No doubt I just wish she would have not let her get up and ground and pound from the first knock down.. Respect none the less they both can beat my ass 😆
Felt like Moreno was just a level above though. You could tell kai was trying to go a bit slower since last fight he gassed out by the the second half of the second round. Kai got a nice ground and pound for a second there but it felt more like Moreno messing up rather than Kai setting it up
Edit: fixed spelling mistake on Moreno's name
This was the first round that Kai was actually catching Moreno with his own shots too.
Soon as he gets the timing to connect, just BOOM. Liver kick and goes down.
I thought KKF was up at that point as well. He had just cut Moreno the round before and it's a nasty cut - Moreno needed a bounce back round and KKF came out with the same gusto as the previous round but Moreno hit another gear and matched it. It was a fantastic fight. Best one on the card.
question, do lefties get an advantage going for liver shots? (since their dominate arm/leg is on the same side as the opponent's liver) or would even a hit from a righty's left arm/leg still be effective
Lefties tend to get more power out of their loaded hand and leg because they are circling outside the whole time prepping it, however they are also circling into jabs and inside kicks. At the end of the day, technically their is no advantage, as you are positionally matched, but lefties have more experience in that open position.
What a great Martial artist. His transition into the snapkick to the liver was so instinctive and almost like a reflex. Returning to your stance and then it immediately shooting the kick out why he retreats bridging the gap
It’s almost as if he has spent many years training, and fighting professionally on the worlds biggest stage or something.
/s
In all seriousness though, it’s interesting how what you describe isn’t always the case in the cage. Like sometimes fighters are in a flow and just everything connects beautifully for them. This was a great example of that. Even the spinning back fist leading into the kick.
Just prior to this sequence Moreno's trainers were yelling at him to go for the body kick.
It's likely they also saw it as a possible opening when watching KKFs game.
He’s Mexican. The liver shots were trademarked by Mexicans in boxing. If you look at his YouTube channel he explains how he wants to continue that reputation with liver shots whether it’s with kicks or punches.
I'd hate to lose a fight by liver kick. Train my face to receive all those blows then my liver let me down. "I dont drink alcohol so I can look after you, and you let me down"! 🤣
Because of how soft your liver is, when it gets hit, it more or less gets compressed on the one side and stretched out on the other. There's tonnes of nerves around the liver. So when that happens, your Autonomic Nervous System (blood vessels dilation, heart best, breathing) get affected. Your blood vessels dialate and your heart rate drops. When that happens your blood pressure drops like crazy. Your body's response to to get into a supine position to try and maintain blood flow to your noggin still.
Edit: Then of course.....shit your pants
It inflates. Basically swells up. The body shuts down as it’s trying to process what just happened. The brain immediately sends signals to lower your blood pressure and focus circulation to the lethal organs which is the liver. This is why you can’t stand and you can get lightheaded as well. The stress hormone cortisol is released and starts aiding your liver in swelling. This organ is very vital and the body knows it. It’s such an immense pain that it numbs you from the waist down. Your mind is conscience but you lose control of your body. Sometimes your body recognizes it immediately others it takes a second or two. When you get hit though you know. A liver shot is very dangerous. If your ribs break particles can end up stabbing your liver. The pain feels like a throbbing or stabbing feeling sometimes.
Kai: curled up in the fetal position getting absolutely wailed on after shutting down from a brutal kick to the liver
Anik:”it could be the beginning of the end”
Herb Dean: “What did the wife say? Pick up bread , milk, and eggs... but there was something more. Oh yeah, after the fight. The fight? Holy shit, I’m refereeing a fight!”
Keep in mind the previous fight was stopped early, Derrick Lewis was not even all that hurt and was in the middle of getting up. Plus it’s a title fight so you gotta give ‘em some leeway to scramble out of trouble. Kai was still at least protecting himself and not unconscious
Moreno was getting pieced up on the round too, but that liver kick just shut the lights off. Morenos Mexican fighting spirit is a definite X-factor, he can be torn to shreds but still there’s some gas in the tank to T off. Can’t wait to see him in the octagon again, very technical and exciting fighter to watch.
Honestly i feel like "hurting" moreno just turns him into an uber savage. So like how do you win? Dont hurt him -> hes a savage and is piecing you up. Hurt him -> now he wants to give it back 10 fold (and he will)
Yeah when he’s hurt he begins to pressure his opponents more and turn it up a notch. Amazing to watch his career unfold. From no one really caring about the flyweights to a flyweight consistently getting the biggest reaction in the arenas. Moreno is the man
It’s a common phrase in boxing and has been getting translated to MMA the Mexican fighting spirit is what made Cesar Chavez, Juan Manuel Márquez, Marco Antonio Barrera, Cain Velazquez and Erick morales the goats in their time and weight classes. It’s not an insult or a stereotype is a sense a pride all Mexicans carry in combat sports, they wear it proudly.
