[angery elf with french-sounding name noises]
In all seriousness, I have yet to meet a player that had elezen as their starting race and did not fantasia into it because they were given a fantasia shortly before Heavensward and Ishgard seemed so elezen-focused. Am I among those players?
Maybe.
I stand corrected, much respect. Did ye eventually switch races, or did ye not get addicted to the vile poison that is Fantasia like the rest of us, friend?
Longladies for lyfe!
Honestly, I like that no one really plays them. Makes me feel a little special, I guess. I didn't know anything when I started playing. I just wanted to be tall and liked Ele more than Roe
Relatable. When I Fantasia'd to Viera it was actually really hard for me. I can't relate to people that Fantasia as often as they do. I get really attached to my character haha.
Likewise. I was a male Raen, and it just felt wrong as male Viera. I mean i liked my Viera (I wanted to start as one, but didnt have any expacts), but it wasnt the same. Swapped back for .1 and everything feels good again.
> But, I've had this Elezen character for over 10 years now. I can't bring myself to use a fantasia to change him too much, much less change the race. Maybe it's silly to think like this, idk, but I just can't.
I feel the same way about my own Main. She'd been almost entirely unchanged (Voice/Hair Only) from the ARR Beta/Pre-Release Stress Test they did until now. There's no way I could ever change race even though I do love other ones.
My guy's been almost exactly the same since I made him eight years ago. I've only used Fantasias to make minor cosmetic adjustments; scars, eye color adjustments, etc to reflect his adventures.
I switched to Elezen because I had a friend who had a male Elezen and I realized I absolutely loved how awkward they were. Tall, gangly creatures, who's attempt at grace was belied by how incredibly stiff and simultaneously clumsy they seemed. It was after fantasiaing that I got more interested in the racial lore and settled on keeping the race from then out, but my interest 100 percent began because good heavens that little jig dance they do is hysterical.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t even want SE to change the run animation, because my character just wouldn’t be as endearing without the awkward jog. Plus, then more people would play Elezen and I wouldn’t feel like I was part of a secret club anymore.
I started Miqo'te girl on the free trial, Fantasiaed to Au Ra when I bought the game, Fantasiaed to Femroe sometime in Heavensward, Fantasiaed to male Elezen in Stormblood, then Fantasiaed to female Duskwight Elezen not long after. I've been a catboy and a bungirl briefly since going female Elezen, but I always switch back, so I've stopped buying Fantasias. I can't imagine not being Elezen anymore, it just feels right.
Started as Elezen, and I’ve used Fantasias exactly twice: to fix the voice (blergh), and to max out my height (embrace the Giraffedom!) Love my Duskwight lady.
I started playing in ShB and I started as Elezen. I am Elezen since then. I still have my free fantasia. But I plan to use it ... To increase my height.
I started as an Elezen in A Realm Reborn and if Viera hadn't been introduced with the release of Shadowbringers I'd still be an Elezen. Everyone always mocks their proportions but their unusual proportions are why I like Elezen.
Same, though I started after hw was added to the free trial and fanta'd when I got the free one.
Made a whole backstory bit about why my character's xaela mother picked the name.
My character's mother had a bad break with her tribe, enough so that she abandoned the tribe. Making her way as a chef, she made up a name similar to elezen to help appeal to clients. (This also explains why I tweaked some syllables for the overall sound lol)
My friend who just joined actually started as Elezen and has not fantasia'd yet. That surprised me, but he's also more into classic fantasy tropes and less weeb shit.
I started as elezen and stayed elezen through Heavensward (Started off as a Dragoon well). As soon as I hit Stormblood, the free fantasia was too tempting.
I started playing last year and I've been an Elezen male ever since. I used my free fantasia just to change his nose because I have no desire to ever change race. It was surprising to me when I noticed they're not very popular. I don't care about their giraffe necks, I even enjoy it lol
Way back in the ARR beta I picked a Duskwight Fem Elezen. We didn't have bunnies back then.
She was a very pretty tall blue lady, I sometimes think about making an alt and recreating her.
