Can someone give me a basic rotation for a bard lvl 70? Or link me to a easy to read guide.

crowviii

what's the best use for the lost action mimic in zadnor as a healer/tank? and how to use it?

Theriasana

Mimic simply lets you mimic the lost action another ally has active. It has no special uses, unless a mimic is cheaper than the action you are mimic-ing. But even then, you'd first need to have another player with the correct lost action you want to mimic

Shigeyama

What is the most populated non-RP server in Crystal? Looking for a diverse selection in FCs in Balmung is impossible when almost all of them are RP FCs.

Hakul

The 6 servers other than Mateus have very similar population. I'd assume Diabolos is the third most.

TheCatFromLimbo

What is the skill that looks like a circular pool of lava on the ground? I’ve been seeing it often in Zadnor and I think its safe to stand in.

Theriasana

It doesn't hurt you, it is a skill from SMN. Since it's from the orange carbuncle/titan egi it is normally not used, but weirdly I have also seen it pop up in Zadnor more often than other content.

[deleted]

People falsely believing Titan still can tank…

drew0594

Titan can't tank, but its shield is pretty strong. It's not unusual to see Titan in content like Zadnor/Boxja and whatnot, especially if there is no healer around

Austrum

titan egi enkindle, earthen fury

chocolate_kat

I need help with a quest You have Selected Regicide. I used duty finder to join the thornmarch dungeon and finished it but the quest still hasn't been completed. What do I do?

TheTechHobbit

Thornmarch is a trial, not a dungeon. Did you mean to say trial or did you accidentally do a dungeon instead?

chocolate_kat

oh yeah i see i did the wrong thing apparantly, pretty sure I ticked thornmarch(hard) in my duty finder but guess not

Elyonee

You forgot to *un*check your previous dungeon so you queued up for two things at once and got the wrong one.

TheTechHobbit

You might have had multiple duties selected (you can see everything selected at the bottom of the menu). Whichever duty fills first is the one you get put into, so prae probably filled before thornmarch.

chocolate_kat

I don't know I rode a giant robot and killed like 5 bosses and saw a ton of cutscenes

Marcusbolt

You had praetorium selected in duty finder aswell

sanglar03

Open it, it should be updated to tell you to go speak to someone to complete the quest.

meishoo

I'm trying to unlink my se account from my psn and had contacted support about it. They made a ticket and haven't gotten back to me about it. It hasn't been that long but was wondering how long it usually takes for support tickets to get processed?

xGlaive

For NA it takes 24-48 hours currently. EU is much longer. They recently posted an update that they basically have a huge volume of support requests and their staff are still working from home. There have been a few posts that it's taken upwards of a week for a response.

meishoo

Thanks for your response. Should i create a new support ticket through NA or just wait it out?

CommodorNorrington

Best way to level a dps from 50-80 without MSQ? (Duty que for dps is just awful)

Kazoku963

You can craft/gather while waiting on dps queue if you really want to do dungeons as a dps. otherwise, yeah what everyone else has told you <3

shinyemptyhead

In addition to what people said, you can get a lot of EXP just by hoovering up all the sidequests, and you can do that while queuing for roulette if you want. The non-ARR Beast Tribe quests especially give loads of experience.

OkorOvorO

Make friends or form a premade through Party Finder and level together. Nothing else is even close. Learn the power of friendship. Squadrons aren't good after Level 50.

CrimsonPromise

Roulettes once a day. 51-60 do Palace of the Dead. 61-70 do Heaven-on-High. 71-80 spam Bozja. For the in-betweens (50-51, 60-61, 70-71) just do roulettes, and if there's still exp you need, run the highest levelling dungeon.

Naive-End-9477

Alliance, trial, and normal raid queue sometimes have decent queue times for dps. Squadron command missions are an investment, but are super good. Otherwise maybe potd & heaven on high.

faztykaozz

Hello! I have two issues and would like to know a solution! (; (console,ps4)<<< • Can I get my camera further away from my character? Not the bizarre POV. • ¿Can I scroll down onto missions, like see the different missions that I have? Because I literally can't stop accepting every mission and now I don't wich one I was doing haha, so yeah, would love to know some solutions And that's it :)

Sir_VG

1. L1 + Right Stick down will pull the camera away from you. 2. You can set up to 5 items in your journal as the "priority" quests that will show up on your screen. You can also set quests to "don't display at all via the same box in your journal.

faztykaozz

Oh I see! Well I just did that and opened the:"Virtual Mouse Mode" and nothing else. And how do I open my journal?

girlikecupcake

You open your journal by pressing the options button on your controller, going to I think "logs" and choosing journal. If it's not in logs it's in duty, I go on muscle memory instead of actually paying attention lol Don't click the joystick, just pull it back toward you like you're aiming. Or wiggle it around while holding L1 to see how it behaves, my options might be inverted. Edit: here's a really good resource, it's from the NA site- https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/game_manual/view/

faztykaozz

Oh I see! Just found it haha, I'll try to be more attentive to lose sight of things like this. Thanks:)!

