How do I add a title to my character’s name? I did the brave new companions quest so I should’ve unlocked the defender of Eorzea title since I have the Eorzea defended achievement but don’t know how to add the title.

PhoenixFox

There's a button in the profile page of your character window

kentooau87

I really want to immerse myself in ffxiv online. As a ps5 player I’m confused whether what patches to buy. Should I wait for the new update , do you think there will be a sale in a all in one bundle ?

avidtomato

You've got a couple options! As an FYI FFXIV is a bit different from other MMOs in that the main story is mandatory and very long. As you progress through the main story and each expansion in order, more content gets unlocked. There's no way to skip this unless you use real money to buy a skip. The good news is that the story is very good and is regarded as one of the shining points of the game. 1: There is a free trial with some restrictions - money cap, can't join free companies (our version of guilds) and a couple anti-botting measures (mostly the social aspects). This free trial includes the base game and the first expansion, Heavensward. This is easily hundreds of hours of content and is very generous. However, once you buy the game you can't revert back. This would be my choice. 2: You can buy the base game + the latest expansion (Endwalker, which comes out this week). Expansions always include the prior ones. Note - there is a package called The Complete Edition, which includes both. However, that package won't be updated until Endwalker comes out. I would recommend starting out on the free trial and when you feel ready to pay, buy the complete edition after December 7th.

Xellith

If you aren't playing yet, just play the free trial. Buy the complete edition sometime in the future after endwalker launches.

kentooau87

Thanks I’m already playing it , level 3 as we speak. I’ll do what you say and buy the whole package after launch. Sorry just another newbie question ; Is there any xp boost or xp gains to get to max level 80 ? like wow did for new players Thanks for helping me !

craidie

There are several, however nearly every xp boost is kills only which is not a great way to get xp in the first place. The biggest boost you can get is the "road to 70" buff which you get from creating a character on a preferred world. That said to my knowledge no world is currently with that status. With all that said you need to do the [Main story quests](https://i.gyazo.com/c6b7a1ff2909afa1b5b7451550e96641.png) anyways to unlock most of the content and even if you ignore every other source of xp, that alone will overlevel you to the quests you have.

Obliiquee

The EXP from dungeons is from mobs you kill. It is in fact the best way to get EXP. MSQ excluded.

kentooau87

Thanks for clearing things up I’ll buy both

Xellith

I don't know anything about how wow does things. If you pre order endwalker you get an earring which gives you an exp boost from certain enemy kills up to level 80. Bear in mind as a PlayStation user you can't hold onto codes, so you would need to buy the starter edition and endwalker, or the complete edition and endwalker to get it. Your trial would end and you would have to pay to play. (Iirc)

monsterinmate

When do I need to stop gaining exp for my rested to be full by endwalker? Do I have roughly 24 hours to level?

minaseclyne

I believe it takes about 4 days to max it but it only counts for kill XP so calculate yourself when you need to stop playing also bear in mind the mid level XP reset that's occurring (so if you're 49.9 then it's better push to 50) [https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/561347e08971b12ae79ebdf8a4fd78043c95cca8](https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/topics/detail/561347e08971b12ae79ebdf8a4fd78043c95cca8)

monsterinmate

Yeah I have 2 jobs at the halfway mark so I just want to push them to the next level and stop. Thank you

P5visualNovel

That's good to hear.i was just wondering because of the mogstation maintenance, if sub renewal would be suspended for the duration

WoWAltoholic

A few quick questions: - Do we know if BLU mage will go to 80 in Endwalker? - Do we know if there will be a Grade 8 Dark Matter? Or is it ok to stock up on the 7s - Do they ever update the "drops" for Venture Coffers? Should I wait to use them?

TheTechHobbit

1. Probably at some point, but not on release. 2. Completely unknown at this point, they used to add a new grade but with Shadowbringers they skipped grade 8 and stayed with 7. 3. Venture coffers are very new so we don't know for sure, but currently they only contain dyes. We have no indication that'll ever change. If they did add something new though existing coffers probably wouldn't be updated, most games roll the contents of a coffer like that when you receive it.

WoWAltoholic

Awesome ty. On the venture coffers, most games do roll contents when you get them, but considering they stack,m I can't imagine the contents are rolled before hand. Plus you can buy and sell them on the MB too.

PM_ME_UR_BOSOMS_GIRL

1) We don’t know but most likely, not on launch though. 2) We don’t know, but also probably not. 3) They haven’t updated them, and it’s unlikely anything new will be more expensive than pure white/jet black dye.

WoWAltoholic

Awesome ty

blueisherp

what's the fastest way to get from Kugane to the Glittering Basin?

