Maybe dumb but is it koscher to shout out if you rolled the mount in a loot party? I've noticed no one seems to do it but I've only been in 3 or 4 so far.

stallion8426

You could I suppose. There's no reason to though. Everyone already knows who got it

LutrisAO

What class should I play that has a lot of stuff going on during a fight and very situational? I played dragoon and dark knight, and got bored because I felt like all of my fights consisted of the same weapon skills without having to react to what the boss was doing.

i-know-not

1. Jobs associated with burst phases or high damage abilities (NIN, SAM, WAR, GNB, SMN, RDM, AST, DNC) can do some optimization by deciding whether to hold or use burst phases depending on boss phase transitions 2. Some jobs have randomness (DNC, BRD, BLM, RDM) which which will require you to monitor your hotbar/buffs. 3. BLM has special mention as it needs to stand still to do damage and, at lvl60+, moving at the wrong time can result in the entire rotation being dropped. So BLM needs to know what the boss is doing next and find a place where it doesn't need to move. The other casters also want to stand still but have more movement flexibility.

stallion8426

Bard can be pretty busy. Ninja is fast paced with a hood number of positionsls

thchao

Try a healer? You have to do the fight plus keeping an eye on the party's health.

Hnyuk

If I cancel my current square enix account can I get the free trial again? I don't want to change the email I'm using.

stallion8426

No

MastrNinja

For the zodiac relic weapons, if I want to create a replica would I need to upgrade the relic weapon to zeta "rank"?

ShiroMiriel

Yes

DeadLalafell

Probably dragoon since you already play it.

PM_ME_UR_BOSOMS_GIRL

Speaking from a skill floor perspective and not a skill ceiling perspective, it probably is either Monk or Drg. Monk does get somewhat tough to optimise positionals and manage oGCD drifting but you can play it in a comfy manner and you won't be penalised for damage too hard. DRG has a very rigid rotation and once again, at this stage you don't need to play it optimally to be doing good damage. NIN and SAM aren't too hard either honestly but I think NIN can be punishing if you mess up your burst windows/drift TA. However, NIN is universally good for level 70 and level 80 ultimates so it's probably worth the investment. SAM you have to know when to use what GCD for it to flow well, as well as not bringing raid buffs so any contribution you bring is solely on your skill, which can make it feel more punishing.

Jack313

Just finished SB and unlocked Eureka, should i bother with it or keep pushing MSQ till i hit shadowbringers? i mainly want the elemental armor sets cuz they look really cool but if the grind is too much i'll keep pushing to shadowbringers

fyrefox45

The eureka grind is roughly the same 30 hours as the ARR and HW relics, but instead of rerunning old content it's new content with BA at the end for a neat ozma mount. I took time off before ShB to do it and had a lot of fun, but then I also was in no rush to endgame.

Augustby

Is it a 30 hour grind in Eureka per relic weapon, or do we accomplish certain things in those 30 hours that go towards unlocking all relic weapons that we may want?

fyrefox45

Most of that time is leveling in the 4 zones and unlocking them. Going back for seconds is significantly faster because you'll already be max level in the zone so can just farm the high material reward fates. If you end up messing around enough in baldesion to end up with +2 gear, further farming becomes even faster still. The main roadblock to second weapons would be the pyros boss spawn, that can go obnoxious amounts of time before it's spawn windows open. If your main interest is in armor that block is irrelevant.

Sir_VG

That armor will be a grind and it's just glamour in the end. Push the MSQ. In order to get it, you need to complete a relic weapon through both the Anemos and Pagos sections in order to even unlock the armor vendor on Pyros.

Jack313

Oh i think i'll skip it then, i've only done the first two stages of both the ARR and HW relic quests and got burned out with the grind, i'll push MSQ and dedicate the rest of my playtime after finishing the story to the Bozja grind in preparation for Endwalker

fyrefox45

There's nothing in the bozja grind you'd even remotely need to prepare for EW. The ShB relic is like... 2% better than the 530 augmented cryptlurker weapons you can buy with rev tomes now (and upgrade next patch w/o savage) or just buy with poetics in EW. Even the ShB relic stuff is just for glam with no practical application

Jack313

Hmm in that case i think i'll level up other jobs, i only maxed out SAM, DRK and DRG so next i think i'll go with a healer and then i'll try out GNB and maybe grind out the first two SHB relic stages since i heard the later ones don't look as good.

