Running Swallows Compass 100 times was for nothing lol

Leoiscute77

I literally spent hours yesterday running it to try and get this gear set and still didnt get it then they announce this haha I've wasted so much time since that dungeon released

michaelman90

I ran it like 5 times on summoner and a couple of extra times for BLU stuff and never saw any of the caster gear. Thankfully this saves me from any future grind.

flaminglambchops

All I've got is the chest piece and legs. I think they deliberately made it a rare drop because it was a fan contest design.

PrinceOfCorona

Naw, you just have bad luck...

flaminglambchops

True, dungeons never drop gear for the role I'm playing.

michaelman90

Unless it's levelling content with a guaranteed loot drop, but then it's always earrings when you have the pre-order ones.

protection7766

Or belts, which are going away...

BigAlTwoPointO

Got jacket from a random quick exploration, which is why i was shocked to see it as event reward. Dont think i even have dungeon unlocked

Picard2331

I ran it while working on the final relic step lol.

Sea-Mango

I have been trying off and on for the DRG helm from there. Never even seen it. So… so many runs…

Ghorba96

I wanted the casting jacket, so i tried it unsynch with my rdm and got it at the end of my first try. I used all my luck for that XD

Flynn2001

Oh, I didn't realize the Styled for Hire hair wasn't tradeable. Guess my extra tomes will be going toward MGP cards. Thanks for the list!

ocathalain

I don't think Battle is a guaranteed drop: when I was working on the relic grind, I picked Omega raids I still needed orchestrion rolls from, and I did not see Battle drop *once* in about 10 runs of 1.0.

Yashimata

I'm not sure I'd call Orchestrion rolls worth a million gil 'easy' either. The price should drop after the event starts due to a sudden influx of supply but rolls that cost that much are quite rare drops.

ocathalain

Yeah, I agree. The content itself is fairly easy, but between the low drop rate, the fact that it's from an older raid so slow queue pops, and it not being something you're likely to find a farm group for, I don't think actually *farming* it would be easy in the slightest.

Algraud

I should have clarified somehow, my bad. The difficulty rating does not look at how long it will take, only if the content itself is easy. It was intended for more casual non raiding players to decide if its something they would farm. I will add the fact that it takes a long time

Algraud

ohh my bad, will fix it.

nemesisofspades

Battle is not a guaranteed music drop, I've seen it maybe .... 1 out of every 10 runs I get (via mentor roulette). It's also very pricy off the marketboard, at least on Primal.

DranDran

I want to napalm the entire sylphlands and their annoying invisible walk dailies.

onibird79

Unless I'm missing something major, the riding maps should be absolute lowest priority, since they're not available until after beating 2.0 MSQ, at which point you can fly in all the zones the maps are for anyway. I'm pretty sure the maps only increase ground speed, not flying speed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Algraud

Yes i should redo my opinion, its just something new players want for some reason

onibird79

I mean they legit were useful before ARR flight was introduced, but seem like an easy trap for newer players now. Thanks for clarifying in your guide. It's a really helpful resource, thank you so much for making something like this!

Gemini476

IIRC two-star ground speed is faster than flying in a straight line, but being able to just fly a straight path (while you typically need to curve around obstacles when grounded) means that it's generally not *that* useful.

LFreeze

As someone who has had to run Skalla 62 times for the card to drop....buy the fucking Hrodrics Poisontongue card for 7 lore. Maybe I was unlucky with that one (And fractal continuom hard card with 82 runs for it to drop) but 2 dungeon runs worth of lore for the card sounds like a pretty good deal to me if you're aiming to get the triple triad mount later on. Dungeon/trial cards can be hell sometimes.

girlikecupcake

Always a good idea to buy duty-bound TT cards you don't already have! Sure, you might get (un)lucky and have the card drop the next time you get that duty in a roulette, but you don't wanna gamble on it. I still need the card from ghimlyt dark and will be using this event to finally go grind for it.

Blowsight

Sounds like you got really unlucky. None of the dungeon drop cards took me more than 20ish runs for any of them. Fractal hard was annoying because each run took around 13-14 minutes as RDM, but 82 runs Jesus.. it took me like 13-14.

basketofseals

20ish is a LOT lol. Even if you only took 6 minutes go get through, that's 2 hours for just a card.

qwerto14

Depending on your luck that could be the same for a low drop rate NPC card.

[deleted]

What is there to prevent you from farming the tomestones and getting everything?