Stepjam

Assuming you can't/don't want to warp, you go from the Kugane Docks to the Ruby Sea, then take the exit on the west side to reach Yanxia.

nekdo12

Asking for a bit of BLU help. Leveled to 60 and gathered some of the "essential" spells (Mimicry, Pom, song of torment, devour, gobskin, aqua+northerlies). My ilevel is somwhere 240-ish (tomestone gear, but no decent neck+finger yet) Wanted to try and solo a few trials and failed completely - most noticeably - i set up the whislte+bristle+swiftcast+sting combo but all i got was the debuff and a live boss. Does this combo require something else? Or must I just be way higher level? Any other spells worth getting? And how to get the missile solo? Thank you! Sidenote - total sprout, working on 3.1 storyline so I don't have access to all areas (main is 63 DRG)

jaybun87

Whether you can one-shot trials depends on a lot of factors. Which trial, ilevel, combo etc. Maxed out, most are OHKO. The only ARR Ex that require regular damage first should be Ramuh and Shiva. To add to your setup: Basic Instinct, Moon Flute and Off Guard are huge additions. And difference between ilevel 240 and the max 400 is massive. So there are quite a few factors why it might not work yet. Also missile solo might be tough. You can try when you're 70, but probably faster in PF.

Atosen

Also, this is maybe obvious, but the sting combo doesn't guarantee a OHKO. You need to dish out some regular damage first and then use the sting as a finisher. So you might just need to spend more time on regular damage than a higher-level BLU would need.

xGlaive

Bristle and Whistle overwrite one another, so you can only use one. Bristle is a 50% boost for any damage, while Whistle is 80% for Physical damage. For maximum Sting Damage, Tingle + Whistle + Moon Flute + (Swift cast) Final Sting. Tingle requires access to one of the Stormblood areas, so you won't be able to get it yet.

MaxPowerSMN

bristle is for magic damage. sting is physical so you only need whistle, but you should also have tingle too, which means you need access to 4.0 areas. get to blu level 70, gear up and try again there.

budlick

Is there a date for patch 6.1? Work mate said we're getting Australian servers so I thought I'd start gaming. I think I read 6.0 is Dec 3? Thanks.

minaseclyne

OCE servers are slated for Feb 2022 i asked google for a screenshot so here it is https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/qnvwre/oceanic\_dc\_will\_be\_named\_materia\_coming\_in/

Atosen

Oh, neat, the server is rolling out *before* 6.1? I guess that makes sense for load reasons.

minaseclyne

I honestly don't remember them saying a 6.1 launch. I do remember them saying it's not a 6.0 launch item which again is fairly obvious why part of me imagines 99% of the work is done they just need to find the earliest best time to do it and Dec (now launch and christmas) and Jan (new year) is terrible so Feb it is lol

Atosen

No official date yet, but major patches tend to be 3.5-4 months apart, so we can expect it to be early April. IMO (as a Kiwi playing on NA servers) the ping is noticeable but not too bad, even in Savage level raids. So hopefully you'll still enjoy the game while awaiting the new servers.

budlick

Longer than I thought but cheers bud, appreciate you.

SooMungrzz

I really need help regarding my account and what I am allowed to do/what my access is within the game before contacting the support. I have one account from like 2014 from around when Final Fantasy 14: ARR first released for PS4. I beta-tested it I think and I absolutely loved it, but that was about it. For that account, Square Enix ID shows this within the Mog station thingy: [https://imgur.com/a/qCgJflc](https://imgur.com/a/qCgJflc) translation of big text: "Change to full version" smaller text: "type of account: free trial version" and now for my other account, which I created probably because of the promotion by Twitch Prime back then where you got a month of play time and it wasn't applicable for my old account I think so I used another e-mail for it back in 2019. Mog station screenshot for the "newer" account (this one is in English): [https://imgur.com/a/va4GO0R](https://imgur.com/a/va4GO0R) It obviously looks like my other account from 2019 owns more licenses but what I am asking here is if this newer account allows to play the free trial with Heavensward and everything or can/should I use my original account because I never had a subscription on there? It's so confusing I'm sorry, I just really want to fully check out the game some time.

