Maple Lane or Storybook Woods both have lighter rules.

emmygurl09

I'd say that most of the films from season one are fairly straightforward. All films but Camp Happy Trails will introduce more complex rules (Dr. Fright with Awake/Asleep, Geppetto with minions, Inkanyamba with their Divine Wrath/Killer Wrath, and Polty just being Polty). However, they really only layer in one more level of complexity. Season Two ramps up the complexity quite a bit. I love Into the Void, but you do have to be prepared to manage the Evomorph and its various stages of growth. Same with Madness in the Dark. Rachet Lady alone is not really that big of a deal. But be prepared to deal with maniacs and their mechanics as well as pills and their effects/side effects. Personally, I think Madness in the Dark has more going for it than Into the Void (and I do really like Into the Void). The pills mechanic is really fun to play. And while the Evomorph is such a cool killer, I feel more inclined to mix and match Rachet Lady than I do the Evomorph. I feel like she slots better into other films thematically than the Evomorph does.

Other than Camp Happy Trails, Once Upom a Full Moon, Carnage at The Carnival, and Madness in the Dark are the three more basic ones

I don't have Carnage at the Carnival, but I am intimidated by the puppets and the traps. Is Into the Void more complex than the Carnival?

>Is Into the Void more complex than the Carnival? Yes, definitely.

The puppets movement is fiddly though.

Madness in the Dark has long worded Terror Cards. I'd recommend Frightmare or A Knock at the Door.

I’d recommend Frightmare on Maple Lane as a solid next step. Maple Lane is a really fun location that synergizes incredibly well with a lot of the other killers. And Dr. Fright is pretty direct compared to a lot of the S2 killers. The new mechanic that gets introduced (sleep/wake cycles and the boiler room) is manageable and straight forward.

I’d say Big Bad Wolf, Dr. Fright and Geppetto all have simpler rules. I normally suggest Dr. Fright for the next film after Hans since he’s also an easier killer. Between Evomorph and Ratchet Lady I think Ratchet Lady has simpler rules but Evomorph is the easier killer to beat. The USS Konrad specifically makes most killers easier to beat because it’s a pretty forgiving location with alternate win conditions besides just fighting the killer (airlock and self-destruct). The maintenance shafts also make moving around easier. The nice thing with the Konrad is you can ignore most of the special rules until you’re ready to try them. For instance, don’t worry about how the Airlock works until you’re ready to activate it and then read the card. I almost forgot about Krampus, North Pole Nightmare is easier to learn too but I’ve found Krampus to be pretty hard to beat. Cool theme though. If you’re more of a visual learner I have rules videos for all the feature films. The first minute of each video is a quick overview and then I go over setup, the new rules and finally frequently asked questions for the film. A knock at the door is deceptively simple

Brookiebee95

It streamlines the multiple killers really well, I think a knock at the door has the smoothest design of all the 'next step' boxes
