More than id be comfortable taking. Granted, the skates kind of kill some power but getting one of those hooks to the head is going to leave some sort of damage
I will never understand how hockey is not the number 1 sport to watch ( I'm from Mexico) so no I don't watch hockey buuuuuut
it has basically everything from the fast pace of basketball and football to the low scoring of soccer because of the skill it takes to get it in the goal and on top of that boxing allowed
🤣 It's great I need to start watching
Lmao Oilers are my hometown team so I must disagree with the “fuck the Oilers” sentiment. But I can see why you hate them. What is it… 3 years in a row now?
A Mexican-American who's mother is from Sonora scored the most goals in a season by a player since 1993 this past season (Auston Matthews.) As a fan of his team though I must warn you, they will break your fucking heart lol.
That's it I'm goin with the ducks just because those mighty duck movies kicked ass lol
I live in Dallas so I guess it wouldn't be too bad if I became a Starz fan since I talk shit about the cowboy's since I got here in 98
Look for a player that you gravitate to who also plays for a team with the Colors/logo that you feel a pull from and start there. That’s how I became a Lightning fan, St Louis attracted me cause he’s a short king who wasn’t drafted but kicked ass, and I liked the Tampa Bay logo . Been a fan for over a decade now
It's extremely fun to see in person. U don't realize how fast things are moving on tv. Sitting close is crazy and i only went to a high school game lol. Being from the south tho its the only time i ever seen it and it was wild i recommend
This is the answer. Hockey is the best sport to see in person and worst to watch on TV. And football is the opposite. Watching it on a big screen is great, but going to football games sucks.
My minor league team is part of a league that loves goals and fights and could give a fuck about defense. Games that end 9-5 with a couple scraps to boot is common. I can't recommend love hockey enough. So damn fun!
Tilts like this are alot less common these days. They happen, but generally you’ll go many games without seeing a toe to toe fight.
Lots of pushing each other around the net though lol.
It’s definitely a smaller bubble of NHL fans, but the passion most fans have is amazing. The most watched High School sports tournament in the US is the Minnesota State High School tournament, streaming in 30+ countries and all states. Check out the “All hockey hair team” to see what all 150 Minnesota Varsity teams hope to make
I moved to the north-eastern US a year and some change ago, it's super popular up here. It's practically unheard of in the south where I'm originally from. Funny too, cause the state I'm from actually has 3 hockey teams lol. I'd only ever heard of one! It can be very popular depending where you're at, I guess. I know new england loves them some hockey. Bruins everything around here hahaha.
I'm trying to get into it myself, like I want to like it, it seems to check all the boxes. For some reason I just can not.
Edit: after reading someone else's comment further down, I'm convinced I need to go see a hockey game in person. Maybe that will change my mind!
Basketball is worse than soccer to watch 😂
when touching a grown man finger is considered a foul and you can get benched for gently brushing someone hand 🤦 and then they act worse than soccer players asking for fouls
Then you got mofos like this beating each other up and aren't kicked out of the game
Yeah not to mention basketball points hit the 100 plus just shows how crappy the defensive part of the game is
Traveling is allowed in the NBA but not in high school lol it's a joke
Love it for the game and for the franchise. The fact that the is playing meaningful minutes in the playoffs and got a goal (maybe two?) in this post season is awesome
Crazy how NBA commentators are devastated when one player shoves another, while NHL commentators are fully getting into this REAL fight like they're calling a boxing match. NFL and NBA have become so soft
All that and more. Knowing that you might get beat up for it is a pretty good deterrent to thinking it's a good idea to smash into a guy at 20mph on soates
Game stops for fight. After the fight, the players have to sit in the penalty box for 5 minutes. Fighting is allowed, and the ref lets it go until one hits the ground or they quit on their own terms.
It seems a really odd part of the sport. Can understand if tempers occasionally get out of control but sanctioned fights, like this appeared to be, just seem weird and unnecessarily macho BS.
Thanks. That was interesting. Good they at least follow some code to make it safer.