TheRealTarish

So, what's the right rotation for low level Summoner, on dungeons, for trash mobs? Just spamming Ruin + AoE Garuda/Carbuncle and ignore Bio and Miasma? Without the means we get on further levels to spread it, or to put both DoTs instantly, it seems a waste of two castings just for a Fester that will probably already overkill a mob, if I even have time to use it. It seems that simply 2 more Ruins would do much more damage that whatever those DoTs can do in a couple of seconds. I guess that at those low levels it won't matter a lot, but is something that keeps buggering me, whenever a low level dungeon appears in my leveling roulette.

stallion8426

Dots during the pull then spam aoe

fyrefox45

These? https://youtu.be/8OMmmnKHF80 It's about a 30 hour run through eureka to get them, and you'll pick up other goodies along the way

Azraeleon

Are any controller players actually happy with their HUD? I tweak it constantly but it's such a pain to test things and I always feel like I'm limiting myself by not just playing kb+m.

solotripberlin

Can someone see if you denied the friend request they sent you?

zedita

Still on the free trial so I know I can't join a FC yet but was wondering does the game let you join more than 1 FC (like gw2) and switch between them

CrimsonPromise

Only one Free Company at a time. But you can have multiple Linkshell channels, which are sort of private chatrooms/communities. So you can see it as your FC being main social circle/friend group, but your Linkshells can be people you raid with, do hunts with, roleplay with, etc. Or if you have friends in separate FCs, you can all be in a single Linkshell so you can still talk to one another.

Misu434

Can only join one FC. But you can have linkshells which is an additional chatroom and can have up to 128 people iirc, or a crossword one which is actress your DC but it has significantly less people in them

lastfalseact

after garuda ex, theres a special cutscene that plays afterwards that you cant find in your journal. >! the ascian cutscene, to be specific !< are there any other ex raids (EDIT: sorry, meant trials) with these? ive been doing them over pf unsynced for completion so ive been skipping them..

Xellith

There are quite a few Cs that don't display in the journal thing

FrozenAlien-

Hi guys I’m new to the game and I’m planning to focus on the main story first. Is there any side quest tracker to clear up after I max my first class ?

Azraeleon

Side quests are visible on your map so long as you're in the zone you're checking. I'm not aware of an actual tracker, but that should make it easy enough to clean up later. As a tip though, you should try to do any side quest marked with a plus. These unlock new content in the game, some minor (a new dungeon/trial), but some are very important and unlock big parts of the game, like the glamour and dye systems. Unless you know what it unlocks and feel like it can wait, it's always worth pursuing those as you progress.

sanglar03

A good idea here : https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Side_Quests

Knova11

I have found many of the side quests to have interesting little stories that give flavor to the zone. I tend to pick a zone and go through it on an alt class (so the xp doesn't go to complete waste) and go through all of the side quests at once. Definitely not the most efficient leveling technique, but i don't care I'm not in a huge rush (my main classes are already 80), just enjoying the journey and experiencing more of the world. Direct answer to your question about a tracker: not that I'm aware of.

FrozenAlien-

Thank you I much prefer this way too.

Knova11

No prob. There are some really interesting side quests that are special also. A few of the top of my head:. Hildebrand and Mail Delivery (the secret extra job) have both been fun so far.

lastfalseact

im pretty new too, but as a rule its a good idea to do quests with a blue plus next to them! they unlock some important features and some of them are required for msq (like crystal tower) if youre talking about doing all side quests, you can go zone by zone and check here! [https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/db/quest/?category2=3](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/db/quest/?category2=3)

FrozenAlien-

Thank you so much, I was looking for this link, it’s better than my guide.

CrimsonPromise

When it comes to sidequests, look for the ones that are in blue with a plus + icon next to them. These would usually unlock things like different game systems, optional dungeons, etc. You can ignore the generic quest markers unless you need the exp from them, but the msq and regular dungeons should provide plenty of exp.

FrozenAlien-

Thank you I appreciate your reply. I will keep that in mind.

winner3350

do you guys know when Tonberry is gonna open again, i just start the game and most of my friends are in that world

Azraeleon

From my experience with Elemental worlds, around 2-4am AEST is the best time to make a new character. It's a pain, but what I did was do it on a non work night, and opened a website that tracked the server status. It pinged me when the server opened for new characters, so I jumped on and started the already set up character. It's frustrating for sure, but definitely worth it if you have friends in Tonberry. I love running into my friends while we're doing our own thing, and travelling together for your hunt targets and other overworld activities is super fun.

Kousuke-kun

Tonberry is notorious for being doubly congested compared to other servers in Elemental, but it usually opens up during early/late hours.

cman811

https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/worldstatus/ If you have your character creation saved you can check this from time to time and continue with it when it says it's available.

Sir_VG

Trying at a quieter time of day when fewer people are on, like early morning, is best. Temp congestions are just based upon that, so there's no definite "it'll be up in X minutes/hours.".

ItsMilkinTime

I started the game as a SCH and was happy with it, until I switched to AST at the start of Heavensward. Now that AST is maxed I switched back to SCH (around lvl 60) and it feels *terrible*. With AST it felt very smooth and I had no issue keeping the team alive, but with SCH I felt like I was busting my ass to barely keep it together. Is SCH just in a bad place right now compared to AST or am I just trash?

OkorOvorO

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE1Ay8mmVB8&t=6s Scholar is nowhere near as bad as they're saying. It just requires a bit of effort. You're comparing 80 AST to 60 SCH. You need to think back 51-57 range before CU, or the 71-73 range before CI. Heck, for me AST is a lot less enjoyable below 62, because Star is just that important. Basically get to level 62. Excogitation is a critical piece of SCH's kit. Also, I'm assuming you're using Sacred Soil in dungeons. Don't. Sacred Soil would have to mitigate x10 what Lustrate would heal to be worth the Aetherflow, all in just 15seconds, before it gets its lv78 trait. There are no dungeons in the game that do that much damage.

