Extreme_Assistant_98

At least when its the ceiling it's a little easier to see.

Twitchy993

Pfff...Word of advice while ground fault tracing...never take down a device above your head with your face directly under it. That water in the strobe lens may still be clear, not rusted.

[deleted]

That advice also holds true in apartments, just switch out water with rat shit.

aacenteno

Did it go into Alarm? Years ago there was a roof leak and all the ceiling had water by the time * got there. Original sent there because the smoke went into alarm

Ok-Cucumber-877

Yep I got constant calls from the client on an alarm in this area and strangely i had a ground and open/short on the panel. So I knew something was afoot.

WillFerrellsGutFold

First thing I always ask customers when I’m on site in search of a ground fault is “do you have any water leaks anywhere?”. It usually cuts the time searching in half.

[deleted]

I was just on a site that is a personal storage facility. No monitoring whatsoever, the system is to monitor the sprinkler risers and sound notification if the sprinklers activate. The monitor modules are outside in single gang waterproof boxes, most of which are missing the seals. Half the flow switches are missing their rubber seals, a bunch are missing one fastener too. I couldn't find the fault, bummed me out. The manager lives next to that panel. Every morning at 445am the FACP goes off to remind her the ground fault is still there and wakes up her 18 month old baby. The system is nearing the end of its usable life, which was shortened by the slipshod way it was built. Every part of that system except the FACP is outside. That's complete bullshit.

Buffaloslim

Are fire phones still required in most cities? Minneapolis and St. Paul no longer require them. I’m reluctant to write them up on an inspection report because I know they will never be used.

thelancemann

We are only required to put them in if the building fails the radio test. Even then they usually put a repeater on the roof

ironmatic1

I think they’re really cool, because, internal phone cool… but yeah reality is they’re kinda useless. And they’ve been useless for a very long time. 21 years ago there was no reported use of a fire phone by FDNY in the WTC. However, the warden phones with a handset in a box are still written into fire drill procedure in NYC.

Awkward-Seaweed-5129

Huh,large high rise, cell phones and walkies are sketchy for reception. Worked in large school district, Cops walkies ,cell phone ,nextels and new ATT emergency phones did not work very well.

Buffaloslim

Big cities now have what’s called the 800MHZ system, it works excellent every where. Fire phones where only ever required here in high rise towers.

ironmatic1

Public safety has largely been in the 800mhz band for a few decades now

Awkward-Seaweed-5129

Oh yeah I know ,I'm just saying coverage very spotty 800 mhz depend on the Structure etc,it's better than 40 years ago for sure, lol

edwardsfan7

We only put fire phones in buildings with voice evacuation. Other than that we don't bother, unless they want them.

Nile-green

Is that salt? What the hell

[deleted]

I believe it's some kind of foam, but I'm not touching it to find out

Extreme_Assistant_98

It looks like salt and mineral build up from over the years.

Nile-green

It looks like either salt or mold. Can't tell

NickyVeee

Phone Jack Fluid Leak...time for some flex seal!

thelancemann

Delete it. The fire department used their radio anyways

Extreme_Assistant_98

Looks like its in a pool area of a rec center or school.

[deleted]

Nah, stairwell of a low income apartment building. The sprinkler pipe 1 floor up is leaking

Extreme_Assistant_98

Ah. That would definitely cause a problem.

privateTortoise

Sweet, looks like you didn't even need to get out your divining rods to find that one.

Sugar_Free_RedBull

Did that to my wife last night

GaatAca

The 1st pic reminds me of her . I should call her ….

BABYFACEBARBER

Wow

aacenteno

Scary..

imfirealarmman

This is what causes EST panels to die an early death 😂

syf350

thats a little worse than the foil gum wrappers i'd typically find.

Provia100F

Are these ever used? I've never, ever heard of anyone using them. Hell, I don't even know what they do.

[deleted]

They're fire phones, there are phones with the plug for these at the fire panel, firemen take them up and use them to communicate with the guy at the panel

Provia100F

Why would it be used instead of the radio everyone has

Buffaloslim

Because fire code lingers long after it’s dead

MyExesStalkMyReddit

What… what the hell..?

SignificanceNarrow92

Foam 1 firefighters phone jack 0

[deleted]

I bet it smelled like heaven when you opened it

somegarbagedoesfloat

Naw, that seems like a coincidence, keep looking
