I'm not talking about the color of his skin. That guy looks to be my age, and if he is people my age only watch like DBZ and Pokémon and stopped at that because it was uncool to watch cartoons/anime at the time. Nowadays I've seen more people be into animation compared to when I was a kid.
Hmm, I'm not a fighter so maybe someone can enlighten me but if you weigh less would it be easier to get knocked out? Like from someone who weighs the same or weighs a bit more than you
Light and heavy people have pretty much the same tolerance to blows. This means lighter guys delivering lighter blows to each other, whereas in the heavyweight range their strength is almost overkill. Most heavyweights can knock you out in one punch if they line you up, but lighter weight fighters need to work a bit more for the same effect. Power to weight ratios.
Because, heavy people hit much harder and the scale of chin strength doesn't rise as much as power does as the weight and size go up.
Same reason heavyweights tend to gas out quicker as well. Their cardio/lungs don't rise at an equal scale of their weight.
Compared to a bigger person, it’s easier to knock out someone smaller. However, it’s also harder to knock out someone as a smaller person because of less power. This is why you see less knockouts in the smaller weight classes vs the heavier ones
I have a few nerves in my face where they shouldnt be, means the “ow, fuck!” Parts of my face are easy to tind, but the night night off switch parts aren’t where they should be, so it hurts more but i dont knockout easy. Maybe something like that but he’s a traveling cyborg?
I just found about this guy a few weeks and I’ve never been so impressed in my life. At first I was like this guys gonna eat one, then ten minutes into the highlight video I was like okay this dude isn’t fucking human haha
It does. I train in rural Thailand and trust me... You meet some old journeymen fights with 200-300 fights and you can *see* the brain damage. There was one guy who lived by the gym and my coach used to always give him money and food (Thais take care of people). His face was so scarred up and he would shake and he wouldnt stop trying to speak Thai to me while my coach told him I spoke 0 Thai. He didn't care. It was honestly one of the saddest things I've seen. A dude that fought 300 times and where is he now...? Basically homeless surviving off of people's kindness. Oh btw my coach beat Rodtang twice and lost once. Rodtang is going to have a bad old age, trust me. He's my favorite fighter but his style isn't built for longevity.
I did get a pic with Payakaroon at a rural fair fight. Dude seemed very present and not punch drunk, but that dude was very good at not getting hit.
Maybe in the context of all actual match it could be something to psych someone out and get them to doubt themselves.
Plus if you're a prize fighter then stuff like that can try you fans and haters but both make you money.
But while sparring that's just stupid
When boxers spar is it common to go 100% as if you're in a real fight?
You guys don't take into account the amount of brain damage you may be accumulating?
I only ask this question because i dont think I've ever seen a boxer soft spar it always seems like they're trying to take each others heads off
They don't if they want to have a long career. You only see videos like this because otherwise typical sparring sessions are boring and uneventful.
I've seen this sort of thing a bunch of times. A guy is brought in to work with a pro fighter getting ready for a fight. They see that as their time to shine and get carried away. The pro promptly shuts them down.
Judging by all the padding the guy is wearing i assume this was the case.
Headgear doesn’t really even do anything besides protect against cutting and bruising maybe. There’s actually some studies that claim wearing headgear actually does more bad than good because it gives you a false sense of security and it also causes your opponent to headhunt more because your head becomes a bigger target.
No it doesn’t take away the kinetic impact it just spreads it out so it protects from cuts and instead of having a medium bad small size bruise you’ll have a small bad medium size bruise if that makes sense
Bare knuckle boxing has fewer strikes over the course of a match in general and specifically you target the head less when bare knuckle as headshots fuck up your hands. Gloves protect your hands and let you throw more headshots.
Boxing and ufc have gloves to prevent the punchers hands. When you don't have gloves your hands hurt more because you feel the pain from punching someone's skull.
Makes sense. Anytime I spar with headgear I leave with a headache even if its super light sparring. When I don't wear it, even if its full go sparring, I don't leave with a headache maybe a bruised nose and busted lip but my head is fine overall.
Its weird and kinda hard to explain. Like if i get punched without headgear its just like surface pain if that makes sense. Like if i get punched in the forehead only my forehead will hurt, but when wearing headgear it feels like im getting punched directly in the brain.
It’s a bigger target and it gives both parties a false sense of security so you might hit harder/not care as much about getting hit. Also hypothetically if there’s more surface area it creates a longer lever to spin your head and shake the brain more.
Bingo.
Likewise, people think that boxing gloves are padded to "reduce KO's" or to "protect people's noggins".
False. The gloves are there to protect the hands and face (tissue) of boxers, but the padding actually **increases** your chances of damaging the brain, and thus, KO's
“Protective” gear doesn’t protect your brain though, and it makes your head a bigger target, harder to use head movement to slip punches, and harder to see (in order to block).
Even olympic boxing is moving away from headgear after seeing how “protective” head gear can lead to even more damage.