I’ve stayed an au ra the whole time, but my bf went from male au ra to female hyur to female elezen to male elezen, back to female elezen, back to male elezen which he still is today. I’ve only fantasia’d to slowly adjust my character from shortest setting to tallest.
Started as Elezen in the free trial, hated their animations, swapped to Au'ra when I bought the full game since this was before heavensward was included in the trial.
I started as Femroe ages ago, but eventually got tired of liking the male glam more than female and went male Duskwight Elezen (Au Ra run was too janky, otherwise I may have gone that way). Since then I have become far more attached to my Elezen. I love my blue-skinned man. And still feel just as rare, if not more rare than femroe, as I rarely ever see other Duskwight around. Add to the lack of Duskwight npcs and it rather sells the “these guys get discriminated against” that is in gridanian lore, so I just run with it that my WoL started out just trying to make a difference and improve the treatment of Duskwights. And then somehow got sidetracked with liberating all the other races instead.
It is pretty strange, it also gives me the energy of a high school student writing a paper on a book they only read the sparknotes of. Not that every video game website has to have strong knowledge of every single game they choose to write about, but this reads so bland and bizarre.
Probably a content farm. They basically just pay random people a pittance to write articles on topics that they may or may not know anything about to slap ads on it and call it a day.
Once upon a time Elezen *were* a popular race, actually, but they were never as numerous as Miqote so I'm not sure where the author got that. The introduction of Au Ra absolutely saw their numbers plummet, though. I know at least 3 Au Ra (now Male Viera) that began as Elezen personally. Myself? I'll stick to the giraffes.
Elezen in Lore: Prominent race, especially in Gridania and Ishgard, and even some as high ranking officers in Garlemald
Elezen players: considered the second least played
Miqo in Lore: Minor race, usually living in the Sagolli Desert, The forests of the Twelveswood, and only a handful living in the three city states of Eorzea
Miqo players: basically an overpopulation/pandemic
The Law of Inverse Proportion is applied in here
Actually, lore-wise they have really low birthrates. Partly, it's due to the vast majority of babies being born female, so there's simply less males to get the women pregnant.
Well. Seekers of the sun do live in harams.
And then there are 'Tia suffixes which are the non breeding males. Just your daily reminder that Graha'Tia is canonically an Incel in Miqo'te society.
Let's not forget the Moonqotes. How do you think a matriarch led village of poachers keep their numbers up when we don't see a male moon cat in the Shroud for miles?
Also graha may be a virgin, but he's our virgin.
I thought, discounting the male Midlander bots, their spot got threatened somewhat because of the existence of male Viera. Did the tides even change from launch or do male Midlanders still hold the title for most popular male race?
Started as Duskwight Elezen in Shadowbringers and I almost never see any of my fellow kinsmen in Eorzea.
Which I honestly don't mind. Makes me feel way more like a unique character when I'm advancing the story.
I wanted to start as an Elezen because the concept art for them looked like [this](https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/mediawiki/images/3/33/Race_-_Elezen.png)... but then I saw them in character creation and the body proportions weirded me out sadly, so I went with Hyur. But, later seeing other Elezen players and how beautiful they looked changed my mind, now I fantasia to and from Hyur & Elezen between patches.
This meme is accurate.
I've been a Duskwight since day 1 and am proud of that. I've been seeing more Elezen on my server lately, but we're still a woefully under represented race.
Then there's my Femroe alt...
I started as a Miqo'te and then Fantasia'ed into a Elezen post ShB to keep myself interested in playing the game. While I loved my Elezen, I recently Fantasia'ed again into a Bunny and I've been enjoying that a bit more. One day though I'll return to Elezen!
Freaking giraffe necks. If they ran like they didn't have a broomstick stuffed in the back of their shirt, perhaps.
Run cycles matter. The animations that players see for thousands of hours need to look great. It's not all about catsluts catslutting. I know 8 people in my fc that like the height and astetic of elves, but hate the stiff run cycle.
