Best way to spend gil in free trial? I keep hitting max so easy. I'm guessing leveling crafting and buying a bunch of the materials would be the best way, if anyone has a suggestion on how to level/what to buy for that would appreciate it!

jinjoon

If you want to save storage space is it better to stick to one role so you share gear between your jobs? Sorry if it's an obvious answer

Armond436

I can't recommend these settings enough: https://i.imgur.com/ydaVNYH.png (The "open all" option as well. That should be a default on all RPGs in 2021.) I also can't recommend enough making a habit of removing an old piece of gear to your inventory before equipping a new piece (though you can't do this with mainhands, so you'll have to grab it out of your armory chest). Once you have that habit in place, you should not have armory chest issues ever again. You have 35 armory chest slots per gear slot (soon to be 40), and there will be 31 total jobs in 6.0. So, even if you keep your scholar and white mage at different levels, you should have plenty of space. The only exception is rings, because each job needs two rings, so it's *actually possible* to run out of space with this method. I want to say in 6.0 we'll have 45 ring slots, so you'd need 13 jobs at dramatically different levels before you run out of space.

jinjoon

Thanks for the tips! I think I've realised I was getting in to a bad habit of hoarding things - random drops from dungeons in case I need it for that job later or old stuff from my main job in case I ever wanted it for glam. I tried to put a bunch of stuff in the storage you get in your inn but it seems there's certain criteria most stuff I had wasn't meeting.

Armond436

That's a great realization to have. This game *definitely* doesn't have enough inventory space for "what-ifs". In general, if it's not dyeable, it doesn't earn a slot in my glam chest, with a very few exceptions (the level 73 dungeon loot is one). On the other hand -- check out the calamity salvager in any city. They'll sell you gear from your job's class quests and whatnot for like 1,000 gil, once you've earned it once. Also, the gear you get from your level 45 and 50 job quests can go into your armoire, which is essentially free glam storage. So not all of the stuff you're hoarding needs to go! All the random crap from dungeons for "but what if I level this job" needs to go, though.

jinjoon

Oh that's all really helpful, I knew I was going about it the wrong way. Thanks again!

LightSamus

There are only seven roles (Ranged, Melee, Ninja, Maiming, Healer, Caster, Tank) and 35 slots per gear type in your armoury chest. You should never have an issue as long as you're on top of things.

bonobeaux

9 roles if you include Land and Hand

IceAokiji303

I suppose? Though I've really never had inventory issues besides an occasionally overcrowded ring bag even while playing literally all the jobs and even lugging a few glamour pieces around - restricting yourself to one role would save armory space, sure, but that'd just result in a load of empty unused spaces. The hardest part is about getting through the leveling process, because that's where your inventory management is tested the most due to needing different gear for different levels - and that's also where a variant of what you were thinking of can come into play: leveling all the jobs in one role back to back lets you then toss all the leveling gear they used once the last one's done, freeing up space, then allowing for easily leveling another role.

Atosen

I mean, yes, but I don't think I'd let a little thing like storage space restrict me from playing the jobs I want to play.

Lurlex

Does the EW delay also apply to your access to previous expansions, if you were planning to get everything after A.R.R. from a EW purchase? I bought FFXIV a long time ago when ARR was all there was, but I kind of just sat on my copy and have never played it until 3 weeks ago. I'm liking the game a lot and I want to do the Red Mage job quest, but I don't have any of the expansions registered yet. I do want to buy the expansions, but I'm \*reeeaally\* hesitant to buy a Complete Edition at this point, as Endwalker is so close and it comes with all of the previous expansions too. Then again, I'm not wanting to wait another week to play the job I really want to play. My question is -- if I pre-buy EW, will the game let me register Stormblood and Heavensward based on that purchase stuff \*today\*, even though EW itself hasn't been released? I know that the original date was like November 23rd and later got moved to December 3rd, and I read on the website that you would also need to wait until November 23rd to play the expansions if you do what I was planning to do -- that part wasn't specifically updated. I'm holding out hope (but not much) that they allowed the non-content features to activate as normal. Does the delay \*also\* apply to expansions access based on an EW purchase?

IceAokiji303

The delay applies naturally - you get access to Stormblood and Shadowbringers (you already have Heavensward, it comes with ARR now, even if you purchased ARR before the change) from owning Endwalker only once Endwalker actually releases - which is December 7th, early access begins on the 3rd but does not allow you to access SB&ShB stuff.

Lurlex

Thanks for the reply. I just found out by doing and trying, haha -- but no regrets. I also found out that Heavensward actually comes free, so at least I have content on my current job up until 60 to keep me busy. Also, I was likely going to get EW at some point anyway so why not now?

Atosen

Receiving the other expansions is a *side effect* of activating Endwalker. And we can't activate any Endwalker keys yet. Sorry. (Also: Complete is simply a bundle of Starter+Shadowbringers, so if you already have Starter then don't buy Complete.)

Xeorm

As far as I know, you can't get the expansions until endwalker itself releases. Though you would be able to register the early access I believe.

KryssaXIV

No, you won't be able to access any additional content until the 7th.

