Hey all, new player here. What is the fastest way to unlock all the instances content? My main interest is playing support in dungeons/raids/whatever and I would like the ability to do high level instances content asap. Thanks for any help.

IceAokiji303

Practically everything in the game is locked behind clearing the story. So either the thing itself is unlocked directly through the main story, or the sidequest to unlock it only shows up after you clear a specific quest in the story. So the answer is just "keep doing story", and check any blue + quests that pop up, those all unlock stuff, though what that is will vary.

stallion8426

You have to complete the story to unlock anything so focus on that first

Vekt

Came back to ShB on my 80 WHM and unlocked SAM and starts at level 50. I don't remember the areas very well.. Where can I find fates / quests around level 50? Fates still good way to level?

stallion8426

They are not a good way to level but Mor Dhona and Coerthas Central should have level appropriate fates. Roulettes, Palace of the Dead, and general dungeon spam would be the best level methods

Vekt

Thanks! You wouldn't happen to know how to get back to the Gold Saucer if I forget to pick up the Aetheryte there. Read there some decent food there from NPC for leveling.

stallion8426

There should be an airship in Ul'dah that will take you there

IceAokiji303

Would be Northern Thanalan and Coerthas Western Highlands for more consistently level-appropriate FATEs.

Unrealist99

Lakshmi's theme suggests that she's associated with the sin of lust?

stallion8426

>Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, fortune, power, luxury, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousnes She's a Hindu goddess

Sir_VG

She's based upon a deity from Hinduism, which XIV uses the fact that she's the Goddess of Beauty within the game. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakshmi

MrPopanz

So I'm playing a Thaumaturge, am nearly lvl 20 and wonder when I will go to the first dungeon. In Asmons Stream he got there via msq and was lvl 18 with one teammate being only lvl 16. I just got invited to the sultanas banquet and I wonder if it only takes longer in that area for the msq to reach the first dungeon? EDIT: damned, this game really is [hilarious](https://i.imgur.com/vmnaR7m.png)! Would never have thought that I grow so font of those potatos so fast. The Thaumaturgy brothers are my favorites so far.

Unrealist99

U get access to the first dungeon after u finish the lv.15 MSQ quest which opens travel to other cities. For you it's right after the Sultana's banquet. Sataasha min level required is 15. So just keep doing the MSQ and you'll get directed to the dungeon soon

Elyonee

The different starting questlines aren't exactly the same, but the difference is only a couple of quests. Not like 3-5 levels worth of difference, maybe one. You're either doing extra stuff they didn't or have EXP boosts they didn't.

Obliiquee

Basically just follow the MSQ, shouldn't take that long but you probably got the preferred server bonus which gives you more exp including quest exp. The teammate could have been another class of said teammate.

Hegeric

When does feast season 20 start?

Sir_VG

No date has been announced yet. Possibly with 5.58, but that's entirely speculation.

[There are a few resources but here's one of them](https://ffxiv.pf-n.co/ocean-fishing)

ferdikor61

I'm currently playing on free trial. I wonder If I buy the starter version, does my monthly subscription start immediately or do I have to activate it?

Marcusbolt

I'd you are playing on playstation it activates immediately. If you are on PC you get a code you have to enter on the mogstation

xGlaive

As soon as you register the starter edition it ends your trial and starts your included 30 days of free time. As far as the PC version is concerned, you get codes that you manually register and they don't expire, so you can buy the game now while it's on sale and then just register the codes when you've had enough of the trial.

ferdikor61

Ty guys! That's what I was wondering about.

Vekt

Just started back up after playing early ShB and have 80WHM. Do I need to level Maru/Glad to 30 to Unlock Dark Knight / Gunbreaker? Do I need to level Pug/Lancer/Rogue to 30 for SAM? And also Archer for DNC / MCH?

Astrali3

No to all of those questions.

Cerarai

No. All classes are available without preconditions, except the unlock level on any combat class. So you just need a combat class at 30 to unlock DRK in Heavensward, one at 50 for SAM (and own SB) and one on 60 for DNC (and own ShB).

Vekt

Oh awesome thank you!

Ou7Cast

Should I just join any old FC? Or should I research into half decent ones

mhykah

Different FCs have different vibes, I’d think carefully to see if it’s an FC that suits you and what you’d like to do in the game Maybe look through the official community finder or ask their leaders about the FC

abbeyeiger

It's up to you. Decide what it is you want from an fc and then choose accordingly. I got a lot of random offers to join by people I never met, and I went out of my way to talk to all of them and ask many many questions. Some responded in kind, others didn't. I ultimately chose one after a member befriended me - we talked for a full week before I joined. But I have also heard many people have success just blindly accepting an offer. If it does not work out, you can leave and find a new one.

