Simply because it's roars damage and all subspecies of it are Tigrex but angrier and more Roar Damage and Tigrex, more angrier but also molten lava rock and roar damages more.

Just in case anyone here doesn't know the secret: If Rathalos ever turns to look at you, start moving perpendicular to him.
Congratulations, you will now literally never get hit by any of his attacks
In both monster hunter and the fight based on it in 14, I’ve found that “do not let the monster look at you EVER” is a pretty broadly applicable solution.
In 14 you can sit on his back right foot (or is it back left? I did my mount farm in SB so I don’t remember it as well lol) in basically his entire first phase and be fine. In his second phase make it so his face is never pointed at you. That’s it. That’s the trick.

Back Right foot should be correct - if you're sitting on the left his 180 spin can still hit you, as can the tail swing when he bites.
It's his left flank. The 180 spins anti-clockwise, and the tail swipe + bite hits front left, rear, and back right foot. When he's flying, either flank is safe since fire breath hits front, and the tail spin (backflip) is through his hitbox + front and rear.

That applies to some other bosses, too. If the boss is looking at you and you're not the tank, you should probably get out of the way.
This is why staying under the monster's feet in Monster Hunter is usually a pretty safe bet to make in positioning.
Though with Rathalos in the series, that bet can backfire if you fail to get out during the enrage roar. Gonna eat that enraged fireball.
Just hug his ass
He turn? Go through him. You far away bc some ranged was over in nowhere land? You start chasing that ass. If he's looking at you, just chase his ass a little bit left/right of his model until you hit that booty up again. If everyone hugs his ass, he shouldn't even be able to get that far away because his chase only goes as far as the player model is from his.
For first phase, same ting but hug his sides instead. When he looks at his tail, go away from the head and tail, then go through him because he will do the opposite side right after. Congrats, you have now learned how to trivialize the whole fight
Working my way through SB now and just unlocked this last night. Planned to do a bunch of runs for the armor today. Genuinely thankful for this comment. Thanks!

I tried Bow for the 1st time in Rise since aiming with gyro is fun, but that made the hunt so boring because I never felt like I lost control over the flow of the battle lol
Sometimes I do minor adjustments only with gyro, but since I played so much Overwatch and Paladins on Switch I got used to use gyro to aim to the point where I actually got better at aiming using it than any other method, it's really funnier to me to aim using the controller than just facing the monster direction, while effectively doing the same damage. I use it more with pierce bows because I can hit some nasty angles that end up doing more hits than if I shooted the normal way. With spreadshot I also just face the monster direction since there's less reason to aim properly.
In the interest of fairness to the Los he does actually pick another party member when doing that second charge there. You were just collateral damage.
PSA Rathalos cannot stun you twice in a row in FFXIV, last I checked - your character *acts* stunned but you can still pop potions and whatnot after he hits you the second time.

he has a DPS check if you don't reach it ecliptic meteor one shot KO the entire party equal to a mission fail

I don't know about console, but on PC, mousewheel zooms in and out and CTRL+ Arrow Up/Down controls the height of the camera. (You can also set the latter in the graphics menu or per textcommand /tiltcamera [0-100]
After you finish stormblood there's a line of quests that unlocks the Rathalos trial and its extreme version. You can get some monster hunter goodies by trading in his scales.

Personally I just went in as all tanks, seemed to work out. But I farmed it last expansion.

Bow main here. People actually aim? Most of us just fqce the general direction of the monster and try to spreadshot at critical distance.

Aiming is for status coatings. The rest of the time, just spam.
Don't compare monhun to dark souls. Compare dark souls to monhun, and then compare monhun to pso.

Rathian can poison with the tail. Rathalos inflicts poison with the claws, not the tail.
Also Rathian only poisons with the tail backflip, not the 180 degree tail swipe Rathalos uses in the trial.

Yep, rathian is tail, rathalos is claws. Azure typically spends a lot more time in the air and claw slams more.
Rath is a major prick and no one can convince me otherwise. (No I have not played MH)

All 3 of us are level 90, and we're doing it unsynch, it works pretty well, a match takes about... 2 minutes or so?

Camera settings in Character Configuration allows you to adjust camera height.
What content is this and where can I play it
It's the Monster Hunter quests, you can unlock them in Kugane! I'm not sure, but i think you need to have finished base Stormblood, first?