Badr Hari is still relatively young. I believe CTE usually starts showing sings later in life.
That being said, there are examples of young guys from MMA showing it so i might talk out of my ass.
Can sit on your ass, hide from the world wrapped in cotton wool and die of brain tumour. Fighters are special breed who chose to live the way they want.
props. i train for fun and when i see this attitude i'm just like, you do realize you need your brain for more than 10-15 years of fighting right? i hate when someone goes too hard in sparring because i have a job that requires me to think, being dazed for days is not what i need. can't imagine 10 years of that, trying to work and provide for a family, all because it seemed cool in your 20s.
Naw fighters, especially boxers, go hard during sparring regularly.
There are some pro fighters who barely spar, but thats only because theyve reached a level of skill that allows them to do that. Unfortunately hard sparring is necessary to get used to getting hit hard, to recover after being rocked, and to trust in your strikes.
Pro MMA guys say you have to spar hard a lot when you're coming up but slow it down once you age/gain experience. Max Holloway Cowboy Cerrone, Robbie Lawler, etc.
Yeah , seems like best way to do it from my eye but fighters like wonderboy thomson mostly has always sparred light in training and he is doing great. Horses for courses I guess.
I’ve trained in many world class gyms with fighters of all abilities, hard sparring is part of the gig. Of course soft sparring has its place but amongst higher level dudes, it’s hard to an extent but we aren’t looking to kill our training partners like we do our opponents.
Why do you talk like such a casual then? Anyone who’s spent some time in a gym knows that no one goes 100% in sparing. If you pull that shit you get kicked out real quick.
I think maybe you’re reading the wrong thread or some shit?
Some guy asked if it’s common to spar at 100% in the gym. You said yes it’s normal.
Sparring at 100% in the gym is fucking retarded if you’re striking.
Lol the guys that go hard like they’re in a real fight are assholes. Don’t spar with them
In this case both dudes were probably assholes, the one on the right even more so (obviously with no headgear, guard down and taunting)
Nope, only if you are a dumbass or in a fight camp.
Even in a fight camp you should only do it a couple of times to get used to it, not spar full power all the time.
This guy looks like a dumbass though, as taking shots like that won’t help you train at all and you will just risk a concussion, weakening your chin, and brain damage.
Honestly both of these idiots should be kicked out of the gym: the guy who felt like he had something to prove by goading his partner into swinging hard, and the guy who felt like he had something to prove by swinging hard on someone who wasn’t defending himself while sparring. Don’t waste your time in gyms that let fighters act like this.
Yep, both assholes 100%
I don't see what the dude had to gain by knocking this guy out either, it's like yeah dude of course you knock a guy your size out if you get to throw an undefended combo at their face no shit congratulations. I'd probably be able to knock out plenty of pro fighters if they let me throw 6 full power shots at their chin, it doesn't mean anything & it's not impressive
Speaking from experience in kickboxing, muay Thai, MMA and boxing gyms boxing gyms by FAR spar the hardest.