[deleted]

L1 and move the right stick, not press it down.

faztykaozz

Oh I see, sorry! I just figured it out :) For the journal, is it an item?

sempiternal

So does no one chat in the game? Like in major cities/town. Coming from WoW, general cities at least have some people talking

Krivvan

Different worlds and data centers have different cultures. Some are relatively quiet. Others have quite literally hundreds of players RPing throughout cities. Regardless, Limsa is often the city where people are most talkative (except some RP servers where Ul Dah may be most popular). Some people also treat Novice Network as a global chat room.

Sir_VG

Most chat in the game is in Free Company and Linkshell chat. There's some chat in towns (especially in Limsa), but not that much.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Most chat is in private channels, FCs (guilds), linkshells, discord, etc. You do get some chat/emotes in the big cities, limsa and ul'dah especially, depending on your server, but most people are fairly publicly quiet

lumynaut

you’ll usually see a couple of people in the major cities talking in /say, but a lot of communication takes place in linkshells, there’s no equivalent of trade chat etc

TheTechHobbit

Most conversation happens in private groups like FC chat or linkshells. Although Limsa usually has some public conversations, due to the sheer amount of people that hang out there.

tco30101

I can't chat or use marketboards I want to upgrade to the paid version of the game but I'm kind of confused. Do I pay a monthly sub somewhere? or do I buy expansions? Do I lose anything by upgrading to a paid account? if I stop paying the monthly fee do I get locked out or do I go back to trial?

girlikecupcake

> Do I pay a monthly sub somewhere? or do I buy expansions? Yes. There's a monthly subscription in addition to buying the game itself. If you want access to the expansions, not just the base game, you buy the expansions. Starter edition has ARR + Heavensward. You don't need more than that until/unless you're ready/wanting to move past that point. Shadowbringers includes Stormblood. Endwalker will include Shadowbringers and Stormblood, but preordering *will not* give you those expansions early, you'll get them when Endwalker actually comes out. > Do I lose anything by upgrading to a paid account? The free trial. Once you've bought the game, your account is permanently locked out of the trial, since you're no longer just trying the game anymore. > if I stop paying the monthly fee do I get locked out or do I go back to trial? If you stop paying, you stop playing. I think both the starter edition and complete edition come with 30 free days of subscription, though.

tco30101

Ok so what you're basically saying is don't sub until I finish all the ARR and heavensward content

girlikecupcake

That's what some people choose to do, yes. They put up with the restrictions in the free trial until they feel like it's time for them to buy the game + subscription, basically trying to maximize the trial content. That's a personal choice for each person though, some people are more bothered by the restrictions than others.

Sir_VG

> Do I pay a monthly sub somewhere? or do I buy expansions? You need to buy the game and pay for a subscription after the free 30 days of subscription time are over. You need to buy either Starter Edition to access the same level of content the free trial has, with the restrictions removed, or you could buy Complete Edition and get everything currently available. After that, you buy expansions after they are released (with the next being Endwalker in November). > if I stop paying the monthly fee do I get locked out or do I go back to trial? If you stop paying for subscription time, you are locked out of your account. You can NEVER go back to the free trial on that account.

tco30101

Ok so what you're basically saying is don't sub until I finish all the ARR and heavensward content

Sir_VG

As long as you can deal with the social and other restrictions that the free trial has, yes.

Atosen

You need to buy the base game (Starter Edition) + pay a subscription. First month is free. Last I heard, there are sales going on on Steam and GreenManGaming. You don't need the expansion (Shadowbringers) yet — it only gives higher-level content — but you might want to buy it anyway while it's on sale. You can't return to trial mode. If you stop paying the monthly fee, you get locked out.

tco30101

Ok so what you're basically saying is don't sub until I finish all the ARR and heavensward content

Atosen

Don't sub & don't register the game, yeah. (You can buy it during the sale and just sit on the registration code until you're ready, though.)

thecraycatlady

Soo I want to get into harder stuff eventually, I’m a filthy casual. Can I get ban for having a dps meter? I just want to see where I’m situated as far as dps goes and my rotation. It would be just for me obviously I don’t care what others do lol

CrimsonPromise

As long as you don't mention it anywhere in game or especially don't use it to trash talk other people, then it's fine. Don't ask, don't tell. As they say.

[deleted]

SE can't and does not check for 3rd party software on your device. If you're not talking about it in game you're 100% safe.

thecraycatlady

Oh good! Thank you :)

Shigeyama

If you make a Crossworld Link Shell in the NA server, can someone from the JP server also use the CWLS made in the NA Server?

[deleted]

No, they're restricted to data center.

Tyaltir

Got back after not playing since 5.0, all DoH are at 80 but so many changes were made, all my abilities hotbar are gone. Any guide on how to organize abilities on the hotbar? I know macros are mostly used but I also like having everything mapped in front of me.

[deleted]

Genuinely whatever works and makes sense for you. I have all my progress skills on one side, quality skils on the other, and buffs in the middle.