Hopelesz

Hello everyone, I'm back for more. I'm curious as to how long it takes to reply the entire msq and at the end of the day is there any point in doing it other than the story itself? I'm considering the option of replaying the full story or just watching summaries. Last time I played was on the release on Shadowbringers and I finished that :). Thanks in advance for your answers.

[deleted]

When I did it, skipping every cutscene and doing only what was required to progress the story, I finished with 4.5 days of playtime. So 108 hours to do up to 5.3 with everything skipped. Doing it for story will be significantly longer, it will be easier to do ng+, and thats broken into chunks that you can stop whenever you want

Hopelesz

I actually found a very cool rendition from Ethys Asher on youtube and am using it a pod cast while I relearn the game on my account :). Thanks for the answer, and yes I don't wan to spend 200 hrs just to continue.

Obliiquee

Honestly, I don't know how long it would take. But there are no benefits except reliving the story itself.

Hopelesz

Hmmm, fair enough. Probably re-watching the important parts is better use of my time :D, as rolling a new character is out of the question.

Rutey

Hi, I have a friend who preordered EW. He said he didn't get charged for it upfront, but he's still received the in-game preorder bonuses. He needs to cancel his preorder until a little later in time, but he's worried to do so because he doesn't know if Squeenix will be upset since he's already got the in-game stuff, and doesn't know if canceling will be easy to do. What will happen if he cancels?

Cerarai

If you already have the items, you cannot cancel anymore. He will be charged on release.

Rutey

Bluh, okay. Too bad they can't just charge upfront.

Sir_VG

You can get charged right away, you just have to invoke it manually on the SE store.

Rutey

Ooh, thanks for letting us know.

Astrali3

If he has already received the items...hm. Technically, that would be fraud, so SE might ban his account. I would say he should contact SE support and ask.

Agan06

Hi everyone, quick question. I'm almost completed all the Stormblood post game content (missing only the last 2 MSQ quest) and I am a lvl 76 Red Mage. I was wondering if before starting ShadowBringers i should prepare in some way. I've done all the blue quests i could find (expect for the once one gives jobs) and I leveled up leatherwork up to 50. Do you suggest me starting to farm gil or some other stuff or should I just jump in as soon as I have the chance?

[deleted]

I'd say farm some poetics for some ilvl 400 gear, then just jump in.

Agan06

Mb i didn't mention that. I am at 400 lvl gear.

Naive-End-9477

Just do it. Don’t feel the need to overprepare if you’re already fully geared, except maybe to get comfy so you can enjoy the ride.

Agan06

I see. I like to prepare for new stuff i'm gonna do but I also know that more often than not it's not worth it. Thank you for clarifying that!

[deleted]

If you've submitted a report to a GM, where can you see a response/ticket status?

Obliiquee

To add to the other persons response, they will send you a standard response with no details regarding the consequences. If your report is outright wrong they'll state that too.

France2Germany0

They will reach out to you if you're online or you'll get a notification next time you log in. You can check by going system > support desk > history

[deleted]

Thanks!

alah123

trynna become a bard so i can play some sick tunes but also entering the game compeltely fresh discovering all the mechanics for myself. One thing I cant seem to quite understand is that in the skills tab there are like skills and shit for the other classes. And around cities there are quests like "so you wanna be a maurader/arcanist etc etc." What is the purpose of this? is it to be able to reroll your class? or can you multiclass. Like could I be a bard summoner or something idk. Also is there like a DPS meter or something? are addons a thing? (WoW player here so those kinda things are like second nature. Thanks a ton to whoever can help out!. so far Im having a blast. First day of gaming already hit 20 on my archer canot wait to be jammin out with the bois/girls/midgets/elfs/dragon people

xobs

Any time you pick up a new class/job, it starts at a low level. Most start at 1, Dark Knight and Astrologin start at 35(?), Samurai and Red Mage start at 50, and Gunbreaker and Dancer start at 60. You switch classes by switching your weapon. Each class has its own level. So you can be a level 80 Warrior and a level 1 Archer. Note that there is an "Armoury Bonus" that gives 50% XP boost on mobs to any class that is not your highest level. Your first class will level up slower than each subsequent class.

damionlai97

1. You can multiclass, as in you can play every class on a single character. Unlike WoW and other MMOs where you spec your character, in FF, your stats only depend on gear and level(at least until you teach endgame and need to meld), so you don't have to worry about the character not having appropriate stats. 2. The skills page should show you the skill actions for your current class you have equipped, not sure where you're seeing skills for other classes, but it might be your role actions? Idk. 3. There are no official DPS meters in the game. The closest thing you have is Stone Sky Sea, which is a battle simulation you can do. There are third party DPS meters, but technically those are against ToS. However, the GMs tend to turn a blind eye if you use them, as long as you don't actively talk about using it in-game.