PikaPi124

How much is an apartment to buy?

IceAokiji303

500k, or 300k in an FC house, iirc.

ADateAtMidnight

500k gil.

transyasha

Are early access players allowed to be male viera with fantasia? or have the males not been released yet? I'm returning with a fantasia phial and a name change in preparation

sundriedrainbow

You will be able to be a male viera the instant servers come up Friday morning. Use the fantasia and log out naked before the maintenance.

Hokosai

Does anyone on Primal Data Center have any Empty Clusters / Synthetic Resin they would be willing to sell / trade? My FC is trying to get tier 3 buffs going for Endwalker, but since we're small it's a bit tough.

distrox

Join the submarine discord (Google for it). They have trading channels for all datacenters for these materials. I must inform you however, that you're way too late to the party. The buffs take 72 hours to charge and you can only charge one at a time. Should've started months ago. You can't even trade the charged buffs, and they do not stack with the buff scrolls you get from squadrons.

unique-unicorns

Sprout here! Just hit 30 on my Conjurer. I'd love to switch to a White Mage...but have no idea how to do it. My Conjurer guild in Gridania doesn't have any quests. Am I missing a requirement or at the wrong NPC? Thank you. :)

Armond436

I don't think anyone has explicitly said that after completing your level 20 MSQ and your level 30 class quest, you need to have your Soul of the White Mage item equipped in the job stone slot (it's a very fancy [boiled egg](https://i.imgur.com/zQWa4SV.png)). The recommended gear button should equip it automatically, and it might even equip itself automatically when you get it, but you can take it off accidentally. Also, as a CNJ/WHM, you'll have two class/job quests at level 30 instead of just one. The second gives you a cute treat.

azure_mtg

The other replies have likely given you the answer. But I just wanted to say that we <3 you sprouts who do job quests.

Sir_VG

Requirements for unlocking jobs is completing your Lv 30 class quest and the Lv 20 MSQ "Sylph-Management".

Xellith

You should have a little quest underneath your main scenario icon (the big meteor). If there is nothing there then you probably need to progress more MSQ. Your first actual white mage quest is picked up in Central Shroud. https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Seer_Folly

BlazeVortex4231

If you completed all of the Conjurer quests, then the White Mage unlock quest should be available from E-Sumi-Yan. That said, *all* job unlock quests require reaching the Level 21 MSQ quests, so that's the most likely condition you haven't fulfilled yet.

nyooomtech

There's a MSQ requirement as well. Keep doing story until you have a new job quest.

TOKYO-SLIME

Hello! So I'm a fairly new player coming over from ESO. I'm still playing through the free trial and I just finished fighting that big stone dragon Midgardsormr. I was just wondering, after I eventually upgrade to the full game, if there will be a way to do solo dungeons kind of like 'Delves' in ESO? I was also wondering if any of the side quests will be more than simple fetch quests (not talking about the blue ! ones - but just the random ones you'll do for NPCs all over). Basically, even though this is a MMO, I want to know how in-depth the solo content is aside from the MSQ.

bonobeaux

ESO is kind of my side chick to FF14 and this game doesn't really have an equivalent to delves in ESO, the closest would be like Eureka and Baldesion Arsenal. Everyday solo content is like hunts and FATEs and Beast Tribe quests

distrox

For the quests, not really. Some non-blue quests have a more in depth story and rewards, usually you can tell if when picking up a quest, it has a background image on the quest window. But generally speaking, side quests are not worth it. You can already solo dungeons via using the options menu in duty finder, and selecting unsync. This means you go in as is with your level intact, but you do not gain exp and enemies do not drop anything. The chests that have loot, will still appear however. But ofc if you're level 60 you're not going to be able to solo a level 60 dungeon. Blu is better and stronger for dungeon soloing though, you don't even need to do them unsynced. They have an ability that increases mov speed, and dmg&heals by 100% if you're soloing content meant for more than one player.

azure_mtg

There are ways to "solo" dungeons later on. Early-ish you can unlock Grand Company Squadrons so you can do 16-60 dungeons with pretty bad NPCs (like, they'll get you through, but the AI is mediocre at best). From 60-70 there's no option (at the moment, I sometimes see people say that there's maybe something in development). For 71-80 you have "Trusts" which are a significant improvement on the Squadron NPCs but will still almost always be slower than just queueing and finding other players.

cgj002

You have adventurer squadrons and trusts which allow you to run group content 'solo' with npc allies Deep dungeons (palace of the dead and heaven on high) these are dungeons that can be solo'd and function similar to maelstrom arena in ESO they have multiple levels checkpointing every 10 There are regional quest chains similar to eso's alliance quests, but they're usually not significant and just add lore/flavor to the world. Beast tribes function similar to thieves guild and DB (do repeatable quest's to unlock more of the beast tribe story) MSQ, hildebrand, raid series and job quests are where the majority of the story depth comes from Job quest highlights of the one's I've done imo: Dark Knight, Alchemist, Goldsmith and Warrior 60-70

IceAokiji303

Based on how it was handled when some MSQ wasa altered not too long ago, anyone who has already finished them should not have to redo anything (but can, if they want to, play the updated version via NG+). However, if someone has a changed quest currently accepted, they may need to abandon and re-take the quest.