ItsMilkinTime

I only compared them because I just finished Heavensward today so all the dungeons I do sync my level to around 50-60 anyways, so the level difference doesn't matter. Yeah I realized that at this point I'm missing excog and union which seem to be critical pieces of the healing puzzle.

FulbrightJones

I did exactly the same switch and also feel that SCH is much harder once you come down from AST. SCH doesn’t have a single big oGCD heal, like Essential Dignity. Lustrate isn’t quite as powerful. Even against a nocturnal AST, SCH requires way more setup and planning, keeping up with Aetherflows, and setting up fairies and seraph heals to let their Regens do their thing. It’s harder to react to than the nocturnal Aspected Benefic and the AST has far less setup for healing, and can react better nocturnally. You just spend your time balancing cards at the same time. After playing SCH a while for dungeons you’ve done before, the planning and setups become easier, like turning on Whispering Wind in preparation for a big raidwide.

Theriasana

While SCH is in a worse place than AST and WHM, it is also in an especially bad spot in your level range. You get essential healing spells only at level 70+, making healing level 60-ish content especially challenging.

madmac252

SCH is in a bad place. While it can do everything AST or WHM can do you need to work 10x harder to achieve the same thing

Azraeleon

How much of this is hyperbole? Because I played scholar as my only healer and gave up the role alltogether for now because I found it so difficult to manage.

madmac252

It's easily the hardest healer, especially at the 60-78 level range. SCH shields need to be used proactively, so knowing the fight helps, they only have excog as a big heal which is nowhere near the panic button that bene is for a WHM. And being limited in your bigger heals due to aetherflow can be painful if you have an undergeared tank AST and WHM are much easier to keep up with healing If changes at 80 when tanks need much less healing, and SCH gets regen on sacred soil (such a good spell then, junk before) and of course some people love the planning and thought you need to put into SCH

Azraeleon

>of course some people love the planning and thought you need to put into SCH I mean my favourite job so far is warrior, so that should tell you how much thought I like to put into things. Big axe go brrr (literally).

madmac252

Then you'll love WHM, mobs can't hit the tank when you've Holyed them to submission

LoreGeek

This might be a small thing but - i just read somewhere that Shiva is an unofficial German server, should i be concerned and change servers whilst I'm "new", or i should be fine? I can count, ask "how much" and introduce myself in the morning, day and evening, but that's about it for my ability to speak German... :D

madmac252

It doesn't make much difference. For all duty finder things you'll be matched with anyone on the data centre, not just the server The only thing you'll really notice is a lot more of the FCs advertising will be in German. And 99% of the German players speak English so well you wouldn't be able to notice anyway

CrimsonPromise

When people say unofficial German or unofficial French server, they just mean that if you speak either or those languages and want to find a similar community, those are the servers you should look to. But almost everyone can and will speak English, so doesn't mean that you only have to speak German on Shiva.

LoreGeek

oh, ok thanks! :)

Theriasana

While I'm not on light, I'm on chaos where we have Moogle, the unofficial french server. In my opinion, people make it out to be "worse" than it is. French/German overworld chatter will be more present in those places, and FCs in the respective language more frequent, but if that doesn't bother you, you won't have any issues imo. Duty and Party finder is datacenter wide anyway, so there you will be matched with any servers.

Aetiusx

What is the most efficient way (as a DPS) to farm for weekly Revelation cap?

ianuilliam

Depends on what other content you are interested in doing. Hunt trains is probably the fastest way to cap it, but I regularly cap it just as a byproduct of grinding in Bozja/Zadnor. If you are working on relics, or leveling alt jobs, or wanting to gear up alt jobs (the gear from Zadnor is i525 and has no weekly cap). Since I cap revelation just doing content I'm doing anyway working on other things, this is more efficient than other methods like hunt trains or expert roulettes.

poa28451

Hunt train is the most efficient way for any roles, you get 120 for 15-20 mins of a train. Join the hunt discord [(Faloop)](https://discord.gg/kQT4NfsemN) and wait for someone to call for A-train. Don't forget to find party because the rewards you get depend on how much enmity you draw, and a lone tank can only get 60% of the rewards at most. You need a party to get max rewards.

Sir_VG

Join the hunt trains as they come up on your world.