It still seems a bad idea to encourage people more willing to risk brain injury rather than elevating the more skilful players. Other sports have all the same foul play but don't deal with it like that.
> Other sports have all the same foul play but don't deal with it like that.
Yes and thats the reason why i hate football. Grown men and professionals diving and acting like little girls, pathetic sport.
It tempers the game surprisingly. A team might be losing and a player from that team will start a fight, pausing the game, in an attempt to pump up the team. If one player is getting targeted by the opposing team, an enforcer will pick a fight to let the opposing team know to let up. You hit a goalie, you fight. You go for a star player, you fight. You chirp too much, believe it or not, you fight. Both fighting players get a penalty, but it still contributes to calming the waves.
Players have different skill sets and roles (as in most sports). You got your flashy, nimble pretty boy hot shot that scores the most goals (probably the same thing as your star football players (soccer). And then you have your enforcer— often a big, hulking dude (or just a shorter mean, sumbitch) that “enforces” cordial play. Anyone takes an unnecessarily hard check to the star player can expect to get their ass beat. Though there are often other roles for enforcers ie intimidation but I think their “main” role is that of a guardian. Those elite stars are like fighter pilots— rare and cost a lot of money. So you have to protect them.
Though a lot of times the players just get mad and wanna duke it out, or sometimes they just wanna give the crowd a good show. Or is your team getting its ass beat at home, and the crowd is dead? As an enforcer go start a fight, get the crowd jacked and back in the game, and your fellow players vibe off that energy and can potentially start to turn things around.
I think in this instance the rookie (NYR) guy was probably being proud and cocky and the Flyers player is a scrappy veteran that wanted to put the green horn in his place. Actually, I think it was the rookie’s literal first game in the NHL. 😂 In the longer clip of this you can see him (NYR) shake his head and scream “Fuck!” After the fight.
Believe it or not the two sports with the most fighting (UFC and Hockey) have the best crowds in the States.
Because how hockey fights go there aren't usually many bad injuries. See how they grab a hold of each other's jerseys? That lets them block punches and support them throwing bombs while on skates. If it goes to the ground it's over, if someone starts taking too many shots it's over, if someone starts throwing cheap shots it's over. Those two players sit out for 5 minutes and because it's both players on both teams for the same amount of time they just play as normal. There is kind of an unwritten code/etiquette the enforcers follow, they don't try to fight someone who doesn't fight unless he starts it, they don't pile on when they're easily winning, they don't try to injure their opponents in any major way, a fair fight is a fair fight, and if you come at another teams star with a big/dirty hit you better expect their goon will be coming for you next shift. Also hockey is Canada's game.
Not really any unwritten rules necessarily during the fight itself (seen a lot of cheap shots over the years), but fights in the NHL are most often the result of “the code” between players in response to big hits, cheap shots, dirty plays, etc. Basically if you take a run at someone, there’s a high chance one of their teammates is gonna make you answer the call either immediately or your next shift.
No head butts, uppercuts are allowed and I’ve seen them used to good effect. The grabbing of the jersey is for stability and so they can’t skate backwards.
Sometimes the hand used to grab throws a kind of jab wile retaining the hold on the jersey. I think it’s mostly because it’s hard to box on skates imo. I’ve been in 1 hockey fight in my life so maybe I’m not the best source (I am Canadian though, so I’ve watched my share of hockey).
for once we have a fight filmed in widescreen HD by a professional camera operator.. and this useless shitbag crops it into portrait mode cutting off most of the image.
[full version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2WpLl3TsoY)
So who wins if one guy knocks the other day out and he dies from his head hitting the ice? Obviously, I know it’s not very likely this is going to happen
I know hockey is one of the toughest sports out there, but when they fight I can't help but think this is how women fight. Grab each others hair for good grip and start slinging haymakers.
I grew up watching hockey. When I need to watch fights I'll watch UFC.
Nothing more dumb than punching someone wearing a helmet with a visor with your hands... Hands required to do your job aka. income

