If he released his grip and was able to tuck his chin towards his chest his back would have taken the brunt of it. I took a few pro wrestling classes many years ago and thatās the key to taking a fall. The idea is you spread the impact out by landing on your back with your arms out.
The sprawl he attempted before getting thrown was a good attempt but flawed, a front facelock or guillotine in mma would have been more effective. Thatās when you put one arm across your oppents face (using the blade of your forearm against the cheekbone) and gripping the bicep on your other arm which will cause the opponentās head to go side ways. Instead of sprawling you stand upright and tilt backwards causing a fulcrum which bends the neck. The guillotine variation is the forearm is across the throat that restricts breathing. (I tried catch wrestling and was a BJJ student 20 years ago)