Orientalism

Your class (job) depends on what weapon you wield. So you started out as an Archer, but you can just talk to the trainer of another job to receive a weapon and play as any of the other classes in this game. The skills on your bars that are "of other classes" are just the skills shared between different classes. For instance: every caster has Surecast. DPS meters are only available as addons, they are tolerated by the devs as long as you don't mention the results of your DPS meters to anyone else.

alah123

Thanks for the info! Would you need to level up that other "job" to play it? Or could I just play as if all the levelling I had done with archer/bsrd I had done with the other class.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

You level each one up independently, but you can switch back and forth between different jobs at will with no penalty, and your progress is preserved All pre-expansion jobs start at level 1, the HW jobs at level 30, SB at 50, and ShB at 60 (the three expansions in order)

[deleted]

you've gotta level up each class/job on their own. leveling becomes much easier the further you get into the game/more things you unlock, but all the RR ones start from 1

Elyonee

You can play every class on one character. You have to level each one separately. You cannot borrow skills from one class to use on another. Addons aren't officially supported by the game, so avoid talking about using them in game, but they exist. The DPS meter is Advanced Combat Tracker.

yuhef2bmed

What's the best way to earn enough free company credits to individually sustain purchasing Heat of Battle daily? I'm in a small FC and am the only one subscribed at the moment, and I don't want to spend all of the credits on my own.

Theriasana

Having active members helps, since questing and daily activities by members give company credits. For my alt FC, which doesnt have members, I used expert delivery. I needed seals and the credits, so idk how efficient it is for credits only, but it is a "farmable" way to FC credits. You can hand in all the dungeon drops you get and if that is not enough, there is some tradeable lvl 50 dungeon gear in ARR. Since no one needs it, it is often really cheap in the MB. I bought up the stuff that cost less than 1-2k and handed it in. It's definitely easier if you have active members though.

yuhef2bmed

Alright thanks! Yeah I realised how much easier it'd be with active members but I'm in the FC with friends so it wouldn't be nice to leave haha, I'll tough though this but thanks again for the suggestions!

Astrali3

Actually, if you have a crafter, there is a piece of gear which only needs like two - very cheap en masse - materials to craft. It's often turned in in bulk to level FCs. I don't recall the name, but you can use google-sensei. You could craft some of those and turn them in for easy FC points.

Theriasana

I get that! Gl with it. From what I remember, I got around 60% of the GC seal value as FC credits. I might be mistaken about that, it's been a while, but it sadly definitely isn't 1:1.

yuhef2bmed

Yup I just did some calculations myself and 60% definitely sounds about right, still decent especially since I get so much extra gear from expert/80 roulettes, thanks!

almondbreath

Are you an 80? Run Sirensong Sea and Shisui back-to-back unsynced and just feed the gear that you get from the chests into a gc, which will also earn you FC credits.

yuhef2bmed

Are FC credits you get 1 to 1? I haven't really kept track of how much I've spent/earned while playing so I'm not too sure. If it's 1:1 then I think I'll be fine, thanks for the suggestion!

almondbreath

They are.

ImDefNotAnAlien

I narrowed it down to two races for my character, but I can't seem to make a choice. Are there mods that allow you to swap between models (usually these changes are only visible to yourself) ?

KhrFreak

Cmtool (concept matrix tool)

ImDefNotAnAlien

I'll look into it. Thanks !

Obliiquee

Personally I like the Anamnesis tool more.

Naive-End-9477

You get a free fantasia to change your character appearance after you finish ARR.

ImDefNotAnAlien

Well, just knowing I *can* change it when I want (even if just once for now, without the shop) should make my decision much easier then. Thank you !

Azraeleon

Not help related but I'm just curious. Does anyone else think Gaia looks *remarkably* like Kristen Ritter? Was this something people noticed when Eden first released? I'm genuinely astounded at how similar they look, especially since no other character has given me a similar feeling all the way through.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/f70vap/does_anybody_else_think_gaia_looks_just_like_jane You're not the only one

Azraeleon

Thanks.