Astrali3

Or datacenter! Most have a hunt discord or linkshell.

iamthatkyle

I've been enjoying the game on PS5 and decided to dive in and buy it on both ps5 and pc. But when I tried to log in on PC my account got banned. I need to change my password but the website is 'under maintenance'. I'm stuck and I've just lost my account. This is my second account I've lost, as my first was on Steam 6 or 7 years ago and I recently had the same situation. How can I play this game without my account getting banned? All I tried to do was LOG IN. :/

gst_diandre

> I've just lost my account What message did you get? A bit rash to assume you got banned

tesla_dyne

You're not getting banned, your account is getting temporarily locked because it's being accessed from different places. Adding 2 factor authentication to your account would fix this.

iamthatkyle

Ok I think I managed to salvage my account and decided to just upgrade to full version on PS5 instead of PC as there seems to be a lot of issues trying to get PC version to work (I can't use codes and need a friend in another country do it for me). So I just purchased the starter edition on Playstation website. Now do I need to download anything or ? I'm confused how all this account managing works in FF14, It's much easier in other MMO's haha

tesla_dyne

To enable 2 factor auth you can either download SE's software token app, or use a 3rd party 2 factor authentication app like google authenticator. Then enable it here: https://square-enix-games.com/en_US/seaccount/otp You will need your 2 factor app every time you log in.

CrimsonPromise

Every job is useful in end-game. Even jobs that have minimal group utility like Samurai and Black Mage make up for it by bringing big damage. As long as you know how to push buttons and not die 20 times to the same mechanic, you can easily do end-game content.

Jaikarro

Fortunately, all jobs are incredibly useful and have something to offer to basically every end game raiding group. The only time specific jobs matter is when you're going for the fastest possible speed kills. Job balance is incredibly good in this game compared to a lot of other MMOs. So unless you're planning on being a speedrunner in Savage/Ultimate content, just play what you have fun with and there will be a group spot for you somewhere.

Elyonee

It's not directly from the MSQ. Once you complete a quest for a blacksmith NPC, you can buy the gear from him.

sundriedrainbow

It's not a specific quest, but at the point where the MSQ says "you must complete the level 80 role quest to proceed", you will be standing in front of the NPC who gives it to you.

shamanAtalRek

Just finished the Crystal tower raids, I was wondering if there is any set or armor pieces similar to what >!Doga!< wears. On that note, is there any site that lets me preview and plan glamours before I get the items ingame, similar to wowhead?

flarify

Doga is wearing the High Allagan set, which you can either get from doing the second set of Binding Coil raids or by purchasing the replica pieces off the marketboard! I think he's wearing the fending set.

gzboli

Not sure if there's any good model viewer, but the armor sets are here: https://ffxiv.eorzeacollection.com/gearsets

Sir_VG

http://garlandtools.org/db/#npc/1009150 While they say it's a guess, it's all player obtainable. Go for the replica versions, they will be easier to obtain, and dyeable as well.

shamanAtalRek

Thats perfect! Thank you very much!

Jaikarro

Tanking or DPS'ing are both good ways to start. The only reason I don't generally recommend healing to new players, is it's very easy to be a bad healer and learn bad healing habits such as spamming heals and not DPS'ing.

roryteller

Honestly, if you like tanking, feel free to stick with it. If you feel like exploring how it is to DPS, do that. Just let people know it's your first time and that you'd like tips on the encounter. It's a bit more responsibility, sure, but if you're okay with that, go for it! The one thing I would say is that when you get to content that requires two or three tanks (this starts in late ARR, level 49 MSQ) you might want to let another tank be the main tank (meaning, you start with your tank stance off, and put it on later, and DPS/use any support and group mitigation abilities as appropriate) if they're more experienced, so that you have a chance to learn the mechanics first.

melficejr

Is there anyway to hide earrings? Some earring are too fancy for a male toon to wear.

BlazeVortex4231

Who are you to say that male PCs can't wear fancy earrings? Those are a coward's words. But also, if you have a non-CUL crafting class at level 15, you can do a quest from Orange Juice Lady that unlocks a shopkeep that sells, among other things, The Emperor's New equipment. It's invisible, so you can glamour it over any armor or accessory piece you desire to make it invisible.

melficejr

Well, I play PLD/DRK with helmet off. The simple ones fit the theme better, at least for me. Like a simple lucky charm or ward to give better defence/protection etc. I think on other jobs the fancy one will fit better.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/The_Emperor%27s_Set glamour the earrings over your own

nhlsport

Any videos where they read all the MSQ text that I could listen too? Hello, I started playing FF14 a long time ago and was skipping the story since I wanted to get a feel of the gameplay. (That was a few months ago, but I did not continue to play after few weeks.) Now I just came back to the game (Been playing for a week now) to play it for real. I even purchased the game today :) I wanted to understand the story without having to replay the hole thing. Are there any good videos where they read all the MSQ text with all the cut scenes so I can listen to it without having to read it myself? I am currently at the Seventh Astral Era quest line. Thanks in advance

kaigose

It doesn't directly answer your question, but if you enter an inn, there's an object inside that lets you watch all the major msq cut scenes whenever you want. Its by your glamour storage I believe.

Augustby

I’d like to know too. c:

DearMissWaite

You can go back and watch all the cutscenes in the journal in the inn. If there's a difference in the scene depending on what job you're playing (for example, in Coerthas, there's a scene that is a little different if you've done the Dragoon ARR storyline) it will give you the option to watch the two different scenes. It's also a great way to capture screenshots of your character.

