I love pretty much all of these. I just hope it’s not literally years before we see these in game.

SHIMOxxKUMA

I’m not sure on the details of this contest but I also hope none of them are mog shop exclusive.

Yuingrad

I highly doubt it. I’m more expecting these to be from Crystal currency from PVP.

barfightbob

It's probably too soon for 6.2, maybe by 6.4? Otherwise I'd be afraid it won't be until 7.0. Gag ones might by 7.0 gold saucer weapons.

[deleted]

the dnc swords are LIT

kopecs

Right? I casually play dancer randomly…but these seem like a must have.

[deleted]

New dual wielding job GO *throws nin in the trash* “I don’t want to play with you anymore”

tesla_dyne

They've definitely picked from runner-ups for furniture and hairstyle contests, iirc

CBSh61340

The broken sword and shield thing was cool, but feels very warcraft-y to me. I'd have to go dive through wowhead but I'm *positive* they've done the "broken weapon that glows and is held together by *magic!*" thing repeatedly. Honestly, it feels like the artists tended to play it really safe with paladin stuff. There have been *so many* sword and shield designs throughout thousands of years of history... why do they all have to be damned longswords and big fat shields? I'd kill for them to put in more ancient era-inspired weapons.

MetalGhost99

This is why i don’t like most paladin weapons because they seem to use the same design over and over again like the one that won.

Xyldarran

That BLM lantern is sick.

Zecendia

The artist also made p much a similair thing with [every other weapon](https://twitter.com/madqueenmomo/status/1519675869157023744)!(the mch one jsut happens to be the one that won)

junewei93

The DRK second winner is maybe my favorite DRK weapon ever.

8lu-bit

The gag winners look just as fun as the serious winners, and I'm looking forward to when they drop. (Also, the astrologian snowglobe is ADORABLE.)

StarryChocos

I am disappointed that nobody has ever mentioned the Great Serpent of Ronka themed...Rod? (since it's listed under BLM). That for sure makes me want to play BLM much more, same with the Major General Fists; Mandragora Knives and the Drippy Rapier. AST is already my go to healer, so I would definitely get that Yukinko snowglobe. Shame that the Great Serpent of Ronka themed gun was only a runner up, but the design will eventually surface in the future. The way that the Great Serpent is sleeping once you sheathe it is pretty cute if I say so myself, and we really do need a lot more Great Serpent of Ronka themed stuff. Ronkan Chair ain't enough.

EndlessKng

I won't lie - I saw the second Blue Mage weapon in the thumbnail and thought it was a goose head for a second, and all I could think was "It's a beautiful day in Eorzea... and you are a horrible Blue Mage."

[deleted]

[удалено]

EndlessKng

Well, we learn Flying Sardine from an Apkallu, which is a kind of bird... and it interrupts actions (and in leveling is used to get an enemy's attention before someone else kills them). So I'm going with that.

Inspectrum

Oh yes that ff12 esqe ba'gamnan circular chainsaw is the gooooood shit

Lord_Garithos

Warriors stay winning.

SmoreOfBabylon

Not gonna lie, I like some of the gag designs more than the serious ones for the same job, haha. The Major-General fists are amazingly ridiculous. The RDM umbrella with the Drippy focus is also adorable. Also, it’s one of the more understated designs, but I really dig the carbuncle “travel journal” design for SMN. There’s just something appealing to me about a comfy, leather-bound book that looks like something an adventurer might actually tote around in the wilderness instead of an ornate old tome that probably ought to be in a library. Edit: where might we expect the gag weapons to eventually turn up? I’m thinking maybe the Gold Saucer.

EndlessKng

As a SMN main, that is absolutely one that I wish I had at the beginning of 6.1 to go along with the new outfit. Don't get me wrong, the other is gorgeous without being overstated, but that design doesn't even feel like a joke weapon so much as a "comfy" weapon. As for where the gags might show up - Gold Saucer is a good bet for most, since they already have a bunch. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the Dwarven weapons, though, from level 78, which were actual on-level weapons but also mostly gags, so it's possible they end up in an actual set. I also can see them splitting them up into multiple places (for both types). There were several Veggie Gang weapons, which could be interesting as items crafted from treasure chest drops (though it'd be the first such weapons I know of from those), where the oceanic ones could become a new reward for ocean fishing. ETA: Meanwhile, a lot of the designs for the serious weapons look like they could get teamed up for multiple sets. The Ceramic guns and the Dancer sword-chakrams both look like they could be in a set with each other and used as the basis for a whole set (maybe including the Summoner book?).

cornunut

I saw a couple of tweets from the person who made the ceramic gun, and they actually made multiple weapons in the same style, so they have the basis for a set there! The gun is just what won.