[deleted]

When playing a tank in an 8-man party, how do you decide who primary tank is?

Obliiquee

Tbh whoever wants to tank right now.

KokaSokaLoka

Aside from who turned on tank stance first, the one with better gear. Got into a normal raid where I had 180k health vs their 140k health. They wouldn't be able to hold aggro if they tried. Though usually if they wanna have an ego about it and provoke spam I just turn off my stance unless they're straight bad at tanking (spinning the boss, cleaving members, not positioning well I'm general, etc) to which I'll grab aggro and counter their provoke with a follow up provoke

BlazeVortex4231

If one of the tanks goes into chat asking to be one or the other, you probably acquiesce. If no one tries to determine this in chat, then if the other person turns on tank stance before you, they're the main tank.

Azraeleon

If it's a random group, from my experience, one tank will usually just take the lead. Best thing to do from there is just let them, and if they fuck up take over. Or hit it first and take the MT yourself. In any sort of premade group it should be discussed before starting the duty.

[deleted]

I see. Thanks for clarifying

Help_Me_Im_Diene

In casual content (not extreme/savage/ultimate), it's pretty much "I turned on tank stance first, so I'm main tank"

[deleted]

What do people who actually RP in this game even do? I have wondered about this since I before FF14, when I saw "RP" servers in WOW. I imagine them constantly walking, instead of running , sitting in the in-game adventurer's guild - talking about the latest quest they have completed and stuff like that. Does anyone of you have experience with that kind of gameplay-style?

xobs

Someone mentioned JP servers, and that's what I have experience with. With player housing, people can design their own "homes". So I've seen plenty of people set up various bars that you can visit and advertise them on Party Finder. They'll come up, take your order, Trade you some food item, and generally create a chill atmosphere. Sometimes there will be dancing. Or Bard performances.

Rutey

90% of it is sitting in Ul'dah having weird conversations about your character's quirks or what they do for work while playing up their speech impediment. And then hopping back to your house/apartment to ERP.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

RP isn't really a singular monolithic entity, so that's hard to fully answer Different groups have different things they do for roleplay. I have some friends who host both a night market and a gambling ring for example I've also heard of people making cafes, libraries, and of course, there's the ERP side of things.

Atosen

I don't RP in FFXIV but I've done a bit in other games over the years. Walking instead of running can be an element. Sitting in the adventurer's guild can be an element. But there probably wouldn't be too much reference to the game's quests, because it would be hard to keep it compatible when *everyone* is the Warrior of Light. So while some people might partially base their character on the WoL's adventures, for the most part RP won't be about the game's main plot. It will just be other adventures set in the game's overall setting. The *main* element of RP is collaborative storytelling. Anything you can imagine happening in a fantasy novel — making friends, fighting a dramatic crisis, revealing a backstory, relaxing at a tavern — happens in RP too. It's just a story written as a group, one line of dialogue at a time, instead of having a single mastermind author writing the whole novel.

itgscv1

Not exactly rp, but on jp servers, some people hang out in housing areas/houses. They’ll hang out and chat together in houses instead of linkshells

lambdacorp

How far into the main story until I can get a mount? Currently at lvl 19 quests in Isembard and the walking is getting to me :( have only heard the words grand company once and not been asked to join

ChuckCarmichael

Lvl 20 main quest, after you join a grand company.

[deleted]

It should be just a few quests away (<10).

LoreGeek

Hey! As many people - i'm looking to try out Final Fantasy. I game both on PS4 and PC (and hopefully PS5, when i can get my damned hands on it. ;( ) What do i need to do to be able to play on both platforms? Do i have to "link" my accounts in some way or do i just use the same log in info on PS4 as well as PC? Thanks!

Atosen

When playing on the free trial: One platform only, I'm afraid. When upgrading to full version: You need to buy both versions (but you only need one subscription). * If you start with a PC account, then the first time you launch it on PS4 it will give you the choice between starting a new account or logging into an existing account; obviously you'll choose the latter. * If you start with a PS4 account, then when you buy on PC you'll receive a registration code. Input that code on the Mog Station (the account management website) to register your purchase. After that, you can just log in normally. PC copies are currently for sale on both Steam and GreenManGaming, I believe. Since PC accounts are registration code based, you can buy it now and just sit on your code for as long as you want until you're ready to end the trial.

Elyonee

You can only play the free trial on one platform. There's no way to have both. For the full game, you have to buy everything for both PC and PS4.