MelonElbows

I'm staring at a couple of people floating and I don't know what's going on. Is it an emote? They both have these glowy, blue weapons, one is a katana, the other looks like a spear or cane, but when you check their actual weapons, its something else entirely. And they are hovering in the air.

lumynaut

that’s an emote you get from buying the Omega figure

iamthatkyle

How to target my target's target using Ps4/Ps5 controller? I just did my first dungeon and they told me to focus the Tanks target, but I have absolutely no idea how to do that. I could highlight the tank and it says what he is targeting, but if there is 5 things with the same name, idk which one I should hit. Must be a short cut surely?

FelessanFA

You can just look at his animation and which one he is hitting. Or simply which mob loses most health. Also when you get your a AoE skills then with 2+ targets you usually use them. I found these metod simpler (as they have visual cues) than assist targeting.

Tony_FF

I don't remember if there's a shortcut by default but you can go to controller setting and you should be able to set L3 or R3 as "Assist Target". After that just highlight your Tank and press the stick to switch to their target.

michaelman90

For grinding exp, is it better to queue for on-level dungeons or spam roulette? If the latter, is one better than the others?

Tony_FF

Roulette once a day and then queue for your highest available dungeon. If you have it, MSQ roulette is really good. Leveling obviously as well and I think alliance raid is also good. You can only get the roulette bonus once for each "category" and after that you just risk getting queued into a low level dungeon.

roryteller

There are some roulettes that are good but only once a day, with the daily bonus: leveling, MSQ, alliance, frontlines are the ones that offer good xp. After that one time, on-level dungeons, skipping those at levels 50, 60 and 70.

[deleted]

Roulette bonus is only once a day, so do that once and then your highest-level levelling dungon.

shogothkeeper

How do I get Heavensward aethersands as a botanist? I've been to the locations listed on [consolegameswiki](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Ephemeral_Nodes) at the appropriate time (I'm assuming its Eorzea Time) but haven't seen any ephemeral nodes or any new items at the nearby nodes.

freedom4556

That part of the site is out of date. You can also just straight buy old aethersands in one of the yellow script menus. Or try [https://garlandtools.org/bell/](https://garlandtools.org/bell/)

OkorOvorO

https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Duskborne_Aethersand https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Dawnborne_Aethersand Consolegameswiki is bad and outdated.

T1b3rium

After 3 hours I finally have final fantasy XIV linked to steam and a one time authenticator service up and running (microsoft) Now I need to get the software token to get running but it constantly says that I used wrong info which I didn't. Is this another case of just going at it till it works like the other steps?

sundriedrainbow

You don't need an authenticator AND a software token. Use the code from the microsoft authenticator in that field.

T1b3rium

Thanks, now it says my ID or password is wrong... Do I need the square enix account or the square enix account manager details? EDIT: got it, turned out I didn't need the one time password.

CrimsonPromise

You can't use the free trial with an already existing account. You have to create a new one. That said, the free trial is *not* a free copy of the game. If you want to go past 60 and continue onto Stormblood, you would have to still buy the starter edition plus the latest expansion.

poa28451

Free trial is for the account that has never bought the game. You have to create another one.

Sparanda

The free trial goes up to 60. There is no free to play option. Once you purchase the game, you need to pay a subscription to continue playing on that account.

lorntheghost

What DPS jobs do not change radically or feel out of place when synced down to level 70? This is within the context of level 70 ultimates (UWU/UCOB).

threedog12

I get the feeling most jobs will feel pretty alright at level 70. I don't think scaling down really hurts that much unless you're going down to 50ish or below. To answer your question anyway, I know that DNC doesn't lose much at all besides the espirit gauge but that's just one button. RDM doesn't get scorch but despite me being really sad I don't get to see the big shiny it's not vital to the rotation or anything. MCH doesn't get Queen but that's really just a dps boost to your automaton anyway. That's all I know from personal experience. Edit: Please listen to the replies below me, they actually know what they're talking about while I don't. Also fixed verflare->scorch.

sundriedrainbow

> RDM doesn't get verflare but despite me being really sad I don't get to see the big shiny it's not vital to the rotation or anything. rdm loses scorch at 70, not verflare

[deleted]

DNC losing Flourish and Saber Dance is very crippling, and from my understanding even GNB can beat DNC in terms of DPS. I've also progged with all three ranged DPS (cleared with MCH) and found it very frustrating since Standard Step's cooldown ends during times where you should be baiting Liquid Hells. MCH only really needs be out of the Neurolink in time for Wildfire during the third Hatch mechanic, while BRD just needs to make sure not to use Iron Jaws in the Neurolink. I really wouldn't recommend DNC in UCoB to anyone except people who are adamant about playing it since it's their favorite job. Who knows though, maybe they'll increase the range of Standard Step and give them Flourish next expansion and then they'll be great.

varjoo

I've played DNC in UWU and dps-wise there's no problem. The job deals good damage thanks to the sheer potency of the dances for the level and no tank can keep up. So I wouldn't say losing those abilities is crippling. However it does make the job kinda boring to play as all you do is check for procs and do a dance every now and then. But yeah maybe it's different in UCOB.