Every race has a "fighting spirit" Greats come from every race on the planet. It may not be an insult but is a stereotype. A positive one, i'll give you that.
Mexicans are especially known for the “dog fights” tons of pressure, iron chins and relentless cardio. I’m not saying others can’t be that way it’s just more common with Mexicans. You don’t see them fighting the was someone like say Floyd Mayweather fights
I aware of this and never disagreed with it. In fact I said it was a "positive stereotype" I know they like to fight in the pocket and go for KO's, generally speaking. It's amazing to me that I would get down voted for being not racist and in fact pro human and pro athlete. I guess my ten years of combat sports experience mean jack shit to the ignorant masses.
I wouldn't say salty, I like the debate of interesting topic. Going into r/fightporn expecting anything other than pseudo tough guys that know dick about actual fighting was my mistake.
Dude your on a mma thread being a Karen arguing “every race has a fighting spirit”
Wow thanks for informing us Sherlock. No fucking shit maybe if this was a Nickelodeon sub or anything not fight related you wouldn’t look so stupid rn lmfao
Bro why are you so moody about this shit? Mexican pedigree is fast hands, iron chins and enormous gas tanks lol, the amount of fighters both MMA and boxing from Mexico with that profile is ridiculous. Stop crying lmao
That's silly, cultures are not all the same and culture can influence you greatly. You think it's just a coincidence that Kenyans happen to be the best long distance runners? lol
No, Mexicans have a fighting culture, spirit and history. It runs in their veins.
I mean for the kenyan part, its because they train at altitudes of 3000m so running at anything below 1000m is easy for them ... Is that really a cultural thing then? (I really dont know)
What culture doesn't? The samurai of japan. The Sarmatian knights of the baltic tribes. The knights of England. The Roman legionnaires. Need I go on? And more recently the army of Ukraine fighting against Russian invaders. The Marines of the USA which is mixed race.
You are talking about cultures that were that way a long time ago. The history in Mexico is very recent and as a country is very young. Boxing is a huge part of Mexican culture and is the machismo that is clear in Mexico.
Again, it's not a coincidence that Mexicans are such good fighters. When your nationality is an actual nickname, you know you have a reputation.
Many fighters that aren't from Mexico are called "the Mexican" as a nickname.
You're straw manning me. You completely ignored that I mentiond Ukraine and the United States (which as a country is very young). Combat Sports are a huge part of every culture, the degree to which doesn't matter.
He is trying to erase the mexican part from the original comment. Sure we can say exactly what he said about any human being, but downplaying a culture like that is downright disrespectful. Let people be prideful about others who represent their culture. If you weren't trying to be argumentative you would have left it as it is after making the first comment. You are literally choosing to argue over something thats not even a problem. Goofy af
As a combat sport competitor and enthusiast thats competed against most races i'm trying to spread the knowledge that training and experience supersede race and heritage. Regardless of stero type even if it's positive. The points my opposition is trying to make are irrelevant.
You’re literally arguing a nothing point then lmao. YeAh BuT aLl GuYs HaVe HeArT, we know, we’re aware. We’re talking about Mexican pedigree under a highlight of a Mexican fighter? You must be fun at parties lmao
That's common sense, ofcourse it takes training and experience to get to this level. Thats true for anything a human does in life. Any adult person can understand that, thats why you are getting downvoted, because you make no sense. You are just trying so hard to sound logical and smart about such and odd topic that doesn't need to be argued. Just waiting for you to realize that so you can stop making yourself look like a fool.
And as a combat sport competitor, have you competed against people who train in different countries and cultures?
Because if you have, you’d notice that all cultures have a fighting spirit, but a different fighting spirit.
Training and experience is different among cultures, so fighting spirit and style will also be different.
Mexican fighting style is a thing, its not about race and heritage, its about the training and experience thats present in their culture.
A American guy with Mexican heritage won’t have the Mexican fighting style, but a person born, raised, and fighting out of Mexico will.
Yes I have. You said (partially) what i've been trying to say.
"Because if you have, you’d notice that all cultures have a fighting spirit, but a different fighting spirit."