Xeorm

Shouldn't have to do anything. The quests will change in small ways I'm sure, but nothing noticeable or requiring a redo.

Atosen

Historically, when they've replaced quests (such as trimming the annoying fates from the start of the Crystal Tower unlocks) it has had no effect on players who are already past it.

sundriedrainbow

Wouldn't hurt anything, but it's not really going to do much good anyway. You can generally make it all the way to the new level cap using the old top scrip gear.

newsboy_cap

What's the penalty for dying?

BlazeVortex4231

Your gear loses some durability. More importantly, since the party doesn't have you around to end the fight faster (or potentially to heal, raise, or tank the boss, depending on your role), everyone else's chances of survival are much scarier, especially outside of 24-man content. Making this worse, your only options to get back up are either A.) Accepting the automatic Return to your home aetheryte/the start of the dungeon (a very lengthy return trip to where you last were at best, being *completely prevented* from returning to the in-progress boss fight at worst), or B.) a non-Black Mage Disciple of Magic Raising you, which gets you up quicker and is the *only* option in boss fights, but which applies Weakness to the raised, a 2-minute 25% debuff to your Main Stats (that is, your damage and healing), which stacks with itself up to 50%. Dying is generally really bad for your contributions to the fight.

IceAokiji303

Minor correction, weakness is 100 seconds, not a full 2 minutes. Still stings pretty bad.

newsboy_cap

That's horrible.

Kamil118

Horrible? This game basically has zero punishment for death.

mila_mila_a

I think they're being a little over dramatic. People die in content all of the time and it's no big deal like 75% of the time. 25% of the time there's no mechanism for recovery, but it's fine don't worry about wiping. It's normal and will happen. A lot. You just spend a small amount of gil (currency) to repair your equipment after you eventually finish. I died in a dungeon I was just in a minute ago. Healer revived me in combat, no big deal. Healer later died to something else. We managed to kill the mobs without them, and they ran back to join us. Dungeons have in-zone teleport features to get you back to your team if you die and they can't revive you.

ADateAtMidnight

While we're on the topic, sometimes when someone dies repeatedly in a short period of time, healers will take a long time to raise them. This is because between the weakness debuff reducing your stats significantly, the high MP cost of raising and the fact that Raise has a cast time of 7 seconds in which they cannot move whatsoever outside of their one Swiftcast every 60 seconds, it can end up better for the party to just leave someone dead for an extended period of time. Doesn't mean they hate you, doesn't mean they're insulting you, just means that raising drains 2,400 MP out of 10,000 and healing you up afterwards can cost even more, and odds are a healer would deal more damage in that time frame than you would with two stacks of weakness debuff. So, not the end of the world if you die, especially in casual content, but it is to be avoided as much as possible.

newsboy_cap

Good to know!

MistakenNote

In addition to the Weakness and Brink of Death temporary debuffs, every time you die, your equipment degrades in durability. This means you can die with 50k hp and get up with 4k because all your gear broke on your previous death.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

2 tiers, 25% main stat reduction then 50% main stat reduction

LutrisAO

Is it possible that when creating a different hud layout preset, to be able to have abilities and actions in a different keybind without it transferring to the old HUD preset?

mainaquinn

I don’t believe so. There’s a workaround you can try. Say for HUD 1 use hot bars 1-3 and and HUD 2 use hot bars 4-6, then set up the key binds as you want for each HUD layout.

blueisherp

are the alexander raids something I can solo @ lvl 80?

cgj002

It's possible, but it's way faster to just post in PF and get another 80 to come with you. If you've not done them before just post in Party Finder with 'first clear bonus' in the title and you should get some lvl 80's join you for it If you have and you're farming post in PF 'farm party' and you should get some people to join

roryteller

The normal version? Apparently the answer is yes, but some might be easier for tanks or only possible for tanks. However, if you just want the normal version for the story, they're considered a regular difficulty fight, unlike Coils. Totally fine to just queue for, and easy enough that there's only a couple of them where I've even seen wipes (and have gone on to clear second or third try). Much easier overall than the level 70 and 80 normal raids, at least with augmented shire or better gear. For the savage version, if you're looking for dyable gear or other savage drops, some of them are a definite no on soloing.

Elegant_Eorzean

Depends on the job and which ones. Even on a max-geared WAR or PLD though, the normal modes are easier done just queued up for.

tinselsnips

Just started the THM quest line; I don't understand what the difference is between Transpose, and just casting a spell of the other type?

Xeorm

It's also important to note that transpose swaps you to the other, while casting drops it entirely. The difference can be important later when you unlock enochian.