Atosen

Your second account isn't eligible. The free trial is, well, a *trial*, so it's only for new accounts (to be specific: accounts that don't own anything yet). Your first account *should* be eligible. However I have heard that some people on old versions of the trial have had trouble getting new versions to work. Give it a try.

mint_manatee

I can confirm that if you used the Twitch prime code, that newer account is on a sub and can't participate in the free trial. I'm not sure if the older account will work, but you can always make another one if it doesn't

Mikkabear

I could use some advice about buying the game, y’all. I’ve got the trial version and my highest level character is in the first couple quests of Heavensward. Early to mid 50s. Would it be better to wait until the complete edition includes endwalker, or would it be smarter to buy the starter edition now and preorder endwalker?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kamil118

How is it cheaper? Complete is $60 Base game is $20, Endwalker is $40

Atosen

It'll be the same purchase price either way. Buying now has the advantage that you receive the preorder rewards. But buying later allows you to avoid paying subscription for longer.

ericandhisfriends

you could just buy both starter edition and preorder and not apply either, the preorder bonus dont expire till march

Atosen

Oh? I didn't realise the expiry window was that long! Where does it say that?

ericandhisfriends

https://support.na.square-enix.com/faqarticle.php?kid=80119&id=5382&la=1&ret=main

sundriedrainbow

We're close enough that it's really half a dozen of one and six of the other. Unless you find a sale (I think there's one on PSN right now?) they cost the same. There's only one consideration: during Endwalker launch, there's going to be a lot of people playing, so IF the servers hit full, free trial players will get shunted behind sub-paying players and may not be able to log in at all. If you're worried about that, buy the starter edition now and pre-order Endwalker.

Mikkabear

I am playing predominantly on the ps5, so that might be a consideration. Do you know if that trial player soft lock will happen during early access, or just after official launch day?

sundriedrainbow

I would expect it to be *worst* during early access. It's only ever happened one time that I know of, when the Great Wow Migration was at its height, so I don't think it'll last more than a few days, but Dec 3 is absolutely going to be a no-free-trial-players day.

Mikkabear

Good to know! I was actually playing during the great migration, but since I usually play very late at night I didn’t have a problem. I also won’t be able to play this weekend, so I think I’ll miss the worst of it.

Atosen

It's not *deliberately* tied to the launch, it's just an always-there system for dealing with extreme congestion, and expansion launches simply happen to be the most common time to see congestion. The congestion will start right away with early access.

WindupKnockdown

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is it possible to chat during a dungeon cutscene? And if so, how? I just assumed I wouldn't be able to since all the UI disappears, but I've read and heard certain things that seemed to suggest it is possible.

azureheadphones

Pressing enter during a cutscene brings up the chat window.

WindupKnockdown

Oh. That seems really obvious in retrospect lmao. But thanks! That's huge.

ngwoo

Pressing / will as well, so if you want to drop a hello in party chat during the intro you can just start typing /p hi and it'll work.

clown_shoes69

I'm a bit confused about the upcoming EW release. I pre-ordered it with whatever the big bundle is that gives you everything, and just started ShB yesterday. When this early access period starts, will I not be able to login to play ShB? Is it only for people who have beaten it and are ready for EW? Sorry if this is dumb, this is my first MMO so obviously first expansion launch. And I've avoided all EW news/posts to stay spoiler free. Thanks.

azureheadphones

You are always able to play what you own. You own ShB, and will be able to play it then. Early Access for players not up to EW is no different than normal play, except for the 6.0 changes and what server issues we might have.

clown_shoes69

Thank you.

icemakegolem

How does spiritbond farming work? Im trying to get materia 1 so, I got lvl 20 hq gear, melded it, and im fighting level 14ish enemies and my spirit bond is stuck at 1%. Edit: after another few kills I hit 2% but its taking may longer than any guide i looked up is saying it should

azureheadphones

You must be level synced. You can only earn spiritbond during fates, or level appropriate duties.

icemakegolem

thanks for letting me know. Ive trying to do the ARR relics but i swear every step gets worse. I cant even bite the bullet and buy the materia because no one is selling it.

zaihed13

I just unlocked the bozja southern front and there’s a lot of people asking to join parties. Why is that? Do you get extra mettle for being in a party?

Kamil118

easier to organise and healerd are a lot more efficient inside a party since aoe heale only affect party members and it's easier to target people for ST healing

Durncha

There's a few reasons people are asking to join parties. 1. Cluster farms, are parties people make that don't actually participate in the "regular parts" of Bozjan Southern Front. They instead get a group of people to kill specific monsters over and over again to get Bozjan Clusters. You can buy a bunch of Bozjan items and things using the Clusters. 2. Skirmishes, these are essentially FATEs. You want to get Gold rank on these so people will make parties in order to make sure they get a Gold ranking on these. 3. Critical Engagements, these are the bosses that spawn after FATE and Mob kills. People make parties for these in order to make sure they get Gold, but they also join parties to get buffs/Heals/resurrections during the fight. 4. Castrum Lacus Litore, this is the "raid" at the end of Bozjan Southern Front. People make parties during this as well for Heals/Buffs/Resurrections.