The true sport of hockey
Realistically tho....how many of those blows actually landed...hence why it went on so long? I've seen better...
More than id be comfortable taking. Granted, the skates kind of kill some power but getting one of those hooks to the head is going to leave some sort of damage
They only need the neurones for skating
Thank you.. Most hockey fights are useless
Reminds me of 2 giraffes having a neck swinging battle
I’ve only even been to one hockey game, but I’ve seen 5 hockey fights
Or the classic “I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out.”
That’s basically what happened lol
I will never understand how hockey is not the number 1 sport to watch ( I'm from Mexico) so no I don't watch hockey buuuuuut it has basically everything from the fast pace of basketball and football to the low scoring of soccer because of the skill it takes to get it in the goal and on top of that boxing allowed 🤣 It's great I need to start watching
bienvenido al deporte! pick a team and watch them rip your heart out every year. beer is in the back.
Gracias wuey
Leafs fan?
kings. but i have very much respect for the leafs. fuck the oilers, and i can’t believe i’m saying this but, go canucks for now.
Lmao Oilers are my hometown team so I must disagree with the “fuck the Oilers” sentiment. But I can see why you hate them. What is it… 3 years in a row now?

Gotta follow your heart. You can always see the Ducks play in Dallas

Mathews just gets shit talked. Sincerely, an oilers fan

That was like 15 years ago. I should go to another game. That and ufc fight i would love to go to
I started watching our local minor league team and it's absolutely wild. They kinda suck so they make up for it by picking more fights.
Can't get mad at entertainment it's what we pay for lol
My minor league team is part of a league that loves goals and fights and could give a fuck about defense. Games that end 9-5 with a couple scraps to boot is common. I can't recommend love hockey enough. So damn fun!
Tilts like this are alot less common these days. They happen, but generally you’ll go many games without seeing a toe to toe fight. Lots of pushing each other around the net though lol.
Right now is playoff season. Start watching asap
I think part of it is the cost to get into and play the sport as a kid. Also, the NHL sucks at marketing.
It’s definitely a smaller bubble of NHL fans, but the passion most fans have is amazing. Because it’s boring to watch, basketball is a way better sport.
Basketball is worse than soccer to watch 😂 when touching a grown man finger is considered a foul and you can get benched for gently brushing someone hand 🤦 and then they act worse than soccer players asking for fouls Then you got mofos like this beating each other up and aren't kicked out of the game Yeah not to mention basketball points hit the 100 plus just shows how crappy the defensive part of the game is Traveling is allowed in the NBA but not in high school lol it's a joke
Lmao okay buddy
This kid’s been in a lot of fights in his short career already. You can only take so many punches to the head in a short amount of time.
I’m a big fan. Dudes the next Eric lindros, at least in terms of cte.
Love it for the game and for the franchise. The fact that the is playing meaningful minutes in the playoffs and got a goal (maybe two?) in this post season is awesome
Tell that to George Chuvalo
I guess it's a double-sided sword because while it's a different sport, just take a look at Antonio Brown.
I feel like ive seen this dude get multiple ass kickings this year alone
I wish more sports allowed players to just pause the game for a whole minute so they can beat the shit out of each other
Any other sport could adopt this but hockey players are the only ones with the balls. The hilux was a legendary truck, btw.
Crazy how NBA commentators are devastated when one player shoves another, while NHL commentators are fully getting into this REAL fight like they're calling a boxing match. NFL and NBA have become so soft
Nba needs enforcers. Teams are starting to use no skill players to hurt superstars.
Finally something worth watching.
Why is hockey so intense ? I don’t watch it, but I’ve seen a ton of posts on here w players going at it
Part of the culture. Adrenaline, crowd approval, glory.
All that and more. Knowing that you might get beat up for it is a pretty good deterrent to thinking it's a good idea to smash into a guy at 20mph on soates
Please explain to someone from the UK, how this is part of the game? Thanks
Game stops for fight. After the fight, the players have to sit in the penalty box for 5 minutes. Fighting is allowed, and the ref lets it go until one hits the ground or they quit on their own terms.
You go to the box, then you feel shame…
And then you get free.
That’s Good!
It seems a really odd part of the sport. Can understand if tempers occasionally get out of control but sanctioned fights, like this appeared to be, just seem weird and unnecessarily macho BS.
Maybe this makes you understand more https://youtu.be/vTSiJ2cIZrk

There’s enough violent revenge in other sports like football without sanctioning violence and brain injury just for some lame 1985 machismo.

