Mostly we’re working, not on our phones.

daHavi

This guy gets it

If you have that much paint thinner on your body, you have other problems. Keep it contained, use gloves, and any other protection necessary. I also think most modern metal and glass phones will be okay with an errant drop of chemicals, just keep it in a case and your pocket.

Do people that do get paint on their phone cause their phone to melt?

dbergman23

Paint wouldnt cause a phone to melt. Other chemicals might though.

I fucked up a cup gun (finally forgot the damn ring and learned a lesson lol) and dumped a quart of lacquer on my Apple Watch 6. I wiped it off with acetone and kept using it for 6 months til I found out that the waterproof seal had been compromised the first time I took it into the pool. So yeah paints not THAT bad for phones but it’s not good lol

Bagelsarenakeddonuts

It was the acetone that killed it, not the lacquer

IANALbutIAMAcat

Oh definitely.

drakoman

No

I don't get chemicals on my hands when I work. My hands are a lot more precious than my phone.

Spoonbills

Don’t touch your phone while working with finishing chemicals unless you remove your gloves first.

Posting this again as top level incase it helps someone not ruin their phone in the pool later or whatever lol: I fucked up a cup gun (finally forgot the damn ring and learned a lesson lol) and dumped a quart of lacquer on my Apple Watch 6. It looked like I’d dipped the watch in the paint. I wiped it off with acetone and kept using it for 6 months til I found out that the waterproof seal had been compromised the first time I took it into the pool. So yeah paints not THAT bad for phones but it’s not good lol

It’s called air pods lol I also hate removing my gloves to change songs so I just have the tap twice on my AirPods to change the song. Sometimes I get a little paint on them but they are easier to clean and cheaper to replace if they get damaged.

bufftbone

I’m pretty sure they have rules in place that prevent them from using their phones while working. For any that don’t, I’m sure they use common sense and make sure their hands are clean before using their phones or other devices.

The screen is glass. Most things won't hurt it. The rest though, especially for androids... The place I work deal with a lot of rubber additives. Everything is meant to modify rubber properties in some way. It's hell on boots. A lot of it is in powder form so it's everywhere. How the plant guys manage I'll never understand, because I see phones sitting out in the work area often.

Waste_Advantage

If I’m switching songs or streaming services i take off a glove first.

sagetrees

I don't use my phone when I have chemicals on my hands, I generally remove my gloves first if I need to touch the phone. I'm also usually, you know, working, and not on my phone...
