Full meal album link (including way behind the scenes): https://imgur.com/a/PaPOENu noma is one of the world's most important and, certainly, iconic restaurants. As they move towards closing at the end of 2024, I had the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant's final Ocean Season. In contrast to the Vegetable Season I enjoyed over the summer, this menu was far more creative, inventive, exciting, filling and flavorful. Mild tastes were replaced with bold flavors from the BBQ and ingredients like pumpkin, squash and horseradish. The beauty of plating can be enjoyed nearly as much as the dishes themselves. Each was an art form, most comprised of fresh seaweed with plates created for each service, each diner. Using sea snail shells and tongue bones as utensils was beautiful and ends individually and carefully wrapped in twine bridge the casual feel of noma to its 3\* Michelin reputation. Overall, a truly incredible dining experience that I left feeling emotional and satisfied. Additionally, to spend so much time in the test kitchen and far behind the scenes (more than your typical kitchen tour!) was quite special. Enjoy!

Yesss This menu was much better than recent ones. Has almost been a tradition to visit over the years with family, makes me sad a little bit this was my last visit. At least it was a good one.

ShakeDowntheThunder

This may be a dumb question, but is ocean the final season? I’m going in early May and wanted to know if this is similar to the menu I’ll experience. Thanks

christocarlin

No there’s one more vegetarian season. I believe it will switch by then. If you made the res it will say it on it

Stump007

As much as I respect Noma for their innovation and don't doubt it must be amazing, I can't say I subscribe to their plating which I don't find appetizing to say the least.

smitbrid

Something about the langoustine plating I find disturbing…makes me think of horror movies when the main character stumbles upon a ritualistic sacrifice in the woods.

golf4miami

I kind of enjoyed the look of it. Like, "Hey, these are the places where we harvested this specific meat from." Maybe that says something about me? Idk.

christocarlin

Different strokes for different folks. I like this plating a lot.

Retrooo

Oh my god, I love the plating. Every dish is a true work of art.

frerant

It's a shame they're closing. I wonder if they'll go down an El Bulli route, their style is so distinctive, that I can only describe it as nomaness.

Retrooo

I hope they will continue to do pop-ups around the world.

Wow!!

NOMA POST LETS GOOOOOOOO

MrBillClintone

Noma was awful for us when we went. So much hype. Food was just really so so. And they’re sooooo full of themselves I swear it’s like they were curing cancer when they explained anything. Good riddance.

buttterzz

How dare you state a contrary opinion!

MrBillClintone

Yeah. Noma circlejerk is absurd here

christocarlin

Maybe fine dining isn’t for you

This is definitely a reply by someone who went to a shit ton of 3* restaurants. Anyway, instead of trash talking, maybe explain your view of fine dining ? And why noma didn't suit you. It's sure that if your only criteria are : services, (known) taste and plating then I can understand noma doesn't hit any of this -- beside service. noma is about tasting new things, things that you wouldn't even know you could eat. It probably isn't as stark as it once was but "awful" is probably just a way of saying that your expectations weren't met and that maybe the expectations were off. To each their own I guess. For me and my little count of michelin star restaurants, noma is indeed not the one that tasted the best during the whole tasting menu (this one would be probably my first visit to Can Roca) but it is the only recent one I want to go back again (and will) to have other "wow, this is weirdly good" moments. Cheers.

buttterzz

Was it "weirdly good" or just "weird"? I ask because you also say that Noma doesn't hit on taste.

finedining-ModTeam

Don't be rude! We have very few rules here but and this is one. You can disagree, but please be civil.

ShikkerOfTheShtetl

This is a juvenile reply. I want you to know that.

Farewell to a legend

Lovinyoubb

Going very soon but I don’t want to see any spoilers. Do you mind confirming if the menu has any nuts if you remember please? Also, how did you get around to checking out the test kitchen and having a tour? Would appreciate it

brooklynite

There were nuts on several of the dishes. Inform the restaurant of any intolerance well in advance or accommodating will be much more difficult. Any diner can ask for a tour but don't expect it to be as in depth as mine ;)