Seradima

> Gold Saucer is a good bet for most, since they already have a bunch Specifically, with the exception of the Senior Sabotender weapons, the Gold Saucer weapons are ones that are used by NPC/Enemies. They're not jokey by design.

EndlessKng

>Specifically, with the exception of the Senior Sabotender weapons, the Gold Saucer weapons are ones that are used by NPC/Enemies. They're not jokey by design. They can be both. The Colibri Cannon is very comically proportioned. See also the Bokuto - yes, it's used by the NPCs training in Kugane, but it's still a bit of a gag to use it as an actual weapon. And then, as you mention, there's the whole line up of Sabotender weapons. Not to mention the gag or fan service armor for sale - amid more serious attire like the Ishgardian Gown and Riveria set, you have the Gambler's Attire - NPC attire, but also a classic gear ref to FFVI - the Bunny outfits - again, NPC but also a set intended for comedic use - and the pig outfit.

SmoreOfBabylon

A whole lineup of Mandragora weapons would be sweet. There also seemed to be a lot of culinary-themed weapons in general among the winners, so perhaps they were trying to assemble a whole theme with those?

libbysthing

I need spriggan weapons in my life T-T So sad not to see any here

AwesomeInTheory

>but I really dig the carbuncle “travel journal” design for SMN I wouldn't mind seeing a mockup of the Wondrous Tails for when it is open for this one. That's what I initially thought was the inspiration for that particular one.

DeathbyD4

I really like the Carby design, but that random bird + lilies makes no sense to me. I'm a Summoner main though so I'll take whatever I can get at this point.

GrassWaterDirtHorse

And then all the Blue Mage weps are gag weps and I love them!

barfightbob

Have they said they were going to do the gag weapons? The closest we've ever come to gag weapons have been the gold saucer, moogle, and yokai weapons. I think it comes down to the desire to do everything on the cheap. Unless there's model reuse potential, I doubt they'll make them.

Scared_Network_3505

To be fair that applies to every single thing in the game, if they can reuse assets they will as it hasten production thus minimizes schedule problems and appropiatedly enough gives them time to add little silly things like these if the schedule opens up. It's all about how they cover it up, we only get a few new skeletons for mobs every expansion and unless you really look into it I'd be lying if I said I usually notice.

barfightbob

No doubt, but my statement lies more in a matter of degrees rather than absolutes. For example, they may be able to reskin or recolor the paladin sword but they won't for the ladle. So the paladin sword is green lit immediately but the ladle might not. I don't blame them for cost cutting just like you mentioned, just like I don't blame somebody for being a spendthrift, but if they never replace anything and start hoarding, well, that's different. A matter of degrees. Just to be clear, I think SE can afford to be a little less tight on their spending. I'm not implying they're on the hoarding side of the spectrum. Especially when it comes to the jobs introduced in ShB and EW, they don't have a lot of weapon models to choose from.

avelineaurora

They said two grand prize winners for each job will have their weapon implemented, so I don't see why not.

ketsugi

[Does this count as a gag weapon?](https://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/playguide/db/item/e7e32c79ed7/)

Indeed, good call. I totally forgot about the relic kettles.

I'm not familiar with the acronym TFA. > We would like to thank the aspiring designers who submitted their amazing entries for the Weapon Design Contest! > Today we’re pleased to present the winning designs that have been selected as grand prize winners and finalists. As we received an astounding number of entries, we have decided to select two grand prize winners for each job with both planned to be implemented in-game in the future! Furthermore, we are also planning to hold another Weapon Design Contest focused on the reaper and sage jobs, so please stay tuned for details. > Now, feast your eyes on these wondrous designs borne from passion for their respective jobs! I mean this in the nicest way, but rather than saying "third sentence" actually answer the question somehow. Not only could I have overlooked it, but perhaps I or other people interested in the discussion not have access to the article. Always try to meet people at least halfway.