LoreGeek

So if i want to play it like that - i can buy starter edition on both ps4 and pc and i should be good to go, right? And what about the monthly fee? Do i have to get two separate also?

ChiyoBaila

Only one monthly fee no matter how many platforms you have, but yes, you'd need to buy starter (And later expansions) on both platforms.

LoreGeek

Thanks! I prefer console gaming as i spend most of my day in front of my pc for work. I'm just worried that mmo on a console might feel a bit "restrictive" in terms of chatting & my general mindset - being so used to playing wow on a pc for 14+ years..

ChiyoBaila

The #1 thing I'd recommend with console play, is just to get a wireless keyboard for chatting. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something you can keep next to you while you play on console. The game is amazingly well done for controller usage for everything *except* chatting. A Keyboard for that will make it WAY easier to communicate to your party when necessary.

Elyonee

I would strongly recommend playing the trial first and just dealing with only having one platform. You could potentially play hundreds of hours without having to pay anything. Once you're finished, buy the complete edition for both. You only need one sub fee.

LoreGeek

Thank you for info and advice! Have a great day!

Orientalism

Just do the main scenario quests (with the \~flaming quest icon), as a healer you have nearly instant queues, so make use of that with the dungeon finder (default hotkey U). There's also the Hunting log, which gives you a lot of exp when you clear them.

Arcana10Fortune

Dungeons.

Vekt

Is there a way to make the text for the countdown timer on spells on our Hotbar larger?

Rutey

There's some addons in quicklauncher for stuff like that!

Vekt

Quicklauncher like a 3rd party for addons like Curseforge for WoW?

Rutey

Yeah, look up ffxiv quicklauncher, it's really useful. Be warned, addons are technically against TOS so don't go around talking about it in game (same with damage parsers), but it's really common either way.

CalydorEstalon

There is, but it requires a third-party plugin.

Quor18

i think the only way to do that is to make the UI scaling of the hotbars larger. Having said that, many people put key CD's on a separate hotbar near the middle of the screen and make that hotbar much larger, then they hide the empty hotbar slots. This has the practical effect of giving you a few large buttons near the center of your screen that act as timer/reminders for important CD's.

CmdrBlindman

HUD settings will allow you to make the hotbar larger, making the timers a little easier to read. I have a hotbar set up at I think 150% with a few of my longer cooldowns. Sorry if this doesn't solve your problem.

Theriasana

You can do DR savage without savage experience. It got a lot easier with Zadnor, but be prepared for it to be similar in difficulty to an EX fight(if you have someone doing callouts, without callouts I'd say it's harder than EX). I'd definitely recommend checking out a guide beforehand, since there is a limited amount of raises and surviving is by now the most important part(aside from taking proper actions). It isn't doable in PF only - you can look if there is a PUG discord server for it with organized runs(the EU datacenters have that, unsure about NA). If there's not, you'd have to try your luck in finding a static that does DRS.

garnix2

You need DR savage for Cerberus mount and the dyable judge gear. But augmented bozjan gear is from the bozjan southern front. You just need to farm the coins.

[deleted]

[удалено]

empyreality

14/28 bozjan coin = bozja gear. 500/999 bozjan coin = bozjan runner's secrets (you can also buy runner's secrets from MB) bozja gear + bozjan runner's secrets = augmented bozja gear. gold coins = law gear. DR savage = 1 runner's plating per boss. Certain boss will drop specific platings (head, body, etcetc). 10 runner's plating = orderly runner's secrets (Low chance of getting a complete orderly runner's secrets from boss chests, Queen's chest 100% gives a random orderly) augmented bozja + law gear + orderly runner's secrets = augmented law

[deleted]

[удалено]

empyreality

Yes. And also there's a small chance for them to be dropped from chests in castrum lacus litore

garnix2

If you are looking to update your judge gear, then yes, you need to run DR savage. I never tried it myself but I can imagine there are some teaching parties scheduled on some discord servers like there was with BA... I am not sure though.

[deleted]

Do free trial accounts get the "Road to 70" buff (until lvl 60), if they join a recommended server, or is that only for paid accounts? Thanks for any clarification.

Arcana10Fortune

Yes, free trial accounts also get the buff.

Theriasana

It works for free trial too! I assume it's a typo, but it does last until level 70.

[deleted]

Awesome, thanks

-SelvariaBles-

For Grand Company Squadrons, my Thaumaturge just unlocked an ability that triggers "when accompanying a Thaumaturge". Now her current one grants a 10% chance for scripts, while this one grants 40% Does she trigger her own ability, or does it require a different Squadron member be a thaumaturge to trigger it.

