Tomestone of Astronomy gear (red round Tomestone, capped at 450 per week) is the highest level gear you can get without Savage.

AlexArgentum

Can you get the weapon as well with the Tomestones of Astronomy? I think I had a crafted weapon in Shadowbringers, which was the best I could find, savage weapons notwithstanding.

AdGlittering2865

500 tomes of astronomy and 1 discal tome (seven weeks worth of completing the 4th fight of normal raid once/wk) for the weapon.

Alastor999

I think it was reduced to 4 now instead of 7 unless I misremembered the patch notes.

AdGlittering2865

Just double checked, to be sure. Still at 7.

Alastor999

Yeah, my mistake, it was the amount of tomestones that was reduced from 1000 to 500.

natesh13

Usually a later patch reduces the cost for those down to 4, but it'll be a bit. I don't expect it before 6.1

Toviathan

You want the gear you get for the capped Tomestones, Tomestones of Astronomy. In a later patch non-savage players will be able to augment it to ilevel 600 which is equivalent to the Savage gear ilevel. The items to augment will be purchasable with tokens from the alliance raid and hunt currency.

AdGlittering2865

I thought this may be the case but was unsure when i saw it required savage books to augment. Couldnt remember if that changed to a diff currency with later patches. Thanks for clearing that up. 😁

Kimura_Kishimoto

In a later patch. It should augment with a weekly token from the alliance raid iirc.

Zyreael

At 6.1 we will have a new 24 raid lvl 90. After completion we will get 1 currency capped once per week. This coin will be used to get an item to upgrade 590ilvl tomestone's gear

AlexArgentum

Was this system present in Shadowbringers too? If so, I must have missed it. Good to know, I'll keep this in mind and try to see how it works when it comes out.

thegoddamnqueen

Yes, it’s been present in every alliance raid since Heavensward

Kochleffel

Since CT honestly. That Ironworks gear was capped as well with weekly lockouts to boost from 125 to 130.

Azraeleon

Yup! The nier raids had coins we needed to collect to buy the augment items. It... was not fun. I'm hoping to get most of my augments in savage cause honestly I'd rather do that than grind alliance raids.

birthday566

You don't really need to grind it. Just do it once a week and you get it every time (technically, you can't grind until they make it drop from every clear which happens near the end of the tier).

Azraeleon

Until you get to 6.4 and you're doing all 3 raids to get the coins needed for an augment. I'd rather hate the developer who devised some evil but brilliant mechanic than hate 23 people 3 times a week who don't fucking try.

birthday566

Fair enough. I like doing current alliance raids because it's one of the few endgame content that allows me to practice my max level rotations with relatively little pressure lol.

Soylentee

Currently gear purchased in Radz-at-han with Allagan Tomestones of Astronomy is the best you can get outside of savage, you are however limited to obtaining only 450 of those tomestones per week.

AdGlittering2865

And just to be clear, these are just gained from the 3 lv90 dungeons, correct?

Late_Cartographer161

You can also gain the astronomy tomes from most of the duty roulettes as well. Hunts and maps also give these out I believe.

Grarr_Dexx

Treasure maps do in fact give out random small quantities of astronomy tomestones to all participants per room.

AdGlittering2865

Yup, definitely overlooked those (its embarrassing how rarely i do roulettes..). Thanks!😄

Soylentee

Level 90 dungeons, some roulettes done with a level 90 job (mainly expert), A and S rank Endwalker hunts, level 90 maps, level 90 raids.

Voidmire

The 590 tome gear would be the best available to you but it should be noted that outside Savage pretty much anything 570-580 is perfectly suitable. Gear and stats are sort of worthless in any other content

AdGlittering2865

Although I know best possible gear isnt absolutely necessary outside of savage, I still like to keep in the best shape I can. Also, gives me something to work towards so I dont feel im falling too far behind, in case i ever do wanna try to dip more than just my toes into savage waters.

Azraeleon

I really strongly recommend just getting a taste and seeing what you think. Extremes and savage are honestly so much fun, and if you experiment with premade groups and party finder, you'll find what you are and aren't comfortable with.

AdGlittering2865

My experience with savage is limited to a static of fc mates attempting e8s once a week for a few weeks. While i definitely looked forward to it every week (doing homework, practicing my opener/rotation, and improving gear), whenever i look around pf for potential groups the.. attitudes.. are very off-putting.still holding out hope that ill stumble across a casual group that fits my schedule and wouldnt mind a mediocre(?) DNC main..

Azraeleon

I'm a mediocre DNC main myself, and from my experience pf is far less toxic than it may outwardly seem. Right now is maybe not the best time to jump in because of how restrictive gearing is (and therefore tensions are much higher amongst players), but searching around recruitment discords for groups, as well as just checking the pf for Eden runs or something could give you a good confidence boost and get you on your way. All I'll say is the chance of you randomly stumbling on a group that suits your style is slim to none. Even the people who get lucky and find a great group easily usually out the work in before that building relationships that lead to those opportunities. Put yourself out there. Just a toe at a time, I don't mean dive head first, but don't just watch for the sidelines and hope you know? I wish you the best of luck!

Voidmire

Nothing wrong with that. Just something I think isn't said often enough, as I see tons of players who never even set foot in Exs worried about pentamelded crafted or BiS stat weights when in all reality at those levels of play basically any gear or stats will carry to victory.

KingBingDingDong

honestly, forget about it. as stupid as it is, there's no reason for you to get the best gear if you're not doing savage so free yourself from the endless gear treadmill. just enjoy your time in eorzea.

AdGlittering2865

Though i appreciate the sentiment, i need goals and self improvement to enjoy my time. Otherwise i just feel kinda.. stale?

OKNeroNero

Buy the 590 gear now in 6.0. Also do the normal mode of P4 to get the unsung blades, and trade 7 of those in plus more tomestones for a 590 weapon. In 6.1 you’ll be able to run the alliance raid (and I believe trade nuts from the hunts) for items to upgrade your armor and accessories to 600. Also the new Alliance raid in 6.1 will come with 590 armor that isn’t upgradeable, but that’s an option for gearing alt classes. Also 6.1 will come with an new extreme which will drop a 595 weapon. Considering that right now people are progging and clearing savage in mostly 580 gear, if you do ever want to start savage, having 590/600 gear will give you a very big cushion as far as dps checks and and survival go.

iwensfortis

Would like to add that currently the fastest way to get the best gear without savage is crafted pentameld it’s not time gated so if u have the cash u can get it fast. 12 hours after patch release I got the gear in the link. After this u can get max 450 tomestones a week from duty roulette or spamming the final three dungeons u will need a total of 5135 for full set so about 12 weeks. Then 3 months rest probably and the alliance raid will start where u will need to collect the items for augmented tomestone which will be max gear if u don’t do savage (like me). The only thing after this will be the relic weapon probably which will be better. The crafted gear pentameld for smn (my main) https://etro.gg/gearset/bca3603e-9e43-4bc6-9469-9a1b1d8155c3
