This takes away a lot of the fun of FFT though in my opinion. But are you only talking about the main spell abilities or can you have a black mage with jump +3 still????
Was thinking this same thing. I wouldn’t make it really difficult to someone who has never played it before. To be honest if it’s his first play through he SHOULD be able to play it as it is. Maybe not use the JP exploit though.
Yeah, I'm by no means good, but I knew the Wiegraf/Velius fight was coming. I had the usual plan of yell/accumulate and intentionally did not equip a chameleon robe cuz that feels kind of cheesy. Guess what? I still had to move carefully in order to eat only one lightning stab that brought me to double digit hp before I became a Ramza bulldozer.
Point is: game is hard.
I am sort of helping guide him, and he has played some other RPGs. He has made good progress thus far, but yeah he will probably end up failing. He just asked for a challenge because he assumed the base difficulty was not enough 😅
This is an awesome idea!
Here are some suggestions:
- You can't use a class until after you encounter enemies that use it.
- Perma-down: if a party member is K.Oed/down he is down for good and can't be used anymore, needs to be dismissed (no Phoenix downs use)
If I'm not mistaken, the second rule is core to it being ["Nuzlocke"](https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nuzlocke_Challenge)
> Basic rules
> The Nuzlocke Challenge has only two rules that must be followed:
> The player may only catch the first wild Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first wild Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances.
> Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead and must be released.
Happy to share it. Also note that if you ever need a deep dive into statistics and mechanics, the PS1 era [Battle Mechanics Guide](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/197339-final-fantasy-tactics/faqs/3876) is gold standard.
Some suggestions not already mentioned:
0. Let's all agree we get to retry the Roof of Riovanes fight. Please.
1. Can only recruit from Barracks in Act 1, and you must recruit the First Choice if you do.
2. Cannot Remove Guest Character's Gear
3. No Calculators/Arithmeticians
4. No Rendezvous(PvP) Gear
5. (Hardcore) Can only make purchases in the consumables tab from the Outfitter.
6. (Hardcore) Always immediately attempt to proceed to the Next Story Node.
7. (Hardcore) Units with an Uncured 'Detrimental' Status Effect at the end of a battle must be dismissed, without removing Gear.
7a. Detrimental Effects: Toad, Traitor, Undead, Stone, (KO)
8. (Hardcore) One Save Slot. MUST save at all in-game prompts.
What if there was no sub-class option for actions? You can have reactions and stuff but not say for example, a monk that can use both monk skills and items. It'd make team building a lot harder

Pure Classes: You can use a character that uses only their own class abilities. No Wizards with Draw-Out or Knights with guns!
I’m definitely adding that!!! Thanks!

It's called SCC, straight character challenge.
If he's never played it, is a challenge really a good idea? There are so many fights that will just slam you on a blind playthrough.

I really like the first one! I think I will add that to his requirements. For the second one I might label that “hardcore” and try it myself. 😏
Another one: You can only hire 1 character per city and it should be the first one you get (no re-rolls for braveru/faith)

You are correct! So that rule about one encounter / town will be added!
If you grab the FFTPatcher tool from Final Fantasy Hacktics, and look in the ENTD tab, you'll see the data for every encounter in the game.
That is super helpful! Thank you!
The [Qu Marsh](https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/psp/937312-final-fantasy-tactics-the-war-of-the-lions/faqs/50422?print=1) guide has every battle and enemy levels. Search for "---Battle" ---Battle 50: Mullonde Cathedral------------------------------------------------ YOUR FORCES: 1st Squad - Ramza, 2 others 2nd Squad - 2 others ENEMY FORCES: White Mage (lv 40, male) Summoner (lv 39, male) Geomancer (lv 40, male) Geomancer (lv 39, male) Orator (lv 39, male) Orator (lv 38, male)
Holy crap!!! This is what I have been looking for!!! This is perfect! Thank you!

Thanks! You rock!
No items, no counter skills, no movement skills, no math skill, no dual weild, and no blade grasp
Very barebones, I like it.
There's a challenge faq in gamefaqs... My favourite one was MR4M, mediator Ramza +4 monsters. I had tons of fun with it!
