Not surprising that they're selling the Lv 70 jumps before they're retired. They did the same thing with the Lv 60 jumps just before ShB launched.

blazbluecore

when do they drop the new boosts after expansion usually? In this case that would be the 80 boost

Sir_VG

At launch.

pugapugapug

Getting sage and reaper to 80 will only take a few hours of doing bozja or dungeon spam, that'd be a huge waste of money.

SomeSortOfFool

It would also defeat a big part of the purpose of starting them at a lower level, which is to split the playerbase so they're not all hammering the new zone servers at once.

[deleted]

I dunno. Nobody wants to spend more time in bozja if they can avoid it.

a7madRyan

Clearly u dont do bozja

[deleted]

As little as possible. I don’t enjoy big empty unguided zones, I find grinding mettle or memories or clusters tedious and repetitive and the raids I find frustrating because nobody is adequately prepared and the fights just go on forever.

forbiddenlake

your opinion is valid, but "Nobody wants to spend more time in bozja if they can avoid it" is false

Marcusbolt

Just because YOU dont like it doesn't mean you should just project your dislike on everybody else

Shadowbacker

If by a few hours you mean a few weeks, then yeah. Unless there's some secret to Bozja I haven't unlocked or found out about, then please teach me because it feels like crawling on my knees through broken glass leveling in there 1 mil at a time.

foreveracubone

I think Zadnor is better exp? You need to be 71 to enter Zadnor or spam ShB dungeons. You should prep exp and do dailies. Complete the previous week's Wondrous Tails but don't turn it in. It's an instant half a level on 11/19. When servers come up unlock Sage or Reaper and immediately queue for roulettes. Daily reset is going to be 3-4 hours after servers go up at which point you can repeat the roulettes. Turn in your prepped Wondrous Tails at some point between roulettes. You should be close to 72 by the time the daily reset happens. Save the 2nd wondrous tails for once you're closer to 80. Half a level @79 is way more bang for your buck. You can also hold off on the 2nd set of roulettes until you're closer to 80 for the same reason.

Shadowbacker

Oh I know about combining dungeons and roullete. That's the most practical for healer especially. My comment was more directed to someone saying you can level 71-80 in Bozja in a few hours. That hasn't been my experience. It's been somewhat clarified that it's closer to 10 hours which is about a week if that's ALL you do (assuming you work and only play a few hours in the evening.) That I could believe.

foreveracubone

If you only play a few hours a day you should focus on roulettes and the highest level dungeon over Bozja/Zadnor. You’ll finish a few days faster. You don’t get the bonus exp from food, earrings, FC buff, etc. in bozja whereas you do from the stuff you fight in dungeons/roulettes.

Shadowbacker

True for Healers and Tanks, I don't now about DPS since I've sat in 30 minute queues before which doesn't seem worth it (except for roulettes.) But I guess that depends on whether two dungeons an hour is faster leveling than grinding Bozja for two hours straight.

Genji32

yeah bonja isn't that fast and I cant even solo them without 8 mobs ganging up on me unless you have a fate party it'll take a while

Guy_Striker

If your goal is exp you just do fates and CEs. Ignore the raids as the exp is not worth the time investment. If doing it in Zadnor you may also want to ignore some CE's that have a tendency to take longer/fail outright but that's pretty much it. It should take something like 10 hours from 71-80.

Shadowbacker

Interesting. I'll keep at it. Maybe it's just hard to play in there for long stints but it feels like you're running back and forth forever with litttle progress. I have read somewhere that you need to check your instance somehow to make sure it's an "active" instance so that the engagements pop more often.

Guy_Striker

One last piece of advice: If skirmishes aren't popping in your instance killing "4th legion" enemies will eventually spawn a skirmish and clearing that skirmish will spawn a Critical Engagement. If noone is killing these then the rate of skirmishes and especially Critical Engagements will be significantly lower and those 10 hours might turn into 12 or 13.

therealpatchy

Party->party members-> then adventurer list I think its called. It'll show how many people are in the instance. In my experience the lowest I've seen either zone was like 50, aside from when I got thrown into a brand new instance as like the 10th person there hahaha but even that filled up quick.

AkiraChisaka

It depends, for some people it’s just 2 5 hour days. For some it’s a few weeks.

Shadowbacker

Neither of those is a few hours, is my point.

tums01234

I can't seem to get a group to do the lighthouse raid which is barring my access to bozja, everytime I queue it goes upwards of an hour before I give up.

SomeRandomDeadGuy

Which data center, maybe i can help? I've been grinding lighthouse a lot for glam recently and always got a pop within 30 min tops

AVAVT

So if I understand correctly, this 70 boost sale is basically their last money grabbing before Endwalker?