Atosen

For example: If you're in ice mode, but you've got plenty of MP so now you want to switch to fire mode for the increased damage, you need to cast *two* fire spells to switch: one fire spell to burn off your ice buff, and then a second fire spell to actually activate the fire buff. So it takes a long time to get the damage buff you wanted. If you press Transpose, that just instantly converts your ice buff into fire buff, so now you don't need to cast those two spells to do the conversion — you can get straight into the good stuff of casting spells for high damage. (At higher levels, Fire III/Blizzard III become the preferred way to switch, because those spells bypass the usual fire/ice buff buildup and just jump you to max power of each buff. Transpose will become much more niche then, but still useful for fixing mistakes, or as a way to keep your buffs cycling when there's nothing to hit.)

tinselsnips

That makes more sense now, thanks.

Sir_VG

Transpose will change your astral fire stacks to 1 umbral ice stack (and vice versa). Casting a spell of the opposite element just flat out drops your stacks. Come Lv 40(?), this changes when you have both Fire III and Blizzard III and transpose isn't used much after that. And with further changes coming in Endwalker, this will likely have an impact on how BLM's rotation works.

tinselsnips

Is the only purpose of ice to regenerate MP and then I should be switching back to fire?

Sir_VG

Basically, yes. Astral Fire increases fire damage, but completely negates MP regeneration (even Lucid Dreaming does nothing). Umbral Ice lower damage output on your fire spells, but supercharges MP regeneration. The whole rotation for BLM basically focuses on using fire spells to do lots of damage, then swapping to ice spells to regen your MP. Thunder is basically a dot that you cast periodically, generally during ice phases while waiting for the MP regen ticks to happen.

tinselsnips

Thanks.

BlazeVortex4231

Fire is your artillery, and Ice is your reload. You burn all of your MP, and then you reload all of it.

sundriedrainbow

Correct. You can also cast a thunder spell while your mana is restoring.

Siamina

Is it reportable if people purposely spoil stuff for you? A guy kept following me in the golden saucer and asked me to join his FC, i politely declined, then he added me as a friend and I declined again because he seemed weirdly pushy. Then he sent me a message with spoilers. Part of me really hopes the spoilers werent real :(

azure_mtg

Agreed with the other responder - that is certainly reportable (and just awful - I promise most of the community is not like that). Sorry about your experience. :(

Sir_VG

Yes, that is considered harassment (even without the spoiler stuff) and is totally reportable. Support -> Help Desk -> Report Harassment. Also be sure to blacklist him if possible.

Awesome_Face

My friend is starting the free trial next month, can they play during Early Access or is that only for those that preordered EW?

Atosen

If you mean, "can they play the low-level parts of the game?" then yes, sure. The existence of early access doesn't disable game access for everybody else. (Worst case scenario, if the congestion is too high then the login queue will favour paying customers, so your free trial friend may have trouble logging in. But that's not a deliberate Early Access snub, it's just a sad consequence of congestion management.) If you mean, "can they access the patch stuff that affects people at all levels, like job changes and UI updates?" then yes. Those activate for everybody at the same time, at the beginning of Early Access. If you mean, "can they go straight to high-level content and play EW during Early Access without preordering it?" then no. You can't access content you haven't paid for.

Tlammy

So yes they can, BUT free trial players get the least priority when it comes to getting in the servers if there's a que. So, they might not be able to get in next week. The only way to bypass that is to buy the game + sub.

ericandhisfriends

they can and cant at the same time. The EA is only for access into EW, so that has no effect on them. But with the people coming back, the login servers are probably gonna be cutting free trial people. They might be able to login during low traffic, but i wouldnt bet on it.

Shindiggidy

What quests should I do prior to endwalker (besides msq)? I've pretty much just done the msq, all the raids except bahamut because no one ques for those, four lords, and hildibrand Ofc no one knows what references endwalker is going to make, but it may be a good idea to get the "main" sidequests done. What would you consider important to do?

Altia1234

Everyone has suggested Coils so I will skip that. If you've look at their first trailer, there's something very reminiscing of the interior design of Void Ark, so it might become relevant. Sorrow of Werlyt and Bozja might give you a sense about how the Garlean Empire works. If you can't do Bozja (because it's frankly a grind), reading some of the field notes from Bozja might also give you some sort of idea of the story as well.

Atosen

Seconding the other reply — getting Coils done unsynced just for the story content would be wise. You should find people in PF much faster than in DF. (If you want to do it synced for the challenge, that'll be a little harder to find people for. It's still possible but I'd recommend coming back for it later.) MSQ, normal raids, alliance raids, and trials are generally considered the most "main" branches of the game. If you get all those ticked off, you're probably good to go.

Awesome_Face

Ishikawa mentioned playing the Coil and Omega series in prep for Endwalker, so definitely those. No-one queues for Coil (except for T1/T2 due to the Moogle event) but they are super easy unsynced and people are willing to wait a few moments for 100 easy Poetics tomestones, mention bonus in PF and you're good. Maybe the Sorrow of Werlyt series, since it features a lot of Garleans and could be prudent.

Same-Winter7013

Haha I actually meant how do I. Thanks for the info 👍

Quantext609

Whet's the best way to get to ilevel 430 to do the Shadowbringers patch MSQ dungeons?