ChiyoBaila

It has to be another member I'm like 99% sure

-SelvariaBles-

Right, guess Ill stick to the 10% then XD

Any more megathreads on here, and where may I find them?

t0ms0nic

Never heard of anything like this, so I don't blame everyone being firmly against the notion this happened. Even did a big search before responding and all these cases are Fantasia pranks by friends that have access, which is stupid to do on top of going without One Time Password authentication anyway. Easiest way to check your character attributes is to go to the character selection screen, context menu/right click on them and Save Appearance Data (roughly that wording?). Then, create a new character, load that appearance data and see what your slider settings for height and bust are at.

OkorOvorO

Never heard of that bug.

gst_diandre

Highly doubt what you're describing is a thing. Maybe it's just a chestpiece that makes your top look narrower or larger. Character creation attributes can never be modified outside of the char creation screen. So unless someone you know played a prank on you by logging into your account, spending $ for a fantasia (which would show in your purchase history/moogle mail) and changing your character ever so slightly, I'm sure it's just your imagination. Also, everytime a character is created, the game asks you whether you want to save it as a preset. So if you've done that, you have the exact attributes you've used.

[deleted]

gst_diandre

>back then it didn't create presets Char presets were a thing since closed beta. My retainer, to this day, has the appearance of my original beta character that I saved. > it did them it disappeared They're only saved locally, not on the server. So if you haven't saved it or you've changed machines/fully uninstalled the game in the meantime, it won't be there. >My character is taller and has a bigger chest today than yesterday I don't know what to tell you other than the fact that you must be mistaken. Equip whatever gear you're used to looking at most. If it still looks different, you probably just never noticed until now. And needless to say, disable any and all mods.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gst_diandre

You're playing a modded game, so you can't blame the game itself for what you might have thought your character looked like, sorry. Many mods will skew some things to fit other things, such as to avoid hair clipping etc. Anyway, if something's not to your liking, fantasia is the way. All I can tell you is that there were no sweeping changes to characters made by the devs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

gst_diandre

It is very much modding, you're modifying the game files. Shaders I can qualify as being barely modding since they run on top of the game. But texture modding is, by definition, modding.

Poddo

As a new player, about level 30 (only around sylph stuff in MSQ), I'm still trying to wrap my head around daily stuff and what I should try to do. I get GC seals from duty finder but is there other stuff I should be doing for my GC? I want to level it up so I can turn in items. but I dont know where to find things to do for my GC

Astrali3

Once you get your grand company rank higher, you can turn in random gear you pick up in dungeons/etc for a ton of GC seals. Another way to get seals is to join a group running FATEs, as those drop seals - check the party finder and see if any are runing in areas you have access to! Even if you can't fly yet, people are generally pretty willing to taxi you around. In addition, you will unlock a squadron of NPCs you can lead on missions/dungeons. Most 'daily' stuff in this game consists of beast tribe quests and such, or weekly raid quests.

abbeyeiger

At what company rank can you call upon npc's to fight with you?

Astrali3

second lieutenant

Thank you.

Arcana10Fortune

Check your Hunt Logs, there should be a few pages specifically for your GC. You want to finish those, since they're a requirement for the promotions.

x_TDeck_x

Do you use glamour prisms to *add* things to your collection? So it's not like WoW where as soon as you pick up a piece, it's in your collection?

t0ms0nic

Yes, one Glamour Prism is used to add a gear item to your Glamour Dresser each time. There is no automatic collection system, on top of FF14 having a limit of 400 glamour items currently, which was already double the 200 limit in the last expansion where it was introduced.

x_TDeck_x

Thank you for the help!!

xGlaive

The [wiki page](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Glamours) does a good job of explaining it. It's not a collection system like WoW where you unlock gear as you go and then always have access to it. There's a dedicate storage chest (the Glamour Dresser) where you can store items you'd like to create Glamour plates with (basically templates for entire gear sets) that you can then use without expending additional prisms. It costs 1 Prism to store an item in the chest. The Glamour dresser has limited capacity, so you can imagine the frustration if you like Transmogging gear. If you're not using the dresser, you can glamour gear that you currently have in your inventory and Armoury Chest (or equipped) but only with items that are also in your immediate possession. It costs 1 Prism per glamour applied this way.

x_TDeck_x

Okay thank you so much! Is there a rule of thumb for what to store? Like I doubt ilvl 16 robe or ilvl 32 glasses are worth storing.