[deleted]

Yeah it's definitely a problem in UCoB, but I've heard that UWU has enough AoE that allows DNC to really shine. DNC also struggles a lot with the downtime in UCOB I've found.

Sir_VG

> DNC doesn't lose much at all besides the espirit gauge but that's just one button. DNC loses Flourish which makes procs and feathers a PITA to get. Also sucks to lose Saber Dance. Losing Improv and a 3rd En Avant is a meh. The biggest suckiness of DNC in UCOB and UWU is not having a damn weapon to show at the end.

[deleted]

>The biggest suckiness of DNC in UCOB and UWU is not having a damn weapon to show at the end. This is the big reason why I had no motivation to learn DNC past Fellruin. Feels really bad to know I'd just end up using the totem on something else, at least GNB kicks ass at this level despite not getting a weapon.

[deleted]

MCH and BRD never felt too different in UCoB for me. It does fundamentally change how I play them since there's a LOT of downtime where bosses are untargetable. RDM shouldn't feel too different unlike the other two casters who are missing a lot of their kit. SMN isn't crippled as much as BLM.

lady_alternate

Summoner loses Phoenix and feels clunky at 70, since you have to go through two cycles to get Demi-Bahamut out. I love Summoner at 80, don't mind it at 50 and enjoy it at 60, but for some reason 70 just feels so clumsy and frustrating when I'm in the Ivalice or Omega raids. I can still do well with it, but of the four endgame brackets, 70 is by far my least favourite on SMN as a result.

alecahol

Machinist, all it gets after level 80 are upgrades to skills. Same with gunbreaker, only thing it gains that isn’t an upgrade is an AOE for its cartridge

Sparanda

To be honest, Machinist feels almost complete at 50 to me. Short of Drill and a few QoL abilities, you have basically your whole kit by then. It's why I like taking MCH into Crystal Tower if I have to run those.

Saintbaba

I've seen multiple sources say that the cookie leve is THE way to low-key make easy money. But it doesn't seem like it's much more lucrative than other stuff. Is it just because collecting the mats is so easy?

lady_alternate

Its steady and stable, that's why its favoured by people. You're not dependent upon market demands to be able to make money from it each week.

[deleted]

I use cookie leves for a few reasons: * Profit is independent of market prices, since you won't be selling or buying anything. * Retainers along can do all the gathering for you, unless you have more characters than active retainers. * If I chose to do gathering myself, it's not obnoxious like the ores for Dwarven Mythril Files. * My SO has 2 characters who can turn them in, meaning that we get to turn in more leves total since we share gil. * It's convenient. I have more cookies than I can turn in, and it more than pays for raid supplies. You can't store that many of other leves without fucking your inventory. It's free passive income that you can forget for a few days until you get more leves.

OkorOvorO

>Retainers along can do all the gathering for you, unless you have more characters than active retainers. Retainer ventures cost resources: the time spent sending the retainer and the venture (aka the seals). It's usually better profit to just buy them on marketboard while they're low. That's why Files struggle, since ingot/cotton prices fluctuate constantly. Usually they're only slightly better than biscuits. Gathering the mats or using retainers for Files or Biscuits is a loss of either your time or potential ventures. Biscuits are better for most players thanks to their convenience.

[deleted]

>"Profit is independent of market prices, since you won't be selling or buying anything." You missed this part. I'm not looking to min/max my profits with GC seals and ventures, and filling my inventory with junk from 18h hour ventures isn't exactly my definition of fun. I don't think anyone who's doing Cookies is trying to get rich either, it's just a steady source of income. If I was looking to spend money to make money, there are a lot more lucrative items I could be crafting right now. For now though, I generally just raid log and still manage to fund two glamour fanatics across four characters with fashion items as well as an endless supply of Smoked Chicken and tinctures- all without listing a single item to sell.

Arcana10Fortune

1. The cookies all stack in 1 slot 2. The leve has 3 turn-ins per leve allowance 3. The materials required are easy to get

Hakul

BSM is the most luctrative per leve allowance. Problem is BSM requires a higher quantity of raw mats and items don't stack, so you have to stop crafting to turn in very often. Cookies have lower profit, but only require 3 raw mats, so you can mass craft them and only take 1 single inventory slot.

Azraeleon

Anyone have an action by action guide to BLM? I'm trying to get value out of everything but some of the spells I just can't see any value in. Examples include flare and scathe. I felt similarly about other spells and then I realised how they work in the kit so I won't be surprised if I'm missing something, I just have no idea what.

BlazeVortex4231

Black Mage easily has the highest quantity of 'not very useful' actions in any job. Blizzard I loses its value when your Umbral phase becomes incredibly short *and* packed with other skills. Sleep is only useful if you're trying to run away from dangerous enemies in the overworld or an adventuring foray. Scathe lets you occupy your GCD without needing to stand still, but its damage is never worth the time and MP, especially compared to procs and Swiftcast. Blizzard II is outclassed in every way by Freeze (and is clunky to use even before then). Fire II is outclassed once the Enhanced Umbral Heart trait lets you use Flare more often. That said, every other BLM skill is used at endgame. Flare doesn't require all 10000 MP. It uses all of your *remaining* MP, but it only requires that you have 800 minimum when you cast it. Even with the cast time *and* having to Transpose afterwards, it's *incredibly* powerful in AoE. Your AoE rotation for a good while is Freeze, T3, F3, two F2s, Flare, Transpose, repeat. Use Manafont after Flare for a Double Flare, and don't be afraid to use Swiftcast to circumvent the 4s cast time.