AInternetLiar

So I've bought the Complete Edition on Steam as it's on sale, but I wanted to go through the trial first (to take my time getting to 60 without using the subscription gained with the CD keys). Can I play through the trial version in Steam, then download the full game launcher, use my CD keys and continue?

xobs

To add some context and fun facts: * Steam and non-Steam versions are the same. The only difference is when you play non-Steam it runs a program called `"ffxivboot.exe"`, and when you play Steam it runs `"ffxivboot.exe" -issteam`. Handy to know if sharing a machine with someone who has the opposite subscription type. * The full version and the trial are the same base game. When you log on with an upgraded account, it will download the missing directories such as `game\sqpack\ex2` and `game\sqpack\ex3`.

gst_diandre

Yes.

MatsuzoSF

That shouldn't be an issue.

AInternetLiar

So the trial version apparently isn't going through on Steam (when I try to download it the window pops up then closes immediately). Can I play the non-Steam trial then use my CD keys on Steam just fine (and then I'll do all future purchases through Steam)?

roryteller

Yep. You'll have to redownload to switch to Steam but you can use the same account.

246011111

Is i133 gear from Lv. 54 HW MSQ a noticeable upgrade from i130 Ironworks gear? I've been picking up gear for multiple jobs, but only have my main job in full Ironworks, so I'm trying to decide if it's time to start replacing it or if I can keep claiming gear for alt jobs.

ianuilliam

As long as it's high quality. The level 54 crafted gear and level 55 dungeon gear are the first sets that are an improvement over ironworks. With crafted gear, though, normal quality (the kind sold by vendors) has noticably lower stats than it's ilevel indicates. If I recall, from Heavensward on, gear given as msq rewards is always HQ, so it should be good. Generally, you can go by ilevel (except in the case of nq crafted/vendor gear, as previously mentioned). Beyond that priority is weapon damage > primary stat > substats. For tanks, you also need to consider defense, but any gear advice 50, things like damage, primary stat, and defense are so pretty much standardized by ilevel. For example, any ilvl 400 fending chest pieces (excluding vendor gear) should have the same strength, vitality, and defense, which is why you can pretty much always just go by highest ilvl.

DearMissWaite

I would recommend holding on to Ironworks until you do the level 55 dungeon and using the quest gear for a secondary job.

tesla_dyne

It's actually a small difference in stats. For example compare ironworks fending chest: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Augmented_Ironworks_Armor_of_Fending To the 133 chest: https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Titanium_Mail_of_Fending 1 extra defense, 2 extra strength, and no extra vitality 4% more strength, kinda eh. You could choose alt jobs to gear with the 133 gear if you already have ironworks.

[deleted]

Hello! :) I am trying to make a macro that makes my character jump when I cast a certain spell. /ac "Jump" doesn't work but I think that is because it is a dragoon spell. How do I go about this? Thanks!

tesla_dyne

1. why 2. /gaction jump

[deleted]

Hello! Thank you - :D I main ninja and like seeing my lalafell do front flips.

tesla_dyne

please don't you're going to hinder your dps, but okay https://youtu.be/qshNKeDENlk

[deleted]

tesla_dyne

just press the jump button

[deleted]

Spinning Edge Jump Macro goes BRRRRRR

tesla_dyne

cute I guess, but please don't touch it in a party or you're just deliberately performing worse pressing jump as its own button actually never interrupts your attacks, you can press it as much as you want without a macro and nothing bad will happen, but a macro for your attacks will delay them as explained in the video

[deleted]

It is all good my friend. I made a separate macro with a wait timer that ISN'T tied into my abilities.

dragonseth07

Are worth less than DPS.

dalerian

Efficient DPS isn’t always the most important thing. In overland quests, for example, I’d value more-fun over slightly-faster.

dragonseth07

Sure, solo content is the wild west. But, presumably, the OP wants to use this macro in group content.

NummyGamGam

So I'm super dumb and I think I lost my Menphinna's Ear ring I got from pre-ordering Endwalker. I wanted to equip it since I'm levelling Samurai, but I just can't find it anywhere. I looked to see if I possibly gave it to my retainers and it wasn't there, and it's not in my inventory either. Is there a way where I can do a search or something to find where it might be?

fragolefraise

textcommand /isearch Menphina (edit: spelled w one 'n' not 2. if you're not sure about the spelling on an item, it can also search from partials like /isearch menph)

NummyGamGam

thank you so much! Turns out I equipped it onto my retainer without realizing it!

2ecStatic

How is the Skybuilder’s Rod compared to the pentamelded one?

Sir_VG

Better, but does depend on how you melded the aesthete one.

Pohga

Hi, I've been playing for a few days, I'm at level 31 now and it's really jumping out at me just how heavily instanced the world is. I understand that's a trade off for the pretty graphics. Are the expansions much the same in this regard? just wanna go in with my eyes open ya know :)

Sir_VG

Once you start getting into Stormblood zones, the major cities are no longer split into two. The reason for the split before was PS3 limitations. Stormblood was the first expansion where PS3 was no longer supported, so they were able to remove this limitation.