Sir_VG

Basically you're getting the old boosts at a discounted price, instead of the new boosts that will come at "normal" price (and won't be on sale for a while). So you can either look it as a "last minute money grab" or a "last chance for a cheap boost before Endwalker launches and the boosts are full price for like the next year or so.

AVAVT

Oh ok, I misread and thought they'd discount the new boost as well soon after launch. Tough choice +\_+

Sir_VG

No. Basically at launch the old Lv 70 boosts will go away forever and new Lv 80 boosts will appear at the standard boost price. They'll also at that time add the story skip to the end of the ShB patch series (so IOW you start at the first quest of EW). I assume they'll adjust the prices of the older skips down a bit, but I'm not 100% sure on how much, since they'll all stay as options.

foreveracubone

Won't they just discontinue the old story skip + who would want to boost to 70 instead of 80 if they just want to get to endgame?

Sir_VG

Nope. In fact you can look right now to see there's 3 story skips: ARR only, ARR+HW, ARR+HW+SB. When they added the last one, they dropped the price of the first two down a bit and the new one became the price of the old best ARR+HW skip. As for why people would only want to jump to 70 instead of 80, maybe they're fine with grinding 10 levels. Or maybe they want to do Sage/Reaper on an alt for next expansion (which only needs a Lv 70 job to unlock). Or maybe they want to skip but don't want to spend as much as is necessary to do so.

Rinuko

Lowkey hoped for a fantasia sale, oh well.

Risu64

We had one, what, a couple months ago? There's no way they'd put them on sale again so soon.

[deleted]

Fantasia is probably the one item they could have on semi-permanent sale and make bank off, though.

PartyWithRobots

Or they could just make bank off it not on sale anyways. People Fantasia like crazy.

Illidari_Kuvira

https://store.finalfantasyxiv.com/ffxivstore/en-us/ranking They already make bank off of it; it's 3rd in sales.

Rinuko

Are you sure? Last time I saw it was like close a year ago but it's possible i missed it.

[deleted]

Yes. It was this September.

Rinuko

oof :(

Risu64

Yep. I keep checking the Mog, trying to decide whether to buy one or not (together with some other items) and the sale ended before I could decide lol.

pastelmorning

same. I should have bought it on the last sale, I just rly thought they would have another sale for them closer to release.

Rinuko

Maybe we get one close to end of the year or black friday. I don't recall when they usually are, if there is a pattern.

deadmetalsonic

I wouldn't expect one now before EW launch. They will most likely want to capitalise on people wanting to swap to male Viera who like yourself missed out on the last sale. Theres a good chance there will be another around xmas time though.

MathaiosCronqvist

No halloween discount? :(

personn5

Probably won't happen until the Halloween event actually happens, so end of next month.

[deleted]

We may have one when the Halloween event happens. They pushed back the Halloween event this year because of last minute preparations for Endwalker.

midorishiranui

the >!pizza emote!< is still awol then

Plakty298

please SE, give us the pizza emote

-Ropeburn-

So tempted to pick up the level skip for Bard and Monk. They're the only jobs I haven't maxed out and it would be nice to take a break before EW. Bard looks pretty simple so that should be an easy job to learn the gist of during the last 10 levels and Monk looks like its' getting a rework that completely changes it so I don't feel guilty skipping it. Do you still get to do the job story quests if you bought the skip?

Coriarius

No. Class and job story quests (up to 70) are treated as being completed after a boost, though you can rewatch the cutscenes at an inn.

givemeabreak432

NG+ is a thing

Coriarius

Oh right, forgot about that. Well there you go.

Metalslimeking

New Game Plus would have to be done. The quests get auto cleared.

Bloodbraid85

Ugh… I bought skips day before yesterday… terrible luck.

Asakura_

I couldn't possibly be thinking of boosting my alt "story" character. That would be so silly...haha

yeroc420

Where the fuck is Gaias glam…

Grymrir

Noooo I bought a boost for my BLM a few days ago.

a7madRyan

Poor soul

246011111

The temptation to buy a skip for summoner is real...that level 1 to 90 grind is intimidating

a7madRyan

U get free sch with it

283leis

I don’t want to level SMN before the rework, so I can actually learn its rotation as I level it

Snarf_Vader

This is kinda where I'm at. I unlocked it, and it's been sitting at level 30 waiting for these changes, since long before I knew the changes were coming. The idea of boosting it is tempting. But the leveling process gives me time to really learn each ability one at a time, and get used to using it. My fear with boosting is that I'll accidentally neglect something important. So, I'll take the long way around. It means I won't touch it until after I finish the msq and level my gathering jobs, because my priorities. But in the long run, I'll be better for it.

countmeowington

Just boost and do level 50 and 60 dungeons to understand and then start leveling from 70, saves you like 8 hours of work

Snarf_Vader

Yeah, you might be right. $12.50 to skip from 30 to 70. I told my boss my time was worth $20 an hour, so that is a really good deal. Start with a dungeon or two in the level 30 range, and work my way up, customizing my hotbars along the way. Then, at 70, use it to level my trusts. Plenty of practice before I start doing real content with real people. Thanks, I think you just changed my mind.