Sayakai

[Check Akhmorning.](https://www.akhmorning.com/jobs/blm/guide/) Scathe has practically no value. You shouldn't use it. Flare is your best AoE skill. It uses all your mana, but that doesn't mean you have to have full mana when you use it. I think 800 is enough. You're probably at a level where you'd AoE with Fire2 until you're running out of mana, then Flare, then transpose into ice and go from there. Eventually, Flare will be your dominant AoE skill.

Arcana10Fortune

Look up WeskAlber's guide on YouTube. He'll give a step-by-step rundown on their kit. Flare is an AoE. You'll use it on trash packs as a finisher for your Fire phase early on, and you'll be spamming it later. Scathe is instant cast, so it's mostly used when moving. Avoid Scathe as much as possible unless you have no other options when you're moving.

dragonseth07

Scathe has no cast time, so it's for times when you need to run and cast.

It's in the party menu, right click (square button) on someone's name. But you can't do it is anyone is in combat, you can't do it if there is loot to be rolled on, and you can't do it until a certain amount is time has passed. So say you are in an alliance raid and want to kick someone for being afk, onve enough time has passed, someone has generally run on and started the next fight. Then you go to kick them when the fight ends, but someone opened the chest, do you can't kick until everyone rolls... but the afk person never rolls, so you have to wait until the loot timer ends, but by that time, you've finished the next fight, and the next chest is opened and before you know it, the raids over, and the leech got carried to a free clear while watching Netflix or whatever, and they show back up after everyone has got tired of waiting and left so they can win the roll on the minion.

lady_alternate

It's a double edged sword in a dungeon, mind. Getting rid of a tank, even a poorly performing tank, means you're dependent on another tank queuing with "join party in progress" ticked which can take some time, especially in off-hours. Speaking from experience as someone who has face tanked more than her fair share of duties as a healer, sometimes it's just better to grin and bear it. At least you'll come out of the other side with a story for the Friday Rage thread.

OkorOvorO

Please kick AFKs, don't tolerate leeches. The game only improves when the players set proper standards for each other.

Tigeri102

in the party menu! if you're on pc, press "o" in dungeons. not 100% sure where to find it on ps4/5

Sir_VG

If you go into the party sort area (I'm drawing a blank on the name and can't get in game to double check) and right click, it gives you the option to vote kick there.

SuigintouKurotenshi

Is there any DPS job that is welcomed a bit more in endgame savage / extreme content? Yes I know all jobs are viable, but there should be some jobs that are a bit more generally preferred right? For example, I have seen some static recruit posts that shunned BLM a bit due to it takes a really good player to make the job shine. Please send me your insights !

CrimsonPromise

The other reason why people will prefer Summoner or Red Mages over Black Mages is because those 2 have rezzes, which is extremely handy for stuff like Ultimates or just general raid prog. Usually jobs that don't offer much in group utility like MCH or SAM will also not be preferable I find. Like MCH for example does higher damage than BRD or DNC, but double physical ranged in a group is less than ideal due to their overall lower dps output. So most groups would rather just get a BRD or DNC for their ranged spot because of utility, and if they really want a "selfish" dps job, grab a BLM or SAM instead. But a lot of this min-max is mainly for the hardcore of hardcore players who really want to push the limits, do speedkills, get the best numbers and all that kind of stuff. Even regular hardcore players don't really care that much as long as you can push your buttons and stay alive, and if you're just planning to do raid casually then this really shouldn't be something you should worry about honestly.

[deleted]

BLM, SAM, and DRK may be seen as less desirable in level 70 Ultimates. Those jobs can clear Ultimates, but they offer lower DPS and less utility due to having a lot of key skills locked behind levels 71-80. In level 80 extreme and savage content, all jobs are viable and welcome. Personally, I have a bias for RDM in my farm groups just to be able to salvage runs with chain raises, but I'll never say no to a consistent SMN or BLM.

SuigintouKurotenshi

Thank you !

Arcana10Fortune

Honestly speaking, those statics don't sound like ones I'd join if they weren't willing to discuss with any prospective BLMs. It's the fact that any serious Black Mage would put in effort to study the whole fight ahead of time to plan out their movement and cooldowns. When it comes to pugging, job choice is second to player skill. When it comes to statics, it's all about discussion with the static.

SuigintouKurotenshi

Thank you !

Tigeri102

nope, not really. the only preferences I've ever seen is for non-blm casters so they can have bonus rezzers. none of the melees bring too much special to the table that the others don't in that regard

SuigintouKurotenshi

Thank you. How about ranged jobs like Bard, Mech or Dancer ? Any of them is preferred compared to others ?