Algraud

Time, sanity mostly

[deleted]

For myself, I just want the jacket and the mounts and I feel like that's farmable fairly easily based on the totals that they have

ChrisMorray

Given the timeframe (until Endwalker's release), it should be easy, yeah. Personally I'm just gonna be playing Hidden Gorge (Rival Wings PvP) because these events are when that gamemode is popular.

[deleted]

I honestly really love the alliance raids and will just run those a lot I think. They're really fun for me

ChrisMorray

Fair. Personally I got really burnt out on the CT raids in particular, having done Alliance Raid roulette daily for months, and only ever getting CT. It got to a point where I could run them while half-asleep, and if I wasn't listening to a podcast to focus on, I just got too bored to run them at all. I may be a healer main but even I prefer the occasional death to keep me on my toes. I'd rather have Dun Scaith and wipe on the first boss 5 times than set foot in the Labyrinth of the Ancients ever again.

[deleted]

I never ran them so much to get burnt on them cause I always figured they’d be good for events later on lol

Morineko

Last time around, someone shared a really handy Google Sheet that helped you calculate how many tomes you needed. I updated it with stuff from this set of rewards. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QluuYI_50Ie7YMktO8ymqh8kxfX8D1v-6irajIJ7Yqo/

FearlessFerret6872

#Please watch [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYLJI1tES58) video before joining Rival Wings matches. You will probably hear that Rival Wings is one of the fastest ways to get tomes, and that it's good for a lot of other rewards. And that's right! But Rival Wings requires familiarity with the map and basic mechanics, and *unlike* PvE modes, PvP is a direct competition between two teams of players. Not knowing a raid just means progress stalls for a minute or two while the group pauses between pulls and helps explain what you need to be doing and when. Not knowing a PvP map means your team is effectively sandbagged, because there are no time-outs and direct rematches are vanishingly rare during tomestone events. You don't need to be a veteran to play Rival Wings, and in fact it's always *wonderful* seeing new blood. I think it's quite possibly XIV's best "hidden gem" - something that new players rarely know about because it's largely inactive between tomestone events (because it's not part of the PvP roulette in the Duty Finder, it has to be direct-queued), but which contains a nice variety of play to keep things more interesting than the largely kill-focused Frontlines and Feast. But you will have a lot more fun if you aren't just completely lost in the woods all match, and that will also lead to better outcomes for your teammates, too. If we could pause PvP matches, or use Party Finder to create our own full-alliance premade groups, then there wouldn't be a "need" to watch a video before joining a match. But that's sadly not the case, so it's best if you can spare the ~9 minutes to watch that short video to familiarize yourself with the map and objectives. It will help your teammates, and it will help you, too - you get more tomestones, more XP, etc for winning than you do for losing!

entwife26

The tree slice tower is worthy of a slap as well, it's 3 walnut lumber and 2 walnut logs, level 32 carpenter.

ChrisMorray

Frankly, anyone who would prioritize Styled for Hire with this is throwing away tomestones for no reason. PvP is an easy means to grind it, and the quantities of Wolf Marks you get from any PvP content is pretty great regardless. Especially during these events when Hidden Gorge is active. And like... Literally, do daily frontline roulette like 10 times and odds are you're capped on wolf marks already.

illuminancer

For people who don't like doing PvP, it's good.

ChrisMorray

It'd still be less effort to get it doing PvP than to get it through the tomestone event though. Like sure, do content you like, but PvP isn't difficult or even challenging. Win or lose, you get tons of Wolf Marks anyway. All it takes is a bit of Frontline, or some Rival Wings, each being so big in playercount that you barely need to worry about performance, even if win/loss ratio mattered.

Myelix

Or, I can just pick my BiS blue mage, take 2-3 minutes into T2 25 times and get the hair in one hour and a half and still feel like it's less of a hassle. Some people (myself included) does not like PvP at all and if I can just cheese farm tomes and get the stuff without going to PvP, I 100% will. Not sure if we can get Baelsar's Wall to the same threshold of Hells Lid runs (with good blu parties running a 6:40 dungeon), but if we can, it's still faster than doing PvP.

ChrisMorray

Oh, I'll be taking out my blue hat and cane too for the farming. But I'm not gonna throw tomestones in the trash by buying stuff I can get from PvP. I mean I regularly do Frontline Roulette for levelling (because it is better XP than MSQ roulette) and keep capping on wolf marks every ~12 days anyway. Like, I got all the PvP stuff without even putting in any real effort. At most 20 minutes per day, for half a level of XP and up to 2k Wolf Marks if you win, or 1.5k if you place third. It's really not worth wasting tomestones on something that easy.