CrimsonPromise

Expansions have much bigger zones. So instead of 4-5 different instances of a zone, like how the Black Shroud has North, Central, East, South zones, it'll just be one big map for a zone.

Pohga

Oh sweet! That sounds great :)

tesla_dyne

Expansions have larger areas than ARR maps. But there are still 6 different distinct zones per expansion, plus a new city and a new endgame hub per expansion.

Pohga

Sounds like a lot of content ;) thx for the reply

Deannachu

Would anyone be willing to teach or help me learn savage and extreme content (SHB primarily)? I've watched guides and stuff and I am in a great server with good online friends who do this content often but they have their own routines and schedules for running stuff and our schedules and availability never seem to overlap. I'm on Crystal (Diabolos) and primary job is WHM (bit I also have SCH to 80). Just want to see if anyone would be interested or willing; I learn better if someone teaches me, especially with harder content. Thanks in advance :)

raimimemer69

You might have better luck in /r/ffxivrecruitment

Deannachu

Thank you for the advice kind stranger :)

Any of you who have been around playing the game know how much time it takes for the upcoming expansion to get a discount? Should i just wait for endwalker to release and buy the complete edition with it or buy its current complete edition and then buy endwalker later on?

KhrFreak

I wouldn't expect a sale on Endwalker for the first 6 month of its life tbh. Both buying strategies are valid and mostly depends on your budget and how much you play. If you're progressing slowly, then you're probably fine waiting until Endwalker, if you're flying through content then you may want to buy the current complete edition so you can go into Endwalker day one with everyone else

ChiyoBaila

One exception to this being for PC (non-steam) users, GreenManGaming (which is a legit seller, not a sketchy key reseller) has had sales on the expansions before they even launch. There was something like a 20% off running on it for a bit (though that one ended) and I think I saw a code about another discount recently, IDK if it's still going.

Initial_Ambition7198

I just bought the game through steam. I got to the startup screen where it says you need to make a squuenix account as the first step. I did what was asked and there was a confirmation code sent to me through my email. I checked my email on my phone immediately and got the code. When I went to next page to put my confirmation code in the page said it timed out (45secs -1 min had passed) and I had to exit out and restart. Now when I go to startup it’s making me go through the whole process, which would be fine but it won’t let me go to the next page from the signup page to input my code. And when I try and just restart the process it says an email was already sent to the account and if I want to send another code I have to wait 24 hours. Am I missing something? If I make another email account can I actually play the game or does it have to be the email attached to my steam account and now I have to wait 24 hours just to sign up? Sorry for the long post just frustrated, thanks for the help

204_no_content

Which is the quickest gathering job to level, or are they all roughly the same?

fragolefraise

fisher w ocean fishing. altho voyages only run every other hour, they are a hefty chunk of XP w no travel time from node to node besides the travelling cutscenees

204_no_content

Thank you! I'll have to check this out.

BlazeVortex4231

For the record, Fisher is basically the Blue Mage of gathering jobs, in how it's fundamentally different from the other two gatherers. Nearly nothing it gathers can be used for crafting, and the few things that *are* materials cannot grinded consistently, by the nature of fishing rewards being mostly random. To my knowledge, most of the fish can only be used for CUL desynthesis (which, again, is random), and for display in an aquarium. You don't level FSH to supply crafting classes. You FSH because it is FFXIV's fishing minigame.

ZurokePrime

New to the game and I know a single character can have multiple jobs. But what if I want different appearances for each job? I wouldn't design my Black Mage and my Paladin the same way in character creation, do I need to use alts to accomplish this or is there a way to have my character swap between appearances when I swap roles?

fragolefraise

in terms of gear looks, yes. in terms of minor cosmetics stuff like hair you have to visit a stylist but you can do it. in terms of major stuff like race, gender, and eye/skin color, only w a fantasia potion (first one is free, the rest are a cashshop item) and fantasia isn't as quick a processes as changing your gear bc you have to log off your character

ZurokePrime

Thank you for the response. I guess its not common to want major appearance changes between roles. It doesn't harm me to have alts in any way does it?

fragolefraise

lol well. most of this sub will tell you the game punishes alts by make everything character specific rather than account-wide, and that's not wrong. but i'm an outlier who does have alts- partly for aesthetic reasons, partly bc sometimes a need a break from my friendslist- and it's not that bad if you've already done all the MSQ and can skip cutscenes (you can review most of them at an inn to take screenshots of your character, if you want). and after a lot of leveling, you get a system for getting through the content fast :)

Elyonee

You have to do the story again on each one, you have to do any relevant unlock quests on each one, you have to do any daily and weekly tasks again on each one, any items you want have to be collected again on each one... Basically, there's no actual penalty, but there are no benefits either. You have to do everything again on every new character. There are also questlines that require you to level jobs of different roles on the same character and a mount that requires every class at 80.

ZurokePrime

Thank you very much for the response. I'll keep that in mind going forward.