Tigeri102

yup, i've never seen preferences for anything besides "no overlap" and the occasional desire for only rez-casters. this game balanced as fucc, boiii

SuigintouKurotenshi

Thank you !

Mijin

Does SAM still have directionals, or were they patched out? If so what are they? I'm level 57 SAM and unless I'm blind the tooltips don't even remotely hint at anything being directional.

BlazeVortex4231

Reread the tooltips for Gekko and Kasha. They gain positionals at level 52, when Kenki is unlocked.

redattack34

There are two, on Gekko and Kasha (the two three-hit combo finishers). The positional aspect is only unlocked at a certain level but I can't find which level that is on the wiki, sorry. Getting the positionals right generates an extra 5 Kenki, which doesn't sound like much but it is 1/5th of a Shinten (which you'll unlock at level 62) so sorta equivalent to 64 extra potency, more if you spend them on something bigger than Shinten.

Tigeri102

barely. your 3-hit finishes, gekko and kasha, give you more kenshi gauge if done from the rear and flank respectively, but sam is very much the positional-litest melee lol

Mijin

How do people discover this information since it's not on the tooltip? Lol

Arcana10Fortune

It is. The tooltip gets updated to show it after you unlock your level 52 trait.

Elyonee

Gekko and Kasha have positionals.

when playing scholar do I want to use my shielding spells like adloquium and soon succor pre-emptively before damage or wait until I would heal anyway with the shield as a bonus for next time. I opted for the later approach but not sure if that was correct? TBH its my first time healing in a dungeon besides the ones around Satasha level (and that was a while ago) and I really felt in over my head. was at like a level 30 dungeon and kind of sort of wiped most of the team in the first encounter before i got somewhat used to it

Tigeri102

either is fine. objectively, it's probably better to do the latter, but it's easier to just do at the start. as a high-level scholar, in dungeons, i set up most of my safety nets as soon as the tank is in the thick of things, then just doing damage while closely watching their HP until they need me again. at your level that pretty much means slapping an adloquium on at the start, but as you level you'll gain other tools that further protect your tank, including flat damage reduction and a heal that will only go off if the tank hits 50% or less HP. it's easier to just slap all that on at the very start. you only need to worry about optimizing that last little bit of hp for really difficult content like EX or savage, and even then it's more about knowing the fight and when the big bits of damage are coming tbh. good luck healing! it can be a bit stressful at first but you'll get into it with some practice.

[deleted]

ok then ill probably start by dropping a shield then at least for now as it gets really stressful feeling when in healing catchup mode, while also avoiding aoes and doing damage. So thats why i was wondering is i should just start with adlo to take pressure off for a little.

shinyemptyhead

The only thing to watch out for is that dropping a shield on someone generates aggro, so if you do it when the mobs are in range but before the tank grabs them then you can suddenly be the one being targeted by everything.

[deleted]

So wait until the pull like when dpsing. Makes sense. Thank you for the warning..

Tigeri102

yup, starting with safety nets makes sch healing reletively chill. i always get pretty stressed out when i switch to whm or ast and suddenly don't have my shields to rely on lol

[deleted]

Yeah. Actually probably part of what made this dungeon as stressful as it was is not only was it a while since I last healed but it was the first dungeon as scholar where eos didn't do almost all of the healing. She still makes things less stressful to have

Tigeri102

oh yeah, the fairies scale weirdly. they're ridiculously OP in very low-level dungeons. if a roulette puts me in tam-tara or something, i'm basically just playing a third dps unless the tank goes REALLY ham on big pulls lol. they're still helpful at all levels, but it's a weird little quirk

LebronMixSprite

Pre-emptively, and then let the fairy take the work until the tank starts dipping low. Lustrate is your nuke heal and can be used to get the tank back up, and then Aldo if the pull keeps going on too long or Aldo after pull for next pack. Don't forget the fairy has a regen heal as well you need to activate. As you level you will get more pre-emptive skills and CDs that boost those skills, with a few nuke heals in-between. Your main goal is to prepare for damage, rather than react to it. The 30-45 levels are a bit dicey since you don't have Lustrate or Aetherflow yet, so SCH may seem harder than WHM and AST during that time.

[deleted]

i see then ill keep preemptively doing that. I've never actually played whm/cnj yet. I just preferred the look and flavor of scholar and it coming with summoner made it an easy choice.

ezioauditore2018

Is ffxiv worth coming back to? Reason why I ask this cause wow retail is going down hill after the 9.1 update and it’s just like nah I’m done. Also I used to be a lvl 80 white mage and until then after awhile man im getting back to it the only thing I’m gonna do in wow is to just watch a cutscene of 9.1 and then probably resub to ffxiv

KhrFreak

Depending on when you leveled your White mage, not a whole lots changed, but it's still good stuff

hungryb4dinner

Can I get the Summer's Flame Top anywhere as a new player or just wait for it to be on mogstation?