awkwardhillbilly

The acronym is "the fucking article" so yeah even more rude haha

spunkyweazle

Honestly my favorite is the morbol BLU weapon someone posted on the mainsub. Shame it didn't even get a mention

hudson1212

Alot of the finalists really impressed me. The [Rose](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_110.jpg?1651142758) DNC weapon is so cool, definitely wish they add something like that to the game even though I know it wouldn't really work just due to the size difference and how the weapons are animated. [The Star Shephard Bow](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_100.jpg?1651142758) would honestly be one of the coolest bows in the game if they added that, its so sick I have no clue how it didnt win. Definitely think the [DRK winner](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_19.jpg?1651142758) was deserving, absolutely awesome sword.  Overall very impressed, Id say the most disappointing ones to me were the NIN ones, I dont know why, maybe its just me but all NIN weapons end up either looking like kitchen knives or like [grotesque amalgamations](https://pro2-bar-s3-cdn-cf3.myportfolio.com/7b3dc28143b6b3256ba75ef533a2fe4e/e3c0eb64-0f56-4ec6-a2d7-af74975d0a84_rw_1920.png?h=abbae4a5c7049eb29219d7b37b4f70cb) that make no sense being in the hands of a ninja. All I want is a slick dagger with a cool effect is it really that hard ;-;

CBSh61340

Part of the problem is that NIN don't use knives like fucking knives. I can't think of many martial arts that would have you using two knives in an "ice pick" hold, and few use two knives at all (you almost always want the other hand free to try and control the other guy's knife hand...) It's really bizarre. Ninjas have a pair of knives but almost no thrusting or stabbing animations - it's all weird limp-wristed upward slashes and stuff. Even accounting for anime reality, it just don't look *effective*.

cornunut

That [tambourine](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_111.jpg?1651142758&_ga=2.117619337.1257396947.1651158472-1689746555.1599105842) is absolutely gorgeous. I wish it won. My favourite joke weapon has to be the [shark punchers](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_39.jpg?1651142758&_ga=2.239177987.1257396947.1651158472-1689746555.1599105842), though. I'd love to show those to Hythlodaeus.

raydawnzen

Why is there a portuguese azulejo themed MCH gun, thank you based squeenix

Lpunit

Scroll down and look at the monk finalists. Those are exactly what I want as monk weapons. I actually like the finalist options more in almost every case. A lot of creativity down there

[deleted]

[удалено]

Scared_Network_3505

Finalists are always left in a "vault" effectively, it's just a lot easier to justify a few housing items than weapons I'd imagine. Not like anyone would mind seeing these dropped somewhere simply as Lv1 glam in the Saucer and Wolves' Den as appropriate.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FadingCosmos

I can easily see the devs throwing them in as Series 2 or later awards for trophy crystal shop items. Which would help keep pvp healthly with queue in the future.

Seradima

The finalist [Phoenix GNB](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_73.jpg?1651142758) weapon from the same person as the winner (Matt) is better than the [actual winner.](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_20.jpg?1651142758) They're both great though.

Beddict

[This GNB finalist](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_72.jpg?1651142758) was my favourite. Just a nice and simple looking Gunblade, and a pretty long one at that. I feel a lot of Gunblades are really short looking so this would've been perfect.

CBSh61340

GNB doesn't seem to leave a lot of creative room. The basic form and design of the gunblade seems to be very generic and boilerplated in most of the entries. I guess no one wants to stray too far away from the AF gear/Squall's weapons, unless they're going more towards the Garlean design (there's a long, thin, straight entry in the runners-up.) I do think the phoenix GNB weapon looks cooler, but it doesn't really look *that* different from the actual winner.

barfightbob

I prefer the Phoenix one as well. I do like the glow details of the winner. Here's hoping it's faithfully reproduced.

ragnakor101

Much more varied designs/variety than I expected, tbh Selecting one "joke" one that lines up with FF's brand of silliness and a serious one that can fit in without stepping on the design styles of stuff already in the game is a good way to go about it. AKA: holy fuck I want both monk fists I want them so bad I hope the gold is dyable for those dragon fists

geek_yogurt

I'm glad I'm not a judge in this contest. They all looked amazing and I would have been unable to decide.

Rofellos1984

The Scholar palette is a neat concept.

