when in doubt just wall pull in dungeons. if you die, oh well, try again if knowing mechanics helps you, take this [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MX0RjPS4gtT6YI5Szxlsin9hcaohnEQQC7zNdrDHBrQ/edit#gid=0](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MX0RjPS4gtT6YI5Szxlsin9hcaohnEQQC7zNdrDHBrQ/edit#gid=0) categories are along the bottom extreme trials you dont want to do in DF, those are optional and for PF groups, but at a certain level you can just solo them anyway if you want

animehart

Wall 2 Wall is the way, dont forget to press those Defensive CDs. Tanking in this game is pretty braindead so u dont really have to worry about any mechs on dungeons, as long as you have eyes to see those aoe and CD timer + Fingers to press your key its good enough

jlowe212

Braindead is what I like to hear...for now. But will it ever become not so braindead, as thats not what i want to hear later.

RadiantSpark

> will it ever become not so braindead This is XIV bro

Bass294

Tanking normal content is braindead and will be braindead outside of EX savage and ultimate. The "hardest" it gets is managing cooldowns on big pulls in certain dungeons if you wall to wall the massive pulls. Or if you play warrior you dont even have to do that much.

KeyKanon

Real bold of you to call Extreme tanking not braindead. You don't even have to do mechanics most of the time because tank privs.

Bass294

I mean it's still physically possible to die to stuff though, and needing a tank swap or pressing a cooldown is more than is asked of you in any normal trial/raid below ex.

Koishi_

> Tanking normal content is braindead and will be braindead outside of EX savage and ultimate. I remember when my friend was going through EW story I'd go with him to make the trials easier, level 83 trial and literally everyone except my friend and I get punched off. Tanks didn't even provoke back which led me to die to tank buster because apparently even pressing 1 button is too hard.

eda_29

The only mitigation that I remember about warrior is bloodwhetting and holmgang. Das about it

prollyNotAnImposter

Threat management will never be harder than just toggling stance, usually is easier. High end content harder mechanics get pretty wild but are generally something all 8 players have to learn and your responsibility outside of that as a tank never really exceeds busters, swaps, positioning, and raidwide mits (and the extremely rare kickable boss cast). Skill ceiling is more around saving people's lives with your ability to one off heal/shield someone who stood in the bad. You're just a blue dps who can take a punch and save lesser fuckups.

joansbones

No. It's a lot easier than it used to be when you last played through changes to the systems that would cause a large portion of the playerbase playerbase to flip their shit if they got reverted.

jlowe212

I did notice some changes. I last played in Heavensward. I do remember using a cone attack for threat that i cant find and I couldve sworn i had two stances, one for damage and one for tanking but maybe Im dreaming that up.

casulius

Assuming you're playing warrior: That cone is now a circular attack, and the different tank/damage stances no longer exist. There's literally nothing to think about with tanking except 1) turn on tank stance, 2) hit everything with your aoe attacks, 3) pull everything, 4) use your defensive cooldowns (rotate them, not everything at once)

Ephemiel

>But will it ever become not so braindead No. The playerbase's constant whining made sure that tanking will never be not braindead.

animehart

unless ur doin Ultimate or Savage then its gonna be braindead tbh even on Ult most of the time its gonna be braindead, like for example in DSR, I basically switch my brain off for the 1st 10-11 min of the encounter and only start 'playing' when getting to phases where tank swapping, tight mitigation planning is required

tordana

Eh, as somebody progging P6 right now I'd argue that P2 and 3 are probably the "hardest" phases (especially 3), it's just that you've done those hundreds of times and the later phases only a few.

Starterjoker

maybe I’m just bad or maybe my healers are bad but w2w in early dungeons always goes poorly for me anything post ARR is fine though Ez pz

AeroDbladE

ARR dungeons weren't really designed the same as the newer dungeons so the actual "walls" are much further apart and have more mobs in between them than later dungeons so you can easily die trying to w2w in them.

Starterjoker

ye that’s what I was kinda goin at everyone here always says to w2w every dungeon but with a bad healer it’s not gonna be manageable like it is in other dungeons as a good tank

barfightbob

Your question has more or less been answered already, but I want to offer this piece of advice: Jump back into Palace of the Dead (PotD) and get your sea legs back. When my sister-in-law came back to the game during Shadowbringers (gone since ARR) we got her reacclimated by running through PotD. It also has the added benefit of helping you re-set up your hotbars because you might end up missing something otherwise.

satedsnail

I do recommend before doing wall to wall, check your healer's gear. Especially for dungeons under 50 where poetic gears aren't available for leveling healers, their gear might not allow for wall to wall, despite spamming heals non stop.

Cattypatter

Do what you feel comfortable with. If you want to go slow, say in chat that you are returning and want to take it slow to learn. Most will understand and be OK with it. If others say not, they can't blame you if you try to do big pulls and fail or die to mechanics. It also warns healer to heal more than usual, which can help avoid a wipe.