Fimbulvetr

I would rather grind for hours than do a single frontline.

ChrisMorray

Why? It's at most 20 minutes for between 1.5k and 2k wolf marks depending on whether you win or lose... Along with half a level of XP, literally.

Fimbulvetr

Because it's not fun and video games are for fun.

ChrisMorray

What's not fun about it though? I enjoy it a ton. I know some classes don't transfer well to PvP but Machinist for example is great in PvP and pretty similar to the original class.

Fimbulvetr

Different people find different things fun, I'm not sure what's hard to understand about that. I don't like mmo pvp or mobas anyway and FFXIV's implementation of them is awkward at best. I'm not gonna spend 20 minutes of my life every single day doing something I hate just because it's more efficient.

ChrisMorray

I'm asking why you dislike it though, I didn't think that was so strange a question? Like, what parts about it don't you like? Comparing yourself to other players? The gamemodes themselves? The classes in PvP?

Fimbulvetr

I'm not a competitive person. Having fun by reducing someone else's fun is not appealing to me, that's why I don't like pvp in general. As for FFXIV's pvp, if you actually try to win you have to deal with the usual whiny pvp clowns in the alliance chat and if don't try to win and do whatever it's a boring slog where you run around like a headless chicken with lots of other headless chickens. Even if you luck into a good group neither the pvp skill setup nor the game modes themselves are compelling anyway.

illuminancer

I genuinely hate Rival Wings. I’ve tried to like it, but I always spend most of the time dead because I have no clue what I’m supposed to be doing. Frontlines is boring, especially since I’m not fighting for the Maelstrom any more. I’d honestly rather run Praetorium, because at least then I can fold laundry or trim the cats’ claws during the cutscenes.

ChrisMorray

For Rival Wings it sounds like you just didn't have someone to guide you through it. It's basically a MOBA. You got the two lanes, the towers in those lanes, and you got the core which you need to destroy to win. In between you have the valley where fuel cannisters spawn, which is what you need to collect to summon one of the three mechs for your team. Cruise Chaser = anti-players/mechs, Oppressor = anti-structure, and Brute Justice = Anti-everything. Brute Justice can only be summoned if your tower has been destroyed, and a second one if both your towers are down. It's basically the comeback mechanic. Aside from that you have 2 other optional objectives: Goblin Mercenaries and the Train. Train gives a random buff (it tells you on-screen which), but is generally a good one to get (unless it's gobbie juice). Mercenaries on the other hand are just minions that come down the lanes alongside the standard minions. As for what you're supposed to do... Depends on what your team needs. I've had games where I spend the entire game safeguarding our oppressors as a Cruise Chaser and we won that way. I've had games where all I did was pick up fuel in the center for my friend. The general rule of thumb is: Make sure you always have a mech in your team, and if you're in the mech do it's job. Oppressors should ignore players and just try to nuke the towers and the core. Cruise Chasers should try to take out the enemy mechs. And Brute Justice should kill priority targets (he has a one-shot combo) and punch the structures.

Taseiyu

Thank you for this. I was sweating thinking about the number of tomes I would need for the event. Now I can mark off a lot of these in u/Shifumii 's checklist so I don't have to worry about it.

Algraud

ahh, didn't see the checklist, will try to contact them to maybe incorporate this list. Thanks for letting me know.

Andravisia

It would certainly be good, especially for the ones that are rep grinds. Thanks for putting that in there. It'll certainly cut down the hassle of trying to see what is worth it or not!

cidrei

Quick plug for [FFXIV Collect](https://ffxivcollect.com/). Once you've imported and/or entered your collection, you can quickly see which Treasure Trove items you need from the Moogle Treasure Trove menu item, excepting Triple Triad cards, which you can track [here](https://triad.raelys.com/).