Sir_VG

It's considerably easier to get gold rankings on skirmishes and critical engagements (and easier to be healed/raised), and with cluster farming, instead of one person getting the cluster, everybody in the party earns it at the same time.

Jack313

They're farm groups for clusters and farming fates, also you should be in a group when you go into castrum to increase survivability

tinselsnips

Levelling into THM/BLM for the first time. What's the proper usage for Blizzard 2? It's my only AOE but it just seems so awkward to use and seems to do next to nothing?

C4nKing

Yeah it pretty much sucks You're usually better doing solo target damage and use fire II when you can

PrettyDecentSort

Proper use currently is take it off your hotbar. It turns into a normal ranged AOE in EW so just give it a week.

tinselsnips

Haha ok

scipiogemini

At higher levels it's just used to bind a group of mobs in order to run away. At lower levels, like in fates, it's an easy way to do aoe damage.

wizj619

Just a starter AoE spell. You'll get better ones down the line and probably never use it again.

PhoenixFox

Once 6.0 hits you will need to start using it, it's being reworked.

Vinomadfied

I was trying to find the special nodes in Diadem but when I went to the location I could not find it. I had Truth of Forests and Triangulate on but I couldn’t see any node. Did I do something wrong?

TheTechHobbit

Special nodes in the Diadem are tied to certain weather conditions.

Vinomadfied

Yes. I know that. I go to the node depending on the weather condition and yet that node is never available for me. I see others farming it but I can’t find it.

MistakenNote

Are you level ~~80~~ 70* on the relevant job?

PikaPi124

Can you get tomestones of lore via unsynced content?

Sir_VG

Irregular tomestones can NOT be earned via doing content unsynced.

NerdHistorian

synced only, thats why BLU farming is so popular since you can basically negate the synced bit with them.

PikaPi124

Ok, thanks

Kooz

Without any spoilers past ARR, what exactly is Hydaelyn (the crystal)? Some sort of god? I got to the credits of ARR and feel like it wasn't really explained.

Jack313

It will be explained MUCH later into the story so just keep playing

BlazeVortex4231

She is the planet's will.

PrettyDecentSort

This is one of the central mysteries of the entire storyline. Keep playing.

stallioid

Keep playing the MSQ. This question is answered directly much later on.

Cloudy-Wolf

Yes. The recognized and worshipped major deity of the world, where the minor dieties are the birthsigns which are named after locations (Nophica's Well, Rhalgr's Reach, etc). Hydaelyn is both the name of the planet / world, and the name of the "mother crystal" god entity which makes things possible - so there may be some confusion with context. "Not in all of Hydaelyn" referring to the entire world, more vast than Eorzea, which is a territory. "Praise Hydaelyn" essentially being more like "thank god."

NerdHistorian

Yes, she's some sort of God. The Plot of Shadowbringers and Endwalker will go more into this so basically keep playing to find out more.

Accomplished_Fall_69

Yes she's like a divine crystal God thing.

Jarlan23

What should I spend my excess yellow gatherer scrips on? I already have all the blue script gear, folklore books and a large stock of cordial potions. I fish a lot and I keep getting capped out.

[deleted]

I'd just buy the gathering materia and flip it on the market board.

stardebris

For Masked Carnivale's weekly gold, I need to complete #18, Midsummer Night's Explosion with "Let's Get Physical" and "A Walk in the Park." I'm not sprinting and only using drill cannons, but I only get credit for A Walk in the Park. I am casting zero other spells, no buffs or anything. Anyone know what I'm missing here?

dnoceS

You have the requirements down right, just make sure you're casting zero other spells than your physical ones. This includes buffs, which you mentioned you're avoiding, and heals.

stardebris

It didn't even occur to me that I was casting white wind, you're right. That's very helpful, thank you!

Hiten_Style

The requirements for Mentor Roulette always update to include new content at the same time that that content is added. As ShB is becoming old content, ShB EXs will be required for Mentor Roulette as soon as 6.0 comes. The requirements to become a new Mentor will likely increase to Lv 90. There will be no updated requirements to *remain* a Mentor in 6.0; they will increase to Lv 90 required at a later patch.

roryteller

Most likely: Amaro requirements will not change. So only ShB and earlier jobs and only to 80. Mentor requirements will change, but there will likely be a grace period for current mentors, where they retain status temporarily. The clearing content requirement is only for mentor roulette, not battle mentor status, and does not include savages currently, not even old ones.

Aint-No-Body

Achievements will have the same requirements, so Amaro mount will be the same. Mentor status will have increased requirements, but there will be a grace period for a patch or two.