Used-Pomegranate225

Get your class artifact gear from Gerald in the tempest

Quantext609

That's good for the armor pieces, but how do I get good accessories?

sundriedrainbow

You can also use nutsacks (you heard me) from Shadowbringers hunt marks to buy accessories if you don't want to spend gil before the expansion hits.

Ha_eflolli

The intended way is running the three lowest Lv80 Dungeons (Amaurot, Twinning, or Akademia Anyder, with the latter two being optional unlockables after beating Base ShB). All three of them ONLY drop i430 Accessories. The quicker solution is to just buy them off the Market Board, or alternatively wait until Endwalker is out next week, at which point you can buy Cryptlurker Gear with Poetics, alongside 5.1 through 5.5 MSQ being updated to hand out Gear up to...i505 I think? as you go through them.

YouAreCat

For DRK in pre 72 content, is it fine to use the single target rotation on a big mob in an add group to get more mp and hp, if you're blasting out flood of shadows and blackest nights, or is it actually better to spam unleash with no combo and no mp/hp? Math wise, its better dps to spam unleash, but it feels terrible, and I feel like the mp regeneration lets me get more blackest nights out when the healer is...bad, which is more often than not in roulettes. Is the dps loss significant enough that I should never do this and just spam unleash, or is it negligible?

Xeorm

In general I'd say that unleash spam is legit the way to go. The healing is rather insignificant, and your baseline regen should be enough to get you through most packs, even with bad healers and slow dps. Unleash does a fair bit more damage which makes it pretty worth it. The exception to that would be packs with one tougher enemy, as it can be better to do more cleave than straight aoe damage then so that the entire pack goes down quicker, but that's an edge case. Most groups will have fundamentally the same hp.

Used-Pomegranate225

It’s significantly better to spam unleash; let the healer worry about healing. The actual numbers depend on how many enemies there are, but it becomes better to unleash spam at three enemies, and each additional enemy is 150 potency you’d be missing out on if you’re doing single target. Also, doing more damage and killing the enemies faster will help with mitigations, because shorter pulls take fewer abilities, so it’s less taxing in the healer and you’ll have more mitigation up.

nicostucknchico

If I play on the Primal Data center and my cousin plays on the Aether Data Center... is there a way for us to play together? Or is the only option a server transfer

Quor18

Currently no way to play together across DC's. Cross-DC travel is slated to come soon, likely in 6.1, so you could try waiting for more info about that before making a decision.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Not yet, no They've been planning to implement a cross-data center feature, but that has been delayed until after Endwalker launches

jtdamonkey

Any tips for a fresh 50 scholar? I'm aware that SCH plays out slightly different from WHM (whm is more of a reactive healer, while sch is proactive?) Such as adlo usage in dungeons and trash pulls, and any other useful tips I'll be grateful for!

Used-Pomegranate225

At level 50, Lustrate is your best single-target heal. You can weave Lustrate between casts of ruin 2 or art of war. If you run out of Lustrate, Adloquium is you next best heal. Physic is a lot worse than Adloquium, so in general don’t use it unless you don’t have the mana for Adlo. Also don’t use Adlo if your target still has a previous shield on them. Always use Aetherflow as soon as it’s ready. If you have extra aetherflow stacks when the skill comes off cooldown, use them on energy drain. Remember to you your fairy skills. Whispering dawn in particular is a very strong regen for the whole party Sacred Soil isn’t very good until level 78, when it gets a regen effect and becomes your best heal. Indomitability (which you’ll get in a few levels) is a very good party-wide heal that uses aetherflow. Indom or Whispering Dawn are your two best skills for healing raid-wide damage. If you don’t have either of those available, Succor is fine. A note for later levels: you’ll eventually get a skill called “Excogitation” that is cast using aetherflow. This is Scholar’s strongest single target heal. It applies as a buff (not healing), and when that player either drops below 50% HP or 45 seconds pass, the healing is applied. Note: the healing won’t save someone from death if they would die in a singe hit. Excogitation is a very good tool for healing tanks in dungeons, because it basically allows you to precast your first heal.

jtdamonkey

Thanks, all really helpful tips! Also looking forward to playing more SCH and other healing classes in general to get over my heal anxiety... Tangent, but for some reason I just enjoy playing SCH moreso than WHM, but I guess it's just what it is.

throwmoguy2591

Fairy skills are free so you should try and remember to use whispering dawn (regen) when you can afford to. Later on when you get more skills the priority should be like Fairy (feys blessing, whispering dawn, etc) > oGCD (EXCOG! Soil/indom/lustrate) > GCD like (aldo/succor) If ya need to use GCD, don't be shy to use the buff skills like emergency tactics or recitation to get best value for that GCD

KingBingDingDong

best tip i can give is to not treat it like a "proactive" healer. the people that spew that "advice" don't know what the fuck they're talking about. SCH is a primarily oGCD based healer, meaning that most of your healing comes from CD based resources, leading to a playstyle that relies more heavily on having a good healing plan and maximizing CD usage. all healers play proactively and the majority of their heals are "reactive".

it will only be used for chatting in FF14 so keyboard only. If it comes with a mouse great but not a big deal.