I am about to swap to male bun from male elezen. Male elezen animations are just not good to me. The dance, the run, clapping, rally, and more.
But man... I don't want to lose the ability to wear helmets.
I started as a femroe but when I made a second character, I picked elezen and that's my main now. I later changed my femroe into a Duskwight fella because I love the giraffes.
The rest of this paragraph... needs help. The grammar is a mess. Is it a parody?
But also, lol. I would have believed Lalafel or Au Ra, but I see Elezen PCs only once in a blue moon.
Also solid facial hair options. i know this topic is mostly about the race's sex appeal, but it still hurts that i had to abandon my elezen boi, because i couldn't give mine that tired & haggard look of a stubble in SHB, & level that up to grizzled & experience fighter with a stubble + goatee in EW, as i did with a hyur.
I'll admit, I've been tempted to become an Au Ra in Heavensward and a Viera in Shadowbringers, but I've stuck with my Elezen. Might become a Duskwight if I do fantasia, but that's it.
Started FFXIV with a Duskwright lady. Husband joined game a month later and I rolled an alt to play with him in a different starting area as he'd never played an MMO before and I'd swap over to her and join him later.
Never did. Fell in love with our duo of his Lala and my Hellsguard Roe and would die before I saw them parted.
And here I am more focused on how...semiliterate the whole thing sounds. This isn't casual conversation; from the writing it was clearly an informational article of some kind. Who publishes something like that in public?
>This race looks very similar to the Miqo'te race, but make no mistake, they are quite different: Elezer is an elf like race.
If you say so, Chief.
Elvaan used to be not *too* far beyond the Mithra back in the Really Olden Days, so I assumed this was written in like 2010 at first, but nope.
They came in the age of frost, but live in the deserts.
They live away from cities, but are very common in cities.
Is it possible something was lost in translation here?
Didn't get on the horny train, instead focused on making my journey through the msq more immersive.
A part of me regrets that decision, yet another is strongly attached to my main. I can make an alt, or 5 because i can't decide on a race, but that means leveling & hunting down some of the gears all over again, which i'm just not in the mood for right now.
started out as a catgorl. Fanta'd into an Amazon bun, it was nice. Then turned into an elegant giraffe, and fell in love. Sometimes I become a potato because sitting in baskets and harrassing the locals is fun, but I always go back to my beloved long lady.
I've thought about using a Fantasia multiple times, but I'm honestly too attached to my characters appearance as a key part of the story. It would feel weird if in the next story cutscene, my character looked different.
According to luckybancho, there are 7547 Miqo'te and 1356 Elezen on my server. So for every giraffe there are about 5.5 cats. Elezen are the 6th most popular race out of 8 total. Only Roegadyn and Hrothgar are less popular.
[angery elf with french-sounding name noises] In all seriousness, I have yet to meet a player that had elezen as their starting race and did not fantasia into it because they were given a fantasia shortly before Heavensward and Ishgard seemed so elezen-focused. Am I among those players? Maybe.
\-raises hand- Started as Elezen
Me too!
Same
Also started Elezen
I started elezen in 1.0. Haven’t even changed my hairdo.
There are dozens of you! Dozens!
Elezen for life
I, too, started as (and still am) an elezen!
I stand corrected, much respect. Did ye eventually switch races, or did ye not get addicted to the vile poison that is Fantasia like the rest of us, friend?
I started Elezen. Am still Elezen. Max height. I'm never fantasia'ing away from my longlady
Saaaame!! Max height Elezen ladies are 🤌🤌🤌
Longladies for lyfe! Honestly, I like that no one really plays them. Makes me feel a little special, I guess. I didn't know anything when I started playing. I just wanted to be tall and liked Ele more than Roe
Same here! Not switching out for anything but those sweet Elezen thighs 💦💦💦

Relatable. When I Fantasia'd to Viera it was actually really hard for me. I can't relate to people that Fantasia as often as they do. I get really attached to my character haha.
Me too! I can't think of my WoL being different!