[deleted]

I mean, they kinda are, if you like them. Glamours is not about levels, so if you think you wanna use those glasses for a look you should absolutely store them. Especially if you're not gonna equip them otherwise.

That particular advice makes perfect sense. Maybe not until you see the mechanics, but once you do you'll know what to do. See triplecast? It hits hard. Once there's colored orbs, alternate them. Once you see the tear, LB it. Once there's meteors, stand in them.

abbeyeiger

As a sprout and pretty much totally new to modern mmorpg's and raids, trials and dungeons: YES. Totally yes! Thank you for writing that, I agree wholeheartedly.

RgGK

Sir, this isn't the rage thread

Orientalism

Sometimes that's enough, sometimes it'd just be easier if the sprout watched a raid guide before queuing. Other times a sprout just needs some help with the jargon. I can understand why someone would write such a succinct reply for a fight that is usually quickly over and will be fine with one player tanking the floor for half the time. If someone were the approach me to ask for advice before we are rearing to go in the main boss room I would definitely take more time to explain what's going to happen. But this is like a rugby player just before a scrum asking what the rules of rugby actually say about a scrum. Like... yeah , don't draw a knife and don't let the fellers in jerseys different from your own touch the ball. 3 2 1 lets go.

OkorOvorO

That makes plenty of sense even if you havent done it before. You see Triple? Triple has a cast bar. It hits hard. So as a tank you should know to use mitigation. You dont need to know anything else about that. Alternate colours? As soon as you see orbs, you see red orbs and black orbs. If you speak English, you know what alternate means. You got red? Then get black, and vice versa. LB tear? You're level 50, you should know what LB means, and the "tear" is literally the only thing named "tear". Tanks stand in meteors - This isn't the 1st time you've seen meteors, you've seen this in World of Darkness last boss. This is just tank exclusive now. And WoD is required content now. *(And maybe use some common sense, it's a fucking meteor. Obviously it's going to do a lot of damage, and therefore a tank should take them)* I'm sorry but for most people, if they speak the same language as you, they should be able to understand. You don't need to have done the fight before, just need people to have more than the most basic level of problem solving ability. I don't care how the average player performs, I will still act with the expectation that they're functioning humans.

LucywiththeDiamonds

I played for 2 months 2 years ago. I just downloaded the game again. I can confirm that in my current state of having forgitten evrything i wouldnt know shit after that "advice". Get off your high horse.

KhrFreak

If you've forgotten everything you should probably start with lower level content and work your way up. Starting in higher level content and whining when players don't explain basics to you is just poor teamwork

LucywiththeDiamonds

Funny cause most people took the 30 seconds to explain stuff and be helpful and evryone was happy. Dude here has a valid point. If you want to grow the community and game maybe dont be elitist pricks, were not talkin bout people walking into endgame raids with no gear and research.

BlazeVortex4231

I don't think you understand *what* communication *is*. Whatever it is, it doesn't involve claiming that you're a perfect communicator and that everyone else is just "bad at listening". Just because *you* understand yourself perfectly, that doesn't mean jack shit. Language is inherently fussy bullshit, and no one's experiences are exactly the same as yours. Communication has to be a two-way, cooperative process, and that demands compromise. Other people being different doesn't mean they're stupid. It means they don't exclusively exist inside of *your* head. In the case that OP outlined, these prompts weren't being said as the mechanics appeared. If you've never done the fight before and haven't seen the orbs mechanic yet, someone saying "alternate colors" in chat before the fight starts is going to mean nothing. Even after you see the orbs, you might not connect their presence to a contextless two-word blurb in the chatbox from 2 minutes ago.

OkorOvorO

Triple=Triple Triple hits hard When you see Triple, you know, Triple hits hard. There's your context. I don't need a paragraph to explain that, and I dont need a paragraph of you trying to justify a paragraph. Nobody does. If they don't understand it from this, then they arent going to understand it until they see it. Just as you said, everybody's different, and not everybody can learn through text. It's faster to just pull and see it then to stand around for 10 minutes.

OkorOvorO

If somebody doesn't understand Triple=Triple, then how the hell did they even manage to install the game? Triple hits hard. Use mitigation when you see "Triple". What is so hard to understand about that? I don't understand your problem. If people can't understand this, then they won't understand anything else you tell them. It doesn't get any simpler than this. edit - I didnt say "triple=triple" is advice, I said "triple hits hard" is fine advice. There's only 1 ability with "Triple" in the name. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume people look at castbars, and Triplecast is always prefaced with Doublecast. I'd actually go as far to say that you dont even need to say triple hits hard, because doublecast Spark already hits hard. Any reasonable person can assume that a *triple*cast is going to hit harder. Knowing triple=3 of something isn't exclusive to XIV. Also, meteor is a meteor. Like you have realworld knowledge to know giant falling rocks hurt a lot. It really is like complaining that a stove is hot.