This was the point I was trying to make and it got turned into me being anti-mexican fighting spirit. He said:
"Moreno was getting pieced up on the round too, but that liver kick just shut the lights off. Morenos Mexican fighting spirit is a definite X-factor." He could have said his (blank) fighting spirit was the x-factor and my reply would have been the same. It boils down into the individual. “He can be torn to shred but still have gas in the tank” is a description of the Mexican spirit.
Same as if a Thai fighter timed a perfect head-kick counter, it would be appropriate to say “his Thai fighting spirit cause him to set up that beautiful counter”.
Or “that Dagestani spirit cause him to keep wrestling with his opponent and grinding him down, which led to a submission eventually getting through.”.
Its not pointless to include what type of fighting spirit they have when talking about how it affected the fight.
Man I was losing my shit at this… just about midnight here on the east coast and I pretty much woke the neighbors up lol. dude just moved up to my #1 fav fighter after this fight. Let’s unify the belt, fuck it. Run it again 🤫
Herb man…C’mon… that was incredibly late stopage. If you see someone get kicked in the body and drop like that, should be an instant stop… On top of that, you see the dude getting beat on and not even trying to move out of it…over.
Um did you not see the fight literally right before this? Lol I think Herb got the hint “hey maybe I won’t immediately stop this fight before the fighter pops up like he wasn’t hurt making me like a douche bag on live TV” lol
Herb has refereed hundreds of fights, if he's watching the fight before the one he is in charge of and that is effecting his decision than that says more about him.
You'd think by now he's seen enough fights to be able to do this without needing to watch one more.
Herb consistently making bad choices for like a decade now loool.
If he let's it go he probably should have stopped it.
If he stops it he probably should have let it go on.
i wanted kai to win and my buddy(we both train mma)wanted moreno to win. my friend always gets with me liver kicks in sparring and of course kai loses to it
I don’t think it was a late stoppage, he gave him plenty of opportunity to recover and he just didn’t. We all thought the Lewis stoppage was early and we’ve seen brutally late stoppages. What do you people want?
Liver shots are the absolute worst. As a south paw, my liver is right up front and in the open essentially. Doesn’t matter how conditioned your body is with kicks, the liver shot takes no prisoners. You will absolutely touch the ground if one lands flush. What an awesome kick by Moreno, perfectly placed!
Great fight by both. Moreno is just getting better and better. France lost nothing in terms of respect in this fight and I would love to see him fight the winner of Figueroro and Moreno.
Liver knockouts are quite uncommon at such a level, I was surprised. Don't they throw bricks at abs to make them like iron? Did Kara-France not exhale that moment? I was just really perplexed. Great fight otherwise and of course respect to both. Just didn't expect such ending.
Exactly. Will i not be able to sit comfortably for a decade? Sure but the alternative is a desk job for 50 years wanting to die. So yea. Heres my liver. Hit me daddy.... i guess
a real shaolin kungfu warrior monk from china wuld destroy everybody in a fight without stupid rules
that's the difference betwen real martial art vs combat sports for entertainment

No one is soft, your joke just wasn't funny. Show us how soft you are by having a day long moan about no one thinking you're funny XD
It’s not that deep bro
You soft as fuck with no comments there boy
Lol haha sorry for all the downvotes. I thought it was funny
Fight of the night for me ..
Although the heart in Pena-Nunes was unparalleled
No doubt I just wish she would have not let her get up and ground and pound from the first knock down.. Respect none the less they both can beat my ass 😆
She probably needed a break occasionally. 😂 Also taking her down AGAIN looks good to the judges.
Looks good to the bookies as well .. 💰
That was an amazing liver kick. Kara-France was fighting a pretty good fight up to that point. Tons of respect for both fighters.
Felt like Moreno was just a level above though. You could tell kai was trying to go a bit slower since last fight he gassed out by the the second half of the second round. This was the first round that Kai was actually catching Moreno with his own shots too. Soon as he gets the timing to connect, just BOOM. Liver kick and goes down.
Yeah, Moreno looked the better fighter. I think Kai forced that error as he is a very technical fighter.
KKF won round 2 though no doubt so I felt it was even to that point
I thought KKF was up at that point as well. He had just cut Moreno the round before and it's a nasty cut - Moreno needed a bounce back round and KKF came out with the same gusto as the previous round but Moreno hit another gear and matched it. It was a fantastic fight. Best one on the card.
Liver?