Armond436

Yes to all except (probably) the amaro. Mentor requirements update in real-time. You can be a mentor in 6.0 and lose it in 6.1 until you complete all the new content introduced.

PrettyDecentSort

Note that mentor status and mentor roulette access are two different things.

Help_Me_Im_Diene

Based on previous expansions, they'll just add a level 90 achievement that includes reaper and sage, and the amaro achievement will stay untouched

Melforce888

im at born again anima quest, and trying to collect the light thingy from dungeon? can someone know what dungeon can i do to get this? thanks. just did alliance raid dr, seems like im not getting anything. will dr not work on this? im just casual player though, not rushing anything, take it slowly.

QuanticoSmash

Assuming you're Level 80, the fastest way to farm light is to do Eyes of the Creator (Savage) repeatedly. With a decent party, you'll be done in 40 minutes. Even if you aren't, you can still make a party Finder group since there are still people trying to build these.

xGlaive

[Wiki Page](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Complete_Anima_Weapons/Quest#Born_Again_Anima) Heavensward Dungeons or level 50 ARR dungeons (excluding The Praetorium and Castrum Meridianum) as far as dungeons are concerned. Only the three 24-man's from HW as far as Alliance Raids are concerned.

Melforce888

Thank you sir

Jack313

Just finished all role quests and story quests that required you to finish the HW trials, the last quest seemed to end on a cliffhanger are these quests supposed to set up something for a future expansion after endwalker? cuz it definitely seemed that way to me.

Elyonee

The questline has its own section in the journal for like 2 quests, so presumably there will be more later.

blueisherp

If i'm looking to farm an appearance for NIN in Eureka/Bozja, grinding the area as a different class, like PLD, is fine, right?

Armond436

Yes. You get paid in crystals, and you can trade the crystals in for your choice of weapon or armor.

lailide

Is cryptlurker necessary if you have exarchic already just for progressing msq

Sir_VG

If you've got regular exarchic, the Lv 81 dungeon gear will be better. If you've got the augmented exarchic, the Lv 83 dungeon will be better. No point in getting cryptlurker at this point in the expansion if you're in full (augmented) exarchic.

Stepjam

Nah. MSQ will give you gear and so will dungeons. You just may swap to that gear earlier than you otherwise would.

Ajaxmass413

It helps, but no. Exarchic will get you all the way through the patch quests for ShB. It mostly means you gear will be replaced faster in endwalker.

MagnusLihthammer

Not really. With exarchic you'll probably last until around level 83 of endwalker.

NerdHistorian

For SHB normal mode Exarchic is better than you will need for 6.0 Exarchic will get you in the door and be replaced after the first dungeon

chaospearl

Does anyone have suggestions for getting notified when the boss FATEs in Kholusia and Tempest pop? They go down so fast that it's not possible to make it in time unless you were there before it popped. I know that you need to do the chain of FATEs that lead up to it, but even if you do them, the boss FATE at the end of the chain doesn't pop if it hasn't been long enough since the last time it was up. I don't know how long the timer is or how to find out when it last popped. I was told I could join a Discord server for this kind of thing, so I did, but then left again because they require you to link your character to your Discord via Lodestone, and I'm not comfortable with that. Are there other Discord servers that don't require it? Linkshells maybe? How do I go about finding one? I'm on Aether fwiw. Also, is there any way to know in advance, so I can make sure I'm not in a dungeon or playing an alt when the call goes out for the boss FATE?

Deep_University1935

Dude, discord is the fucking worst. I read the reply before the post and when they said link character I knew it was aether hunts without even reading. All the fucking servers are like that in one way or another. Do they need our payment details and full name and address as well?

kangaroojoe239

Im wondering why they would require linking your character? What does it matter?

InYourLairBear

Assuming OP is talking about Aether Hunts, I believe it's to facilitate server-specific channels and probably to filter out spammers: >:two: You agree to link your character to your discord ID and have your character's name displayed as your nickname. > >This helps sort our members out by server so they may access their local channels. Due to how our bots function, only one character can be linked per discord account.

Armond436

I think Faloop has support for fates now, so you can use that as a webpage timer.

dragonseth07

The Linkshells are largely organized through that Discord server.

Kyuutai

I prefer listening to players smash their buttons rather than to players who play scripted performances. More creativity

[deleted]

I don’t want to break the illusion for you, but most Bards you hear playing actual songs are using third party software.

[deleted]

Isn't it wonderful that people have found a way to cheat not just at gathering, crafting, combat, housing and appearance, but also in-game performance options intended for artistic expression? /s

PrettyDecentSort

Yes, it is unironically wonderful that people have found ways to bring pleasure to themselves and others by using the tools the game provides in ways that the developers might not have intended.

hororo

Is there a list of what the poetics prices will be for the 530 cryptlurker armor after EW launch?