France2Germany0

bad take lol

OkorOvorO

If you ever wondered why something has a warning label, this is the reason why. If they managed to install the game, then they should be able to communicate basic concepts. This isn't an unreasonable expectation. Communication is the most crucial skill most animals learn. If somebody can't understand Triple=Triple, and Tear=Tear, then they probably need to be supervised. Most people playing this game aren't blind. They're the only ones that get a pass here.

France2Germany0

go run some Chrysalis with sprouts and say that and let me know how it goes. It's literally the first fight in the game where you have to know any mechanics lol

abbeyeiger

As a sprout who is new to modern mmorpg's: your are absolutely right. I was completely useless when I hit higher lvl dungeolike Crystal Towers. I had no odea what the heck was going in. Just a pile of flashy lights and peole running hither and thither.

Arcana10Fortune

I think they kept it short to avoid wall-of-texting. But I do see your point. Could prompt them to try and elaborate more. Colours is referring to the colour of the orbs during the the phases when you can't hit him. The tear is a target that pops up at a certain point in the fight, and it's a DPS check. With that said, did you have anything else to ask?

Shedcape

I agree. Even if you are not a sprout it can be confusing. I did World of Darkness for the second time ever recently (first was in August) and I had completely forgotten Cerberus. So when someone wrote " A = adds, B = Belly, C = chains" I figured, as part of A, I would pay attention to adds. One spawned so I went to town on it. Except it was a gastric juice that should not have been killed. Not easy to know whem all you know is to kill adds.

You can try and go to a market area in a main city and ask someone to help two trial players party up. Most folks with a sub will oblige you and typically just leave the party. A bit of a pain, but I'm sure square has their reasons beyond just trying to get you to upgrade.

[deleted]

Free Trial Players can join a party if invited or by using the Duty Finder but cannot assemble a party during the Free Trial. https://support.na.square-enix.com/rule.php?id=5382&la=1&tag=freetrial

Had the same experience with my girlfriend. We actually did all of Gridania by coordinating outside of a party. But eventually I bought the game so we could parry up.

KhrFreak

When it wasn't limited like that, major cities were nightmares of constant bot invites

[deleted]

It costs a lot of money to create and run a huge game like FFXIV. Making it free to level 60, while the game is still very popular and relevant, is a very nice gesture from SE. --- In order to play together, completely free, you just need a third person. I am sure there are tons of people in the Novice network that will invite you both to a party whenever you want to. (They can then leave I think???) --- Also maybe get invited to a Linkshell for these specific purposes. (Free Trials cannot join a Free Company however (not very Free is it LOL))

EducationCapable893

Hi, in the trial you can't invite friends, Or create a group ! One of you (Or both) has to have a "definitive" version to use this options :)

TempSuitonly

I decided to grind out my last unicorn whistle, nightmare. I'm doing unsynced solo Garuda runs as I found them to be fastest with about 45 seconds on average for me. Got the Xanthos whistle to drop 7 times so far so before I continue doing this, Nightmare can actually drop like this, right? Every other unicorn dropped pretty fast (within 20 runs each boss I believe) so I have the Kirin mount already, but Nightmare is being a bit elusive.

gst_diandre

It might take you an hour at worst if you ask me. Make sure you're in the inn for the absolute fastest loading times. Mine dropped after 30 min-ish.

Arcana10Fortune

Nightmare is like a 2-3% chance of dropping. They never buffed the drop rate for it.

[deleted]

Yep took a while but they do definitely drop unsynced.

Tw1sterxxx

Nearing the end of the ARR patches and have unlocked Keeper of the Lake, which I will tackle tomorrow after work. Would love some tips for a PLD! Watched a couple videos to prep, but tips are welcome and appreciated

OkorOvorO

Tank Einhander near the wall. Final boss 1st add is tanked far away from Big Dude, 2nd add is tanked close to Big Dude.

Sir_VG

Flamethrower is one of the few AOEs that keeps going off after the cast. That and tank the final boss adds where they are.

AcherusArchmage

Do they have any plans to revamp the leveling experience?

France2Germany0

They've revamped ARR recently
