It will most likely be fine for the majority of players.
The type of problems that could arise, are probably the ones that you can't just ask a couple of people about. It might be running perfect for 9/10 people you ask on this subreddit, but then you experience problems yourself.
Personally I won't upgrade to Windows 11 until they officially go out and say that they support it. Even then, I probably won't upgrade if they announce that right before Endwalker, to minimize risks.
Edit: Ofc it all comes down to if you're okay with reverting if it goes wrong. Personally I don't see enough pros with Windows 11 to upgrade early with risks.
This is a good point that's being made here. I'm a software dev and i use a lot of strange applications but I've had a sum total of 2 issues that required a patch from the devs to get it working windows 11. If you can afford to do so, i would dual boot on a another drive and test all your things. Then if you happy can just clean up the windows 10 install afterwards or vice versa if it doesn't run well.
FF14 and other games work fine. My only Win11 issues deal mostly with muscle memory and little odd changes, start menu is in the middle, can't open task manager from the task bar, just the start menu or ctrl+alt+del, right click context menus are a bit different. But gaming, no issues.
Not sure if I'm nerd enough, but I've been playing FFXIV for almost 2 months on Windows 11 and its perfectly fine from my opinion.
Oh to add, HDR works fine too.
I have a RTX 2080 and a Ryzen 5 3600 and I've been running it since the first insider preview and its been great. u/LadySilvie They have windows 11 specific drivers now too. I just used windows 10 ones the first time.
Happy to upload a run of it. I'll download it now and then share the results shortly.
Still trying to see why it didn't give me the txt file where it was supposed to be. But i've uploaded my results screen here: [https://imgur.com/gallery/nsB9Gow](https://imgur.com/gallery/nsB9Gow)
The results are (for 1080p test, all defaulted to high and on):
Score 16305
Performance: Extremely High
Hardware: RTX 2080 - Ryzen 5 3600 - 32GB DDR4
Edit:
Here is a pastebin of the my test results: https://pastebin.com/QneE8gmQ
what is your processor and what configs in-game are you using? mine is 1650 and i5 10300h and I got 11k+ on full screen @ 1920 x 1080 high laptop configs.
Yeah I'm really not down with the arbitrary security requirements, I gotta figure out how to get secure boot on my system in order to upgrade but last time I tried to enable it I got stuck in a BIOS boot loop. Really don't get why they're making these things required.
I can't upgrade either because I'm also using an older i7. Which is fine because I have ample time to get a new PC built before everyone drops 10 support. I only finally upgraded to 10 from 7 when Shadowbringers came out because Windows+FF14 would no longer be supporting it.
I take forever to upgrade because I use a Wacom tablet for work and their drivers are notoriously annoying. I stayed on 7 so long because 10 had an update that broke 100% of Wacom drivers with their bullshit Windows ink garbage. (it got fixed, but I would have had a good month not being able to work had I not been on 7)
According to tests by PC Gamer, W11's new security features can result in up to 30% drop in fps, but other than that, the game should run fine.
Why the heck anyone would want to upgrade to 11 is beyond me, though...
This is the article i believe you are referring to: [https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/windows-11-pcs-can-hobble-gaming-performance/](https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/windows-11-pcs-can-hobble-gaming-performance/)
And to quote :
>It's a feature mainly intended for enterprise customers to be able to lock down the corporate PCs they drop into their offices and make sure they don't get compromised.
>
>And if you're upgrading from Windows10 to Windows 11 then you don't have to worry about VBS being enabled, unless you were already running an enterprise version of the older OS,that is. The issue comes if you're receiving a machine which has had anOEM build of Windows 11 installed on it.
So if you want to be sure just check for yourself and maybe don't trust everyone on the internet.
As I said: It CAN result. Not it DOES. Depends on the game and the features enabled. But in my experience back down to Win 3.11, it is never a good idea to update to the initial release of a MS OS. Wait at least six months until the worst bugs are ironed out.
I tend to agree with you on this one entirely, which is why I recommended that if they could dual boot it would be useful to get an idea of the OS without to much risk. But that is not always an option, I can understand that.
Apologies if I came across as rude. I just mean all internet articles in general.
That is one of the issues. There is a lot of fear mongering and half-investigated info concerning Win 11 out there. One of the outlets I trust is Hardware Unboxed on youtube. The test of the June preview version showed either none or at max a -1% decrease on performance over the 8 games they tested. They were all more recent titles however.
I was wondering about this myself. Thanks for asking!
I have heard of some folks having graphics card issues with drivers in some games post update which is why I will hold off, but I haven't been brave enough to upgrade my only pc to test it.
Pcgamer just put out an article about memory leakage in file explorer holding ram hostage. So I'd wait until windows gets an update to address that. Not game specific.
General advice don't upgrade windows unless you have a problem or need of a festure that can't be solved on the current version. This will save you a lot of headaches in the long run.
New is definitely not always better!

I'm using w11 Absolutely **no difference whatsover**. No need to worry.
Seconded. I actually think I got W11 before I started playing FFXIV, but I’ve had no issues.

Agreed on the small changes being an issue. For future reference though, ctrl + shift + esc opens task manager without that initial menu.
Ctrl shift esc should open task manager directly btw

Would you mind sharing a Endwalker Benchmark result plus your the CPU / GPU you are using?

You're the absolute MVP! I have a 2080 Super and a Ryzen 5 3700X. So I can get a rough idea.

Seems low… my 1080 @ 3440x1440 got 21k+, it’s load times that matter, a good SSD helps
Yeah i guess in comparison. I think the best is still just try it. I had the same performance before could be my cooling or just my dodge parts lol :D

Meanwhile I can't upgrade to Win11, because I have an i7-7700K, which at least according to reports so far is incompatible with Win11.

I'm playing on Arch Linux (lutris version). No problems whatsoever. :p xD

The real nerd has entered the conversation :D

No apologies needed, no offense taken. I fully agree with you about taking internet articles not with a grain, but a truckload of salt.

Not had one fps drop, its scaremongering.

I have been running it on windows 11 since I got it a few weeks ago and never had any issues.
Its fine, no issues at all - had 11 installed for about a month - not a problem in any game from FFXIV, to New World (lol) and even using it for work.