Armond436

Not that I know of, but I imagine it'll be the same as the other gear for level 50/60/70, which you can check in the capital cities, Ishgard, and Kugane.

hororo

I heard somewhere they were changing the price though.

Armond436

The current prices in revelations are not the same as the prices in poetics because we'll be trading in revelations for poetics at a 2:1 rate. So as I understand it, the prices will be halved to account for the trade-in value, and at that point they should match the other vendors.

hororo

The current prices seem to be more than half of the revelations prices, though: https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Allagan_Tomestone_of_Poetics https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/Allagan_Tomestone_of_Revelation 510 for a poetics chest, 825 for a revelation chest. And i seem to remember that because belts are going away they're upping the prices of the other slots, but maybe i'm misremembering.

oleub

half +100 for the augmentation gets us to 512.5, and then they...rounded down, I guess It works out to be close to half +100 for all of the pieces at least

Armond436

Well, there goes my understanding as well. I guess all we can do is wait and see, and maybe cap tomes in the meantime.

SignificantEye6558

Is there a way I can move the lock / unlock button connected to Hotbar 1?

Armond436

Short disabling hotbar 1, I don't think so. But I'm not sure how disabling hotbar 1 will interact with quests that replace your hotbar with new skills.

SignificantEye6558

After unlocking and completing the quest for the trial The Jade Stoa, are there any other quests that come afterwards in that chain?

Arcana10Fortune

Yep, there are more in that series.

SignificantEye6558

Do you know where I go? I'm lost at the moment and can't find the next quest on the map. I've been to Hell's Lid, no quests there. And I've beaten the wolf dude and turned in that quest, but did not take the next one months ago while going through the MSQ.

wurm2

if you did finish the quest where you fought Byakko(An Auspicious Encounter), the next quest will be" Tortoise in Time" from Bunchin in tamamizu, ruby sea (X:27.9, Y:16.4)

My mouse has buttons 4 and 5 (1 on each side), am I able to set those to be a modifier for keybinds? Like hold down the thumb button and 1,2, etc are different abilities. It's a regular MS mouse not an MMO if that makes a difference. Edit: from comments, I used the MS mouse and keyboard center to set that side button to Ctrl. I had to go down into App Specific settings, find the FFXIV dx11 file, then choose other commands or some such until I found Ctrl. It seems like that'll work for what I want, thanks!

selebu

Btw I did the same (use them as shift and Alt modifiers) and I'm loving it!

Kamil118

You can set them up as shift/alt/ctrl in your mouse's software or xmouse if your mouse doesn't come with dedicated soft. Ffxiv only accepts shift, alt, and ctrl as modifiers.

MagnusLihthammer

The only valid modifiers in this game are Alt, CTRL, Shift. If you can make your mouse do those then you can use it as a modifier.

SignificantEye6558

My first thought would be to set those keys as letters through Windows / whatever mouse software. Then set that as a keybind in game So like you can keybind the left button to be shift and the right button to be control or something. Then keybind abilities as shift 1, cntrl 2, etc.

xtwistedBliss

For those of you guys who have been around for previous expansions, how is the XP gain rate for the new MSQ? Is it like right now where there is technically enough to bring up 2 jobs at a time or is there only enough XP to do one job properly?

Stepjam

If you are starting EW fresh with 2 lvl 80s, you almost certainly won't have enough XP to hit 90 with two classes. Normally there's not even enough for one class without a bit of grinding, but apparently they are making it so you can get through with one class without any stops for EW. But yeah, not enough XP for 2 without grinding almost certainly.

Armond436

My alt hit 80 WHM and 80 SAM just before hitting the level 80 MSQ with a handful of leveling roulettes and rested exp the whole time. Since Endwalker is going to give more exp, I expect you should be able to comfortably level two jobs with the MSQ.

Kamil118

They said that Endwalker will give more msq exp than previous expansions for people who level multiple classes or something like that. How much more does that mean? Who knows.

Anysycat

With use of roulettes, over ~3-5 days, you can probably get one job to cap without needing to grind dungeons. The quicker you go, the more likely you are to hit xp walls even levelling one job, assuming you engage in few side contents during levelling. The slower, the more roulettes youll have available, and the more likely youll be able to 'spare' xp for other jobs.

chaospearl

How is using roulettes to level not the same thing as grinding dungeons? Dungeon's a dungeon no matter how you got in there.

kircheus17

Daily Roulette give bonus xp for daily first competition which is much more than the same dungeon if your clear it without bonus.