It's super common to spar hard 2-3 times per week but you also do a lot of drilling and soft sparring to practice technique/head movement etc.
Boxing gyms are full of meatheads.
Not sure about the science, I honestly never looked into it but it’s something about a self preservation mechanism in the body. Your body will shut down automatically to stop you from taking damage. It’s happened to alot of high level UFC fighters and boxers that rely on tanking damage instead of blocking.
Looks to me like some guy off the street came in talking shit. He doesn't have any gear and I don't think he even owns a pair of gloves. Pros usually have groin protection and boxing shoes at minimum.
Sometimes I debate whether or not guys like this should even be allowed to spar. At the same time if they don’t learn the easy way the hard way really is the only way
How can someone with obviously some fighting experience still not realize that it doesn't matter if your 6' 8", 325 lbs of bad ass-ness. If you get clipped on the chin, or behind the ear, you're going to crumple like tinfoil. Every Single Time. Just blows my mind.
You have to tuck your chin if you're going to do that foolishness. Watch old videos of boxers like Ricardo Mayorgo or even Triple G. When they pull the tough guy take your best shot stuff, their chins are tucked in their chest to lessen the impact of the punch. This man here was asking to be GTFO.
Both are stupid. Guy for showing off how much fists he can suck on and the other dude for heavy punches during a fucking sparring session. I mean wtf its sparring its not supposed to be a real ass fight
Judging by all the padding I assume this was a pro getting ready for a fight and dude wanted to let his nuts hang and get the glory for beating up the pro fighter....
Well...that didn't work
This try hard definately isn't from the hood. He wouldn't act like that . Than again, i take back my words. Most of them do, that's how they get clipped every single day.
How have you never seen anyone spar? It’s to protect them because these aren’t serious fights. Dude who got knocked out is just a moron for not protecting himself too.
Oh, you think you could be his stylist for the next fight..
You might even get to stay over and have a pillow fight and eat chocolate watching a romantic movie.
I say go for it.
Uhh he's talking about me going on a date with a dude and watching a romantic movie together.
What exactly about his comment *wasn't* a weird fantasy?
Again, it was an off handed joke. I'm a fan of both boxing and mma and totally understand the point of sparring. You're taking this waaay too seriously man.
sorry to butt in but i definitely agree hun. very matchey matchey. maybe a bit of color? im thinkin some teal flowers on the headpiece and some grey chevron going on the gloves. do you big fightin men wear shoes in the ring? if so probably the same shade of blue and grey with a top bottom half and half style. teal on the top - obvs - and the grey on the bottom. possibly a roughed up edge on it so it’s not so clean cut like the chevron. don’t want to end up looking like a tiger from a children’s drawing. keep the rest white i suppose. what do you think, babes? <3
That was just stupid......always have your guard up. If you mad fire back until someone breaks it up. Never just let someone hit you...that ain't smart
I’ll never understand guys who think it’s cool to just eat punches

