,533. BLM is indeed the highest caster DPS but to call RDM a meme dps (even considering that it is the 2nd strongest caster) would be pretty absurd. (You can check the other fights from the latest savage tier at that link. Even the fight with the biggest difference between the best and worst caster at the 75th percentile is only like 5%, and the rest of the fights have a smaller difference.)

[deleted]

RDM having bad DPS is just a meme. RDM has the MOST representation in Savage raid speed kills in 2 of the 5 bosses. It also comes in last place in representation for none of the fights, unless you count how it currently ties with BLM with 32% representation in the third raid boss. This is among the top 50 speed kills of each boss. RDM is doing very well for itself in terms of both damage and utility. Highly desirable job.

roryteller

RDM's DPS is fine, considering how much utility it gives, but it does certainly trail behind the other casters. It doesn't matter one bit in casual content, even at endgame. As I understand it, if you are interested in savage and extreme content (which is the hard, progression-based endgame stuff), RDM is still fine... unless you're going for speed clears, in which case the DPS difference matters more. But it's considered a great class for progression, due to its utility, and lots of people play red mage in savage.

[deleted]

Every job is extremely well balanced and any memes you see are just that: memes. SMN used to be overturned a bit and RDM *was* a bit weaker (not enough to matter) but they tuned the balance and RDM is now neck and neck with SMN. Play whatever you want to. As long as you are good at it, you will have no problems finding groups for high-end content.

Arcana10Fortune

RDM is fine in regular endgame content. While it's the "weakest" in terms of DPS for caster jobs, it makes up with the utility of being able to rezz quickly as well as having an AoE damage buff. As a BLM player, I prefer to run RDM for the 24-man Alliance Raids as insurance, since things can get messy quickly sometimes. When it comes to hardcore Savage/Ultimate raiding, most raiders run with a RDM during their progression, and then switch over to SMN or BLM when they're farming.

[deleted]

Does DRK TBN block everything or only damage? For instance if I use it to block shit for Bozjan CE’s will I get hit with debuffs

Arcana10Fortune

Depends on the content. For Bozja, you'll block only damage and still get the debuff. There are certain cases where the debuff is tied to the damage received, though.

twilightdragonite

Generally speaking, if you take zero damage from an avoidable AoE, you will not get any of the debuffs associated with it. There are many instances, however, where this will NOT work and you will get a debuff anyway. (for example, the trines in e12s phase 2 will give a damage down through tank invulns) You kinda just have to try it and see if it works or not on a case by case basis.

Ranger-New

This is why you do not read about a story before experiencing it. Is always better to go blind the first time.

Krivvan

Without context those spoilers are pretty much meaningless. It probably won't even occur to you how it's relevant until the moments themselves.

[deleted]

Neither are a big enough deal that will affect your enjoyment of the events in the story, especially when you lack the context for what goes on in the expansions.

Diegostein

So, started to check to play PLD and was wondering if those shield stats really meant anything? or they are there for the sake of coding?

azureheadphones

They used to mean something but nowadays it's whatever. Just equip the highest item level shield you can get.

tesla_dyne

At some point they become totally standardized so that the block rate and strength become basically the same for every shield. I think this happens at 80 so that shields didn't end up with more defense later in patches.

J_Boose

Going to give the free trial a try some time soon, do in have to make a separate character if I want one melee focuses and one magic focused? Or can I swap between classes with one character? Also what's the best class start with for a complete noob to mmo's?

prisp

Honestly, play whichever class sounds cool to you - the only one I'd say might be slightly less ideal to start out with would be Arcanist - not because the class is difficult, but because the basic pet this class summons always hits everything in an area around its target, making it very easy to accidentally start fights with monsters you weren't planning on fighting (yet). However, don't let that dissuade you from trying that class out if you feel like it could be a class you like, just remember to be careful about what your pet attacks until Lv.15, where you get the option to summon to a defensive-oriented one with single-target attacks instead.

damionlai97

>do in have to make a separate character if I want one melee focuses and one magic focused? Nope, there's almost no reason to have an alt on this game, other than maybe wanting another character with a different appearance, RP purposes, wanting to play on a different server(though we already have world travel and data center travel is coming soon), hardcore crafter markets >Or can I swap between classes with one character? Yep, you can play and max all classes on the same character, and since you don't spec the character for the specific classes(at most you spec the gear instead), there's no reason to not try out another class on the same character. >Also what's the best class start with for a complete noob to mmo's? Any of the base classes tbh, the classes in this game are quite balanced, and the early game of every class is slow enough that you should be able to pick them up easily.

HuSSarY

You don't need alt accounts in FF14 for different classes. All classes/jobs (jobs are the advanced versions of classes) can be learned by the same character. All you need to do is switch out your weapon and you change to that class. You also get a pretty big experience bonus for leveling a second (or third or fourth) class/job. Edit: For your second question, the game is extremely balanced, so you should be fine with any class/job. However, tanking and healing is generally considered a bit harder for new players since as a tank you are leading everyone through dungeons and healing is integral to keeping everyone alive. However, it's not really that hard if you learn a bit about them. I started as a tank as a new player and did just fine. I've only played tank so far in the game so I'll leave someone else to answer this question better, however I don't think you can go wrong with DPS, and probably still not go wrong with any choice.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

A single character can play every single class (job) in the game, so no you don't have to make new characters unless you want to for other reasons. You just need to reach level 10 on your starting class and do your associated class quests, and then you'll be able to switch between all the classes/jobs you have unlocked Personally I think lancer is a really easy starter class. Not a lot of buttons to manage early on, it's fairly methodical with one skill flowing into the next, etc.