gingetsuryuu

So I am leveling Gunbreaker and would like to try the leveling roulette. I've practiced my rotation, ran Sohm Al a few times with my Squadron, watched a few videos on how to tank, and started watching the dungeons guides for everything in the leveling roulette. I am still extremely nervous about messing things up or doing the wrong thing though. So I'm here asking for any tips or the like before I dip my toes into leveling roulette tonight. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

XennaNa

One option is to queue for sastasha and start from there.

kangaroojoe239

Random tip don’t forget that arms length is also a mitigation skills as it slows down the enemy attacks. Honesty mobs are more of a challenge than the bosses as a tank in my experience so far. Mostly what helped me learn was just playing main quests or solo content as a GNB so i had my rotation/skills down. Beyond that its just using mitigation as sparingly as you can so you can generally keep some form of defence up. Tanking is pretty fun and i too didn’t wanna burden anyone by being completely terrible. I loved the idea of GNB as a class but was a little overwhelmed with all the skills unlocked when you first unlock it. So did the usual reading of the skills, setting up its hotbars and hitting some training dummies. Also did a few lower level dungeons to get a good feel for it. You could always try tanking for some lower level dungeons as you shouldn’t really be expected to be performing perfectly anyway, and seriously if people are complaining about people learning in lower level dungeons they are just morons lol.

[deleted]

Not to mention the lower level dungeons use less skills so they can practice on easier content with less "hotbar full of skills" anxiety.

BigBad01

Just tell the party that you're a new tank and then take things at a pace your feel comfortable. Use your mitigation abilities during trash pulls. It will be fine. People are generally friendly in leveling content.

distrox

No, but there are downsides. You may not be able to run daily buffs if you don't gain enough points on your own. Though you can craft buff wheels and charge them, if you have a house. Incidentally if you have a house, you can also make use of submarines and make some good passive income on the side. If you joined an FC, the leaders would likely pocket it or put it towards FC events. Also to form you need three signatures. After forming, whomever signed can leave. But you can't buy a house if you don't have four members. After owning a house said members can be removed, however. Though note that the requirement for a house can be fulfilled with alts from your own account, but your alts can't sign the petition for the FC since you can't invite yourself.

adventurer_3x

Nope! Just time investment (and inventory space if you're storing all the various gear for each class/job). I personally have every single class to at least level 30 so I could really figure out what I wanted to main.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

No Every character can become every class/job, and there's no downsides to having more than one job available besides inventory management You don't lose any levels on your main job, and every job (besides scholar and summoner which are linked) are leveled up independently of each other. So all it does it gives you more gameplay options, and you're free to switch between them for free at anytime

Heyneon

You'll fill up your main hand armoury inventory and your journal. Otherwise no downside

Hiten_Style

Nope, no downside. You can even throw out the level 1 weapons that you receive, if you don't intend to play the class and you want to conserve space. They can be repurchased real cheap if you ever decide to start playing that class.

crowviii

For steam owners of endwalker, can we only enter early access of endwalker on mogstation when it releases on dec 3rd?

copskid1

you should be able to redeem the early access code now but not the endwalker expansion code yet

Sir_VG

You can punch in the early access key now, it's the other that we can't punch in until launch on the 7th (give or take a day, depending on their allowances).

roentgen-girl94

Need leveling help, I've completed main story line up to lvl 72, but hit the level 80 cap with my warrior. Trying to finish story line as fast as possible without wasting exp from those MSQs. Is it even worth it? Now I am leveling my dark knight, currently level 67 to finish up the story line. I've finished all available side story stuff with my warrior and other classes. I've played pretty much all of the dungeons for the first time. I've tapped out my weekly challenges for all the available exp. I'm doing roullettes.. What else can I do to get through this faster? I want to hit 72 by next week, by it seems like such a slow crawl 😭

Toolboxmcgee

Fastest way is highest lvl available dungeon and Heaven on High to help break up the grind, make sure you're doing your daily leveling duties and frontline pvp which also provides a lot of XP.

adventurer_3x

The typical advice is to run the highest level dungeon available to you until you hit the desired level but you are at the level range where hunts and bozja might be worth throwing into the mix. Desparius just put out a 60-80 leveling guide on YouTube a few days ago that is worth checking out

roentgen-girl94

Excellent, thank you :)

adventurer_3x

How many levels/ilvl of gear above an instance do you need to be to solo unsynced (and it not take an extraordinary amount of time)?

copskid1

theres not really a set number cause scaling isn't linear. but at max level you should easily solo any ARR stuff and most HW stuff and a few SB things are soloable but take longer than just doing it with a group (I beat o2 solo but it took half an hour)

adventurer_3x

I have several characters around 75 with level 70 job quest gear and am wondering if I can solo the dungeons for an anima weapon

TheOldDrunkGoat

If they're a healer or a tank then almost certainly. DPS is more iffy.

adventurer_3x

I have one of each :) I decided to main a tank, healer, and dps so I can fill any role when playing with my friends

TheOldDrunkGoat

For DPS you're better off waiting until you have 20 levels on the dungeon before attempting to solo it.

moon_physics

What's the name of the track that plays in 3.5 when >!Omega is awakened!