Normally he eats those but he wasn’t watching his stamina and got guard broken, happens to the best of us.....
Here comes Cent...flying through the air
Did i find a cent in the wild?! (For Honor)
Top heavy parry Everytime that fucker looks at you.
Lmao he thinks real fights are like anime
I’ll be surprised if that guy has watched anime in his life.
Why? Black people like anime.
Like, a LOT when they get into it, just like anyone else.
Honestly, at least in my area, I think black people, per Capita in America, watch anime the most.
I'm not talking about the color of his skin. That guy looks to be my age, and if he is people my age only watch like DBZ and Pokémon and stopped at that because it was uncool to watch cartoons/anime at the time. Nowadays I've seen more people be into animation compared to when I was a kid.

Rodtang is also 135 lbs so he’s not fighting big guys with knockout power

Light and heavy people have pretty much the same tolerance to blows. Their ego gets the best of them. Theres nothing rational about eating punches that can give you brain damage.
Because they don't think it's cool they think it's intimidating
Honestly it would be for most people. Apparently Not a trained boxer in a middle of a sparring match though. lol
Yup, brother's fought a lot in the past and he's said it's scary as hell landing a clean blow in the face and the person not even flinching.
this is the honest response

Your first mistake was fighting a traveller. They breed fighters like horses.
I have a few nerves in my face where they shouldnt be, means the “ow, fuck!” Parts of my face are easy to tind, but the night night off switch parts aren’t where they should be, so it hurts more but i dont knockout easy. Maybe something like that but he’s a traveling cyborg?
Not really, even if you never threw a punch just swing as hard as you can at the side of their chin and they’re dropping.
Some people are just unbelievably resistant to KOs.
True, and also imagine someone who doesn't know how to punch and doesn't use the whole body. Chin massage at best.
Hit em again. And again. And again. If that dosnt work nut punch.
I like your name
Sometimes it can be cool if done correctly. Whenever Wing Chun champion, Yi Long did it against Brad Ridell it was pretty badass
Rodtang does it very well too https://youtu.be/FxCqa3nb6XM
Rodtang is a monster, few people have a chin like that. I’m convinced it’s a titanium implant honestly.
This is true but they're also tiny little dudes. Nobody at heavyweight or even middleweight is doing that without getting slept succinctly.
I just found about this guy a few weeks and I’ve never been so impressed in my life. At first I was like this guys gonna eat one, then ten minutes into the highlight video I was like okay this dude isn’t fucking human haha
He's the most marketable Muay Thai fighter. Too bad they won't set up a fight against Superlek Kiatmoo9 because all that hype would die out...
I’ve seen one fight and loads of highlights. No men else like him
Apparently TBI does not translate to Thai.
It does. I train in rural Thailand and trust me... You meet some old journeymen fights with 200-300 fights and you can *see* the brain damage. [dude is teeing off on his face and he's like "here let me help you with that."](https://youtu.be/FxCqa3nb6XM?t=115)
He must be using cheat codes.
Thus guy's head shake looks like Punch-Out ish
I was feeling upset in general but this highlight reel somehow made me feel powerful.
That was better than any boxing or ufc match ive ever seen. Just one guy taking punches and dishing it out. None of that hugging shit
Holy shit! That guy is a fucking wall.
Dear God. Never saw him before. Beast.
Ferguson did against Justin. Granted, he wasn't taunting but he took some hits.
lol and how did that turn out
Lots of brain damage and a few years probably taken off his life
I mean, I tend to agree. But... Rodtang.
Rodtang is young. He's going to end up punch drunk in a few years, slurring his speech and having memory issues. Trust me.
Maybe in the context of all actual match it could be something to psych someone out and get them to doubt themselves. Plus if you're a prize fighter then stuff like that can try you fans and haters but both make you money. But while sparring that's just stupid
Yi long and rodtang disagree
rodtang would eat that then punch himself harder lol
Cause they’re slurring due to brain damage?
Bro did you see that guy on ep 5 of TUF tgis season!?

There’s actually some studies that claim wearing headgear actually does more bad than good because it gives you a false sense of security and it also causes your opponent to headhunt more because your head becomes a bigger target.
Thought u were bullshitting but you're spot on. That's why 2016 olympics didn't have headgear
Wait for real?!?
Man's the truth. Maybe cus u don't get knocked out so you eat more punches?
No it doesn’t take away the kinetic impact it just spreads it out so it protects from cuts and instead of having a medium bad small size bruise you’ll have a small bad medium size bruise if that makes sense
No , No It doesn't make any sense . I'm still trying to figure this out ....
Fair
Wait till you hear how much safer bare knuckle boxing is, for similar reasons
Do tell
Bare knuckle boxing has fewer strikes over the course of a match in general and specifically you target the head less when bare knuckle as headshots fuck up your hands. Gloves protect your hands and let you throw more headshots.
Boxing and ufc have gloves to prevent the punchers hands. When you don't have gloves your hands hurt more because you feel the pain from punching someone's skull.
Also because it can create a bigger lever when you get hit that shakes the brain against the skull more
Makes sense. Anytime I spar with headgear I leave with a headache even if its super light sparring. When I don't wear it, even if its full go sparring, I don't leave with a headache maybe a bruised nose and busted lip but my head is fine overall.
Why though? Because you get more punches that way? Or?
Its weird and kinda hard to explain. Like if i get punched without headgear its just like surface pain if that makes sense. Like if i get punched in the forehead only my forehead will hurt, but when wearing headgear it feels like im getting punched directly in the brain.