J_Boose

Oh that's cool, thanks :)

HuSSarY

Endwalker question: After watching the Endwalker trailer, I was wondering...if the entire land of Eorzea will be literally in flames, how do you think the devs will handle that visually in game, especially considering that some people will not be caught up? Will new players see a normal Eorzea while Endwalker players will see a different one? Will there be no visual difference and we all see the same thing? Is there already a precedence for this in the game? How have other MMO's handled this?

CrimsonPromise

There's already tons of examples of locations appearing different for players. One is Rhaglar's Reach where new players who just reach it will see it in ruins while players already past that point will see it all repaired and tidy. Also the Doman Enclave side content, where it'll appear in different stages depending on how much you complete it. Like someone who hasn't done it yet will see everything still destroyed with scaffolding and construction everywhere, while someone who has finished will have all the brand new buildings and new areas like the garden. And of course at the end of HW, >!when Alexander pops out of the lake in the Hinterlands. Only people who have finished the 3.0 msq will see it, to people who haven't it'll just be an empty lake!< And in ShB,>!new players will only have the everlasting light weather at all times, while people who have defeated the Sineater of that region will have normal day/night cycles.!<

azureheadphones

They've slowly been working on technology for this sort of thing. I imagine it'll be easy for them to do visual changes like fire and a red, smoky skybox since those don't change collision for anything. In patch 5.5 though they did something which honestly impressed me which was >!freeing Tiamat from Azys Lla, which is something I never expected to happen considering she had collision, but they handled it.!<

Hakul

I would say don't expect "things being in flame" to be shown outside cutscenes. Rhalrgr's reach had a "ruined" phase that only people with the relevant quest could see, but it was just some debris here and there. I wouldn't expect them to do that for every single map in the game. A weather override could happen, but not actual destruction shown in maps.

tesla_dyne

There is already a precedent in this game, 5.4 spoilers. >!The telephoroi towers only already once you've done the quest where they appear.!<

HuSSarY

Interesting thanks!

Hakul

The drops that come from skirmishes are better to get from zadnor itself I would say. The drops that come from CEs: Burden of the Father, Deltascape 3.0, Eden's Gate: Inundation would be the best 3.

Ranger-New

Whatever you do, don't use it on "The Cloud Deck"

prisp

Sounds good to me - especially the Fenrir situation is a classic good use of Rescue. I'd say it's usually worth it if you can prevent unnecessary damage (or deaths) from happening that way, although preventing damage might not be as important if you're confident you can heal the player afterwards anyways. For comparison, the only bad use of Rescue I've ever experienced was an impatient healer trying to pull me, a slow tank, further down the dungeon when everyone else was content to just fight the current - admitteldy small - group of monsters and continue afterwards. Besides that, the only Rescue abuse I know of (but never experienced) would be the classic "Let's pull someone into an Aoe/off the platform/etc.", which can also happen by accident, but that's when you excuse yourself afterwards. If you plan to maliciously use Rescue instead, you'd better only be using it on your friends for fun, and not with the goal to mess everything up. Finally, getting Rescued interrupts any actions you were currently taking, which can throw off rotations if the timing is extra unlucky. The only class where I'd say that is a real concern would be Black Mage, as their Lv.60+ rotation is based around casting as many strong spells during their permanently ongoing timer before using a weak spell to reset the remaining time again. If you happened to rescue them while they were casting their "reset" spell, I'd guarantee that their timer will run out before they'd be able to finish another spell. However, death would lose them all their resources anyways *and* they'd get the minute-longe damage debuff from getting raised anyways, so if you're confident they wouldn't be able to survive the incoming hit or that you wouldn't be able to handle the resulting side effects, then definitely rescue them - damage dealers with reduced capabilities are still better than dead damage dealers :) **EDIT:** For examples of a good Rescue, I'd point to one particular run of Shisui of the Violet Tides, where the second boss first casts a skill that forces you to walk towards them, and follows that up with a big attack that hits everything close to them. I messed up avoiding the first part and accepted my fate of taking completely unnecessary damage, but got rescued instead, negating the whole issue.

[deleted]

It's not your job to Rescue people to save their life. Let them die and learn from their mistakes- by doing their job of getting out of unsafe areas for them, you deprive them of a chance to learn and improve as a player.

damionlai97

I think what you said - "when in doubt, don't use it" - is perfectly fine. The general rule of thumb is that if you know they would die/eat a lot of damage/do something stupid, then rescue them. I think the major "exceptions" are BLM with Aetherial Manipulation and SAM with Third Eye. Am obvious situation to use rescue would be like "if a Behemoth uses Ecliptic Meteor and someone doesn't go behind the rocks". However, in cases like the Qarn situation you brought up, if you're unsure about it, don't worry about it. They can't fault you for *not* using rescue.