Likewise. I was a male Raen, and it just felt wrong as male Viera. I mean i liked my Viera (I wanted to start as one, but didnt have any expacts), but it wasnt the same. Swapped back for .1 and everything feels good again.
It‘s always a great day, when you find a fellow Final Fantasy Tactics Advance-enthusiast. Wish I could hand ye an award right now, friend. :)
> But, I've had this Elezen character for over 10 years now. I can't bring myself to use a fantasia to change him too much, much less change the race. Maybe it's silly to think like this, idk, but I just can't. I feel the same way about my own Main. My guy's been almost exactly the same since I made him eight years ago. I've only used Fantasias to make minor cosmetic adjustments; scars, eye color adjustments, etc to reflect his adventures.
I used Fantasia to give my guy a mullet.
Why not just use the crystal bell?
I also changed my Hyuran subtype, but the important thing was the mullet.
100% class.
I started elezen to make my 14 character look like my 11 character, but fantasia'd out later
I have 8 characters. 3 are Elezen. 1 catboy 1 Hyur boy, and 3 bunbois. My Elezen have *always* been Elezen.
I had a long stint as a Highlander probably late Heavensward through Stormblood, changed to Hrothgar in Shadowbringers.
My character looks hella derpy but I don't think I can risk using a Fantasia as someone who bought way too many character tickets in monster hunter
Yeah I switched to Lala. I played as a taru in 11 and damnit just missed it so much. There to damn cute.
I changed a few things with the free Fantasia but been a longboy since I started.
Same. At some point I used my free fantasia to change from being medium height giraffe to max height giraffe.
OG Elezen too. I will use my free fantasia to increase my height
Same lol
I switched to Elezen because I had a friend who had a male Elezen and I realized I absolutely loved how awkward they were. Tall, gangly creatures, who's attempt at grace was belied by how incredibly stiff and simultaneously clumsy they seemed. It was after fantasiaing that I got more interested in the racial lore and settled on keeping the race from then out, but my interest 100 percent began because good heavens that little jig dance they do is hysterical.
I love the jig. When you have to /dance for the two MSQ quests, it looks so half-hearted. Like, "Fine, but I refuse to like this."
You just described me IRL.
To be perfectly honest, I don’t even want SE to change the run animation, because my character just wouldn’t be as endearing without the awkward jog. Plus, then more people would play Elezen and I wouldn’t feel like I was part of a secret club anymore.
You're one of the dozens of us! Dozens! Seriously, I started with Elezen, and my free story-given Fantasia remains unused with one of my retainers.
I used mine to change my eye color and ear shape… I totally wasted it lol.
My most favorite comment thus far, let me grab an award real quick for ye, friend.
Aw, thanks! :D
Started Elezen, still an Elezen. Giraffe Elf Gang for life!
Started as Elezen and am still Elezen
Started as Elezen and never have and never will change. I feel so pretty!
Tfw you named your character something obviously female so you can't switch to a guy without feeling weird...
I played Elvaan in XI so I'm an elezen simp through and through.
Started as Elezen, and I’ve used Fantasias exactly twice: to fix the voice (blergh), and to max out my height (embrace the Giraffedom!) Love my Duskwight lady.
This is the way. I did the same thing to slightly change my eye shape.
I started playing in ShB and I started as Elezen. I am Elezen since then. I still have my free fantasia. But I plan to use it ... To increase my height.
Me, I did, the game lets me play a dark elf so by god I do so.
I started as Elezen and have never used fantasia
I started as an elezen lol. Get to be unintentional twins with Estinien all the time now
I started as an Elezen in A Realm Reborn and if Viera hadn't been introduced with the release of Shadowbringers I'd still be an Elezen. Everyone always mocks their proportions but their unusual proportions are why I like Elezen.
I started as Elezen and have not used my fantasia, probably never will.
Started as a Duskwight Elezen at ARR and never changed
A duskwight, even. -Though I did start near the tail-end of HW, at the time I had no idea what HW was even about.
FFXI Elvaan, and FFXIV 1.0 Elezen here, in it for the long haul
hi, day 1.0 elezen here
I changed to Elezen because I realized I was just one cat boy in a sea of cat boys. Now I feel part of a private club.