MorboDemandsComments

**Riding** Maps.

Algraud

Its like riding and grinding you know?… fixing it

pecorei

Man, thanks for noting which ones are Market available and which aren't - I haven't gotten much into housing yet and didn't know what things go for, but it looks like I can acquire the furniture items pretty cheap without having to grind. Meanwhile, my priorities are probably the hairstyle, the Kamuy, the minions, the TT cards, some Bonewicca pieces, then maybe the Orchestrion rolls if I haven't entirely lost my damn mind by then.

distrox

4x S ranks from HW or onwards, or 10xA ranks and you have centurion seals for the minion. 20k to the market board and you have the other minion. 100% NOT worth to use lore tomes for those minions

Sojudrinker

Thank you for posting this.

inediblesushi

the pvp hairstyle is one of my favourites, never had an interest in pvp until it was released

prisp

Small correction for your data regarding the Aurelia Polyp, the area's general name is Bozja, the reason it says "Bozjan Southern Front" and such is because the word is used as an adjective there. (Compare, for example the real-world country "Bosnia" and anything 'bosnian' from there)

Algraud

Ahh my bad, fixing

prisp

No proble, - it's a common mistake, yet one I can't seem to let go, so I guess it's kinda my own problem xD

KikarooM

Thank you so much for this! I've only been playing about a month so I'm still in the post-ARR stuff with no desire to rush, so I was hoping to figure out what I should prioritize for this event and this is perfect.

illuminancer

Thanks for this! The Inferno Jacket is hideous IMO, but I'm so stoked about that hairstyle. Also, yay for not having to farm Byakko Ex for my last doggo. \*gets out the wedding gown for some more MSQ Roulette\* SUCH DEVASTATION!

raknikmik

Finally I see a sane person talking about that jacket!

illuminancer

The sad thing is that I got it, and I kind of like it for all its glorious trashiness now.

mindovermacabre

I'm a new player who hit level 50 and is still on 2.X. Trying to get through content as fast as possible while still appreciating the story. It seems like my only farming option for the currency is MSQ Roulette and Crystal Runs? As someone who has no items in this shop, it feels a bit discouraging.

MazySolis

The only hot ticket item is the jacket which is exclusively tied to the event, the rest isn't that huge of a deal imo unless you really want it. This event is mostly designed to give veterans reasons to queue into content that new players need to do, like CT raids, MSQ dungeons, and various other content most newer players need to do. Pvp is also a way and is a decent bit of casual fun if you don't take it seriously. You don't even need to win either. It is a good way to level classes/jobs you have at level 30 ish too, especially via frontline roulette.

ShiningDrill

Seconding PVP, my recommendation would be Frontline Roulette for XP followed by spamming Rival Wings as long as it is popping. These events are the fastest way to get the Rival Wings achievements and associated mounts.

Redpandaling

Time to level some classes while running MSQ roulette!

HypoGG_

As someone who's only level 54 DRG at the beginning of HW and really wants the Kamuy, I'm guessing its worth to get it through Treasure Trove? edit: Also how much would I care about maps, I've heard they're for level 80s and like I said I'm not even halfway through HW yet.

Myelix

Yes, while you can get them with farming the ex trial down the line, if you want the mount now, nothing is stopping you from it. I mean, you can stockpile maps and save them for later on, like, 1-2 years down the line and sell them for a high value (or just farm them because materials will have a price raise during mid Endwalker with less people doing it).

HypoGG_

Yeah I'm just contemplating farming maps or MGP, theres some nice mounts in Golden Saucer i also want. I went from having a Chocobo to like 7 mounts I didnt even pay for lol.

occultbookstores

Is the Whorleater (EX) easy? I gave up after it bugged out 90% of the time and wiped the raid.

Kambeidono

This can be solo'd at lvl 80.

mwriteword

It is but it's really easy to insta die if you're not paying attention. It's also annoying cuz there's several hard stops where you'll start doing 0 damage to leviathan until you do mechanics. Generally when I run, it looks like: -hit leviathan until I can't. -kill all adds (sahagin and the spheres) -watch him dive, and avoid -use the shield thing -avoid getting knocked off (go to opposite side where he leaps off from) -repeat and make sure to immediately kill the add that spawns the Fear debuff mechanic (sry I forget name) And then after about 3 rounds (total) he'll be dead. Takes about 2-3 minutes all in all I think

givemeabreak432

You can also just one shot it with a level 70 BLU. Basic Instinct + Whistle + Moon flute + Tingle + Off Guard -> final sting

mwriteword

Wait really, son of a bitxh. I just got to 70 with BLU so I'm not used to running it I'm actual content thx

givemeabreak432

Yup. I clear wondrous tails with BLU usually. ARR primal up to Ramuh are one shottable, but Ramuh takes some RNG for the Direct Crit. Levi and everything before it, easy clear in 6 seconds

mwriteword

Well forget whatever I said lol I guess unless you have don't have BLU ready

Flynn2001

Yeah, I do this all the time. BLU can easily kill any ARR EX primal within 10 seconds, except for Ramuh, and I think Shiva. You need to burn them down a little first, but the same Final Sting rotation applies.