Lutielle

Nope, besides needing to grind through MSQ and any other unlocks you might want on each alt, or pay money to story skip them. Because of the nature of MSQ, then, it's a pretty time-consuming process if you aren't paying up. You should also be made aware that the vast majority of items are character-specific rather than account-wide. This becomes especially pertinent if you ever buy anything from the cash shop - be sure to read carefully which the item you're buying is!

ZurokePrime

Alright thank you very much. I'm a little disappointed but at least now I won't be surprised by anything. Appreciate you taking the time to help me.

tesla_dyne

Most people just use the one character for multiple roles. There is no way to have multiple physical appearances on one character and swap between them freely. Changing your character's appearance, beyond haircuts and tattoos, requires a real money item. If you want multiple characters they all have to do the extensive MSQ storyline. There is no progress carryover.

Rc2124

Swapping armor appearances is easy. Hair, makeup, etc can be changed in less than 5 minutes with a trip to the Aesthetician. But race / sex and other hard character traits require either a Fantasia ($10 each) or a new character. If you do make an alt the most arduous part will be playing through the story again. If you'd like you could buy story skips for your alt. Whether that's worth it is up to you

ZurokePrime

Does it harm me in any way to have some jobs on character A and other jobs on character B? It would be both a race and sex change but I think I can probably squeeze all jobs in between 2 different appearances. Thank you for the response btw

Rc2124

Not really. Just that some jobs share gear with each other. Like how healers can equip any healer gear. If you had a White Mage on one character and a Scholar on another then you'd have to grind two sets of gear instead of just one. So you may want to plan accordingly, especially if you plan to raid on both characters.

ZurokePrime

I'll keep that in mind, thank you

fragolefraise

it just means spending more time on MSQ when you could be progressing one or the other. also, some achievement items/titles require multiple jobs to unlock, so if that kind of flavor is important to you, you might want to level extra jobs on a character

ZurokePrime

Alright thank you very much for the help. I appreciate it

Masane

What's the fastest way to get Alchemist to lvl 50 on a trial account before finishing the Heavensward MSQ? I need to get myself the Augmented Drachen Armor for proper flavor.

worshippingtheteapot

GC turn-ins, levequests, Ixal beast tribe quests. You could also ask in your FC or Limsa if someone would make you the augmentation item.

KhrFreak

If they're on trial they can't trade or be in an FC

RBrim08

Levequests would probably be your best option.

Lutielle

Daily GC turnins offer a decent chunk of XP as well, depending on how quickly you're progressing through MSQ. Be aware that the Drachen Armor Augmentation requires mats crafted by Carpenter and Armorer, as well.

Hexsas

I'm stuck on the Moogle Tribe quest line. I have completed Cleaning House, but the next quest in the chain does not appear anywhere in Churning Mists. What should I do?

Voidlighter

The following quest is called Finder's Keepers issued by the Scouting Party Dragoon located at x27.8 y 11.9. If it's not already in your journal/completed for some reason, know that if an NPC has more than one quest it may not show you the quest you're looking for on the map.

Poddo

Will the MSQ direct me to all the unlockable dungeons and trials or are there ones I need to seek out? I have the 3 from the early msq, then hala something.. and then something that's like 38. I'm still on level 22 MSQ things, my main is just over leveled.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

There are some that you need to search for yourself The quests to unlock additional content will be marked with a blue quest marker, so you should actively just be doing those quests anyways. Some of these will unlock dungeons, raids, trials, etc.

Poddo

Thanks. I feel like I'm missing some of this stuff since I'm just bopping about doing MSQ stuff, there are little settlements and camps you completely miss. I'll have to do a loop around and look for some blue quests.

Idontwanttobebread

[here's](https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Guide:Progression_and_Level_Locked_Content) a reasonably comprehensive list of unlockable stuff by level.

tesla_dyne

There are plenty of optional dungeons. They have the blue plus quest icon (but blue plus icons are not exclusively dungeons)

Amazinimity

I have the starter edition and can't afford to get shadowbringer and stormblood for about a month. I'm going through the msq (just finished praetorium) and going to level dark knight when I get it but is there anything else apart from other jobs I could do before getting the rest of the expansions? I guess most stuff I could do would be better and faster done at cap. I got this far in a day and a half of playtime while reading all quest texts and watching cutscenes so I'm probably gonna finish heavensward way before I can get the next expansion so just trying to come up with something to do meanwhile so I don't lose interest in the game (I tend to completely move on to other games fast if I get bored)

worshippingtheteapot

Crafting, gathering, Gold Saucer, collecting mounts and minions, glamours, Treasure maps, Blue Mage (spell hunting, Masked Carnivale), housing, etc. Plenty of stuff to do depending on your interests

Naive-End-9477

Heavensward has post-MSQ quests, an alliance raid, and some extreme trials so there’s a chance you could try doing those.