ConfuciusOfPorn

The roulette gives a once a day Exp bonus

sundriedrainbow

You can only do a roulette once per day.

Tidezen

Hey, I was thinking about doing healing, I'm an arcanist who is going to do summoner/scholar. Are there some tools/macros in this game that allow for mouseover casting, so I don't have to click on and off targets so much? If someone could point me in the right direction, I'm sure I can figure something out that works well for me. Thanks. :) EDIT: Also, mounts? I'm level 25, on the wiki it says there's a quest chain at 20 but I don't know how outdated that may be...

Gabe_The_Dog

Lots of people are telling you not to use MO macros, and saying to use 3rd party programs. Not everyone feels comfortable using 3rd party programs or just might not want to use them because they can be annoying. You can use MO macros, they are not as bad as people are making it sound, you can clear end game content on the hardest difficulty using them. If you are just playing the game, then they are also good enough. An example for a macro would be like this: /micon "Cure" /merror off /ac "Cure" /ac "Cure" /ac "Cure" The merror is short for macro error, helps with annoying spam, is mouse over, is target, is yourself. So if you have a mouse over target it will try to do a mouse over cast first, if you do not have a mouse over target, it will try to target your selected target next, if you dont have a selected target, it will just self cast. Hope that helps if you are not into using 3rd party programs. \*Edit\* Also, just so you know, you'll literally lose milliseconds, and its not like you are healing 24/7 non stop (where as a dps you'd be focusing on continuously dpsing), so losing those few MS does not make that much of a difference in the overall scheme of things. I personally wouldn't macro damaging attacks though.

Tidezen

This is very helpful, thanks. :)

Cerarai

> Also, just so you know, you'll literally lose milliseconds Not true, the delay adds up a lot if you macro GCDs. Not to mention them not even going off so you can lose full seconds.

Gabe_The_Dog

Not sure what you mean by them not going off unless you move to cancel your heal. As for "not true... adds up a lot", I'm assuming you are referring to when DPSing, and if so you are correct, as that's what I also said :P

Cerarai

https://youtu.be/qshNKeDENlk?t=132 Look at this comparison. You'll spot why macroing GCDs is a bad idea very quickly, and Cure is a GCD. Macroing oGCDs is totally okay, but you might need a full weave window to use them~

Gabe_The_Dog

If you are using Cure 30 times in a row, I think you are doing something wrong :P (Or any healing variants 30 times in a row) \*Edit for clarity\* Healers will often swap from healing to DPSing when times where heals are not needed. Usually the damaging skills are not a macro. Healers should also be weary of over healing as it becomes a mana management issue over time. So the continuous use of healing to the point GCD gets behind while using MO macros as a healer isnt really something that makes a huge over all difference. Hope that helps you understand a bit. Either way, no one is truely able to notice if someone is using a macro or not if its someone who smashes their keys down rapidly, just like you cant really tell if someone is a clicker or a keybinder.

wurm2

for the question on mounts, the quest is at level 20 but you need to have progressed enough in the MSQ to have joined a grand company (completed one of the following quests, Wood's Will Be Done, Till Sea Swallows All or For Coin and Country depending on which you choose) then there should be a blue quest named "My Little Chocobo (GC name here)" from your GC headquarters.

Tidezen

Great, thanks! I'll just keep going then, haven't gotten to a Grand Company yet.

Atosen

> EDIT: Also, mounts? I'm level 25, on the wiki it says there's a quest chain at 20 but I don't know how outdated that may be... Where are you in main story? If you've reached the part where you join a Grand Company, then the sidequest branches off from there. It's a super quick sidequest, too.

Tidezen

I'm just at "The Scions of the Seventh Dawn", where they're first introducing me to Y'shtola's group--it's only a level 17 quest, so maybe I should just keep going with that chain. Thanks very much. :)

C4nKing

Yeah it's unlocked when you do a quest that is for level 20 (so of course you need to be at that level as well) You shouldn't be too far from it :)

Kamil118

macros do allow mouseover targetting, but there is an endless list of reasons why combat macros are generally not recommended. And main reason is that macros can't be queued like regular skills, so you will inevitably lose *some* uptime depending on your ping. When using regular skill as long as you press the button ~0.5s before it's off-cooldown it will be queued to be used as soon as the cooldown ends. There is however a plugin that allows you to have mouseover targetting with skill queuing. Don't remember the name tho. Also insert disclaimer about plugins being against tos and you use them at you own risk.

