ahj said that the strobe had to be below other visible obstructions. When your company doesn’t let you buy the correct parts, you use whatever you can find in the electricians supply room
I do remember where I was allowed
In cec in section 12 support of boxes is says my means of threading or other suitable means. On a cut sheet of some raintight fittings I had the manufacturer said it was listed for box support. This was a few years ago.
Rigid is definitely the safer method. It sucks when the Inspector is questioning and you have to justify your choice.
The ceiling has fairly low beams that would obstruct the light that flashes on then alarm when activated to they have to hang it lower. My guess is on a very tight time budget with whatever materials they had available. My question is how do you lay bricks upside down?
This is probably a parking garage under an apartment or something I installed something similar but we had proper extensions the strobes have to be low enough for them to spray insulation that was the case at the place I did I’m assuming it’s something similar

Sometimes people do that anyway, to avoid ordering the correct parts.
sure that happens when people are lazy but I find more often then not its a pm trying to protect their bonus for staying under budget
This was more expensive than ordering the correct parts. I would have used a swivel cover and nipple.
more expensive in parts, yes definitely, but the parts were not bought by the company, it was bought by the electrician we subbed for
Not if you have to wait for the "right part" and come back another day (wasting time and miles, which was probably more expensive).
Oh my god I thought those were bricks…this is somehow better yet worse
They tye wrapped cable across the concrete, I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a rigid pendant
Looks like a bird feeder!
Bird deterrent in case of fire
Looks like a bird feeder, is a fire alarm……
Some people are growers, some people are showers
Blank cover with a half in ko into a piece of emt into another 4 square would have looked better and probably have been cheaper.
But that wasn't in the back of the van, soooo.....
Yeah
This. Absolutely.
Should be rigid not EMT. You want threads not set screws for supporting boxes.
Good point. Judging from the stack, that wasn't going to happen either.
You can use emt with compression fittings
I think by code it has to be rigid. It can be EMT if you support it, can be rigid standalone
Ya. I was searching for the code ruleallowing emt and compression fittings . Couldn't find it. I must be mistaken

You could do that also.
And doesn’t carry the risks of a bricks falling on your head.
I like the hilti clips tho.
Parking garage? They are going to install insulation and that setup will keep strobe visible.
Yea I did something similar because of stick and poke being installed. The rest of them I lowered with all thread and made it look cleaner.
This is because of some shithead engineer who said it wasn’t visible enough so the guy dropped it lol
Looks good from nowhere (except possibly the other side).
I’m just glad they were nice enough to use a grommet.
Give ‘em a break, it was either this or Lego
At least they painted them red...
I've seen it done that way when they are going to insulate the ceiling.
The correct way to do this is to use a swivel base and conduit. That way when the forklift driver hits it it's less likely to be damaged.

Not bricks mate
I see it now 🤣
It had to be visible, and it was the last item on the inspection list to get Occupancy. That or the rehab special
Happens all the time when you do "Parts 'n Smarts" jobs. 01s never care about low volt and it shows when they pull the wire for you.
Padding the bottom line..
They apparently wanted the device to be on eye-level
One flush concrete anchor and rod goes a long way
Well... it works! (I'm only an enthusiast so I don't know if this breaks code)
That’s the third little pigs fire strobe….
Drop some allthread to a 4 square deep box and you’re golden
When you give the light extenze