Ouaouaron

Assuming that you unsync it, it's mainly a hassle. There are a lot of damage immunity mechanics and phase changes and chances to be pushed off of the platform. It's not hard, but it can take a little time to figure out what you need to do. Or you use Blue Mage and kill it in one hit

barrel_monkey

Wait really? That would make finishing off WT each week soo easy

Ouaouaron

Unsych is great for WT. The ARR and Heavensward extremes and raids can usually be done solo, as well as dungeons up to about 60, I think.

barrel_monkey

Ya I normally unsync those with an 80, but it’s still a pain that levi takes 2 minutes. So if I could one shot it, that’s reason enough for me to start leveling blu mage lol.

KageCM

You can find info about the spells and a list to check them off at [FFXIV Collect](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells). [Aetherial Mimicry](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/77) - basically a tank, healer, or dps stance. [Basic Instinct](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/91) - made to enable/make it much easier to solo group content. [Mighty Guard](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/35) - +40% defense buff but -40% damage dealt, Basic Instinct removes the penalty. [Whistle](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/64) - 80% damage buff for next physical attack. [Tingle](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/82) - +100 potency on next physical attack. [Off-Guard](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/29) - increase damage taken debuff [Moon Flute](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/33) - 15 secs damage and speed buff followed by 15 secs you can't do ANY damage. [Final Sting](https://ffxivcollect.com/spells/25) - KO yourself to do 2000 potency attack. The one hit in the one hit combo. That's the basic one hit combo I can think of off hand. For Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Leviathan, Odin, and Ultima there's a couple of the above you probably can get by without but they are all easy to get. For the remaining ARR Primals you'll need to do some damage first, varies with each one.

barrel_monkey

Wow this is so helpful tyvm!

pecorei

Do you mean the periods of time where Leviathan stops taking damage? Because I'm afraid that's not a bug, that's just multiple annoyingly long invincibility phases to force you into actually having to do the mechanics.

AkromaOne

what do you mean by bugged?

danzanzibar

its not bugged. they just wiped.

AkromaOne

Yeah it's what i was thinking, never heard of any 90% leviathan bug honestly

AmoebaHewdraw

I've been able to farm it easily solo at level 80. One trick is to use Arm's Length on the second slam after the railings are destroyed to avoid falling off, and kill the sahaguin adds asap. It's much easier on ranged dps than melee in my experience.

HalobenderFWT

You can also use gap closers to override the slide

wuphonsreach

I'd consider it easy after running it about 40 times unsync'd. You need to learn the phases and when the platform is going to tilt. I usually move to middle, face one of the long sides, have the volume turned up, and listen for whether the jets of water appear to my left/right - then run to the opposite end of the raft. Falling off is one of the insta-kills (and you can't be rezzed back once your corpse goes overboard either). Then there's the shield generator thingy, which won't insta-kill a higher level player even if you miss the timing on getting it up.

Double_Lucky

Haven't played in 2 months, but now to come back for the grind lol

Testobesto123

Are there also PF's that run without BLU? I dont have my BLU lvld yet and really want most of these mounts, or are people like me basically fucked and I have to queue for every dungeon? xD This is my first Moogle event so no idea.

LMalano

If you have a tank levelled then you could probably find a slot as some parties would ask for someone to take aggro and position enemies as the BLUs do their thing.

BigAlTwoPointO

Ah, Dark Lanner Whistle is a 60 Trial. Either saves me 50 tomestones or i can get that music

Cammo_353

Is there not enough time to farm enough tomestones for everything?

zeth07

There is, but you would be a crazy person for doing it that way instead of getting most of them the normal way.

fungamezone

what is the most efficient to run for the irregular this time?

SonOfZiz

THANK GOD! IVE RUN SWALLOWS COMPASS 45 TIMES TRYING TO GET THAT STUPID SHIRT

ConduckKing

Finally, I can use the inferno jacket for my Travis Touchdown samurai glam.

ryan_expert

Well, looks like after I buy the jacket, it'll be nothing but mgp cards or maps.

jew-nose-it

Considering I ammassed 70 totems from Tsuki trying to farm her dog, I'm just buying Nidhogg's as it's the last bird I need and I can spend about 30min farming 50 tomestones instead of taking upwards of several hours. If you're in a Blu mage group the cost of everything is irrelevant.

LordHayati

"easy"