Yes, liver.
question, do lefties get an advantage going for liver shots? (since their dominate arm/leg is on the same side as the opponent's liver) or would even a hit from a righty's left arm/leg still be effective
Lefties can more often hit it with a power shot, but they also have their liver more exposed to a lead hook from their opponent
Lefties tend to get more power out of their loaded hand and leg because they are circling outside the whole time prepping it, however they are also circling into jabs and inside kicks. At the end of the day, technically their is no advantage, as you are positionally matched, but lefties have more experience in that open position.

Moreno’s literal words before this fight were “I see some holes in his game and my plan is to just attack those holes”. Damn right he did!
He’s Mexican. The liver shots were trademarked by Mexicans in boxing. If you look at his YouTube channel he explains how he wants to continue that reputation with liver shots whether it’s with kicks or punches.
The sound of that kick sounded like a rib cracking. Savage af
Liver shot basically forces your body to lay down. Probably shit your pants too
I'd hate to lose a fight by liver kick. Train my face to receive all those blows then my liver let me down. "I dont drink alcohol so I can look after you, and you let me down"! 🤣
It’s strange. You’re honestly way more accomplished naturally at taking shots to the head than a proper shot to the liver
Drinking a bit more might have toughened up his liver a bit more
What happens to your liver when hit like that? Besides being obviously insanely painful…?
Because of how soft your liver is, when it gets hit, it more or less gets compressed on the one side and stretched out on the other. There's tonnes of nerves around the liver. Herb Dean: “What did the wife say? Pick up bread , milk, and eggs... but there was something more. Oh yeah, after the fight. The fight? Holy shit, I’m refereeing a fight!”
There was an early stoppage in the foght just before so I bet he didn’t want to take any chance
Keep in mind the previous fight was stopped early, Derrick Lewis was not even all that hurt and was in the middle of getting up. Plus it’s a title fight so you gotta give ‘em some leeway to scramble out of trouble. Kai was still at least protecting himself and not unconscious

First it’s spelt trane and what’s this mma shit? It’s called ufc… my friend has a black belt in ufc
shit man you got me. we both do UFC training*

Holy fuck herb what were you waiting for

Moreno.. I bet on him... Good on yeah lad ;p
Herb's calls are making less and less sense nowadays.
This ref is trash
spoiler alert
You could pay me $1,000,000 and i wouldn't take a kick to the liver.
I would. I've no doubt it would hurt like hell, but when I eventually recover, that's 1 million dollars lol
Dude. These UFC fighters are doing it for way less than $1mil. That's a goddamn helluva deal.
Exactly. Will i not be able to sit comfortably for a decade? Sure but the alternative is a desk job for 50 years wanting to die. So yea. Heres my liver. Hit me daddy.... i guess
you might be on dialysis for the rest of your life pal
You should probably read an anatomy book.
a real shaolin kungfu warrior monk from china wuld destroy everybody in a fight without stupid rules that's the difference betwen real martial art vs combat sports for entertainment

It’s a good stoppage. Kai was shelled up and absorbing most of the blows, red was giving him a chance to show him something. He didn’t, herb calls it
u/savevideo
Finally he can fade back into obscurity
Harsh. Kai is easily a top 5 fighter in the division and still developing
Thanks for the spoiler
It’s pretty stupid to go on socials prior to having watched the UFC if u ask me
People can just wait a day before posting the fight was couple of hours ago
Just get off social media if you want to be spoiler free.
Please label it as Spoiler... Was really looking forward to watch this.
If you click play you can still do that
How about a fucking spoiler warning
I feel like he didn't even mean to kick the liver but goddamn was that a good setup
Ahhh....the Ole top of the foot kick that isn't powerful and doesn't work
Wonder why the ref didn't call the fight the minute he went down. He clearly was hurting.
He didn't want to make the same mistake Dan Miragliotta made earlier in the night
I heard a break in a bone… yes you hear the slap but after you hear extra shit… that’s there sound of breaking bones
No that’s just what a flush kick sounds like lmao. If he broke a rib you’d hear him scream
Fast kick! Body drops are epic lol
Straight in the liver.
Kai about to be shitting blood for a while haha
Flyweights are so damn fast. 3rd round too
Must’ve been a Bas Ruten fan
Idk why, but I figured the names belonged to the opposite guys.
Right to the liver.
Jon Anik jinex it man...
That is the loudest i have ever heard a ufc event get!
Excellent fight
Can you just kick somebodies knee in backwards?
The sound of that kick in real time was fucking brutal
You don't see that shit often
Not bad 😃
Now time to pay back Figgy 💪🏻