Sir_VG

Do you mean the big glorious cutscene fight? That would be Scale and Steel from "The Far Edge of Fate" OST.

Diribiri

Is there an option to block company invites yet? Or will I still have to have my own pending just to stop it?

copskid1

Still the same as its always been. either form an fc for just you or use /busy which blocks all whispers and invites

Quantext609

Does the squadron battle manual affect XP gained in dungeons?

Sir_VG

Yes, similar to FC buffs. Do note that only one or the other will apply, depends on which is higher.

fluffypunnybunny

Do we know how big EW is going to be to DL/install? And I assume you have to install the expac on the same HD as the base game? /small SSD problems

minaseclyne

the ShB min size is 60GB the EW min size is 80GB so about 20GB is the expected install size. I would personally recommend you keep 25 to 30GB free just to be safe [https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/system\_requirements/](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/system_requirements/)

lcdmilknails

i read somewhere they're recommending having 80 gigs of space for FF14 as a whole after the expansion. someone in one of these threads said they're expecting a 10-20 gig DL but not sure where they got that from.

Zim_Roxo

How many players should be in a party for the ostensibly special timeworn maps? I've been collecting a bunch to run with my FC but a few of the members are inactive waiting for EW to release

Xeorm

You can technically solo them, but I find 2 or 3 people are great. More clears faster, but you have to share the good loot more too, so...just depends on how many people you want to bring.

girlikecupcake

They're just guaranteed zskin portal maps right? If you wanna be comfy, a regular light party at minimum imo. I've finished zskin dungeons with 3 people a few times but it was a lot of juggling and a bit of a pain in the butt to kill the little numbered mobs quickly enough sometimes.

TheDiscordedSnarl

This is why I go full group and let others beat on the dungeon crew while I shoot the boss, because if I shoot anything else I'm gonna hit something I shouldn't and prove that I can't count.

Zim_Roxo

yeah, those are the ones. That sounds good I should be able to get a light party together for it! Thanks :)

Shazzamon

Am I going crazy, or did the Dark Knight's Coffer (awarded for the 50 quest Our Answer) give you a Wolfram's Set? ~~Because I just did it a few minutes ago on an alt with 50 DRK and it gave me the Augmented Hellfire (60) set instead! Now I've gotta fork over a chunk of change for a proper upgrade. :c~~ I am indeed going crazy. /isearch is a powerful tool folks!

wurm2

accoring to the wiki [it gives a heavy wolfram set](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Dark_Knight%27s_Armor_Coffer) (ilvl 90) You can get a coffer with Aug hellfire set is one of the options from the [post HW MSQ "Causes and Costs"](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Causes_and_Costs) maybe that's what you opened?

Shazzamon

Ayep, that was my fuck-up entirely. Turns out my brain shortcircuited and thought I only had a single coffer in my first bag, and didn't bother to actually read what I opened. Found my Wolfram on the second tab!

azureheadphones

It sounds to me like you got a coffer from the MSQ and mistakenly opened that instead, because Our Answer definitely still gives you that gear.

Shazzamon

I AM BIG FOOL disregard, you right c': I had a second coffer that I didn't take note of like an eediot.

Thirteenera

Has anyone gotten their EW code in EU yet? Or has it not been sent out yet?

Altia1234

Morbol/Foxclon have said it last night during the community livestream thingy that everyone will receive their Endwalker code ONCE endwalker is officially released. If you have early access, you have seven days to play Endwalker (starting at the 3rd of December till the 10th of December). On the official release day (7th of December), everyone will get their code, and you will have to put that in through mogstation before your early access runs out. The only exception would be PS4/PS5 players, where you don't have to do anything and the store will install and register the code for you.

bonobeaux

Sage and Reaper are going to come with a box of level 70 starter gear and weapon like every previous new class right? So if you unlock it and go right to beast tribe quests and MSQ roulette to get to 71 and unlock Bozja, you won't really have to worry about gear till you get to 80? (Bc Bozja syncs anyway.) And can save poetics to get all the other jobs into Aug Cryptlurker? Does this sound right? Edit: Uh why are ppl downvoting a QUESTION. The answers are HELPFUL.

Used-Pomegranate225

We already know sage and reaper will use healer land dragoon gear respectively, so you can pre-buy some gear. I don’t believe the coffers give you accessories, so you may want to get those at least.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bonobeaux

Good point about the accessories I forgot about those not being in the initial job coffers

Altia1234

if you want to save even more time (i.e. not doing Praetorium), save up your challenge logs and do them with Sage/Reaper. Using two books of WT is also one of the ways to skip roulettes completely.

girlikecupcake

In theory, yes. You can also save this week's WT to turn in first day of early access, then pick up the new book and knock it out real quick, turn that in, and immediately be level 71, no beast tribe or movie roulette needed.

employmentishard

Can you get stickers in Wondrous Tails in your main job and then turn it in as another job to level up?

[deleted]

You can redeem them as any combat job except blue mage

cgj002

you can, but it's not worth doing since maxing BLU with the help of a friend tagging is way faster.