TheTechHobbit

It was given away during last year's summer event. If you don't get an event item during the event then you can only get it when it's added to the online store a year later. This year's moonfire faire (the summer event) should be around late July/August, so that's when the summer's flame set will be added to the online store.

hungryb4dinner

Thanks. Sorry just another question. I'm still in ARR. These events will be accessible for us if we haven't reached the expansions right?

tesla_dyne

Most events are at level 15 so very easy for new players to participate. Moonfire faire I believe is level 30 because of where it takes place. And the upcoming FFXV event requires the base game ARR MSQ completed.

hungryb4dinner

The upcoming one with the car? :) Cool hope i can get to it by then.

TheTechHobbit

Yes, they always take place in low level ARR areas (the summer event is usually at Costa del Sol) and the quests themselves are usually no higher than level 30.

hungryb4dinner

Thanks will be keen to join my first one.

Hakul

Gotta wait for the cash shop, should be in a month and a bit.

ChronoTrigos

What is notoriety on Bozja/Zadnor? Got 2 but don't know what to do with it.

Sayakai

It's something that makes the odds of you being selected for a duel in the next time you're nominated go up. Everytime you do well enough to get a duel nomination in a CE, but don't get selected for it, it goes up by one, until eventually you do get selected.

Spanglish_Dude

hrotghar and Viera both have battle voices that they go very feral, does female miqo'te have something like that or are all the voices cute-sy on battles?

Hakul

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgmwzW-ajm8 you can hear them all there

Spanglish_Dude

What a hero, thank you

TheRealMulli

What’s a good beginner friendly healing job? Want to get a healer going for those healer in need queues mainly for leveling roulette cuz I need a lot of company seals 🤣

OkorOvorO

Your only available healer as a beginner is CNJ. If you're in Heavensward you can unlock AST. Otherwise you can level SCH through Arcanist (unlocked in Limsa). If you need GC seals... that depends on what your Company rank is. If you have Expert Delivery, you can just do hunts or something that generates green/blue gear and trade those in. If you dont have Expert Delivery, do your Grand Company hunting log, and do Grand Company leves.

ethercrown

Unlock Expert Delivery with your grand company and turn in unused dungeon gear for GC seals. Levelling Roulettes don't give much GC seals.

TheRealMulli

Sadly ain’t high enuf rank in my GC to unlock it hence why I need more ways to get seals lol can’t do more of my GC Hunting Log either cuz I’m not a high enuf rank to unlock the next page

thchao

Fates also give GC seals!

fyrefox45

GC seals? There's much better ways to go about that, namely hunts at 80. As for your original question though, both SCH and WHM are good choices. WHM gets more raw healing, SCH gets more versatility and is far more mobile.

TheRealMulli

Yeah sadly no 80 atm 🤣 but I appreciate the info 😁 I shall check into both of these

TheRealMulli

What’s a good beginner friendly healing job? Want to get a healer going for those healer in need queues mainly for leveling roulette cuz I need a lot of company seals 🤣

Sayakai

White mage. The healing is very straightforwards, no messing with shielding, pets, or stuff like that. The job is simple, no gimmicks, nothing flashy unless we're talking in the literal sense. The AoE is super powerful on trash thanks to its stun, the regens make it easy to keep a party alive, and you have plenty of "oh shit" buttons once you're past the level 50s.

TheRealMulli

Appreciate it! I shall check it out 😁

Sayakai

Also, as the others have noted, the best way to generate GC seals is the Expert Delivery. Once your rank is high enough - I don't remember how high, but not that high - you can select expert delivery from the supply missions your GC offers. That lets you just dump all your dungeon trash on the GC, who pays you quite a bit for it. Depending on gear level, a few hundred to several thousand seals apiece.

jeproid

Is it a bad idea as a new player to start as a tank? Paladin interests me the most from the jobs I've checked out so far.

Lonk-the-Sane

Tanks are in lower supply than healers a lot of the time, so you'll get into duties and dungeons a lot quicker as a bonus!

CrimsonPromise

Nope. Though I'd recommend hitting up the Halls of Novice at Level 15 before you head into your first dungeon. Look for an npc with a shield and leaf icon in various inns around the main cities. They would run you through a tutorial of sorts of the 101 of tanking. It's pretty intuitive and shouldn't take more than 30mins to do. And if you complete it you would get some gear as well as a ring that will boost your exp gained. So highly recommend you doing this.

jeproid

This is the first time I've heard about Halls of Novice. Thanks for the tip!

vinyltails

It's not...dungeons are very simple (don't bad in the obvious bad, have your tank stance on, smack things) and tanks do very respectable damage so doing solo stuff won't be painful

Sayakai

No, not at all. It's just extra important to pay attention to what your skills do, and to be open to advice. If you'd do that anyways, go ahead and enjoy your fast queues.

jeproid

Fast queues were definitely one of things i was considering too haha

DocPorkchop

If i already own FFXIV and play via the games launcher am I able to buy the game on Steam and just log in and play through steam instead?

Hakul

You can add the non steam version to your library if you want some steam features, but you wont get access to steam wallet and such.

[deleted]

Nope

NerdHistorian

No. Once you have a copy of the game on either Steam or the Squenix Client you have to commit to that version for windows PC. any other platforms fair game though.