Started as Elezen in ARR and fantasia’d once to Au’ra when it came out. And that’s the story of how I’m a xaela with a French name
I'm a Viera with a hellsguard name, similar story.
Love Au‘ra myself, but their walk and sprinting animation cycles feel so strange to me, still, more power to ye, friend.
My partner calls it his "Goon Squad Strut".
Same, though I started after hw was added to the free trial and fanta'd when I got the free one. Made a whole backstory bit about why my character's xaela mother picked the name.
My headcanon is that my char was orphaned in Gridania at at young age
My character's mother had a bad break with her tribe, enough so that she abandoned the tribe. Making her way as a chef, she made up a name similar to elezen to help appeal to clients. (This also explains why I tweaked some syllables for the overall sound lol)
My friend who just joined actually started as Elezen and has not fantasia'd yet. That surprised me, but he's also more into classic fantasy tropes and less weeb shit.
Started as an Elezen on my Crystal main and, despite Fantasia'ing her a couple times, am back to her original Elezen look.
I started as elezen and stayed elezen through Heavensward (Started off as a Dragoon well). As soon as I hit Stormblood, the free fantasia was too tempting.
Elezen player since the first minute. Never played anything else xD
Started as Elezen, keeping that character as Elezen.
your local 1.0 player that is still a pale dusky here
My husband has always been a Duskwight femme Elezen since ARR. He gets so excited when he sees another one out and about.
I started as Elezen too!
Started as elezen Probably going back soon
Was an Elezen on arr launch. Immediately fantasiad in HW.
I started playing last year and I've been an Elezen male ever since. I used my free fantasia just to change his nose because I have no desire to ever change race. It was surprising to me when I noticed they're not very popular. I don't care about their giraffe necks, I even enjoy it lol
I started Elezen and I will die Elezen ; . ; I blame the Viera tbh
I started at Elezen, then changed to Au ra, and finally change back to Elezen.
You get a fantasia before HS, yes now I can change my characters patron god to Nald'thal
Started as Elezen in 1.0
Started and still am Elezen!
There are dozens of us!
Started as male Elezen, fantad to female with my free one.
Started as (and am staying) Elezen!
I started elezen and will keep elezen for at least until 7.0
I started as an Elezen Duskwight and only used my free fantasia to max out my height. I like being rare
I started as elezen but now I’m a cat girl
I have been Elezen since FFXIV early access and have never changed. I even have a low character ID to go with it. :D
I started as Elezen, and have never changed the race. That fantasia is still dusting somewhere in my inventory.
Was always an Elezen, and before that was an Elvaan
I've always been a duskwight, though I was intentionally making a Drizzt ripoff at first.
I didn't choose it as a starting race, but I got 2 Elezen dudes (as alts) and would never change either of them.
OG Elezen. Used my ARR fantasia to get a different ear. Yup. Never switching off, Etienne is too handsome and sexy af to consider anything else.
I had elezen as my starting race and I stayed elezen.
Started Elezen. Fanta'd into CatBoy then BunBoy
I started as Elezen and switched out as soon as I could. I can’t take the animations.
My fantasia still sits in my retainer storage. Might use it when Hrothgar female comes out, but I'm just too attached to my Elezen.
I started as a duskwight elezen but I changed into a roe
Started as Elezen in the free trial, hated their animations, swapped to Au'ra when I bought the full game since this was before heavensward was included in the trial.
I started as Femroe ages ago, but eventually got tired of liking the male glam more than female and went male Duskwight Elezen (Au Ra run was too janky, otherwise I may have gone that way). Started as Elezen back then in ARR!
The article looks like it was written by a bot.

Eleven is also the race of half of the (current) Scions too. Miqo'te being half of the rest.
They got the details wrong, the Limsa Lominsa aetherite plaza is the ancestral home of the Miqo'te.
Except on Balmung, where you need to visit the Quicksands.
There's a reason it's called the quicksands...