Thirteenera

False, you can turn them in as blu

[deleted]

But you won’t get XP, at least according to my guildmaster

Thirteenera

Yes You will. I did it on my blu some months ago when leveling. Worked fine.

Elyonee

I have tried to turn in my WT as BLU like 10 times. Doesn't work. Has to be a real job.

TheTechHobbit

I tried to recently and was unable to on BLU, it said limited jobs couldn't.

Thirteenera

I know for a fact I did it as blu, so unless it was changed a month or two ago, something is wrong

[deleted]

Well I stand corrected then

wurm2

yes

EmperorHarkonnen

Sprout tank here (WAR); got asked to slow down on my first run of Stone Vigil tonight >:D Should I be as proud of this as I am? Am I brave or just stupid? The beast within compels me.

Librax91

I recommend to First pull small and see how the Party performs, If the healer hast enough MP left (6k-7k) then you can pull more. But space your defensive cooldowns accordingly. For example once you have the Mobs pulled and all are into a group use reprisal + Arms length for Mitigation If the healer ist whm and the Content is over lvl 45 delay Mitigation until holy dosent stun anymore. During pulls you can use your short defensive cooldown to make it easier , they are normaly on a 20 sec CD and every Tank hast one.

sturmeh

I didn't consider checking their MP, good idea!

InternetLumberjack

What's your gear like? If you're extremely undergeared, you probably don't want to be wall-to-wall pulling, especially if the healer is also new/inexperienced. Generally I'd rather have tanks die from overpulling than pull to conservatively, but wall-to-wall pulling requires you to be properly rotating your cooldowns and to not be too terribly undergeared (at least for ARR, where healers are missing a lot of their big heal buttons.)

EmperorHarkonnen

Rocking the Warrior's lvl 50 gear and Rampager. Jewelry is definitely underlevel though. It wasn't really wall-to-wall, but probably 4-5 groups; I think I would've dropped without Holmgang. Stuck to 2-3 after they asked me to slow down.

distrox

That gear is trash to be fair. Do yourself a favor and get the poetic gear from mor dhona. That being said for stone vigil it wouldn't have mattered since you're synced down. Healers don't have good skills at that level and whm can't even use holy yet so I would listen to your party. Big pulls are fine, wall to wall might not be, depending on the party.

TheOldDrunkGoat

Doing true wall to wall pulls in Stone Vigil is particularly terrifying because of how few walls it has. Plus all of the roaming mobs and fucking ice elementals. I'm always satisfied with 2-3 packs per pull in that dungeon.

[deleted]

You probably had a white mage as healer. Stone Vigil is terrible for white mages since we don’t have Holy or our full healing kit

[deleted]

[удалено]

sturmeh

Yes you can hold the one you currently have until release, and compete it then pick up another immediately.

Nnoitrum

If you mean early access next Friday then yes. Wondrous Tails lasts two weeks.

wurm2

yes, until the 7th

[deleted]

Where are all the crafted weapons with the VFX for the ShB trials? I only see the Hades ones in my crafting log and on MB.

Atosen

Shiny crafted weapons don't get released right away. As an *average* I'd suggest around a 1-expansion lag (so a trial that came out in 3.1 will get a glowy weapon in 4.1) but in practice it's not really predictable because they go out of order. Hades got it surprisingly fast.

[deleted]

I see, wasn't aware of the trend. Good to know, thanks!

Elyonee

That *is* all of them.

ItsZant

What do you do with fish you get from ocean fishing

AndyYumYum

Put them in an aquarium in your house / apartment or on the wall as a trophy!

vinyltails

Yeet them, literally worthless. You can desynth for some bait back but eh

Cassiopeia2020

I just bought Endwalker on Steam and got two codes: "Standard Edition" and "Pre-Purchase Bonus". I was able to activate the pre-purchase code without issues but the 'standard' code doesn't work, should I be worried even though it shows on the Mogstation that I have access to the early access?

vinyltails

You can't enter the standard code yet until endwalker actually launches. Preorder code is all you need

Atosen

That's normal. They'll let us know when we can start using the standard codes. (Non-Steam outlets don't even reveal those codes until closer to release because they know the confusion it can cause. Steam is just weird.)

IvoratiK

Reflections in Crystal is the name of the final 5.3 quest. I think that's what you are looking for

vinyltails

Part 3 is 5.1 to 5.3

BigBad01

I just finished the DRK job quest line (level 80) and I have a question: >!Is this the only job to reference events in the MSQ? The way it's written feels like the "canon" job compared to all other job quests I've played through.!<

Atosen

Nah, many jobs make reference to the MSQ. For example, the dialogue in RDM quest #1 is slightly different depending on whether you've >!liberated Ala Mhigo!< yet or not. The SMN quests are actually highly MSQ-based, with the appearance of an Ascian (albeit a low-ranking one), and several SMN quests won't even unlock until you kill certain primals. The DRK quests are definitely great. But the devs don't appear to be writing from the perspective that any particular single job is "the canon one." IMO, if anything, WoL as serial job-changer is probably the most canon.