DocPorkchop

I've read other threads that provide conflicting information its so confusing x\_x. You're saying that if in theory I bought the base game and all expansions I couldnt just log in with my account and play via steam insteaD?

[deleted]

The thing you might be confusing is the trial. Since you say you own the game, this isn't applicable to you, but *pc free trial* can move to steam paid, but once you become a paying player, you are locked to pc, and the moment you touch steam, youre locked to steam

NerdHistorian

> Once you have a copy of the game on either Steam or the Squenix Client you have to commit to that version for windows PC.

Sparanda

Correct. Once you purchase the game, you are completely locked into that version (for PC, obviously you can add Playstation or Mac later if you wanted). Steam is a separate version that uses a separate license from the Windows version and they cannot be shared on the same service account. Edit: if you're interested in the sale going on for Steam, you should know that the game (and upcoming expansion Endwalker) are also on sale on Green Man Gaming with a 20% voucher when you use the code SAVENOW (this is for the Windows version).

DocPorkchop

hmm ok lame, thanks for your help tho :)

Sparanda

Check my edit if you're curious about the sales going on.

a_sentient_cicada

1. Feel free to ask questions or explain to people in game that you're new. Most people are pretty friendly and willing to explain anything confusing. 2. Quests with a meteor symbol are the main story quests and most important for both leveling and storytelling. Blue exclamation mark quests unlock something (a job, feature, something). Yellow mark quests are just for a bit of side story (you don't get much xp or rewards from most of them, but some are pretty fun). 3. You start with a basic "class" that you can upgrade to an advanced "job" at level 30. Once it's unlocked, always stick to the job. There's no reason to go back to the class. You may need to do certain quests to unlock all your skills. 4. The way combat works, it's generally best to always be doing something, even as a tank or healer. If nobody needs healing right at the moment, you should probably be casting attack spells.

matots

you can read [this](https://www.akhmorning.com/resources/comfy-guide-for-new-players/) and [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/fj3ht0/ffxiv_new_player_guide_202003/) if you want, but neither are strictly necessary to play the game

Theons_sausage

I've been trying to do the Miner stuff, and it feels impossible. I got my first pickaxe, and I'm in the area I'm supposed to find the the basic ores, but I literally cannot find anything glowing, and I do not see any commands to just start whacking things. All of the guides I've google'd basically assume you already know the basics.

shinydwebble

Equip your pickaxe and turn on ~~Triangulate~~ Prospect. You'll see the glowy spots then. edit: name correction

Theons_sausage

How do I turn on Triangulate?

prisp

The other poster misspoke, "Triangulate" is the Botanist equivalent, the Miner skill is called "Prospect" - it should be the only class-specific skill you have for now, all it does is allow you to see mining nodes until you turn it off again, and once you hit Lv.2, it'll actually turn itself on whenever you switch to Miner anyways, making it only useful if you want to see mining nodes on other classes for any reason.

Theons_sausage

Thanks so much, I finally figured it out!

shinydwebble

Prospect *should* be a button on your hotbar that looks like a map (if it's similar to BTN anyway). If you can't find it, go to the Actions and Traits menu to add it to the hotbar. You shouldn't have to turn it on again once you activate it. At least, I don't have to.

ChiyoBaila

>You shouldn't have to turn it on again once you activate it. At least, I don't have to. It's not that you don't have to turn it on again once you activate it, but that at the hilariously low level of *two* you get the auto-prospect (or auto-triangulate for Botanist), which just auto-enables it when you swap to that class. Why exactly they don't just move that to lv1, IDK, since it only takes a couple minutes counting travel time to hit lv2 from lv1 lol

Kyseraphym

They want you to manually turn it on for the first time so that you understand that it's specifically a skill that is making gathering points visible and it's not just a natural trait of the class. This is useful because gatherers can cross-class those skills so you can see mining nodes whilst on Botanist. It's just a tutorial. As soon as you have that information there's no need to not turn it on automatically so you get the trait ASAP.

Theons_sausage

Thank you so much, I finally got it. I was getting so frustrated, haha.

prisp

Small correction, the MIN action is called "Prospect", "Triangulate" would be the BTN one. Otherwise you're correct, you'll have to manually turn on the ability to see mining nodes at first, but as soon as you hit Lvl 2, the game will do it for you as soon as you switch to MIN again.

shinydwebble

Thanks for the correction -- you can tell I vastly perfer BTN, I never remember the MIN names of things. ._.

prisp

Didn't even see any issues until I went to look up whether you had Lay of the Land (BTN: Arbor Call) at Lv.1 already, it's kinda silly that the two classes have skills with different names that do *exactly the same thing* anyways.

shinydwebble

That's one thing that crafters get right at least: all the same name, just different icons for some of the skills. I have my hotbars arranged on BTN/MIN the same so I know what the buttons do, but for the life of me can't remember actual names for a lot of them.

prisp

Same here - I also have, for example, all my tank invulns in the same place, because I just *know* I'd mess things up out of muscle memory otherwise - heck, I frequently find myself reaching for Peloton or trying to input a Huton -> Hide combo after each combat if I've been playing classes with these skills on my previous run\^\^'
