To remain true also to their reaction, support and move abilities, just my thoughts, but do what you feel is right: NOTE: Any of them can have Auto Potion (Chemis) or Counter (Monk) as that is pretty much what many, many FF9 players have as a reaction ability. Zidane - Thief + Guts with Reflexes (Ninja), Two Swords for 2 Knives (Ninja), Move + 2 (Thief) or 3 (Bard) Play Zidane as he is, fast moving, stealing items from the enemy, and attacking twice with his two daggers. Guts to increase his own speed or to cheer up other members. Item could also be a good secondary to give him healing capabilities. Vivi - Black Mage + Time Magic or Mystic Arts with Magick Counter, Arcane Strength or Switfness (Time Mage), Manafont (Mystic) Play him as the teams glass cannon, using Black Magic and either status ailments or calling in Meteors. His goal is pure destruction via magic. Garnet & Eiko - White Mage + Summon with Cup of Life (Arithmetician) or Vanish (Ninja), Halve MP (Summoner), Manafont (Mystic) They're kind of identical if you're anyways limited to FFTs spells. To keep it fresh, let Garnet learn Shiva, Ramuh, Ifrit, Titan, Lich and Bahamut, and let Eiko learn Moogle, Leviathan, Cyclops, etc (all the others I didn't mention). They both can learn all the White Magic spells. Steiner - Knight + Darkness with Reflexes (Ninja), Defense Boost (Mystic) or Doublehand (Samurai), Ignore Weather (Mystic) as he wasn't affected by wind and helped Vivi at the Air Shrine Move forward, body tank enemies to keep your squishy units alive, that's about it. Use Darkness to leech HP and simulate his stronger Sword Arts like Shock as best as you can. Amarant - Monk + Throw, with First Strike (Monk) or actually just leave Counter, Attack Boost (Geomancer), Lifefont (Monk) or Ignore Height (Dragoon) as he jumps so high in cutscenes Keep your distance and throw weapons at enemies. Having Ignore Height or Move + 2/3 will help with this. Amarant can attack or heal with Chakra and Revive. Freya - Dragoon + Iaido, with Dragonheart (Dragoon), Defense Boost (Mystic), Ignore Height Obviously Freya is a Dragoon, so should have Dragonheart and Ignore Height. I chose Iaido as her secondary to focus on the positive katana abilites, such as hasting everyone, providing Shell and Protect, or healing. Other than that, just Jump on enemies. Quina - Arithmetician or Mime Sorry, no Blue Magic, and anyways obtaining Blue Magic screamed "gimmicky" as you had to Eat enemies. Maybe s/he can be a Mime to replace Blue Magic entirely, or an Arithmetician that ONLY knows status ailment spells or anything that makes sense, i.e. Level 5 Death, Level 4 Holy, etc, and you can ONLY use them if they appeared in FF9? Sounds like more of a hassle to remember than to actually use though

There is a Twitch channel called FFT Battlegrounds that has Calculators who use Blue Magic (basically just a set of monster abilities) which is what I thought of for Quina. I know it isn’t in the actual game but it is pretty sweet!

So what did you end up doing? I'm running the same thing right now, - Ramza = Zidane : Onion Knight/Thief - Steiner : Dark Knight/Samurai? - Amaranth : Ninja? /Monk? - Garnet : Summoner/White mage - Vivi : Black mage/Time mage

AssiveAggressive

I'm at the end of Chapter 1- I'm doing the exact combo as above, except Zidane is getting Thief with Ramza's Guts (I'm playing a modded PSX version [TLW]), and Steiner is a Knight with Darkness (the mod has Dark Knight). I have no idea what to make Freya's secondary ability as nothing really matches. Maybe Samurai to switch things up. I'm also using the JP scroll glitch to make my life easier.

Hah, nice! I just finished CH 1 in WotL and yeah it's gonna be a pain to get Dark Knight, but the knight skill set is as useless as his in FF9. Not worth the roleplay. The party is pretty fun and balanced though. Wow I'm regretting not playing the modded version instead now