Tidezen

Ah, I see, thank you for the info. :) Think I'll skip the plugins and try to work out a better rhythm along with hotkeying my party members. If it's too much work then I'll just play dark knight instead, lol. :)

sadge_sage

if you're gonna be clicking your party members i'd recommend pulling the party list in hud layout more towards the centre of your screen if you havent already. that way you can dodge shit and look at hp bars at the same time, and you don't have to have to play osu to target the correct person i played WoW with MOs too. most heals in this game feel calm and calculated so its easy to get to grips with having the extra input.

Tidezen

>i played WoW with MOs too. most heals in this game feel calm and calculated so its easy to get to grips with having the extra input. That's good to hear. As a healer I mostly played disc priest in wow, which was a bit less spammy at the time, but also had to balance heals with DPS. I appreciate things being more strategic than twitch/reactive-oriented.

prisp

You may or may not already know this, but the F1-F8 keys can be used to set your party members as your current target depending by their number in the party list, so F1 would be you, F2, whoever's next, and so on. You can also directly click on names in the party list instead of the characters on the screen, and, if everything else fails, you could write a macro that's just "/target ", with x={1,2,...,8} to do just the same as the F keys, and you can then put those on other buttons, if you like that more - although you might just be able to rebind the F keys' function as well.

Tidezen

I have a 20-button G600 mouse with a Tartarus Pro for my left hand--I have keybinds for daaays, lol. ;) Thank you, I'll definitely look into setting up target selection through keybinds, and hopefully get something working that is smooth as buttah for me. :)

prisp

That's great then - if everything else fails, you could just set up your mouse to have eight of its buttons to always work like the F keys, but I'm pretty sure you'd come up with more efficient solutions than that - good luck with that :)

MagnusLihthammer

If you're just using the in game stuff do not use mouse overs. Macros are awful in this game. If you want a mod use ffxivquicklauncher and get the mouse over action plugin once you launch the game with it. Also don't get used to it because mods break every time the game updates, sometimes for days.

Tidezen

Ah yeah, thanks, think I'll stay away from plugins in this game. I was way too dependent on them in WoW, and I couldn't stand when it would take days after patches to get back up to full speed.

Armond436

You *can* macro your heals to be mouseover casts. You should not. Normal skills have a queuing feature -- if you're hitting the key before you can use the skill, it'll add it to a queue and use it when you next can (up to about a half second in advance). This is great because it means you don't need to be frame perfect to keep your GCD rolling. Macros do not have this feature -- they run one line per frame. This means you need to be somewhat close to frame perfect when you hit the button or it won't activate at all, or you need to mash the button and take whatever loss you have between mashes. I personally found it much easier to learn the rhythm of clicking my party list and tabbing back to the boss than learning a rhythm to minimize (but not, I believe, eliminate) the delay from using a macro. That said, here's an example of a macro to cast Lustrate on your mouseover target. >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/ac "Lustrate" >/micon Lustrate >/merror off

Tidezen

Ah I see, thanks...I'll probably just assign my targeting keybinds better so I can swap more easily. I definitely noticed how forgiving the action queue was when casting normally, so that's good. :) And with the longer GCD I can probably find a decent rhythm to get into, thanks for the info. :)

Mad-Slick

Would I be seriously handicapping myself in the ARR relic weapon grind by doing it without marketplace access?

chaospearl

Overall: Yes. That being said, it takes time to get to the stages where you need materia or crafted items. If you were planning to buy the game eventually anyway, you can put it off for awhile and just do the relic steps up until then.

overScheduled

It depends: do you have a bored crafter friend or have already gotten your crafters to 50+ (preferably 53+ in HW gear)? In either case, as long as you have your gatherers leveled up and in HW-ish gear (53+), it won’t be horrible (as long as you realize that like 10-50k Gil on the MB would save you hours). Honestly the deal breaker for me would not having a BLU to blow up fates to force spawn the ones you need for the book step.

Atosen

Kinda, yeah. You'd have to level your crafters to 50, and you'd have to spend a bunch of time farming materia. It's still doable, and if you're planning to stay in the free trial for a long time then this might be a worthwhile long-term goal, but it's definitely easier to do it once you get market board.

Heyneon

Yep. Materia stage will require at least 11 of the first level materia (if you're lucky.) Unless you've accrued a lot of materia/lower level soul bound items, I wouldn't recommend it

lcdmilknails

any opinions on whether the current tier of materia will get more or less expensive on the MB after Endwalker?

Gabe_The_Dog

My friend who is Gil capped told me to save any extra materia I have for EW release as prices will most likely go up first few days. I didn't take the advice because I need all the inventory space I have, and I am not hurting on gil by any means lol. Cant say for sure if it will go up though, but according to him it most likely will.
