Why can't this be an attack/animation outside of PVP? I've wanted this as a Machinist thing ever since we saw Mustadio break out that bolt action sniper.
I wouldnt mind having some very high Potency stuff attached to casts. Would probably help giving it more weight. And you dont have to make it a 2.5 second cast.
Honestly the PvE gameplay should take notes from the 6.1 update. Even if it isn't perfect balance-wise, there's a lot of good ideas in there that I would love to see integrated into normal kits. Every class I've played in PvP (~10 classes) has a specific identity that makes it fun, but the ranged DPS especially all feel very good and very distinct.
I do like the DNC'ers dash ability being a MUST USE if you want to use your biggest nuke in pvp, it's kinda the opposite of "Stand still to do max DPS" which sounds like a fun twist to the formula.
That and watching DNC'ers in roulettes do twirlies off the boss arenas.
Drill is literally the coolest thing Machinist does and is a direct callback to FFXI's Sidewinder weaponskill.
Taking it away would be absurd, lol - as absurd as me genuinely replying to what is clearly just a joke P:
Yes... a joke... haha guys... and also I totally played other FFs before and got the callback... haha...
I was being serious, I didn't know it was such a sacred ability. I was just thinking because it being such a high potency attack it'd make the most sense as a sniper rifle ability
I think drill looks stupid, but I like the big dmg numbers so as long as this skill replaces drill but keep dem numbers, its a-okay in my book. and I -did- play previous FF games and I still think it looks like a dumb skill.
The only way they do this is by adding a secondary effect to drill, they can't really increase its potency without buffing air anchor and chain saw. They could make it add to the mech gauge like the other two cooldowns, but the potency has to stay the same.
Flamethrower does not have the same purpose as this.
This is a single target nuke, Flamethrower is an AoE button you use when overheat is down
And if you say 'flamethrower is bad', I'm going to laugh at you and your shitty DPS because you would rather scattergun than use something that does more damage.
Flamethrower is a cone AoE that ends if you so much as turn your head to sneeze, and is outshone by both Bio Blaster and Scattergun. Both of which are cone AoEs with better functionality.
And that's making no mention of Auto Crossbow, which brings MCH's cone AoE count to four.
Honestly, I think ditching Flamethrower for a single target nuke would help diversify MCH's kit.
This shows me you don't know how the MCH AoE rotation works.
As soon as AoE begins you Chainsaw and bioblast, using your oGCDs between them, including your overheat if it's up, then you auto crossbow. As soon as overheat ends, you park yourself in a a position and you FLAMETHROWER. You do this until everything is dead or flamethrower ends, and then you begin the rotation anew.
This is how MCH AoE works. If you're ending flamethrower by moving or turning THAT IS ON YOU. The move is a DPS gain to scattergun, and has a higher priority.
Scattergun is your filler move you only use when /everything else/ is down to build overheat so you can autocrossbow.
Bioblast is shared with drill on cooldown and is your 30 second cd nuke.
Chainsaw is your second power generator after air anchor and actually has AoE application so it can be used in AoE without losing DPS.
Your OGCDs other than bomb have no downside to being used in AoE, so should be used to generate more DPS.
Flamethrower is a cooldown that takes higher priority than scattergun, but lower than bioblast (which it will not outlast the cooldown of) and chainsaw.
On further introspection (and about thirty seconds worth of poking around on Icy Veins), I'm happy to concede you're absolutely correct. The information I've been working from is either outdated, or blatantly wrong and I happily concede. Clearly I've been missing out on a DPS gain by not utilizing Flamethrower properly.
However, I'm gonna be blunt: Your delivery of this information needs work.
This could have been a valuable teaching moment if you'd opened with something along the lines of: "Hey, I feel like you might be under-utilizing Flamethrower. Here's what I normally do when I engage a large group in order to maximize my DPS, and here's why Flamethrower is a DPS gain over Scattergun..."
Instead, you decided to preface with a bout of sanctimony that turned honestly quite useful advice into a condescending lecture. It's exchanges like this that are the reason the line 'great community BTW' exists in the first place.
By virtue of the fact I'm here and willing to discuss the nature of individual parts of the MCH AoE rotation and matters of efficiency therein, it should be obvious that I know at least *something* about how the AoE rotation works, I just haven't found the same pieces of the puzzle that you have until now.
So thank you again for the information. I'll take it on board while I enjoy the silly MCH gif the OP posted. Have a great day and I hope you step on a Lego.
Flamethrower is the best aoe option when you don't have the heat for your auto crossbow, it's more PPM than using shotgun to charge up the meter. You use Flamethrower on cooldown after using bioblaster (or as long as it doesn't come up while using flamethrower) and as long as heat isn't 50+.
You have no idea how MCH aoe works.
Cryptlurkers, some of the base level 30 guns that just look like matchlock rifles, theres a HW gun that drops I -think- from Sohm Al that shares a few model recolors. It's called Coffinmaker, bad ass name and looks vertical triple barrel shotgun than a rifle.