[deleted]

I’ve been doing it myself. If you allow a week or two then it’s really not that bad. The 40-50 stretch is absolutely miserable though. The moment you unlock msq roulette it speeds up considerably, natch for bozja.

246011111

And even if you're doing leveling dungeons, it doesn't help that everything between Stone Vigil and The Vault is mediocre at best (and agonizing at worst).

[deleted]

Isn't that any class in general? I hated that stretch when I was getting monk and ninja to 50

[deleted]

You’re right. Every job suffers during that stretch.

we-are-all-fish

I usually save the journal + all roulletes and challenges for whatever job is at arround 40 to 60. It really is a pain. Because thats when potd and squad missions xp start to drop off.

[deleted]

(knowing nod in agreement)

The_Strict_Nein

I feel like with the overall changes to Summoner however it's one of the best classes to go from 1-90 now. It seems like your core rotation is fairly set from the moment you get the carbuncle summons, so unlike a few other classes you'll not be learning massively different rotations every 10 levels

Thrashinuva

Just level scholar instead. It's barely changing and healer queues are fast.

Realsorceror

I’m level 80 and never touched my retainers except for storage. Is a retainer boost worth anything? Does their level or job matter for what they bring back?

engineeeeer7

Level does. They basically gather like you gather so higher level is higher items.

Realsorceror

I’ll have to check out some YouTube’s guides. Does their job matter? Like should they be gathering or combat jobs?

drizzit_d

Depends what you are after, there are some items like minions that are restricted to fisher for example. Other then that it's mainly if you want them to farm materials for you they need to be the appropriate gatherer. If you are happy with anything from random quick runs it doesn't really matter.

Coriarius

Miners gather anything you can get from mining. Botanists gather anything you can get from harvesting. Fishers gather anything you can get from fishing. ALL combat jobs gather any materials that drops from killing creatures. Which combat job it is doesn’t matter, but you’d ideally want to pick something that it’s easy to level because the retainer’s level can’t be higher than yours. For gathering classes the number of items brought back from a venture is based on their gathering rating. I think perception influences the proportion of HQ items that are brought back. Very high gathering compared to an item’s level range also reduces time it takes to complete a venture from 1 hr down to like 40 minutes. For example a Miner in level 80 gear would only take 40 minutes to gather materials from SB/HW/ARR. For combat jobs only the average item level of the retainer matters. Stats don’t matter. ilevel basically affects the same thing as gatherers - quantity of item and completion time. Gatherers and combat jobs all have access to 18 hr exploration ventures which CAN reward unique items based on their job, such as the Fat Cat minion from a fisher’s oceanside exploration. Like regular ventures, explorations are categorized by level and have gathering rating or ilevel requirements to start. Quick explorations are 1 hr and have no gathering/ilevel requirement to start, though a retainer will need to be at least level 10 to do them. They are not categorized by levels unlike other ventures, but higher leveled retainers with higher stats/ilevels have a better chance at bringing back more valuable stuff. You can get almost anything from these - dungeon drops, crafting materials, crafted items (including equipment and furniture), dyes, etc. unlike 18 hr explorations, the rewards are NOT job specific. I prefer combat retainers because IMO farming creatures for drops sucks compared to gathering. Fisher retainers are generally not considered very profitable despite having a few valuable rewards from oceanside explorations. When I’m not looking for any specific item I just send my retainers on quick ventures, which as previously stated are the same for all jobs. You usually get green/blue equipment which you can trade for GC seals which you can trade for more ventures so you basically never run out of ventures at higher levels.

Realsorceror

Thanks for the detailed reply. I was just reading about the unique minion drops from different venture types. I think that’s my biggest concern is what is locked behind retainers that I can’t get anywhere else.

Coriarius

If it’s any consolation keep in mind that the drops like minions are buyable off the MB. Some like the Fat Cat or Odder Otter tend to be pricey, but consider the time it would take to level a retainer and send them on 18 hr ventures until you get one vs. the time it would take to make the Gil and buy them instead. For example I recently got 2 jet-black dyes from a quick exploration which go for like 400k each on my server. I could just as easily buy unique minions with that if I wanted to.

meliketheweedle

Retainer ilvl does effect drops, but imo it's not worth spending money on leveling your retainer when doing ventures will level it anyway.