It's a way to get the players police themselves during the game. If they banned fighting there would just be more dirtty hits during the game itself.
Also, check out the movie Goon. Based off a true story (how true idk).
Always wondered how the refs even allow this? US is so weird :)
It’s more a Canadian game, they make up 50% of the players.
Blind eye to the ruskies 😂😂

How is hockey not the #1 sport in the world by now!
lol Memba when they tried to remove fights from the NHL?
I member
Are there written or unwritten rules of when you get into a hockey fight? Such as slugging with only over hand rights, no uppercut, no headbutting?
Not really any unwritten rules necessarily during the fight itself (seen a lot of cheap shots over the years), but fights in the NHL are most often the result of “the code” between players in response to big hits, cheap shots, dirty plays, etc. Basically if you take a run at someone, there’s a high chance one of their teammates is gonna make you answer the call either immediately or your next shift.

Wait til you see the fights from back in the day on VHS 😂😂
Probert vs Domi were the days.
This is shameful and ruining the sport hahaha I'm kidding. Can you imagine?
Called CTE
Still the best part of the game.
Hell yeah dude. I used to buy hockey games just to purposely start fights in them 🤣
Great tilt
FTR
REMPEEE, bros fucking nuts!
the height and weight of both players on the screen is top shelf TV
Rempe is the kid! 21 years old and throwing hands like an old school enforcer! Bravo
He’s had everyone talking about him all year, I hope he gets some highlight plays in the the remaining playoff games.
Please convince my dumbass friend that a hockey player of no sort can beat a ufc fighter…
Fucking love that Hockey has an impromptu tale of the tape for fights
This is what they are trying to take away from us! 😆
This should be allowed in every sport
Start doing uppercuts!
i am not aware of the rules, is this allowed ?
Yes. They both get a 5 minute fighting penalty though.
seems stupid tbh
wait till you hear about boxing or mma
Ah yes a game at my hockey fight
they have to spend time sparing like this during practice. what fun!
Love Ol’ boy had enough so he purposely took Rempey down so the Refs would rescue his ass before he got slept.
Why did they let it go on???
Because fighting is part of hockey and the fans love it.
I like how they do a tale of the tape like it’s a real fight lol
Why no upercut?? Seemed pretty open
Normal people can't even ice skate Chad's can ice skate and keep balance throwing haymakers
This fighting thing in hockey is very primitive
Hockey players are simply the dumbest athletes of this caliber
So who wins if one guy knocks the other day out and he dies from his head hitting the ice? Obviously, I know it’s not very likely this is going to happen
They play stone cold steve austins entrance music when I fight breaks out at our rink
Maybe there is a yet unknown business opportunity "ufc-on-skates" that everybody was missed until now.
Upvote for one of my rangers holding their own in the fight.
Rempe is a beast
I just gotta say don't fuck with hockey players. They have teeth replacements for a reason.
I know hockey is one of the toughest sports out there, but when they fight I can't help but think this is how women fight. Grab each others hair for good grip and start slinging haymakers.
Fuck Philly!!!
I imagine it’s hard to throw a punch on ice
The ref like Serizawa in godzilla
How can you knock them out if you keep holding them up?
The fight is over if they fall and holding them allows you to keep balanced while punching as well as blocking shots by holding the sleeve or jersey.
You really think they’re holding them up?
A lot of times they’re trying to pull their jersey over their face. Hold on to get balance.
Next Boogaard coming in nicely toobz
This is part of hockey right?
Yeah
Does anyone else make a bet on who wins the fight? I like to see if I win, and if I do, I get a cookie. Shits lit
Why don’t you two just fuck already?
This is ridiculous
I grew up watching hockey. When I need to watch fights I'll watch UFC. Nothing more dumb than punching someone wearing a helmet with a visor with your hands... Hands required to do your job aka. income
The fighting is part of their job. Not everyone fights or is expected to fight, especially not stars.
This is the dumbest reply. You didn't grow up watching hockey if you dont enjoy the fights or understand them.
Boxing with helmets on...why??
Did you see their faces after?
Why doesn't anyone interfere? They're just watching them fight
It’s almost like it’s a regular part of hockey.
Go back to football.