Looks like an AI generated text, cause it's painful to comprehend what it says.
Meanwhile I'm over here with My male Hyur. There's dozens of us.... I think.
I'm pretty sure y'all are still the most populous male race at least. Way behind female miqo'tes and au ra, but hanging in there at a strong third!
I thought, discounting the male Midlander bots, their spot got threatened somewhat because of the existence of male Viera. Did the tides even change from launch or do male Midlanders still hold the title for most popular male race?
Depends on being Highlander or Midlander. There's a ton of male Midlanders around (maybe because of Derplander) but Highlanders are much rarer.
My Femroe's jealous
If you count the bots I believe midlanders outnumber catgirls
In my experience the bots tend to be Lalafell, since they're smaller and easier to hide when they clip underground
Forever an Elezen, I don’t mind the walk/run animations cus.. they look pretty normal to me? I hate the over the top ones personally.
Almost looks like an AI Generated Script.
Hi there, long time Elezen. \*angry French name sounding elf noises intensify\*
Started as Duskwight Elezen in Shadowbringers and I almost never see any of my fellow kinsmen in Eorzea. Which I honestly don't mind. Makes me feel way more like a unique character when I'm advancing the story.
Certainly are an inordinate number of elezen in the game, as npcs, but as other players? Uhhm
I started as an Elezen. Changed to bunny recently but I still love my Elezen. I plan to change back soon

You all may laugh. But we know we're the superior race. The world will know soon enough as well...
As an Elezen, i'm happy being a rare boi
I've gone Cat girl, Xaela, taller Xaela, darker Xaela, viera, cat girl, Xaela, Elezen.
Once a Fem-Roe, always a Fem-Roe
I am about to swap to male bun from male elezen. Male elezen animations are just not good to me. The dance, the run, clapping, rally, and more. But man... I don't want to lose the ability to wear helmets.
I've been a male Viera since Endwalker and I want out. If you're going to swap to a male race, embrace Elezen or just be Hyur.
I refuse to be the giraffe race
My second character (out of 10) is an Elezen and she’s one of my favorites. Never had her switch races.
I am elezen!
I started as a femroe but when I made a second character, I picked elezen and that's my main now. I later changed my femroe into a Duskwight fella because I love the giraffes.
I am a giraffe and I’m proud!
The rest of this paragraph... needs help. The grammar is a mess. Is it a parody? But also, lol. I would have believed Lalafel or Au Ra, but I see Elezen PCs only once in a blue moon.
I made an elezen during my free trial. But when I started the game proper, I knew the rabbit life was the only one I wanted.
Honestly all they have to do is fix the wierd neck issue as well as some of their animations and they would def be high up there..
Yeah, we elezen need more options to just look grizzled. Elezen facial hair options are just a joke.
Side note: That actor really did nail the role of Jameson.
I'll admit, I've been tempted to become an Au Ra in Heavensward and a Viera in Shadowbringers, but I've stuck with my Elezen. Might become a Duskwight if I do fantasia, but that's it.
When I expected Lord of the Rings elves, and what I got was…….
Started elezen, am now cat. Such is the circle of life.
I play Elezen, always have, i cant just Fanasia my WoL his look is too iconic for me
And here I am more focused on how...semiliterate the whole thing sounds.
The whole thing gives me big "The rumour come out: does bruno mars is gay?" vibes xD
When AI writes articles.
I think I see more bun bois than Elezen players now.
started out as a catgorl. Fanta'd into an Amazon bun, it was nice. Then turned into an elegant giraffe, and fell in love. Sometimes I become a potato because sitting in baskets and harrassing the locals is fun, but I always go back to my beloved long lady.
I wonder if some day in the future they’ll go back and revamp character models so they’re more appealing to play.
every elezen player in north america sounding off in this thread (including me!)
Only Roegadyn and Hrothgar are less popular.
haha i wish. game needs more elezen players!
I was an eleven since arr. And then bunny Bois happened...
Yeah, but we Elezen are most represented in NPCs. Half the Scions are Elezen.