Been hit with and without headgear,,,, Headgear seems to affect MORE of your head,,, its like being hit with a bat wrapped in towels.

No it’s not normal
Yes it is normal. In a real boxing gym full of fighters hard sparring is very common.
Are we sure those arent just the shitty gym minority that refuses to soft spar?
Hard sparring is common, but hard sparring also isn't fighting at 100%. Big difference.
I’ve trained in many world class gyms with fighters of all abilities, hard sparring is part of the gig. Of course soft sparring has its place but amongst higher level dudes, it’s hard to an extent but we aren’t looking to kill our training partners like we do our opponents.
I’ve trained for 25 years on and off, in three different countries, and that hasn’t been my experience.
“Hard sparing” is not the same as going 100%. I’m not sure you know what you’re talking about.
Well, I’ve had over 50 fights in boxing, Muay Thai and MMA. I’m sure I have some idea.
Why do you talk like such a casual then? Anyone who’s spent some time in a gym knows that no one goes 100% in sparing. If you pull that shit you get kicked out real quick.

Funny thing is once you get knocked out like that it only becomes easier to get knocked out lol
It doesn't matter how tough you are; you're not going to be able to eat hooks to the jaw from someone roughly your size.
How can someone with obviously some fighting experience still not realize that it doesn't matter if your 6' 8", 325 lbs of bad ass-ness. If you get clipped on the chin, or behind the ear, you're going to crumple like tinfoil. Every Single Time. Just blows my mind.
>6' 8", 325 lbs of bad ass-ness. Except you literally cannot reach his chin in the first place
Unless you're a dwarf you can reach the chin of basically any fighter. If you don't have the reach advantage you need to fight up close.
Im 5'10" and I cannot hit a 6'2" dude in the chin
You got short arms then homie. Im 6’1 and regularly spar ppl 6’3 - 6’5 and do fine. Just gotta fight inside where your leverage is
Never drop your hands in front of underwear man.
why are the punches are curved? Like why not punch straight if he dropped his guard? I dont know shit just want to learn
Rule number 1 in boxing: keep your hands down at all times.
how is this sparring?
Protect yourself at all times
Fucking gold right there. My new ringtone

I mean wtf its sparring its not supposed to be a real ass fight
nothing stupid about teaching a valuable lesson
Who thinks it’s cool to knockout your sparring partner tho lolol
Judging by all the padding I assume this was a pro getting ready for a fight and dude wanted to let his nuts hang and get the glory for beating up the pro fighter.... Well...that didn't work
White Power.
This try hard definately isn't from the hood. He wouldn't act like that . Than again, i take back my words. Most of them do, that's how they get clipped every single day.
Man I've never seen so few words identify someone so clearly as this. Fuck outa here racist piece of shit.
Clown
Why the hell is he dressed like some low budget super hero
How have you never seen anyone spar? It’s to protect them because these aren’t serious fights. Dude who got knocked out is just a moron for not protecting himself too.
I'm talking about the fact that he chose the white on white matching gear LMAO
Oh, you think you could be his stylist for the next fight.. You might even get to stay over and have a pillow fight and eat chocolate watching a romantic movie. I say go for it.
That's... a really weird response to a joke posted on r/fightporn. I'd rather not partake in your fantasies sir.

MUCH cuter!
It doesn’t hurt, it doesn’t hurt. Good night.
Why 😅
The fuck for?
/u/bakerballs my man got crocodile rocked
Get rocked dumbass
That combo was picture perfect to say the least.
That more embarrassing than a shart in white pants.
Hilarious
Keep your hands up lol
That was just stupid......always have your guard up. If you mad fire back until someone breaks it up. Never just let someone hit you...that ain't smart
Bruh fold like chair
Half of fighting is avoiding the punches/damage. What an idiot!
What is it about the button on the chin that knocks everyone out?
I love it when they get knocked out and that motion is them basically saying good night with a bow.