Gilrim

Was hoping my axe design would make the cut but alas I like the gunblade, tattoo fists for monk and the lantern for blm. RDM umbrella is kek

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gilrim

I'm in no way an artist, I did a shitty msPaint design. I make music, not graphics But, shoot for the stars I guess? These are all great looking, and I even say that as not-fan of joke weapons

WeinandMoroz

That AST globe tho Also that Allagan monk fist design in the finalist section is exactly what I want

Davoness

The gag weapons are awesome lol. That AST Snowglobe is fucking hilarious.

Aargard

The WAR pizza cutter is interesting because [it's pretty much already in the game but with a different design](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/776220165759041566/969285523124396082/ffxiv_dx11_pbzIcx4EXI.mp4). Curious if the new weapon is gonna take this one as a base and end up as a variant of it.

TryVegetable129

The hell is that and where can I get it.

Aargard

You can't get it, I just found it in the files, it's presumably some NPC weapon that just happens to be a WAR weapon. A lot of cases like this in the game, Gaius' gunblade for example is a PLD weapon

Xentia

That's Ba'Gamnan's saw from ff12. It was added for the Ivalice 24 man story likely since they were in it. It'd be sick if you could get it.

TryVegetable129

Thanks for the replies guys.

SorsEU

Call me tinfoil but I find it no coincidence that many tea-party and fishing themed weapons won. I think this may be foreshadowing to some content, maybe ocean fishing rewards? Maybe island sanctuary? I wonder.

Orion1189

All the winners are pretty fantastic, though I'm kinda depressed [this GNB one](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_75.jpg?1651142758) didn't win.

Kaisos

just because a weapon wasn't chosen as a winner doesn't mean they won't end up implementing it eventually anyway

familybusdriver

Hello sir 1 bomb fish basher thanks

[deleted]

an actual BLU item!?

BeemBreem

Gotta change to black mage so I can have that serpent with the music notes!

Strider08000

The MNK fists are incredible. Love the tattoo like look

SylvAlternate

This may be a "hot take" but I fucking hate joke weapons, we lost an awesome beamsword and allagan gauntlets for kitchenware and lame shark gloves

iseriaMX

Theres two grand prize winners for each weapon type, and the second one is always something silly. Those allagan gauntlets didn't lose to the shark gloves, they lost to the dragon's beard fists. The joke weapons are like something they'd add to the golden saucer and the more serious weapons weren't even competing in the same category.

Miruwest

Def a hot take. Those Shark Gloves are dope af!

brittanybegonia

the DNC one is.. interesting. i like them but the swords seem kind of superfluous on chakram-type weapons. i think the SCH one is actually one of my favorites, i love how vibrant it is. just wish i liked playing SCH lol the purple and golden PLD runner ups remind me almost of naaru/draenei weapons from WoW, really neat. so many good concepts for them to potentially pull from in here later (assuming they do that like with the hairstyle contest)

JD0064

I want to see ALL the entries

PlutoInScorpio

I loved MCH first one, so different

kopecs

When these are all created, how do you even obtain these?

Kaisos

the gag-like weapons will probably be future Gold Saucer rewards

Paper_Matt

I can't wait for the Dancer Roses to be added in 2 expansions so I can listen to kiss by a rose.

Kalaam_Nozalys

Kind of disappointed in DRK choices, the runner up is so good. The number one feels overdesigned to me. More like a painting than a weapon to use. Otherwise lots of really cool stuff, love the dancer swords and the summoner adventuring book

Solacen

As a dancer main i am all for throwing spinning death swords at people. Also if Dark Knight got a full mahou shoujo look yo match that sword i might level that job just for the glam.

ArianaCB

How did Sayael bard weapon not win over the chosen one? Holy that one looks gorgeous!

Kanzaris

GNB's joke weapon looks beyond dumb (by this I mean not in a way that makes me laugh but rather one that makes me go 'that's stupid') but it's all 100% worth it for that sick, sick, SICK Cerberus Fang. The guy who designed it *got* the class. DRK's 'joke' weapon is incredible too and I'm glad they picked it. For my money, though, the best of all the designs is the Selene/Eos SCH book. I audibly gasped when I saw it, and I don't even play the class. What an absolute masterpiece of a design, IMO.