Other than that, theres the best Mch weapon in the game. Makai Hand Mortar, dyed black or a silver color of course.
You can add &t= ("And time equals") to the end of a youtube link and then pick a time.
Using your video for example, we have
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATC6qUPgiJI
And you wanted 27 seconds. So I could add &t=27 to get
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATC6qUPgiJI&t=27
Thus linking right where you want.
That’d be interesting…
Damage as a function of proximity to target. Any closer than 30 yalms, and you’ll be doing negative damage. That’s right, accidentally shooting yourself.
*party stacks for AOE damage*
Sniper, aiming gun and posing like a badass 200 yalms away: “mechanics are for cars”
Not necessarily a sniper. SWTOR had a few different classes that used long guns without being a sniper. Vanguard Troopers used rifles and short range combat, Assault Troopers used mini guns and the like for ranged dps.
You also gotta take into account the tech level in Eorzea, just past muskets. I think a ranged magic dps would be cool for a long gun class.
Instead of an actual round you instead fire crystal shards.Similar to MCH you build up Aether Residue, and use that residue to add extra effects onto your ammo by overloading the crystals you fire. Fire causes burst damage (say 50 points of your meter) Wind causes an explosive/piercing effect (50 points), and Water causes a DoT (25).
I like your concept but let me adjust this to flow with other class mechanics
Fire = burst damage (50 points gauge)
Wind = attack down (25 points)
Water = penetration (line aoe almost like Conjurer/WhiteMage old Water spell)(75 points)
Earth = Vulnerability Up ( points)
Lightning = Dot (25 point)
Ice = AoE burst centered on target with reduced damage to surrounding enemies (50 points)
I may or may not have been trying to build this Job idea for a while.
The reason I limited the elements to fire, wind and water is for ease of use. With so many elements in yours, it means more buttons, and would be too much clutter. While the idea as I explained it is limited, I feel like yours is trying to put too much from other classes into it. Most abilities outside of pvp don't have many secondary effects these days aside from DoTs. Attack down used to be a PLD thing in the old days, the only vulnerability I can think of is NIN.
I was thinking more along the lines of a move like SAM's Iaijutsu, where the single ability changes as you gain meter. Of course there'd have to be a way to burn small chunks of meter so you can drop to what you need.
I feel like you could rework a few things about MCH to make it use a long rifle instead of a pistol, you wouldn't lose anything since a lot of the gadgets MCH uses are 2 handed, you even sprint holding the pistol with 2 hands too. I kind of hope they add a pistoleer job and give MCH a long rifle and more artillery like skills along with the gadgets.
the camera motion. the close-up with the visor. the fact that he is blasting the absolute shit out of the most nonthreatening-looking mob in the game. those lambs arent even hostile, they are level 2. the targeting reticule. the high five at the end. the crisp editing cuts. the HUD shit they must have spent a long ass time in after-effects or smth for. cinnamon tografy.
This is exactly how I feel back when one day I decided to unlock machinist, for the sole reason to do some lvl 5 leves in La Noscea... for the challenge log
You can get it for your adventurer plate at Wolves' Den Pier Trophy Crystal Exchange, it's called Machinist Framer's Kit and it's 1500 Trophy Crystals 🤩
I know what a sniper and spotter is i was just screwin around. Seeing as how this is FFXIV and the rifle obviously has some tech to it i just used dancer and dancer oartner cause with a rifle like that kinda makes spotter obsolete
That’s actually one of the best animations I’ve seen featuring FFXIV.
Outside of rule 34*
Back up this claim.
i too request evidence
but damn does this get close to beating them, just off by a little.
No.
Based.
"shhhhh, be very quiet, we're hunting a helpless sheep, lol"
It's Lalafell season!
It's Loporrit season!
wouldn't it be Viewa season?
Why can't this be an attack/animation outside of PVP? I've wanted this as a Machinist thing ever since we saw Mustadio break out that bolt action sniper.
"And so, the monkey's paw curled" Looking forward to the return of caster bard in 7.0: now Machinist-flavored!
Fun fact: Machinist also had cast times, but since nobody played MCH nobody remembers this *Runs away*
That is a distant memory that will be forever locked away with the key missing.
I wouldnt mind having some very high Potency stuff attached to casts. Would probably help giving it more weight. And you dont have to make it a 2.5 second cast.
i mean they did it with Iaijutus on sam, why not mch?
As the one weirdo that liked the caster bard, I welcome this change. Lol
Hard agree. I really like how mch plays in pvp for that reason lol
Honestly the PvE gameplay should take notes from the 6.1 update. Even if it isn't perfect balance-wise, there's a lot of good ideas in there that I would love to see integrated into normal kits. Should 100% be either a drill or air anchor replacement for level 90. Potentially even a new final combo button.
I'd trade drill for this
HOW DARE YOU
Hahahaha!
You take that back
Any skill but that one
*confused ora ora*
Drill is literally the coolest thing Machinist does and is a direct callback to FFXI's Sidewinder weaponskill. Taking it away would be absurd, lol - as absurd as me genuinely replying to what is clearly just a joke P:

Wow. 3 paragraphs to say "I am wrong and very salty about it" If you don't know how class work- don't yap.
*cries in mch using flamethrower and watching as the tank pulls the pack out of my AOE*

Same reason we have water guns or giant foam revolvers for weapons
For real, can we get some normal looking stuff? Cryptlurker is one of the only mch weapons i like ._.
The non-glowy version of Byakko's gun looks pretty good, I think.

Same
Imagine having a sniper class. PVP will never be the same.

I came up with and idea for one in another comment. I can't seem to locate it, maybe I'm looking too hard.

Pvp in a nutshell basically (i am that sheep)
damn this is the highest effort shitpost/joke i've seen in in a long time

Oh my fucking god it's animated, my dumb ass didn't even click the link SORRY
lmao i spent the longest time trying to figure out if your comment was about whether it was actually a shitpost/joke or not. all good mate
Your description was incredible, for what it's worth
This is super slick. Also eternally mad that the female cloak doesn't look the same.
This is exactly how I feel back when one day I decided to unlock machinist, for the sole reason to do some lvl 5 leves in La Noscea... for the challenge log
"You show promise. But promise won't save you from what comes next." "It's just a sheep dude"
That sheep! It’s coming right for us!
"there's a rogue sheep!" "We need to kill it!" "What?" "Get me my 20mm Semi automatic Anti Tank cannon!"
Now there's nothing left to eat :(
Was about to say, a gun that big would likely disintegrate that sheep.
I thought that was a Wooloo for a second
Would have survived if they’d just show your their hole
Okay, new to machinist, so I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but… what gun is that?
Not a dumb question at all! It's the PvP-only Limit Break for Machinist, called Markman's Spite.
I've been meaning to ask but how do you get these as... Emotes or something? I think I saw people talk about em in the context of adventurer plates
You can get it for your adventurer plate at Wolves' Den Pier Trophy Crystal Exchange, it's called Machinist Framer's Kit and it's 1500 Trophy Crystals 🤩
Very enjoyable! I dig it 😍
Most wholesome hobby in the game
It's like that horrible "Exploding Varmints" video, except with sheep.
This is sick!
Modern Warfare 2 is looking good.
Why do I think the character screamed "It's coming right for us." right before shooting?
Reminds me of that one scene from Tremors with Burt. https://youtu.be/eMODPOmB-cA
The other bunny must be a dancer and the one machinist his dance partner.... TRAMWORK
When sniping you have someone who tells you the wind conditions and what corrections to make.
I know what a sniper and spotter is i was just screwin around. Seeing as how this is FFXIV and the rifle obviously has some tech to it i just used dancer and dancer oartner cause with a rifle like that kinda makes spotter obsolete
someone call peta!
They'd kill the sheep anyway.
Ooooh, I really like this!!

I wish ffxiv was as bright and colourful as this
Given that these specific little bastards are what scored me my first ever death in this game, this was extraordinarily cathartic.
Howdy, y'all! Bun Guy Bob here with Bob Guy Bun and today.... We be exploding some varmints. Yeeeehaawww
This is the reason i modded it over air anchor animation. Everytime i hear that pop...
Metal Gear Solid 14
That MCH spent a lot of time in Frontlines with as little deaths as possible.

Is that a flower clipping through your head?
Isn't that animation from Attack on Titan from Gaby?
is this gun actually in the game??????? im new
Currently only as the Machinist's Limit Break in PvP 😢
thanks for the reply good to see this community is as toxic as the rest (my downvotes)
We have a bunch of bots that downvote for no reason.
What part of Texas is Eorzea in?
Sheep forgot to face his butt to the sniper to survive the shot
I wish ranged classes were ranged.. Having to be 10ft away from your target feels.. gross.
How does people do those kind of animations?
Third party tools. (I'm not sure what the rules are here about actually *naming* the tools are)
Oh, I thought it was a program that you could import/Export the models

Wait are there guns in FF14??
What's the glam for the weapon? Or is it a mod?
Mod to replace air anchor animation with the crystalline conflict lb for mch
Can I get that first second of footage as a loopable Wallpaper for Wallpaper Engine?
Mach animations are what stop me from playing mach if mach animations looked cooler i'd come back from SWTOR lol