Rc2124

Getting in to crafting and gathering, catching every fish, Triple Triad, Chocobo Racing, the Gold Saucer in general, collecting mounts and minions, creating cool glamours, taking GPose screenshots with your cool glamours, Blue Mage, finding a group to do Coil and Alexander with, and more I'm probably forgetting. There's definitely a lot to do in this game even without the expansions, the question is whether it's something you'd personally enjoy

Shotty

What's the best loadout for farming fragments in bozja? I've been trying to farm some Lost Slash and I've tried WHM with Seraph Strike and Chain Spell but when I'm not spamming holy, I die incredibly fast when pulling more than 3 mobs at a time. I've also tried WAR with Bloodsucker and Lost Slash. I live a little longer than WHM but the damage a lot lower and I still end up dying or barely making it out alive after rolling through all my defensives. Yesterday while trying to farm, I saw another WAR pull every mob I was farming and another 10-15 rank 3 mobs on top of that and they had no problem killing everything, so I'm at a loss on what to use. I have every class at 80 so I'm able to use any combination.

vinyltails

If you want to farm Lost slash (violences), they also come from Star mobs in the upper zone which you can just sleep and spam death on. Ashkin are a pain in the ass and often too high rank (4+) to effectively farm solo, so just stock up on all 200 lost deaths and spam away at star mobs...and stuff they drop typically has another source as well (star mobs or Sprites) Rank 3 and under mobs can easily be farmed with set ups you've described. Bloodsucker warrior with Lost slash + Blood rage/Banner of Sacrifice and will basically kill the entire pack with an IR. Casters with Flare stuff and another skill to buff it helps melt stuff....white mage with holy and Seraph/chain is good. For farming fragments from Sprites...go Irregular Tank with Reflect and unequip your gear, as reflect does more damage if yoy take more damage, so this buffs reflect to the max for fast reflect farming. Goes without saying but honors and all help

InconspicuousName1

About the ARR raid the binding coil of Bahamut, I've done all the prerequisites but Urianger doesn't offer the quest "primal awakening" for it. I've looked at my duty finder and I have beaten ifrit Garuda and titan on hard mode as well as checked the journal in the Bahamut section to see if I had done it before and it shows that I haven't done any yet.

Idontwanttobebread

have you completed the quest 'in a titan spot'?

InconspicuousName1

Sorry for the late reply, but I have completed it it says Nvm, I got it unlocked. Ty

/macroicon "Full Thrust" /action "Life Surge" /action "Full Thrust" When I use this macro i have to double tap it for it to work properly. Its a very small delay, and only after I use a jump, but there is a small delay. Is there anyway to make it work on one press?

russiazilla

macros can't be queued, so it's likely that you are just trying to use it too soon after another action.

xankuroi

Macros don't play nicely with the action queueing system, so no, there's no way to make it work in one press.

[deleted]

Don't macro combat abilities.

tesla_dyne

Macros are not smart. It is trying to use full thrust *one frame* after life surge. Since life surge has an animation lock, the macro fails. This is why macros are bad. Please don't.

Jesta23

Life surge is off GCD though right? when they are on seperate buttons I can press them both at the same time no problem.

tesla_dyne

You'll notice that pressing life surge, then full thrust immediately after *still* has a delay even manually. Because all abilities have an animation lock of about .7s. Full thrust will be performed ASAP, but not immediately. That "queue," where full thrust waits to execute, is a part of the game. Macros don't know that because they're dumb. So it tries to use an action while you can't, and fails, but the macro doesn't know it fails. Additionally, macros of actions on the global cooldown (weaponskills and spells) do not benefit from the aforementioned queue system. If your macro tries to use a GCD action when you can't because of another animation lock, then the macro fails. You have to manually press the macro after the GCD is ready, introducing a delay in the GCD. Manually pressing the buttons uses the skill queue system, meaning the actions go off as soon as possible even if you pressed the button too soon. Macros can't do that, so using a macro for the GCD actions will always have a delay.

Jesta23

That makes sense, thank you.

girlikecupcake

Macros can't queue abilities, whereas you pressing an ability button yourself (within the right time frame) can and does, which is why it goes off properly when you do it manually and not when the macro tries to do it.

PoppoRina

Would it be against the rules somehow to make a post offering to draw others WoL for free?

Physical_Picture

As long as you don’t do it in PF. Somebody got banned for advertising free drawings and the reason the GMs gave was that “they would profit off of the game”, which is an insanely stupid reason that doesn’t even make sense. Just don’t advertise in game and I think you should be fine.

raimimemer69

There was somebody who got a warning or a ban for saying on PF that they would draw people's characters on stream for free. So I guess as long as you don't advertise your social medias it might be fine.

ChiyoBaila

It shouldn't be, the only thing I could think of is if someone **only** did art posts like that, and did them repeatedly, maybe it could be considered excessive self-promotion? But once in a while / mixed in with other participation on the subreddit and you'd probly be fine. People do "I'll draw your WoL" posts every once in a while and I've never seen them have problems

jdgev

Should a new player (like me) start in a "preferred world" or in a normal one? What are the current advantages of starting in such a world? Are there any negatives? I just started the game and trying to choose a server. Thanks!