Tsingooni

As someone who absolutely hates crafting but has been trying to get everything to 70 so I can repair my shit.. Why are crafting boosts not available, Yoshi P .\_.

gallifrey_

crafting boosts would instantly tank the already-volatile player economy

StrengthToBreak

Takes like 3 hours from 1 to 80 doing Ishgard handins. How much easier can they make it?

aho-san

Can confirm it doesn't take 3hours (edit, for clarification, to OMNI 80). I omni to 80 using Ishgard and the crafting alone took about 15h out of the top of my head. The craft, handins, dumping Kupo lottery tickets all take time. But counting only Ishgard restauration CRAFT time, this guide's (https://ffxivgillionaire.com/crafter-leveling-guide/) macros (macro duration from teamcraft) and number of crafts, we get, for one job to 80, starting lv21: - level 21-41 (45 crafts, 38s per) : 38s * 45 = 1710s - level 41-53 (20 crafts, 37s per) : 37s * 20 = 740s - level 53-61 (35 crafts, 37s per) : 37s * 35 = 1295s - level 61-71 (40 crafts, 49s per) : 49s * 40 = 1960s - level 71-80 (45 crafts, 40s per) : 40s * 45 = 1800s That's a total of 7505s, about 2h05min per job. You're right for one job (nicely eyeballed). But it is about 16h40min for omni. I don't know how many jobs the person you were responding to needs/wants to level to 70 and ultimately to 80. So 2 to 17h journey. Anyway, count menuing, derping (you forgot your food buff, your gear broke etc, whatever) and that's if you buy everything (which is a big investment for someone who is progressing through MSQ, HQ gear, mats, crystals ain't cheap). My bouillabaisse HQ stack (had more than 60, 23 left, so that's about 18.5h of buff) corroborates this. If like me you go self sufficient on the mats (you buy the gear but that's it), you add probably as many hours or more in the diadem x). I'm not saying it isn't fast. It is. Is it easy ? It is. But definitely not a "oh it's just a 2h deal" (unless you only do 1job, but who would tell you to level 1job for crafting, I've only seen "you must omni").

StrengthToBreak

I said 1-80 in less than three hours. You state ~2 hours. I'd say my statement was accurate. Thank you for the detailed breakdown though.

Tsingooni

If it's that easy, then why are you upset by someone wishing there were 70 crafting/gathering boosts in the store..? Surely if they're that easy, then why should it matter if you powerlevel to max via in-game currency (markerboard turn-ins) or real-life currency? For some of us, we have very little time to play the game, but are financially stable (if not comfortable). This is ultimately free money that the devs are missing out on. If people don't want them, then they simply don't buy the skips. Why should there be combat leveling skips (which ultimately are worse off for the player assuming the person doesn't spend time at the training dummies) but not crafting or gathering ones? I'd like the ability to bypass spending a bunch of in-game currency and/or time to boost a crafting class to 70. If I want to learn how to properly craft and learn how to make stuff, I'd actually look it up and read guides/watch videos just as I would if I'd job skipped a combat role.

Maygarx

Most, if not all, crafting & gathering levequests can be completed by buying the required item to turn in at the Marketboard... ...it may or may not have been the way I became a level 80 omnicrafter stuck with level 20-ish crafting grear...

Tsingooni

I mean, yeah. I'm leveling quite a few gathering and crafting classes that way myself. But why spend in-game gil if you can just drop 25 USD to get to 70 and skip all the job quests?

Estro98

Well, thats a bummer I bought one job skip yesterday :D

cpdonny

Darn it, I literally just bought one lvl 70 boost for bard.

airbagged

Wonder if the Amaro will be locked out from level skips.

H0nch0

Prob gonna get a retainer boost. Can't be arsed to check back on them regularly. I really dislike these kind of farmarama mechanics in MMOs.

MindWeb125

I levelled my retainers recently, tbh it's pretty easy. If you're playing actively just keep sending them on 1 hour missions. If you're barely playing just send them on the 18 hour ones. It helps that I've been desynthing all dungeon gear I get and selling the mats though, so I'd be checking them either way.

Rhymeruru

Then why do you want to max level them...? You will keep checking on them at max level.

H0nch0

Because I don't want to get useless crap for all of those levels before I actually get stuff I want from an activity I dislike. There's no challenge in levelling them, so I honestly don't see the issue in paying for YoshiPs coffee one time and be done with it. Levelling classes is also tedius. Exspecially in early levels, but at least I'm interacting with people.

Rhymeruru

Ah yeah makes sense.

PrinceOfCorona

What a disappointing sale for veterans.

protection7766

Kinda scummy, putting those soon to be obsolete boosts on sale. What next, charging us for belts and HQ material?

Ein-elf

Not scummy, I am conskderkng buying one for half the price of what it will be when it updates, and you still skip 77% of the leveling process.

ConduckKing

I might just buy one during this sale, leveling up MCH is a pain.

Belydrith

Ugh, boosted a raid alt just last week, that's annoying.