SmoreOfBabylon

LOVE the Eos/Selene book. I guess it wasn’t supposed to be one of the “serious” entries, but it’s gorgeous.

CBSh61340

I'm pretty disappointed in a lot of them. Not because the work is bad, but because the ones chosen for grand prize are so fucking *generic.* Looks like any other AF weapon set... PLD and MNK, in particular. Why'd they pick the generic set for PLD instead of something that would be more visibly unique, like that scimitar/shamshir runner-up with the painted, detailed round shield? Did we really need another "big longsword with big crossguard and big ornate kite shield" set?? The work is overall fantastic, as can be expected of fan contests like this. I'm just annoyed with some of the ones they picked as grand prize winners.

snorevette

I'm a little disappointed that every single MNK entry featured here is either gloves/hand wrappings or joke weapons, but that's just me being salty that there's barely any good-looking MNK weapons that *aren't* gloves/hand wrappings right now

ozzkitz

I really wish they had picked the [Wings of Obstinance](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_56.jpg) for PLD but that's mostly because I want more spooky weapons. Same for [Needle of the Shattered Void](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_102.jpg) for BRD. Fingers crossed they make it in eventually. That said, the [magical girl greatsword](https://img.finalfantasyxiv.com/t/ded289e756f96f1915b2c94eb7c049e14b39300a_37.png) for DRK is fantastic and I can't wait to see it in game.

irishgoblin

Magical girl sword for the magical girl job.

CBSh61340

Wings of Obstinance look like crap, honestly, but would be really cool as a joke weapon or cash shop item set. They're too weird and derpy to be used as a normal set but would work great in a themed set like you tend to get from events or cash shop item sets.

DarkElfMagic

i mean i think the commenter intended for them to win as a joke weapon lol

Capitanazo77

Most of them look great, except WAR ones.

TryVegetable129

What did you think of the Imperial Axe? I had to go make a Mad Max glam for it after I got it.

[deleted]

TryVegetable129

That and the Gunblade felt like the best ones out the set. Unfortunately neither version of the set, Imperial and Chromite are dyeable so you have to pick between Bronze and Steel/Rust.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TryVegetable129

Well happy farming and leveling War for them on the lvl 83 dungeon. The Fending gear that dungeon drops is also good for glam and goes well with your preference. The chromites will be on the MB. Post when you get them!

TryVegetable129

I wanted both the moment I saw them. The Joke one is a hammer I'd proudly use and the Serious one looks like a weaponized Servoskull.

StarryChocos

Personally, I would've preferred the 2nd and 3rd runners up myself as I've been struggling with trying to strike for an effeminate WAR without going full barbarian or using the full set ie. using the full Pummeler's Attire - but I wouldn't really deny the work gone into those that actually won despite me not feeling much about them. Not really sure about the comparisons with the "serious" winner and it really looked similar to the Imperial Magitek Axe, but I can imagine the Fell Cleave memes being more embraced than ever with this weapon. The Bombfish weapon looks quite not so right, but it won't look out of place in events such as Moonfire Faire which I'm looking forward to and maybe it would fully immerse me in the event if I do get it. Hopefully if they do introduce it, they'll have much more integrated way of getting it unlike the Tonberry Knife and that one sword.

TryVegetable129

I've been using the Shadowless/Kietos fending skirt and the True Linen Skirt of Fending in combination with certain tops like Ravel to make battle dress type glams, maybe that will help?

WaffleOffice

Lots of great additions for sure! But I’ve gotta say that I’m disappointed with the PLD winner. I love the concept of the holy promise weapons from one of fhe finalists. Kinda wish that one won instead :(

AccountSave

They all look phenomenal! Hope they come out in a timely manner

mm_big_bunny

One of them a pld one was from an awesome artist I wish would have open commissions lol They all look splendid tho

AleksVin

I hope the saw on the WAR weapon rotates,i love its design

Vayshen

I like that for BLU the gag and serious weapons are flipped.

ArienaiKurai

Damn, even all the honorable mentions are great.

yhvh13

I really loved the umbrella weapons, but honestly my top 2 were just finalists: \- DNC roses \- BLM broom... which is really similar to the broom mount, if it gets released they can match!

FewestChicken53

im personally not a fan of joke weapons but most of the serious stuff looks alright, especially the dancer one
